Is everyone having problems with their Nexus 7 2013 - Nexus 7 (2013) General

All you hear about is all the people who have defected devices but what about the ones that are working fine. I really want to get this table, it fixed everything that was flawed in the first one and now when I compare this tablet to any other one the other tablet just falls flat on the ground. This tablet is the one i want regardless but I want to know if truly everyone is experiencing problems with there nexus 7. Are all the devices faulty or just a few. I understand that some people have had to trade it in up to 3 times already but could those just be that people? How many of you have nexus 7's that are working properly?

Eh, at this point it seems to be a game of how much can you take, I suppose. For example, mine has light bleed along the top and edge, but I'm living with it. Others have sporadic touch screen issues that really can't be compromised with. Dead pixels are a thing, but depends on how bad they are, and how hard you're willing to look for them. I love the thing though, so I'd recommend it.

Cmon guys check the other threads before starting yours.
Not everyone is having problems - me and many others are fine..

I might be lucky but mine is all fine, no problem with it at all.

Ok, I believe there are already existing threads in the forums with folks with all kinds of issues. Really, there is no need to create another asking the same questions, with the same responses.
Asking if people have issues, is like asking if they feel it's too hot in their house. Mixed opinions.
Review the existing threads for existing information before creating another please.

Who the hell are you? He is here reporting information that is useful to others and you tell him the leave?
Many people, including myself happen to be a bit more of a perfectionist than you. I like my things that are brand new, to look brand new. I know, call me crazy. Just because you are happy with your imperfections, doesn't mean other people are.
When I spend several hundred dollars on something, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it leaving the factory. Period. If you are OK with it, great, but not everyone is.
I see posts like these on XDA all the time lately and it is just ridiculous. Why can't this place just be about helping people and making our devices the best they can be?

I just got my B70 unit now. No issues till now (A little light bleed only).
My B50 had bad light bleed, bad on/off, volume buttons and creaks. Let's hope most of us get lucky with the B70 revision
Now i gotta check if i have an Elite Tegra. Lol...

Because whining about imperfections that generally no one gets or cares about is annoying, especially when he already made a thread on the subject and decided to make a new thread just to QQ anyways.
For you perfectionists pricks: it's plastic, it's gonna creak, deal with it.
Dust and **** is fun stuff and all but we already know about all these issues since they have been posted about into oblivion already. If your smarmy self-righteous self wants to walk in here and say the exact same thing as every god damn other person before you, stating the obvious over and over again, then maybe it is you that has bigger issues than dust under the screen that you should be worrying about.

Look, we all want things to be perfect. But let's be realistic here. This is not the most expensive tablet on the market. There's going to be some flaws here. Some people can't see them but I bet there's an issue with every single one, even if the screen is off by a millimeter.
Instead of exchanging the tablets 4-5 different times, the smarter thing to do would be to get something else, maybe a G-tab or gasp, an iPad 2 (with fewer quality control issues). All you're doing is putting yourself through frustration, and really, no one can help you with that one besides yourself.
I cant believe there is ANOTHER one of these threads open. If you think the transformer sucks so bad go buy an ipad I love my transformer
B50
I've a B50 16GB model only and a little bit of light-bleed and a little bit of cracking...I decided it is not enough to have them exchanged.
A tablet that is for 95% good is quite good

Sure. You don't have to accept anything you don't like. The problem is you keep going back to the same product and assuming it will magically get better is unrealistic. One or two exchanges? Sure. But FIFTH? and made a thread about whining about it? Please turn on your TV and watch some news to see some real problems out there.
I've had my B1 for a couple of months, with absolutely no problems, but I'm puzzled about what the "B50" and "B70" references in this thread mean, related to the TF. I can't recall ever seeing them before.

[Poll] Is the Samsung Galaxy Note a "phablet" or a "tablephone?"

