Hi pals. This is my first post in this forum and hope many will follow. I'll get straight to the point.
I've been away from XDA for quite some time and haven't followed HTC One forums. Today, I looked through few pages but couldn't actually find what I was looking for, a thread of all the defects of the phone. When I first bought HTC One X I did a thorough research on the phone and keeping everything in mind I went for the phone. I knew every single defect the early batches had so I got a right phone back then. The problem is, I don't really know what hardware defects are there in the early batches of the phones being shipped and I'm really in a mood to get one as soon as next week.
Further, the price of HTC One in my area is at $860 and it's something I can't comprehend. The price is $575 so with little alteration it should be around $600 max. One of my friends is in States these days and he'll be back next week. I'm gonna ask him to get One for me on his way back. I need to know are there any defects in the phone? I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXCHANGE OR CLAIM FOR WARRANTY ETC so I need something solid. The price of the phone is not going down soon here so I have to get it from the US through my friend. But I don't wanna end up with a defected phone. Please the users of HTC One and everybody else who knows write me here if there's something.
If you still are unable to understand what I mean then have a look HERE. This is what I want.
Regards

1. You obviously can't read . he is asking for a master list of all known defects so he can check for them before the phone leaves the store. He doesn't care what your phones condition is.
2. OP needs to just read thru the forum and compile his own master list instead of relying on others to do the legwork for him... Dont be lazy

Ever heard that if you don't have anything positive to say, then don't say anything at all? The OP is only trying to help.
On mine OP, I have 1 dead pixel at the top left (not enough of an annoyance to swap the handset) I've noticed that where I've been pulling out the charger, the plastic seems to have raised up a bit and also when using for a while it gets pretty hot but I think this is just down to the metal casing.
Other things I've heard is the capacative buttons being unresponsive at times, a few camera issues that seem to have been sorted with an update and the gap issue mentioned above.
Other than that I can't say I've got any huge problems.

Almost no problems here, the bottom part of the volume button is ever so slightly raised higher than the top one. Although there is some game lag with games such as doodlejump, temple run, temple run 2, jetpack joyride. Overall this is the best gadget I've ever owned and I've owned lots

As far as the problems concerned,
tiny gap on top or bottom of the phone(about 15 - 20% of the phone)
Unresponsive back button(most of the handset)
dead pixel(5 - 10% of the phone)
Less than a day(12-14hrs) battery life(i think no problem after few cycles)
contrast of the screens are varying on different carriers(not big issue)
there is already one thread that is discussing these issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2247601
No gaps, the white plastic bezel around the phone is a good spot to check around, mine has what looks like a crack through it, and a few flaws. Pretty decent light bleed in the bottom right as well.
Comin guys this gap issue is way overblown.
After reading this forum about the gap issue, and the screen is not flush enough issue, I was scared to order one. But I did anyway, and my dev edition came in perfect condition.
If it weren't about reading people complaining about the gap issue, I wouldn't have noticed it or try to look for it. And when I did, I saw this mini tiny minuscule gap only on one corner, you can't see it with the naked eyes, you have to slide you finger in there in order to feel it. I was like noway I am returning the phone because of this.
I didn't even bother to download a pixel tester to see if there are any dead pixel, to my naked eyes I can't see any.
Enjoy the phone , I am sure you will not keep it for more than 2 years before another one comes out and you decide to upgrade.

I never noticed it before and kinda wish I was still ignorant about it. I did have to pull a small hair out of the gap the other day, but now my skinomi invisible shield covers the gap. I'm also having trouble with is the back and home button not responding all the time, but then I'll push it like 10 times in a row and it will always work. I think it's a software issue because it seems to only happen in certain menues. Has anyone else noticed that? If this continues to annoy me I'm going to have to switch to the s4.

Anyone have light bleed from the capacitive buttons?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I am using 1.29.1540 and I do not have issues with the capacitive button.
Sometimes, I press it and it does not respond. My trick is to use the palm of your thumb not the tip, so that you can cover more area when pressing the button.

Why do we need two threads about issues with the HTC One? We'll just attract trolls.
By the way, defect means fault that does not meet the original spec. All defective HTC One devices should get replaced under warranty.

