Nexus 7 Died - Nexus 7 (2013) General

I've seen this somewhat similar issue posted a few times but just wondering how many other people are experiencing it. My Nexus 7 just randomly died with the battery plummeting.
I had an issue with my first Nexus 7 (2013) unit that arrived DOA. Holding the power button does nothing but flash the LED. Today, I got home and it did the same thing with my new unit despite having worked for the past 2 weeks. I read some posts here that suggested to plug it in and hold the power button for 30+ seconds. I did that and it seemed to do the trick after letting it charge a while. When I checked the battery history, I saw this:

Why would it do this? The battery instantly died at that one exact moment...

Left completely alone long enough, the battery level doesn't update accordingly, this is somewhat an issue on the N4 as well. I think what you're seeing here is that the battery level, pre crash, is lying to you, although this looks like a very extreme case. Just a guess with the info at hand.

You might be right. I'll try doing a factory reset to clear out the battery stats maybe... (I consciously chose not to root this device)

I wouldn't bother, it does get better with time, at least in the case of the N4. It was a HUGE annoyance for me when I first got the phone, over time the issue became less obvious. The battery stats only contain your per charge usage, so that won't "fix" it.

Review: Samsung Tab 10.1v vs Ipad 1 (closed)

I have the chance to compare my 10.1v with an Ipad 1 so here is the first picture (both devices with medium brightness).
It'll be a work in progress. Tomorrow I'll have more time and I'll post a full review, with images and videos.
I'll post videos here.
Looking forward to seeing the review. I'm more interested in the 10.1 but the screen quality definitely interests me here.
i guess samsung tab should vs ipad 2
I don't have an Ipad 2, just the first one.
I returned my 10.1v, it became a brick.

What happened ?
As a stated on another thread, I played around for half an hour. Due to a lot of forced closes on browser, decided to turn off the device. It froze on "Do you want to shut down?".
Pressed a couple of times the power button and the first screen "Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1v" appeared, but it never passed from there.
Tryed power + vol down and entered unlock mode with no problems. Pressed the power button to get out and restart, but same issue ocurred. The only way to turn it off is power + volume up and down for 10 secs.
I think even charging was affected, because when I plugged it, the symbol of a battery appeared, but nothing happened afterward.

early adopters penalty!
Are you getting it replaced? I'm sure it was just a dodgy unit. I've not heard of anyone else with that issue - the only issue that I know of is the light-bleed issue for which Vodafone AU have been replacing them.
I know of 2 Tabs here in Portugal whose screen, after 4 days of normal use, started malfunctioning. An error like mine, I never heard of it, not even in another tabs' fora.
I got a refund. Imagine if it happened again... The store might say I've been messing with something or trying to install custom Rom (there isn't any, I know eheh). My unit had bleeding too, I think they all have.

I had my rooted Nook Simple Touch froze on me.
Series of events:
1) I thought it needed to be charged
-So I charged it
-Still Frozen but would restart when I plugged it back in
2) I thought the root had cause something so I reformatted it using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289233
-Still Frozen when unplugged and restart on being replugged in
3) Reformatted again for good measure then rooted using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343143
-Still frozen
4) Called B&N tech Support: No help, cycle nook, turn off, cycle nook, turn off, no change, said to let it power down to 20% and that you should only charge for 3-4 hours and that you can over charge the unit??????, thanks anyways.
5) Used Ifixit.com teardown to see if there was something going on inside: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nook+Simple+Touch+with+GlowLight+Teardown/9301/1
-Took off back, upplugged battery
-Found nothing loose or broken inside
-Found a port for a cell antenna, interesting
-Unplugged the screen from the motherboard
-Put it back together
-TADA!! it works again. I think that hard resetting the battery did the trick but also voided any warranty I had. (which was none since it is over 1 year old.
I searched for a resolution to this problem everywhere and could not find one so I am putting one here. Thank you for your time.
Sorry you didn't see this, and I'm glad to see the fix being bumped - this was the thread with the fix before you needed to do the work -- but congrats on a successful self-repair and clear documentation.

