Compare Size to S3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Since the screen was enlarged and the bezel was reduced, does the S4 fit the S3 case size?
Former phone maybe the S3 and newer phone the S4 and would like to use the same Otter case.

The corners are changed just enough to make a ton of old hard cases not fit.

No completely different. Speakerphone and camera/flash are in different places.

Nexus 4 Armband

Has anyone found an armband case that fits the Nexus 4 nicely?
I'm looking for something as cheap as possible to use while running.
Amazon has plentyyyy
any that anyone has tested already?
I found one for a few bucks on eBay that fits the Galaxy S3. Since the N4 is only a bit bigger than the S3, I figure it will work. They actually advertise it for the Nexus 4. I may end up ordering one.

What? I always thought the S3 is bigger than the Nexus 4. Doesn't the S3 have 4.8" screen? Please correct me

Oops! Typo. The S3 is indeed bigger. Diagram: http://www.androidnova.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/nexus-4-vs-galaxy-s3-3.jpg
However, it turns out people hate the eBay armbands.
What do you do if you want your phone on your arm but you also have a case on it? Is there still a way of strapping this bad boy?

You just need an armband that's larger and will fit the case. There are no armbands specifically made for the Nexus 4 at this time. I spent a long time searching today.
I posted in the other armband thread about the arkon XXL armband, i was debating on buying it as i was worried it would not fit but after seeing the dimensions of the phone compared to the s3 and it should fit just fine even with a bumper on.

I would like to recommend this product : http://www.ebay.com/itm/300834249326?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Just got it and totally love it! perfect fit! good material.
BUMP! I'm on the lookout for a good armband too.
I just got the armband zerosource links to below - and it SUCKS. So no - don't get it. The N4 is too thick and so the fit is too snug. It sat so snugly i had to cut open the thing to get the phone out. On top of it all it ruined my screenprotector, so i have to refit that too. Also, if you have a reasonably sized arm - the band doesnt reach around it. I can't flex my biceps with this thing on (and that's definately a problem since I'm a "Jersey shore" kind of guy). (Yes I put it as far up on the arm as I could).
So does anyone know of a QUALITY armband? One that actually works for the N4? As someone stated, most of the ones on ebay are the model zerosource linked to. They obviously suck.

Also looking for a good armband... one that is easy to get the phone out of. I don't want it to have a plastic front as I can't see the phone anyway when running. Just want something to carry it properly.
I have a galaxy s3 armband but the plastic on the front stuck to my screen protector and ripped it halfway off.
I buyed Arkon armband XXL and when used it with my Nexus WITHOUT case the plastic adheres to my Xtremeguard screen protector and some zones peeled off, i think its a protector problem because with humidity becomes rubbery.
When used with my silicone TPU case, fitted tigther but had no problem with screen protector.
I recommend Arkon XXL for use with or without case.

It is stable?
It fit also to the wris/Forearm?
For stable you say if the phone moves inside the armband? -no- with or without case.
I haven´t tried to use it in the forearm but the strap comes with three velcros so i think you can adjust it without problem.

This arm band has had an Evo, Galaxy Nexus and now Nexus 4 in it and has worked great:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0071C9B0U/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Its a good size stock for all women and most men's arms. Im kind of at the top end of the main strap's capacity but if you are bigger they do have an extension.

[Q] What's the build quality really feel like?

Hi.
How solid does the S4 really feel like and compare to the S3 and Note 2? Does it creak after a while of use?
I've owned the S2, the S3 and even both Notes, and while they are good phones, one thing that annoys me is the creaking of the body, especially on the back. this may not be the case right after you get it, but give it time and use: creaking is bound do ucurr.
I get from what I read and watch that the S4 is not much different - and I don't mind plastic at all- but I'd like to know if it has the same problems that it's not built solid enough to avoid creaking when you hold it strongly or push the back.
I understand the ring around the side is not actually metal, just plastic posing like it - but maybe Samsung managed to work it out better this time and the CEO was right when he said "... the galaxy s4 is slimmer, yet stronger, less to hold yet more to see", or as it was displayed behind him "Slimmer, lighter, and more solid".
What do you think? And how does it really feel and handle?
Hoping on some good feedback!

Please only answer if you actually had the phone in your hands or have a good credible source.