I just cut holes in my screen protector and the response problem seems to be completely cured.
My opinion based off what I experienced with this issue is that the screen protector cut off some sensitivity plus touching the back or home button and part of the screen at the same time is what caused this problem.

Came home today to find that I had received my G2 from the promotion they had last week and turns out this one has a different hinge than my first one.
No biggie, I never thought the first one had that big of an issue but nevertheless I made a video showing the 2 side by side.

So you do reckon they have actually resolved the issue now or have you just got one that is tighter than ur 1st one?
Looks like a change in materials!
I still don't see the fuss about the hinge though.
What fusses me more is that I've gone through 3 G2s and each of them had a pixel problem, be it stuck or dead. Had to use a microscopic-ish lens to find them. Lawl.
I am so jealous right now.

Don't be. People have mentioned that even over time, the hinge will get loose again (this is inevitable, all springs give way over time). So be content with what you have if you have a bug-free phone!

Was it a new upgrade or a replacement, when did you get the first one?
First of all, you may want to get yourself a nice camera that can do HD video recording.
Secondly, your second G2 with the tight hinges is exactly how my G2 was when I first got it. It was super tight, no give, and then after a week of use it become really loose but not quite as loose as your first one. Give it time, and I'm pretty confident that your new G2 will call the loose hinge flu. Let's hope not, though.
My G2 has an intermittent touch screen issue. T-Mobile says it's a known issue. This is unacceptable for me. Aný recommendations? Different model, brand ect. Thanks

Are you sure it's not this issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910624? This is a problem inherent with capacitive touchscreens (though some phones may be more susceptible than others depending on design and tolerances).
If not, you might want to try starting a new thread about it instead of trying to get help through one about the hinge (especially if it really is a known issue, others may be able to provide solutions).

No it doesn't, you just don't understand the nuances of capacitive touch sensors. YOU NEED TO COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT by having solid contact with the metal ring around the outside of the screen.
I've been playing with couple different dummy units at the stores
Like best buy and radio shack. They got no hinge problem at all. But really my wife got a g2 that has the problem but she doesn't say anything at all. me neither. I don't see why the problem would make me go have a replacement though. Unless theres something else. But so far so good

Hi,
I am wondering if I should exchange my device. There is a minor problem with the screen. It is not really a detached screen as I haven't notice any pop up so far. Yet, I can hear little cracking sounds when I pressed the area around the front facing camera. So, what you guys think I should do? Also, if I get a new device, will all my downloaded apps be there once I signed in my google acount?
Great thanks!!!
I'm not sure if you should return it but if you think it could get worse it wouldn't hurt, and once you get your new tablet you can restore your Google account with all the apps you have back onto the new one.

Does it really bother you? If it does, exchange it. If it doesn't, keep it.
Or to put it another way, would you have ever noticed it if people here didn't point it out? You could get a perfect device when you exchange it, could get one with a different problem.

It doesn't bother me much. As I said, the area does not pop up and the creaking sound comes out only when I press the area on purpose(wont't touch the camera at all). I expect the product to be perfect even it is 250. Just wanna see if you guys will bear a minor defect or returning it.

I disagree with the "don't nitpick" statement. Did you paid 250+ dollars for a tablet that squeaks and crackles if you touch it a certain way? That is what a warranty is for. Its your choice to take advantage of your warranty or not, however, just the fact that you asked should answer your question. I had one dead pixel and returned mine for a new one and the second one is perfect. If it wasn't I would have likely had my money refunded and waited until the hardware kinks were worked out. There is always risk involved when being an early adopter of new tech... but the risk isn't that you have to eat a defective device. It is personal preference but when I spend money I worked to earn and purchase a device brand new I expect it to be perfect out of the box. If it is a manufacturer defect then use your warranty and get a device that doesn't make you want to ask if you should return it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Be careful with this one. If the screen itself is fine and doesn't raise, and you are suffering no other problems, I would keep it. The replacement could just as easily have the screen raise problem.
The creaking is the casing I believe, if it's not in area you will be pushing lots in daily use I would just keep it.
I've had plenty creaky gadgets before, and I found a neat trick. Get some silicon based lubricant spray, put some on your finger and rub your finger round the contact surfaces between the casing and the back cover, including all the clips etc. Works 100% of the time for me.