Should I try to save my black screen nexus 4?

Hello people.
I need help to decide if I should try to save my nexus 4 or not. It has been dismantled for the past half a year and i recently got it to show signs of life after battling the steady red ring of death. (Was simple by the way, just used a wireless charger for a couple of minutes) But if I turn it on, it vibrates, the screen lights up and that is just about it. So i have no idea if the phone itself is functional. Some of you might tell me not to bother with such an old phone, hell, they aren't even sold anymore. But this phone has stuck by me through thick and thin, and has a sentimental value. I nearly jumped of joy when it showed signs of life after such a long time. I am not a rich man, so i need to manage my finances. Screen replacement would cost me 25 pounds, back housing would be another 10, but what if the phone is still not functional? Is there any way I can find out if I should take the gamble?
Some info -
I am not entirely sure if there is an OS currently installed on the device, as I was experimenting quite a bit before the battery run its coure.
I am also missing one of the connector things that are circled (there is one and a broken spot where another one should be) but i have no idea what it connects to. The little peg itself is safe and sound in my possession, if it can be welded back. It connects to whatever is under the power button on the back housing.

The screen is cracked in three places, but was working the last time I remember. But there have been many (and I mean many) dis and re assemblies since then.
I probably love this phone more than my friends and family. Just want my favourite piece of tech to be my companion again.
Could the red light be due to a dead battery?

Thankls for the reply. The battery is new and the red light issue is sorted. The phone just doesnt do much more other than vibrate and light up the screen. How do i know if it is still worth investing money in is the real question.

S7 Edge freeze/crash

Hi everyone.
I am having a big problem with my phone, and since I messed up my warranty by rooting my phone, I am gonna try to find help here, and I really hope someone knows how to fix this issue.
So I got my S7 Edge this summer straight out of the box and it was working perfect. A couple of months after that it started freezing and restarting once every week or so, but I didnt think much of it. Slowly it was doing that more and more, until the point where the screen would freeze and the phone would restart 5 times a day. Shortly after it got stuck in a bootloop. I went to the store I bought it from but since a had a small scratch on the screen they wouldnt repair it without me paying for the screen change. Since it was a lot of money I tried to repair my phone at home by rooting my phone and installing a stock firmware. That didnt work so I installed a custom rom, that worked for a day but then it got back in the bootloop. Now I cant even be in TWRP without it freezing and restarting. My question to you guys is, has anyone had this issue (I hope not because its the worst) and is there any chance I could fix this myself?
I found this picture on google that resembles how my phone looks when it freezes/crashes. It gets these small pixel on the screen, not on the whole screen like in this picture, just on parts of the screen and on different parts everytime.

I have exactly the same problem. I think is somehow power related. Happens more frequently when phone is plugged in or when there's an increase in power consumption...
Is there a fix for it? I am having the same problem.
I found out that is the EMMC and the only fix is motherboard replacement... SAD

I guess you are right since the crashes were more frequent when I had a memory card in the slot. I thought that maybe my memory card was incompatible. But the eMMC seems to be the problem

Battery Drain (Android OS and Cell Standby)

Hi All,
not sure if this is normal (dont think so) but i have annoying battery drain and dont know what i can do to fix it.
My screen on time is around the 2hr 30 mins mark before i will need to recharge - ive seen people getting 6 hours some how??
ive uninstalled all useless apps, wiped cache and all the normal things but still not worked (even location services off)
I just had a look today on WakeLockDectector and it appears it has something to do with the google app?
Does anyone know a solution to this battery drain? - cell mobile radio seems to keep my phone awake??

You're not the only one. I'm struggling with it since I bought this bloody phone. Had even exchanged battery.
Facing the same problems as you do. Perhaps our models are broken somehow?
It's hard to say...
Anyway, no clue what's going on.
Same problem just started. Was doing great after factory reset but along the way it's slipped
