cyanogenmod prl update - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

hello
First off, I have modded with cyanogenmod quite some time ago.
I have kept that up date (cause of their nice update program), but I have never updated the carrier roaming lists (PRL?). My coverage seems to be crappy and I think it just may have to do with my newbishness.
I am running Cyanogenmod 11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-jflte
Sprint PRL = 55018
is there a retard guide for me to easily update.... any suggestions or links would be great. I have spent over an hour searching google, but I am obviously using the wrong keywords and I am getting frustrated. I keep stumbling across other models / mods and I am fearful of breaking something....
Thanks for your time

You'll need to flash a touchwiz based ROM to do a PRL update.

thanks for the detail.
I dont mean to be a turd, but there seems to be a whole lot of TouchWiz variants. Is there a specific one to use?
thanks, and best regards

Yes, unless you use stock rooted. But that doesn't matter since all you are doing is flashing stock ROM, updating PRL and then restoring cyanogenmod

sorry for being a pain, but as I dont do this often...
if I flash the zip here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257503
this will put me back to TouchWIz original (plus root)
then I will follow the rest of the steps
(sorry for being dense, I was incorrectly thinking that I would loose the ability to use clockworkmod recovery / restore functions once I flashed the touchwiz rom and I would have to root before I could restore cyanogen, but that is firmware not ROM..... )
Its late and I have been up forever...
Thanks

I need some help.
Using Clockworkmod recovery V 6.0.4.7.
Tried using http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-rooted-stock-roms/ >>>> "Download Galaxy S4 rooted Stock ROM Sprint SPH-L720 Latest MF9 "
checked the filesize and the md5 sum, all good.
WHen I tried to use CWM to install zip from SDcard1 it gave me an error (missing 4 of 5) and aborted the installation.
I tried to search somewhere else to find a .zip that would bring the Sprint SPH-L720 back to stock, however they all seem to not have .zip for CWM recovery however make use of ODIN (which i cannot use as I dont have a windows computer, I use linux)
I want to go back to stock to update the prl before going to cyanogenmod 12.1
any suggestions ?
thanks
qu1nn

Rough night here.
somehow I lost clockworkmod recovery and ended up being still rooted with stock mf9 recovery, but I still had cyanogenmod 11 working; I recovered by installing clockworkmod application; > model > flash clockworkmod recovery > shutdown.
In the midst of that fiasco I say this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296167
which implies that keeping the PRL as up to date is not so required.....
so I bailed after several different attempts to install a ROM that would allow me to do a prl update.
I flashed the latest cyanogenmod nightly 12.1 and I am off and running.

Yeah, it should be possible.
Htc release ota updates as delta upgrades, containing only differences between files. Custom ROMs don't use the identical same files, so we need to patch the old ones with these new files.
And our custom recovery images don't accept htc ota keys, since you could get locked out of rooting if this happened.
I can try and look later on at this...
Ok,so it seems problems with the "patch files" too,not possible
via recovery menu,right?
Hope you can do it!
Hmm it seems that this update only add's a gsensor config, I dont know if they fixed the problem with streams and T-Mobile Netherlands (I guess not).
Seems to be a lot of changes (a lot of files to patch) just to add G-sensor config. Probably a bugfix release too...

Hmm well because I have a different bootloader and a stock T-Mobile rom it just don't show up. It's gonna take a while before I get my hands on this one
so is there a full list of what this update has done?
i have a custom rom and managed to install this with no problems.
i have seen a similar update on the desire and it seems to fix the message notifications (messages will display 1, even though all messages are read.)
Hi All,
Loking at the files contained within this update, can anyone confirm if this will have an effect on the Bluetooth capabilities of the phone. There are a few threads out there with people like myself who had their bluetooth functionality reduced with their car kits. The pairing would work, but the connection failed. The connection worked fine in 1.5, and is working again in custom 2.2 roms (I'm running Fusion),

hmm, update.zip contains boot.img and recovery.img, as well as many updates for framework, many apps, system etc...
so it can contain any new protection method to disable root possibility and/or changing roms to custom.
anybody with genuine 2.1 installed this? anything happened?
I just checked the boot.img from the original update to Android 2.1 and from this one, and they're exactly the same, bit by bit, so there isn't any changes in the kernel.
appied update and then rooted all worked fine
i have installed this update after i got my repaired hero back from htc yesterday. i did root my phone after this update and it seems to be fine.
the only thing i cant do is downgrade to 1.5 using a goldcard. it say something about im using the incorrect id.
But i dont know if that was the update that did that or htc did it when they had my phone