Hello,
I don´t have the answer, but similar qustion - how tough Galaxy´s 4 body is? I mostly carry a phone in a pocket, so I´m affraid of the break (glass...) Around the body is a metal stripe - will it support the solidity?
Thank, for answer

I can only give you a good guess, since even people testing this by dropping the phone are only to a degree relevant since it much depends on luck and on how the phone hits the ground.
However some things to consider:
- The "metal stripe" is not out of metal but also plastic (so similar conditions as on the S3)
- The galaxy S4 reportedly uses Gorilla Glass 3, which is somewhat tougther than the glass on the S3 (but I do not consider it 100% confirmed its gorilla glass 3 since I've read reports that the first phones to have it will hit in summer, not now in spring)
- Tests and experiences on the s3 show that it could easily break
In the end I think the S4 may be marginally harder to break, but not much.
Every phone with a glass screen can break rather easily when you drop it, and it does not matter hugely which one you buy.
The only protection is a good case and cover foil, and that will only reduce the risk of it breaking, but it cannot be avoided completey.
I guess nobody in this forum is got hands on some review sample?
AW: [Q] What's the build quality really feel like?
I hope it feels like a S2 in terms of stability. Not like a S3.

I'm pretty sure they will all be using Gorilla Glass 3, from day one.
I hope so
s3 screen is a bit embossed outside of the corners and is not actually flat, s4 looks pretty flat along with screen a bit inside the outer rim similar to galaxy s2 . With that we can safely assume it should be on par with s2 which is rock solid.

The biggest question, as I see it, with the Note 3, is

Whether you'll use it bare, or inside some type of a case.
On one hand, the Note 3 is a beautiful device. Shielding it with a GEL/TPU case will destroy its looks completely. Moreover, using a case will also make the dimensions of the device much bigger, undermining Samsung's heroic attempts to decrease its dimensions for a better grip.
On the other hand, a device as heavy and as delicate as the Note 3 will not survive a fall without a noticeable scar. And it *will* eventually fall.
So what do you prefer ? a scarred device (probably even with broken front glass), or a shielded device with horrible looks and cumbersome grip ?
To be or not to be. Rather, beating a dead horse with a dead horse.
I use gelaskins. They don't offer the level of protection of a full case, but if you hold it like a $600-700 gadget *should* be held, then you don't need a full case

A gelaskin might protect from scratches, but not from falls.
You can be as careful as possible with the device, but once in several months it will fall, hard on concrete floor.
Mine will be wearing a screen protector and the flip wallet.

With the flip wallet, only *one* side is protected from directly hitting the floor. The other 3 sides are totally open for direct impact.
Already pre-ordered Spigen's Neo Hybrid. The way I look at it is: yes, its a sexy phone. So it deserves some sexy clothes. You don't take an ugly girl and put ugly clothes on her. You also don't take a hot girl and run her around town naked. Gotta find a sexy case for a sexy phone.

That's a really nice looking case, but I think you are adding a lot of bulk to the width of the device (because its built from two layers), I think at least 7-10 mm to the total width, which is crazy. This will make the device much harder to operate one handed. Samsung went through so much effort to make the device mostly screen, and this case undermine this effort, badly.

HI Great question.
I shall use a case and a screen protector as I have done with every smart phone and tablet since I started owning them.
With respect I differ on one point you raise. You really think the note looks good? Sony have the Xperia z, Z1 etc, HTC have the One and Apple are Apple, all premium brands and a premium price. This time around I sincerely expected Samsung to come up with decent aesthetics and a quality feel and build so what do they do they insult us with a cheap imitation leather look with plastic play stitching.
I have enjoyed all my Samsung devices going back to the nexus S, SGS2, 3, Note 1 etc but oh the quality of build materials has been and still is way below that of other top of the line mobiles. I changed from Samsung this year and went Sony with the Xperia Z and Xperia pad 10.1. I just have to write that holding those devices makes Samsung look very cheap, the sort of things you purchase at the market.
I have my Note 3 and Gear on order So I am again going back to plastic land in terms of the phone, I shall not be buying the Samsung tablet.
To date I had zero problems with the reliability of the Samsung products I have owned and own at present. I cannot for the life of me understand why Samsung appear to do their best to make their devices look and feel so......YUK.
One of the first things I shall be doing is changing that horrible insulting plastic leather back with one made in alloy by another brand. I shall not sell my Xperia Z until I am satisfied the Note 3 is satisfactory. If only Sony made a mobile with the same size screen. The Ultra is just bizarre to me with a 6.7" screen had that been smaller I would not be returning to Samsung until they started to manufacture quality products in terms of their casings.
Regards
Bare, and within a Golla wallet when not in use.
I have flipcovers, cases and other such additions that only serve to thicken and/or ruin the phone.
If you learn the meaning of being CAREFUL, you don't need a case.