I've heard both terms used in the media to describe our devices; but since we actually own Galaxy Notes, shouldn't we decide what moniker our devices carry?
So... if you agree with me, speak up! Cast your votes below. Tell us why you think one is better than the other. Or, if you feel that neither adequately describes our beloved devices, tell us what term you'd use... and why. Personally, I'm partial to "tablephone." Not because it sounds good; because it doesn't. But because "phablet" sounds like a nickname I'd give to one of my love-handles.
So... go ahead and tell us what you think!

I dont see a poll but official under samsung's product line this is a phone.
Non of the above.
It's just a phone, and a very great one.
Shouldn't this thread be under Q&A?
*rolleyes* It's a Mobile Tablet.
Since I wanted each and every person to explain his/her opinion, I opted to not use a traditional poll and instead ask forum members to just "chime in" with their opinions. I felt like that would help to better illustrate not only which term is more popular, but why.

Oh, and as far as the "Q & A" concerns go, I didn't post this in "Q & A" because I'm not asking a question about any kind of problem, and I'm not looking for a right or wrong answer either. I didn't want this posted where people go looking for help. If my Note was having problems and I desparately needed questions to be answered, the last thing I would want to do is sift through this crap while trying to get my problem fixed. I just wanted this to be a playful, interesting collection of opinions and maybe some minor debate. There's no REAL question here.

Sorry, but this is just a waste of time! We've already had two locked threads that I'm aware of regarding "what" the Note should be called.
The primary reason I carry my Note around with me at all times is the phone function, but in reality I spend more time surfing the internet on it than I do using it as a phone. However, if it didn't have the phone function, I wouldn't carry it around at all times, and thus would actually use it far less than I currently do.
Small tablet or large phone - does it really matter?

Dave

You're right. It doesn't REALLY matter what it's called. But I thought it might be fun for some of us to explain why one nickname is better than the other; or create all new nicknames for it. Now I think THAT would be fun. Just think of all the word-play combinations you could come up with. I mean... come on... "phablet?"... is that the best there is? I was thinking of something like "tab-o-phone" or something similar that sounds like an ad agency from the '50s came up with it.
I suppose someone could come along and lock this thread. But I really don't see how it's doing anyone any harm. I honestly just thought it might be kinda fun. If it has offended or hindered you in any way, I sincerely apologize. That was not my intent. You are absolutely right. This is a waste of time. That's the whole point. Defects of HTC One

Hi pals. This is my first post in this forum and hope many will follow. I'll get straight to the point.
I've been away from XDA for quite some time and haven't followed HTC One forums. Today, I looked through few pages but couldn't actually find what I was looking for, a thread of all the defects of the phone. When I first bought HTC One X I did a thorough research on the phone and keeping everything in mind I went for the phone. I knew every single defect the early batches had so I got a right phone back then. The problem is, I don't really know what hardware defects are there in the early batches of the phones being shipped and I'm really in a mood to get one as soon as next week.
Further, the price of HTC One in my area is at $860 and it's something I can't comprehend. The price is $575 so with little alteration it should be around $600 max. One of my friends is in States these days and he'll be back next week. I'm gonna ask him to get One for me on his way back. I need to know are there any defects in the phone? I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXCHANGE OR CLAIM FOR WARRANTY ETC so I need something solid. The price of the phone is not going down soon here so I have to get it from the US through my friend. But I don't wanna end up with a defected phone. Please the users of HTC One and everybody else who knows write me here if there's something.
If you still are unable to understand what I mean then have a look HERE. This is what I want.

