[Q] Computer problem; need to root with Odin - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

After much angst and now a bit of research, I have found that my Win7 x64 is having problems with adb that will require some tedious work, so I am unable to use the easier root methods, such as MotoChopper's tool, or some of the others out there, like Adam Outler's. In the meantime, I would like to ROOT MY PHONE, but I have not been able to find a reliable method that uses Odin. The adb problem would not be an issue in download mode. I have looked, but cannot find a true Odin method. Suggestions?
EDIT: Problem solved. Rooted & Loki'd CWM using bhp090808's very simple method at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297033.

[Q] Afterota V1.09

I tried doing the afterota v1.09 and all I get is the android on his back with the exclamation point coming out of his belly. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work. All I want is clockwork mod and it wont work. I have the ota ICS Version 4.0.3, image version Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1 and I also have root. Thanks for any help out there.
Bryant
You need to use Blackthund3r's APX root tool first. http://d-h.st/OhT
More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
Then you can use AfterOTA after that
I tried that and per the directions which are very sketchy, still can't get anything to work. I am a complete noob when it comes to this. My tablet has the official ICS and it is also rooted using iconia root. All I want is to install CWM so I can change my internal sd card of 16gb to external sd card of 32 gb. Anyone out there want to let me know how.
I also have downloaded ACER recovery Pro and when I load the CWM rev 1.7 by thor2002ro for ICS bootloader it works but when I want to reboot into recovery I get the dead android with the exclamation point. This makes me believe I have a locked bootloader. Any help out there would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Make sure you have the correct apx driver on your pc, then Blackthund3r's apx tool will wor to root and remove the stock recovery from overwriting any custom recoveries. Afterota will then work after that.
When it was asking for drivers I thought it meant acer usb drivers. I went and loaded the drivers that are on the A500 manager. Is this not the right place to get them. Also I thought with the otatool it was supposed to get the SBK# automatically, but it is not working. So do I need to get a driver for the APX tool and if so where do I find this?
Thanks,
Bryan
Need Guide
I'm on OTA ICS (4.0.3) Unlocked Bootloader on my a500.
I am reading various threads in Development section, regarding rooting and bootloader-unlocking, using either blackthund3r's ICSRoot Tool or AfterOTA. I'm more inclined towards using AfterOTA Tool. But I'm not able to find an exhaustive guide to use AfterOTA.
Appreciate if someone can provide any pointers to a step-by-step guide for using AfterOTA or any video demonstrating the process using AfterOTA
Thanks

Complete return to stock woes

Hey peeps
Ok so here's what I had:
A500 with ICS unlocked bootloader, CWM 10.1 and Thor recovery.
I've upgraded to a Samsung note and now want to flick off my A500. But before I do that I need to return to complete stock. I followed another websites guide (stupid me XDA all the way!) and now ended up in a pickle!
What the other website recommended was to download the OTA ICS (which I already had) and flash it like a normal ROM. I did that and the bootloader is still unlocked and I am not able to gain root on the custom ROM to repair the recovery (which gives me the little android on his back with red "!").
So here's where things get tricky. I can't regain root because ADB isn't detecting my device. I've tried every tool in blackthunders bag of tricks and they all come back saying "Done" but they don't actually work. I do have ATX mode and fastboot.
Can someone please help me figure out how to:
Get ADB working
Load stock bootloader
Get stock recovery back?
Thanks in advance!
PS: I've tried searching the forums and followed a number of threads and how to's but none seem to work for me
Ok update on this. I'm such a moron! I removed ADB drivers and re-installed. Once I got ADB working I simply used afterota (forgot I had it!) to flash stock and then do the update.zip trick

[Q] ClockworkMod Touch Installation

Does anyone have a step-by-step for installing CWM Touch?
I have downloaded recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.7-jflteatt.img but can't find ATT-specific instructions. Everything on the web says to use Odin. As far as I know, Odin doesn't work on this variant of the S4.
I've been using non-touch CWM for a long time without any problems but I want to give my power and volume buttons a break.
Answer
Nevermind. I figured it out. I downloaded loki_tool from djrbliss and used it to convert the img file into a lok file using aboot. The same tool was able to flash the recovery. All commands were done in terminal emulator without the need for a PC.

