Snapdragon 800 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Its a shame the 800 processor wasnt ready when the galaxy s4 was being constructed as I still find my s4 slow to react to commands yes the last update helped but it should be better,I love the design of the s4 and the beautiful screen, I wonder if the galaxy note 3 will have the snapdragon 800 under the bonnet..

If you believe samfirmware the note 3 will have a s800 or the new exynos.

You cant notice but technology is fast moving. After galaxy note 3 release and s5 there will be a new set of hardwares again.
You have to accept that in time your phone will be outdated regardless of how much you buy it.
You dont need to worry... thats the way it is..

if you want an s800 processor for the s4 buy this instead
shv-e330s
this korean variant is equipped with an s800

Galaxy s2 vs Galaxy Nexus vs Galaxy s3

I've had my I9100 for a while and currently its running Resurrection Remix Rom 2.5.3. I'm kind of getting tired of this phone but don't know which one should I get, I can trade my phone for a nexus or I can spend about 200-300 more on a s3. Any kind of input would be greatly appreciated. Or should I wait for the new nexus phones out due in October?

S3 way to expensive for what it can do, Nexus way to buggy low camera but best software ROM created by Google and S2 best choice in my opinion ...
Have a nice day.

I suggest u'd worth be patience to wait the next nexus (motorola?) Coz the it's Google golden boy as it'll be updated like a dancer frequently..

Keep the galaxy s2 and wait for S4 quad CPUs + Adreno 320
Galaxy nexus will not be an upgrade for you
Because power vr 540 is much weaker than mail 400
Also TI OMAP 4460 is not better than exynos
The camera is 5 MP compared to 8 MP in the S2
The screen is pentile which is worse than your current screen (trust me it is the worst ever in my opinion)
Developers support is much better for the S2 compared to the Nexus
Good luck!
Stay with S2 and wait for Note II or the new Nexus, any other smartphone wont be much better from S2.
Yeah I checked out the nexus in person and I'm just looking for a better looking larger display with lte, I guess I'll hold out for the new nexus

Forget to buy those phones as it's late already. Only buy a phone max. 1 month after the phone is released.
I recommend the next nexus because google is the real boss in terms of android, not samsung.

I mean, what is the point if not to simply wait 6 months and then do it. Price will be lower etc.. at least that... At the end, you have a great piece of smartphone which is doing fine, like now
ps: looking forward to see the price tag on S4 and then the next Note. Christmas discounts beats them all at the end... and then, it's each to his own Comming from SGS II I skipped S III as it was flawed, no leap, no nothing IMO. Saw S IV might give the boost, but still I doubt seen CM Dev's are turning their back at it... Dunno, I must evaluate, but no S iV Mini is a true upgrade option for me...
Cheers,
Fevv.

yes me too. BUT...
I hate Nexus 4's display. so much blue. the dark black is bluish (blue-ish). And the display is not calibrated and again what I hate about Nexus phones is the camera is bad. Although the phone is very fast and I love the pure stock Google's Android experience!
and by the way, how much the Nexus 4 priced in your country? mine is $500, I'm in Indonesia.. SO EXPENSIVE!!

Galaxy S4 U.S. with Exynos 5 Octa

Does anyone know if their is a chance that Samsung might release a Exynos 5 Octa chipset in the U.S. later on rather than the Snapdragon 600.
I wish samsung would have waited until they were able to manufacture more Exynos 5 Octa chipset until they released the GS4 but instead they got it out as fast as they could so they can beat out htc one sales
99% that you wont get Exynos...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Depends on lte. So here in the US, lte is dominant so it will be the SD600 for us
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Wait until the international version comes to the market. It will be a little expensive but u can order it to US as well. But exynos will be quite futurisitc. Sam mobile get thier hands on the octa variant and the benchmarks are topping 27k in quadrant standards..
Htc one is at 19k, so i dont guess any flagship can compete the s4 atleast in 2013. So they actually saved it for a latter release so that their phone can top twice.

LTE on the GT-i9500?

I am purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S-IV GT-i9500 and I was hoping that I could somehow get it to work with LTE on AT&T. Is this possible. Like by flashing a new modem or something?
Thanks in advance.

That's a shame, because you won't be getting 8-cores. You'll be getting two sets of 4 - there's a difference.

4 + 4 = 8. I am very aware of how the technology works. I would still rather have the Exynos 5 Octacore processor.

Actually: CPU Quad-core 1.9 GHz Krait 300 (I9505) VS. Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 (I9500).
In tests it seems that I9505 was only some very small steps behind the 8 core... so I would think carefully. If you plan to change again the phone in next year or so, then yes, go for the 8 core. Otherwise, bear in mind that LTE will become more and more used... and cheaper

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy LTE speeds. But I almost always on WiFi. Probably 90-95 percent of the time I'm using my phone is on WiFi. So LTE is not a big deal to me. And like you said, if I plan on getting a new phone in a year then get the octacore. I get a new phone at least once a year sometimes more.

Not a chance. There really isn't any reason that Samsung would do that. They have already manufactured and moved millions (tens of?) of the lte version. Why on earth would they create another? Octa is just going to appear in their future tablets

To add to your statement. I just read several articles that discussed how the snapdragon processor is designed for the LTE bands used by USA carriers. The Exynos processor requires a lot of work by Samsung to make it work on lte in the us. The note 3 may be the first samsung phone to have the octacore and LTE in the us. But I don't want a 6 inch screen in my front pocket. That would be almost like putting an ipad mini of your pocket. Almost.

One thing I am seeing a lot of is that the GT-i9500 has an overheating problem. Does the GT-i9505 have the same problem or not? I also see a lot more development on the GT-i9505 but I really only want to root to de-bloat and I don't really need custom Ron for that.

The i9505 will only get hot under intensive use such as gaming or the likes. I had no choice in choosing an i9500 or i9505, but I don't mind. The octacore is all nice when the technology works as Samsung advertised it, but it doesn't, and the i9505 doesn't lag at all for me. Plenty of development and debloated ROM's to keep you happy.

Again, that's what was said about the S3. That quad core + lte was too hard but then the S3 4g i9305 was released. Remember from release they had a quad core + lte in Korea so why people were saying it was too hard beats me. And now again the Korean model is both Octa and lte.
My money is on an Octa + lte around September.

I am using a I9505. What I can say is that, while it get warm/hot under certain circumstances (mostly games + charging in parallel), it is the 'coldest' phone I had until now. Compared, even the S3 is getting much hotter. So far, I did not find the temperature as a disturbing point (as with several other phones).

Snapdragon pretty much always has better dev support here.
snapdragon but samsung always releases new firmware and sources first on their exynos devices before snapdragon. I would go for an exynos because it is easier for me to tweak with perseus kernel and has better memory management. gets hot but the processor and gpu are easier to manipulate. Snapdragon is cool though. byt then again, thats just me ranting about