2. OP needs to just read thru the forum and compile his own master list instead of relying on others to do the legwork for him... Dont be lazy

Ever heard that if you don't have anything positive to say, then don't say anything at all? The OP is only trying to help.
On mine OP, I have 1 dead pixel at the top left (not enough of an annoyance to swap the handset) I've noticed that where I've been pulling out the charger, the plastic seems to have raised up a bit and also when using for a while it gets pretty hot but I think this is just down to the metal casing.
Other things I've heard is the capacative buttons being unresponsive at times, a few camera issues that seem to have been sorted with an update and the gap issue mentioned above.
Other than that I can't say I've got any huge problems.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Almost no problems here, the bottom part of the volume button is ever so slightly raised higher than the top one. Although there is some game lag with games such as doodlejump, temple run, temple run 2, jetpack joyride. Overall this is the best gadget I've ever owned and I've owned lots
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
As far as the problems concerned,
tiny gap on top or bottom of the phone(about 15 - 20% of the phone)
Unresponsive back button(most of the handset)
dead pixel(5 - 10% of the phone)
Less than a day(12-14hrs) battery life(i think no problem after few cycles)
contrast of the screens are varying on different carriers(not big issue)
there is already one thread that is discussing these issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2247601
No gaps, the white plastic bezel around the phone is a good spot to check around, mine has what looks like a crack through it, and a few flaws. Pretty decent light bleed in the bottom right as well.
Comin guys this gap issue is way overblown.
After reading this forum about the gap issue, and the screen is not flush enough issue, I was scared to order one. But I did anyway, and my dev edition came in perfect condition.
If it weren't about reading people complaining about the gap issue, I wouldn't have noticed it or try to look for it. And when I did, I saw this mini tiny minuscule gap only on one corner, you can't see it with the naked eyes, you have to slide you finger in there in order to feel it. I was like noway I am returning the phone because of this.
I didn't even bother to download a pixel tester to see if there are any dead pixel, to my naked eyes I can't see any.
Enjoy the phone , I am sure you will not keep it for more than 2 years before another one comes out and you decide to upgrade.

I never noticed it before and kinda wish I was still ignorant about it. I did have to pull a small hair out of the gap the other day, but now my skinomi invisible shield covers the gap. I'm also having trouble with is the back and home button not responding all the time, but then I'll push it like 10 times in a row and it will always work. I think it's a software issue because it seems to only happen in certain menues. Has anyone else noticed that? If this continues to annoy me I'm going to have to switch to the s4.

I am using 1.29.1540 and I do not have issues with the capacitive button.
Sometimes, I press it and it does not respond. My trick is to use the palm of your thumb not the tip, so that you can cover more area when pressing the button.

Why do we need two threads about issues with the HTC One? We'll just attract trolls.
By the way, defect means fault that does not meet the original spec. All defective HTC One devices should get replaced under warranty.

I just cut holes in my screen protector and the response problem seems to be completely cured.
My opinion based off what I experienced with this issue is that the screen protector cut off some sensitivity plus touching the back or home button and part of the screen at the same time is what caused this problem.

G2 issues, any solutions/suggestions?

I am really thinking of selling this thing. I put it up at Craigslist just to see what kind of bites I get on it. I'm just having a hard time with some stuff:
Proximity sensor is weird, at times the screen doesn't turn on when I put the phone down when calling someone, and other times when calling someone and I put it up to my ear the phone seems to go to sleep and the call is disconnected. Sometimes when the phone doesn't turn on again the knock on sensor doesn't work and I have to use the power button.
Knock on doesn't work half the time. I've tried every variation of fast, slow, and keeping my finger in the middle. Sometimes it works beautifully , others times it takes 4 or 5 tries.
Random battery drain, seems it's that CIQ GPS issue, but it just randomly pops up and if the phone is in my pocket drains half of it in an hour or 2.
Rear buttons are getting annoying. They are sensitive, if it's in my pocket and I'm listening to music even a light tap of my pocket and the volume is affected. I can't really get used to them.
Speaker is TERRIBLE. I did the audio hack on here and raised it to 68, I also tried the Viper4android app, neither of them made much difference. Even if they did, it's still mono so doesn't make for a great emergency boombox. I can be in a quiet room and it's bordering on useless.
Even with CleanROM installed I still get occasional lag, it's only minor, but it just bums me out with such powerful hardware.
The rest of my complaints are with Android and things that are just not polished or ready for prime time, but that should be another subject.
Pluses:
The screen is insane, and it's VERY easy to read in sunlight.
The battery life (when not bugged) is pretty insane as well.
Android is cool to tinker with.
Who else is on the fence?
Err no