Sounds normal. What rooting method did you use? (Shamelessly trying to find out if my port of the Droid eris one still works after this update)
If you root and flash custom recovery, you can flash another hboot, thus allowing a 1.5 RUU to work with gold card.
But that is a risky process, and there's no need in my opinion to use it.

What do you mean? I'll probably post the raw files from this update, and then anyone who wants them can push them into a ROM.
Looking at the zip right now and it's definatly a bunch of updates for the system!

Please Help Me! :( I'm Scared.

Hi there.
I have rooted my Galaxy S2 and have decided I want to unroot it and remove Superuser and ClockworkMod and everything that I gained when I rooted it. I have tried superoneclick, flashing the default kernel onto the phone and I dont know how to remove superuser.
I would like to restore the phone to factory settings, and I'm scared and dont know what to do.
Please help me I will be eternally greatful.
Benjamin.
flashing stock kernel should have done it download the corresponding stock rom from samfirmware (follow instructions closely) and then should have to correct stock, unrooted software on your s2 just make sure 100% its for the correct region, why do you want to flash back can i ask? cant see any benefit other than you warrenty
Flash one stock rom or flash only a kernel the stock rom
please make it simple for me.
Isn't Superuser just an application you can uninstall if you just don't want it anymore? And SuperOneClick has an option to unroot the phone again (although I have never done that because I never needed it but I suppose it works if you just click on the big button for it).

As far as I'm aware you have to flash a stock rom. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.
Also flashing stock kernel will not remove root.
Stock roms:

Or here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
Flashing stock kernel won't remove susperuser.. Flashing whole ROM does.. One way of removinf the triangle in boot up is Flash CF-Root then flash stock kernel then through CWM manager flash the zimage of CF-Root.. As you can see when CF-Root was flashed over with stock kernel superuser and cwm manager still remains.. So better off flashing whole firmware rather than just stock kernel..

I'm mean I don't know what you are scared of, may be you are new to rooting and feel something is going to happen to the phone.
Just make sure you know what you are flashing, read change logs, flash from trusted sites like xda, verify md5 sum, don't simply flash anything you find on the net.
If you are still not comfortable, download what ever stock firmware version you want, flash thru Odin and you will be good.

Harden up.
Search the forums & find an original complete ROM/firmware for your provider & download it.
Use Odin to flash it.

Done.

Hi Benjamin. Don't be scared. It's quite easy really. Follow the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Download the firmware nearest to your original firmware. Read the thread in the link above carefully and you'll be able to restore it to a factory state.

[Q] Help! Cannot boot into Custom Recovery

Hello, I cannot My AT&T Galaxy S4 into recovery mode. According to Boot Manager I have 2 recoveries already installed(CWM and TWRP) but every time I try reboot into recovery I get "Could not do Normal Boot ODIN MODE". I installed one of the recoveries using Goo manager and because it didn't work I tried with boot manager, What am I missing?
Goo Manager doesn't work for the AT&T S4... I did the same thing a while back. You need to use Safestrap for this phone. Look for the right version of it. I'm assuming you are using the stock ROM so find out what software version you are on and download the right version of Safestrap. Good luck.
Btw I forgot to add that you lost your stock recovery so you don't have one anymore. You can take it to a bestbuy and tell them Kies broke your phone and they can reflash it for you, or you can install a custom recovery.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Also, you can't have 2 recoveries installed at "same time". Find your build in settings. If mf3/mk2/nb1 you can't flash custom recoveries. Will also be limited to TW roms. You must use SafeStrap. So, probably need to get very familiar with it before going farther.
Good Luck on it--
Thanks!