Then just return that one and get a new one. I really would not care if I had to send back 100 Nexus 7s to get a perfect one. It also keeps you from getting it too if you think about it. I know it can be a hassle sometimes, but that is what a warranty is for.

Thank you for your comment and I agree with you so much. I am just afraid if I exchange another one that is worse than my first one. But you are right, newly developed product is not an excuse. I also worked hard to buy myself this little toy and I don't want to play with it with special care. Since it is just the fourth day of my purchase, I will keep it for couple more days to see if it is actually a problem to me.

Pretty much normal for LCD displays, you can always get screen bleed to appear when viewing in the dark and at high/full brightness, it is a limitation of the technology. When you have it on auto or sensible brightness and use the phone normally can you notice it? If the answer is no, don't worry about it.

I wouldnt be surprised if the RMA was returned because of screen bleed and then they sent it to you and hoped you wouldnt notice. Every RMA is probably an old return since they dont even have new ones to sell.
Did you get the RMA right away or did you have to wait awhile? If it was right away then it must be a faulty return.

I bought three Nexii on November 27th and all three had screen bleed. I can't see OP's pictures to compare but each phone has a ~1/4" area of bleed with one phone having two. This has only been visible when playing a movie and a black screen is shown at the beginning. I don't notice it at boot up, for instance.
I don't know if this bothers me enough to RMA yet. My thinking is to punt the issue into next year, wait for supply to catch up with demand, and then RMA for a new unit. Two of my Nexii are going to relatives so unless they notice it, I don't think I'll bother RMAing them.
I remember seeing someone mention in a thread that LG can't seal an LCD to save their skins and that person is knowledgeable, in retrospect. The issue looks exactly like some adhesive wasn't applied or pressed down evenly during assembly. I wouldn't be surprised if assembly by hand is the cause of the problem, due to expediency in order to fulfill existing orders.

You cannot seriously believe they do this? They have separate batches for new sales and RMA.
I agree with everything u said. Mine has 3 bleeds 2 on top and one on the top left. Im not going to RMA my N4 though its a non win either way so many people get stuck in a RMA cycle. If your phones are good other than light bleeds ID stick with them. But that's your call good luck with everything.

My guess is that it's common practice. I know I've RMA'd devices to other manufacturers and gotten back "refurbished" devices. I'd be surprised if the refurbish process is any more complicated than booting it and looking for cracks in the glass.
A certain percentage of all electronics will be returned. A subset of those are perfectly functional devices. This is a function of having variable intelligence in the population. Now, rather than spend resources to determine which exactly of those returns are actually pristine devices that the mouthbreathers couldn't decipher, if the percentage in a sample is high enough, the company might well choose to mail out any that aren't obviously damaged and take the chance that the device will satisfy the customer. If it doesn't, they can always mail another.
Hiring a worker to mail things is a lot cheaper than hiring and training a worker to diagnose complex devices. It's also much slower, which means more labor costs. Even if they have to mail a device twice, it still comes out cheaper and faster than diagnosing every single return.
My misses just got her HTC ONE for her upgrade as she likes mine.
She got the black one and i noticed they still have issues with the speaker grills not sitting right.
Love my phone and its been great ( performance wise and no issues technically ) and she likes hers, but I'd have thought by now they'd have ironed out these silly issues.
She hasn't noticed it and it's gone straight into a case so she isn't bothered, I'm just surprised about this.
They're only issues if you allow them to be issues. Seriously, it's only a issue if the grill is hanging off lol
Quality control is quality control. Don't get me wrong. I love HTC. But they should get their **** together if they want to be world beaters.

Although I do understand where you are coming from, people put these phones together. Unless the people are perfect, there's no way the phone is gonna be perfect.
TBH, though, they're not that far off. They really aren't. I wouldnt mind but they done the hard part spot on, carve the aluminium etc etc.
It woudn't take all that much to fix the grill issue.
My phone does have a slightly rough edge to the screen and the speaker grill a the top has the gap a bit. I just think to myself, let them dry longer or, use better glue, or a bit more of it and apply some even pressure around the edges lol.
For a company that has build a damn good phone, it aint rocket science.