I don't drop my phones. I'm only concerned about preventing incidental scratching of the screen and casing. I just took the screen protector off of my Epic 4G Touch and the screen looks brand new. She's been kept safe in a flexible TPU case and screen protector. I'd rather not use a full-body case on the Note 3 due to its size. The flip wallet is a good solution. I'm also considering some of the spigen options.
Naked and handled with TLC. If it falls, just cough up the funds to get it fixed or replaced with a newer model. I would say in 3 years I have dropped my phone 5 times, 3 of them on a soft carpet, one in and elevator and the fall was broken by grabbing the headphone cable and sticking out my foot. That leaves one dangerous fall in three years (I was luck, just a scratch to the case corner on the back). Lastly, believe it or not with the S3,if the back cover is scratched you can actually buff it out!

I will continue to take my chances by not using a screen saver or case. I have had the Droid incredible, Samsung fascinate, Samsung Droid Charge, S2, S3, HTC One, and with the exception of the S3 (cracked screen after 1 year) I will continue to use the Note 3 the same way.
I just can't stand covering up the natural look and feel of a phone. Not to mention in the case of the S3 adding to the bulk or the crappy feel of a screen protector especially when considering using a stylus. Of course I realize that one drop can damage the screen, but the tradeoff is worth it to me.
Kinda like if my wife were to wear some clothing at those special moments, it just wouldn't be the same.

Never gonna use a case on this puppy... I'm coming off a Droid Bionic in mint condition because I handle it like I can't afford a new one... and I have that , side leg , cell phone pocket on all my pants and shorts that the note 3 just happens to fit into perfectly... that cell phone pocket is the sole reason behind having a OG Motorola droid (still works) , Droid 3 , and Bionic , all looking brand new sitting on my dresser without a scratch...

Using S4 Without a Case [Need Advice]

So i bought a brand new Galaxy S4 19505 and i totally love the feel and the look of my new device. I bought and applied a glass screen protector to it which keeps the display crystal clear and provides a great protection to the front glass in case of drops or something. The thing is that i bought two cases for the phone, an iFace case and a hardshell case. I used each of them for a week and i couldn't handle it anymore as the phone looks ugly and it adds too much bulk. I removed the case today and again i really like this original look and feel.
So my question is, since i am a careful user and i don't drop my phones should i use the S4 without a case? Is the glass screen protector enough?
I need responses from people who have used their phones naked for a good time.
Thanks in advance.
Glass screen protector does the trick if you drop the phone face first down to something. However, if an impact happens to the side it might spread a Crack to the screen.

My S4 is 1.5 year and has no scratches at all. No display protector. Using a pouch at work and a belt bag other times. So if you are carefull it should not be a problem to keep the phone as new.

Compleatly naked is my advise!
I used my S4 with a case for months and then took the plunge, went naked. Almost instantly I dropped it outside on some concrete and it just dinged the side, I really think its just pure luck....since then I have put the case back on and just accepted it is for the best. :good:

That's the advise I might have for a phone that's cheap, but a smartphone costing hundreds of pounds (unless it's a contact phone off course), there's no way I'd use it without a case and screen protector

Well, I disagree! Would never use anything to **** up the design of the phone I have! Have NEVER had any physical damage on any on my phones over the years.
But if you're reckless and a clutz, then I guess you would need some protection!

From Note 2 to Note 4...make it settle in pocket better?

I have a Note 2. I tried a Note 4 and took it back. Even though it was just a little bit larger...it felt way larger in my pocket. I think it may be because of the corners are less rounded. It seemed to hang out of my pocket rather than sink in like the Note 2 did.
Problem is, I really liked the Note 4. Anyone know why it is only just a tad bit bigger than the Note 2 but yet fits so awkwardly in the front pants pocket? Any suggestions? Would a case change the shape of it so it would rest better in the pocket...or would it just make it more bulky?

Adding case to Note 4 will definitely add bulk.
Here is my suggestion: Get the Note 4 and get used to it. You won't regret it.
Get note edge. ...even better
get a belt case, from pdair.com for example.
you'll never have to worry about pocket space, or sand in your pockets again.
an otterbox defender will work quite well too, with its belt clip.

A case adds some milimeter to it, even if it's just plastic.
Let alone weight, if you use the Neo Hybrid for example.
But to be honest, I would just use a belt case if I were you.
These phones (LG G Pro 2, Note 4, heck even the Note 2) make walking a bit uncomfortable.
It feels much better not to have that extra brick in your pocket.
(Even a slim old Nokia feels worse than having nothing in your pants... unless you use Cargo Pants.
Which is functionally awesome, but frowned upon. Pick your poison.)
Please don't do what the dice master suggested you will look like a spy who plays fruit machines.
Adding a case won't help. Just get used to it. It is bigger, but a great phone.