Thanks, I'm on MK2. I get this message in Rom manager, should I proceed to install Safestrap?
Sorry for the picture size, don't know how to resize.
You need to use ODIN to flash the original firmware back to your phone (MK2 from the looks of it). Then, install safetrap using the instructions available in the Safestrap thread. Make sure you read the entire thread before you do anything. As already mentioned, only safestrap will work with your phone, not Goo Manager and not ROM Manager.

Its all up to you if you wanna flash a custom ROM. Personally I don't because I have always had bad luck with modding phones and tablets. that's why I only root, but don't let that discourage you. Make sure that you have the correct ROM for your device before installing it.

[Q] S5 Active Advice required please

Hi Folks
My partner has just got the S5 Active and she loves it..
But now she would like to update from 4.4.2.. Phone says she has latest rom so my questions are this
1)What is the latest official rom for the Active?
2)Whats the BEST root method?
3)What Custom roms are suitable?
3)Finally what is the best route to take to flash a CUSTOM rom?
looking forward to your responses
regards
Lohtse
1) Here you can find the latest TW stock rom:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Android Lollipop is available for the S5 Active. You can download the latest Firmware and flash it via Odin. You don't need root for that.
2) My preferred root method is flashing CF auto root via Odin. After that I install another recovery like TWRP
3) Nobody can answer that. Try and find it out (perform a full wipe incl cache before you install a custom rom)
4) This steps: root, recovery, full wipe, custom rom, and at least if you want and need that: custom kernel

Thank you for the help...
finally got it sorted after reading around 9-10 different guides... all of which had little bits missing
now she's a happy bunny with LP on her Active and I'm a tired old fart with droopy eyes!!!!!
Just need a custom recovery now!!
Congratulations! How you solved it?
Yeah recovery is the same problem. It exists no recovery for the G870A
Two things that I found that allowed me to sort the Active which was mentioned
firstly to allow Flashfire to work you had too set clock back past 1/15/15
and you had to also set flashfire to boot into download to allow you to flash the G870A_OC5_Bootloader.tar.md5 file via Odin on the pc.. once I did these it worked...
Just depends which guide you read to find a COMPLETE one....
Damn that sounds very tricky

Not really just no two guides the same.... soon as I noticed the minor differences it was easy.
1) root with towel root copy stock LP(rooted version)
2) Install and set date to 1/1/15 then open Flashfire
3)Flash Stock rooted LP using flashfire making sure you have flashfire set to boot to download when finished
4) open Odin PC and connect S5Active
5)Point Opins AP slot to location of the G870A_OC5_Bootloader.tar.md5 file
6) Flash and reboot and your done...
MAJOR issue was the flashfire issue once found issue and set it as stated above I was Up and running after 10minutes Just had spent 4 hours failing before I notice and figured out what the issues was...
Simple really.... Well it was in the end lol

23.4.A.1.264 rolling out, stagefright fixed :)

Thanks for the Feedback! Figures I lost it anyways (and the Recovery with it) even though I made and flashed a pre-rooted firmware from recovery as always. Whatever happened there. Gonna have to roll back to KK tonight, get Recovery up and running and then finally retry flashing the a newly created pre-rooted FW from my FTF file.
Really quite annoyed at this right now. Could have just OTA`d and the result would have been the same. Hopefully no big Security holes for some time. Not big on wasting several hours, just to get my phone running the way I want it to run.

Thnx, added it.
.264 error power off
after upgraded to .264, my phone was down, cannot power on. any one faced this problem
So I ran the OTA and after it installed, all the apps that I had moved to the SD card were no longer on my homescreens, and I cannot even search for them in the Google Now launcher app. They are still in the app drawer but I have to manually scroll down and find them. I can't just type in their name?? Anyone else have this issue? I am totally stock, no root or anything.
I had something similar. With all apps on the sd card initially being unavailable. After maybe 5 minutes the phone rebooted itself and now all apps appear to have been restored to where they were prior to the update and are once more able to be used