The one is designed and manufactured to be as thin as possible. On top of that they also implemented their 'zero gap' design. If you read some of the teardown threads, it's assembled in a way that allows zero room for error. Taking into account the fact that most people who receive a One that they consider to be perfect don't usually post about it at all, I'd say the actual defects of the one are a much smaller percentage than they appear to be on XDA.
Where HTC really impresses me is the fact that they seem to be 100% willing to warranty any device with any build quality issue. Obviously they should, after advertising a premium device with no gap and superior build quality to plastic phones. However, what major companies should do, and what they really do are not always the same. They can not promise you a perfect phone, but they are willing to replace it until you receive on that satisfies you.
Where they fail, is with that replacement device. Any mass produced product is going to have defects, and some will make it past quality control, this is inevitable. But devices going to customers who have already sent in devices due to build quality issues should have added levels of quality control, to ensure no one gets two bad phone. That would save them a lot of negative publicity.

Just thought I'd update here. So far I'm going to be on my fourth warranty exchange in less than 3 weeks. The second I got had USB port issues. The one ingot today had this weird glue around the top speaker grill and the grill looked like it wasn't even on straight. And the top speaker didnt even work. The build quality was sub par. Not acceptable. Called right away and they are overnighting me another tomorrow. Hopefully this one is accetable. If not I'm done with HTC. Has anyone had some kind of glue type substance around the grills or where the gaps are. I mean why do they think they can send me this and call is acceptable. ?? Sorry I didn't like spending hours on the phone. Most of it was correcting and issue the first rep made by not even processing the order. Tmobile USA. Come on.

Dude I'm dealing with the same issue with tmobile, it's not htc it's tmobile sending out bad refurbished models I'm waiting on my third one and then I'm giving up. They don't seem to get it that the speaker grills have glue sticking out or it looks chipped inbetween the grill and plastic. If the new one I get is the same I'm going to take pictures and post all over tmobile support advising to people thats what tmobile calls acceptable. They suggested me going eip for a new phone, they just want money and don't seem to care that I paid in full for a faulty device, my defects didn't start showing up till after the first 30 days passed, and I bet they are going to lag on the update as well, situations like this make me hate these companies and there policies, they try to sound so cheerful over the phone but they don't understand that we don't deserve to be given broken devices over things we didn't break but sadly we can't do much to over power them they will just be like "again we are sorry for the inconvenience can we send you another" they make me sick

That sucks man. When I first opened the package I saw what at first looked like a scuff. Then I noticed it on both sides of the top speaker grill. I'd say that was the worst built phone I've ever seen. The grills didn't line up, the screen wasn't flush and it looked beat up around the sides. I've never had build issues with other phones. I agree with you. If this one today is bad I'll call customer loyalty and see what else they can get me. I'm not particularly picky but I'd have to be something within the same price range. I know they've offered alternative exchanges before. I think they try not yo as much anymore. 5$ every time you exchange adds up plus they charged me 7.99 for shipping of my charger that was defective. At the end of it all I'm going to see if they'll credit me.

Customer loyalty are the reps that you get transfered to when you want to cancel . they will do almost anything to keep you with the company. They are traditionally called retention but Tmobile calls then customer loyalty. I've had them send me a brand new phone just to keep my business. Although it depends on how long you've been a customer, and I've you have credits given in the past. I used to work for Tmobile years and years ago and used to shadow these guys from time to time.

I haven't had any credits, and I've been a customer for two years but yea I've heard of retention, well I will try them if the next one is faulty again, I really don't want a different device but this stuff is just ridiculous, I have screen lift and a tiny screen leak that htc told me to be dangerous plus the camera issue

Im supposed to get mine today. Hopefully its acceptable enough for me to keep. Yeah I'd hate a different device also. There was a reason I chose this over sgs4.

Update: finally got my replacement in the mail. I'd have to say they really worked on getting me a zero gap device. Everything is aligned. No glue stocking out of the grills. No problems with the buttons. No gaps at all. Software is also running great. I was gonna call right away again if there were issues but I'm actually shocked they came through. Now to see how fast they can get 4.3 out.