Sure you just didnt get a monday-version of the phone?
I mean.. I have had a BLAST with the G2 so far.
I wouldnt sell it if I got the double for what I paid.
Well.. I would.. and I would buy another one !
But on my G2 I have no issues whatsoever. Not rooted or anything yet though.
O.P, you have a defect.
My phone definitely doesn't act like that. I'd try exchanging first before selling it altogether
Why did you wait till after the return window was closed? I'm afraid Craigslist would only net you some low ballers.
I'm not sure which carrier version you have but if it's a Verizon version expect nothing but low ball offers.

I tend to wonder if people start threads like this in the forum of the phone they are selling just to get attention. Just sell it and move away quietly. No one really cares.

Seriously, taking the time to lecture me about what I should post is just as bad as me starting a discussion. It's a forum after all. If you have something which might help that would be great, have you experienced the same issues? Do I maybe have a defective unit? Do you know of any fixes which might help the issues I have?

OP, What's sad is if you had my phone, you wouldn't sell it. So far mine is perfect & has no issues @ all. Have you considered trying to buy a brand new G2?
If you were really looking for issues to fix the phone you would ask that instead of whining about selling it

Been using the Verizon variant and so far am really enjoying it. After being on touchwiz for so long, the G2 is a refreshing new experience.

I may try to go through LG warranty. Anyone think they would give me an issue if I don't have a receipt and wasn't the original buyer?

I did ask, but thanks for your whining about my whining.
You definitely must have a defective unit, mine is so good. Previously had a Galaxy 3 & I'm not regretting the decision to skip the S4.
Best phone I've used, ever.

I don't think so. The phone just came out so the warranty is still good provided there's no water damage or anything major.
spinedoc said:
I originally bought it off CL for $400, maybe that's why they sold it, lol. I already got 2 offers for $400 so should at least break even. Maybe I have a defective one, but don't feel like going thru LG warranty.

I reeeeeeeally hope the buyer of your defective phone will end up here on Xda, finding this thread. He then might have a case against you since you sold him a phone you knew didn't work properly.

I haven't sold my phone. I will probably send it in to LG to see what they think, I just was hesitant to do that in case they can't replicate the problems. I didn't feel like waiting a month just to have them send it back and say it's fine. Seems they are intermittent. Most of the time the phone functions well, other than a slight lag. The proximity sensor issues are fairly occasional, but I haven't had the phone in a while. The knock on sensor is about 1/3 the time, but anecdotally I've read lots of other users having the same issue so that may be a universal problem with maybe a batch of them. The battery drain issue is also a well known bug with CIQ which some experience.

You need the reciept.
Doesnt matter if you're not the original owner or not though.

Open letter to Nexus about defective screens

I have owned an original Nexus 7 since its inception. I have recommended it to everyone and I am responsible for several people purchasing them. However, when it comes to the 2013 model I have recommended to everyone NOT to purchase one for the obvious reasons.
It is difficult to understand why a company like Nexus is so reluctant to correct a known
problem with an otherwise fantastic product. A few people here have done all the work for Nexus and gone to the trouble of diagnosing the problem (grounding) and even correcting it on there devices, yet Nexus won't even admit there is a problem. I'm sure someone from Nexus monitors this site (or anywhere on the Internet for that matter) and they are completely aware of the problem. Why does a company go out of there way to create a device that appeals to people who love to work on them but when they receive valid feedback they ignore it.
For the individuals who believe there is nothing wrong you should be aware your screen should perform flawlessly (at least as well as the original 7) whether it is plugged in or not. You are doing a real dis-service when you say "sure it misses a few touches or has a few phantom touches its still better then most other devices". This might be true. But, would you accept a great car that occasionally when you turn the steering wheel it didn't respond or it randomly turned on its own.
The bottom line is the screen interface is DEFECTIVE. I wanted so badly to purchase a new one but, after 3 units all with the defect I'm not willing to void the warranty and fix it myself especially on a device that that the manufacturer won't even admit when there is a defect.