BLU Studio 5 HD LTE Y534Q - Root Method

I have seen roots posted for the Y530Q but not the Y534Q. I tried Framaroot (1.9.1). It only gives the Aragon option and fails. Kingroot both offline (APK) and via PC fails. The RootGenius method posted here, also fails.
Kingo Root worked for me:
Uninstall any other methods you have tried.
Install the adb-driver-installer here.
Install and run Kingo.
Check your Superuser app after the root is successful. You may need to allow it to update. If so, choose the normal method.
I hope this helps.

I have the blu studio 5.5 (D610a model), and was able to find a root and a touch based ported version of CWM that worked great for nandroid backups and flashing unsigned/custom gapps.zips. I have recently upgraded to this phone (5.0 HD LTE with the quoted firmware version).. Is there a custom recovery or anything that I can use to do a full backup in case I have any issues flashing ROMs that I'd like to test? I've got a buddy that I'd like to test a lollipop port for..

Excellent... I have the Blu Studio 5.0 HD LTE Y534Q 4G LTE.
The drop down options for "connect as" "media device", "mount usb card" etc, also has the option "advanced debug mode" and must be selected as well as debug option referred to in the program.. took less than 5 minutes to root..
Mega Thanks
Hi all! I am a recent convert to Android from WP so I have just purchased a blu studio 5.0 hd lte Y534Q which immediately was adviced to root. I understand I have to install the adb driver first on my desktop PC and then install and run Kingo but as a 1st time user I am kinda lost. Can you please help me with the following questions?
#1. The adb driver version should match my PC's OS, right? In my case Windows 7 x64.
#2. The Kingo is installed on the phone or on the PC therefore I d/l the windows or the android version?
#3. At the Kingo website there are 3 different products available for d/l. Which one should I select:
i) The android root for windows or ii) APK root for Android or iii) Kingo Superuser/SuperSU
Thank you very much!
Also, after a successful root do I have to take any special precautions? Do I avoid OTG updates, what about when (if) Lolipop become available for this phone?
Help with Blu y534q
I used the method in this thread to root my 5.0 HD LTE, so thank you!
Unfortunately, I did a factory reset and seem to have bricked it
Ita giving an error during the boot process, I dont have it in front of me at the moment but something about mount/sdcard0. I think it would be fine if I could find the stock firmware somewhere to flash, but I seem to have purchased the only Blu phone in the world that I can't find anything for lol.
Any ideas? Or someone have a stock rom I could try flashing?

Rooting LenovoTB-83040F1

Hi
I don't even know if this is the correct forum and I apologise if not.
I have a LenovoTB-8304F1 on android 7.0 and I am hoping to root it. I have tried kingroot and kingoroot with no success.
I am hoping for an idiots guide to rooting it.
I am familiar (just) with adb
Any help much appreciated
Thanks
I've installed adb and fastboot on my laptop and got them both to recognise the device.
abd reboot bootloader works fine and the tablet reboots to fastboot
However when I try fastboot oem unlock then I get an error... fastboot remote unknown command.
Any ideas on this?
Thanks
Anybody?
Have you enabled oem unlock in developer options ?
Yes, it is enabled
Did you ever find out how to root the tablet? I have one and am running it stock, with Nova Launcher to hide as much of the bloat as possible.
No, still no luck, sorry

Bootless root can be acquired with diplomatic's bootless root directions
I have verified that the chipset Mediatek 8163 is included in the supported chipsets in the diplomatic bootless root xda link.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/and...armv8-t3922213
What I was able to do.
- use bootless root instructions to root the tablet on startup. Thus, after every restart, system is temporarily rooted again.
- install apps which require root access such as root file explorer.
What I could not do.
- change CPU speed because there are no available custom kernels
- I could not find any custom recovery, custom roms etc.
So, basically you have the same andriod 7 OS, but with root access if you need to use any apps that require root.
Thanks, I'll take a look.