I am really thinking of selling this thing. I put it up at Craigslist just to see what kind of bites I get on it. I'm just having a hard time with some stuff:
Proximity sensor is weird, at times the screen doesn't turn on when I put the phone down when calling someone, and other times when calling someone and I put it up to my ear the phone seems to go to sleep and the call is disconnected. Sometimes when the phone doesn't turn on again the knock on sensor doesn't work and I have to use the power button.
Knock on doesn't work half the time. I've tried every variation of fast, slow, and keeping my finger in the middle. Sometimes it works beautifully , others times it takes 4 or 5 tries.
Random battery drain, seems it's that CIQ GPS issue, but it just randomly pops up and if the phone is in my pocket drains half of it in an hour or 2.
Rear buttons are getting annoying. They are sensitive, if it's in my pocket and I'm listening to music even a light tap of my pocket and the volume is affected. I can't really get used to them.
Speaker is TERRIBLE. I did the audio hack on here and raised it to 68, I also tried the Viper4android app, neither of them made much difference. Even if they did, it's still mono so doesn't make for a great emergency boombox. I can be in a quiet room and it's bordering on useless.
Even with CleanROM installed I still get occasional lag, it's only minor, but it just bums me out with such powerful hardware.
The rest of my complaints are with Android and things that are just not polished or ready for prime time, but that should be another subject.
Pluses:
The screen is insane, and it's VERY easy to read in sunlight.
The battery life (when not bugged) is pretty insane as well.
Android is cool to tinker with.
Who else is on the fence?
Err no

Sure you just didnt get a monday-version of the phone?
I mean.. I have had a BLAST with the G2 so far.
I wouldnt sell it if I got the double for what I paid.
Well.. I would.. and I would buy another one !
But on my G2 I have no issues whatsoever. Not rooted or anything yet though.
O.P, you have a defect.
My phone definitely doesn't act like that. I'd try exchanging first before selling it altogether
Why did you wait till after the return window was closed? I'm afraid Craigslist would only net you some low ballers.
I'm not sure which carrier version you have but if it's a Verizon version expect nothing but low ball offers.

OP is alone on this one. So far it's been the best phone I've owned. The screen and battery kill all.
I tend to wonder if people start threads like this in the forum of the phone they are selling just to get attention. Just sell it and move away quietly. No one really cares.

I originally bought it off CL for $400, maybe that's why they sold it, lol. I already got 2 offers for $400 so should at least break even. Maybe I have a defective one, but don't feel like going thru LG warranty.

I always wonder about people complaining about threads like this, if they are just trying to get attention. Just read it and move away quietly, no one really cares.
Seriously, taking the time to lecture me about what I should post is just as bad as me starting a discussion. It's a forum after all. If you have something which might help that would be great, have you experienced the same issues? Do I maybe have a defective unit? Do you know of any fixes which might help the issues I have?
well then there is no point in this thread, other then arouse people, and for what...
oh snap troll baited.

OP, What's sad is if you had my phone, you wouldn't sell it. So far mine is perfect & has no issues @ all. Have you considered trying to buy a brand new G2?
If you were really looking for issues to fix the phone you would ask that instead of whining about selling it

Been using the Verizon variant and so far am really enjoying it. After being on touchwiz for so long, the G2 is a refreshing new experience.

I may try to go through LG warranty. Anyone think they would give me an issue if I don't have a receipt and wasn't the original buyer?

I did ask, but thanks for your whining about my whining.
You definitely must have a defective unit, mine is so good. Previously had a Galaxy 3 & I'm not regretting the decision to skip the S4.
Best phone I've used, ever.

I don't think so. The phone just came out so the warranty is still good provided there's no water damage or anything major.

I reeeeeeeally hope the buyer of your defective phone will end up here on Xda, finding this thread. He then might have a case against you since you sold him a phone you knew didn't work properly.

I haven't sold my phone. I will probably send it in to LG to see what they think, I just was hesitant to do that in case they can't replicate the problems. I didn't feel like waiting a month just to have them send it back and say it's fine. Seems they are intermittent. Most of the time the phone functions well, other than a slight lag. The proximity sensor issues are fairly occasional, but I haven't had the phone in a while. The knock on sensor is about 1/3 the time, but anecdotally I've read lots of other users having the same issue so that may be a universal problem with maybe a batch of them. The battery drain issue is also a well known bug with CIQ which some experience.

You need the reciept.
Doesnt matter if you're not the original owner or not though.
Edit: This is according to Norwegian\Scandinavian laws btw.