Nexus does not exist as a company.. They are licensed by Google and built by Asus.

That is exactly how I feel. I have told people on here, Google, Youtube, and other sites who asked about the issues to get there money back. I personally had 2 that had each major issues. I loved it but it's issues made me very disappointed. I showed the associates each time I returned them what was wrong and they had no idea they had problems. You could tell by them trying it themselves they truly had no idea. How many owners except it, don't realize there is issues like children using them. It is such a shame that a company can make a product that honestly needs to be recalled but it just gets swept under a rug. I will not buy another one and I will never buy an ASUS product again. I am getting the hp slate 7 extreme and will be happy with the slightly lower resolution screen but the screen actually working as it should automatically makes it superior to the N713.
I would have no issue recommending the current model to people, just because a vocal minority ate having issues does not mean the device is flawed, mine is perfect, bought the first weekend of availability, and used daily, so hard in that it's a perfect device, bit I would not actually day that

You say vocal minority. When in fact if you google it there are over 28 million results of screen touch issues. That is no minority. You say yours is perfect then download the screen test apps an run the tests and post videos of the results both in your hands and propped up in a case or laying flat on a couch cushion. If you get phantom touches or missed touches anywhere at anytime it is a defect. It would be exactly the same as going to buy a new car that wont go into drive once in a while. If yours has no issues then consider yourself a lottery winner!

Do you understand how search engines work? You simply cannot infer anything from such a search, which can bring up the same individual's multiple complaints across multiple forums, forum posts with "blank" instead of "problem" (because Google thinks it's a similar enough word), the same forum thread in regular as well as printer-friendly versions, and people saying, "no problem with this device."
A Google search for "Nexus 7 2013 screen problems" yields "About 96,100,000 results" for me. So what is that, 961,000 people complaining 100 times each? It surely isn't 9.61 million complaining 10 times each. This isn't to say there aren't units with problems, but do a Google search for your least-favorite politician's name along with "pedophile" and see what happens. Again, you simply cannot infer anything from such a search.
I've run test apps on mine, before and after. Initially my unit had poor sensitivity, alleviated by the ts10 file from this popular fix. Yes, I had to take a few minutes to do things that Google should have done, but in the end it can take less effort to make a quick fix yourself instead of waiting for someone else.

I do not have problem with normal use but when I display the test pattern I can see ghost touches or erratic touches.
I fact I think that is hardware problem, it look's like the digitiser A/D converter DC supply noisy (to low decoupling capacitors) or shielding/grounding issue.
The problem is that I was not abble to find any schematics to investigate more.
To be continued...
The touch test in the play store is bogus. I bought my device the day it came out and have never had any touch problems. Only with the app, it starts jumping, and that app is the only time its showed something. Take a screenshot of any pattern, try it with the screenshot. Nothing happens.
I'm not saying that some devices don't have issues, but the numbers not as much as some claim. If you have problems, use the ts10 fix.

Try going to the Developer Options, and enable "Show Touches." That would show you if there are phantom touches or not.

Have you tried this one? This is the one that I use, and I know that it isn't bogus.

The touches that are registered reflect the behavior of the tablet.
Posting here does nothing for you. XDA isnt google. XDA isn't Asus. if you have a problem contact Asus and or google.. All this /waaa in a thread on a dev site is nothing but wasted kb.

Nice app, no phantom touches.
People are being fooled with the Nexus 7 II Tester app in the play store. It has patterns which generate fake touches.

I agree. Also OP, if you really want a manufacturer to take you seriously you should probably do a bit more research before sending them a letter, you didn't even come close to getting the company's name correct as has already been said. Either google or asus, or both, but not 'nexus'.

Asus or Google wouldn't release any kind of schematics for their proprietary electronics. Try the fix in the thread I linked to. It seems there are hardware variances among new N7s, for which the right software patch can compensate.
