I'm trying to root my Continuum, but I'm having a ridiculous amount of trouble.
I'm new to the android scene, and this is my first smartphone.
I was researching how to root it, and I decided I want to flash CMW on it.
I was using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057072 for help, as well as http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-continuum/
I downloaded Odin, PDA'd the tar.md5 recovery, flashed it, and then put the update-i400.zip on my sdcard. I restarted my phone in recovery mode, and I was trying to install the update-i400.zip, and it won't let me. I've done both the tar.md5 and adryn's test4.tar, as well as renaming the .zip just 'update'
I'm lost, and need some help, please. I would've posted this in the development section, but being a noob, it won't let me. If anyone can help, that'd just be great.
Are you rooted? You have to have root access before you can do that stuff I believe, I could be wrong though.
No, i'm attempting to root, but I'm so dang lost.
Here you go sir
http://youtu.be/J1MD7GX7Pyw
i hope this helps.
video is about how to use superoneclick
by the way i used superoneclick 1.7 just because it worked with me and its the only one i trust. but thats just me.
good luck
bye the way you can check if you are rooted using terminal emulator from the android market
yes super one click worked for me select universal mode then rage against the cage and then hit root it might hang for a minute but it should reboot then check to see if theres an app called super user. once you see that your rooted.
Use the files found in my last post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057072&page=4
Those are confirmed working.

I tried those, but to no avail. I'm gonna try SOC.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
I used SOC and after phone rebooted no SU app so did again (as per instr. on xda) rebooted and SU installed. Also for CwM Ive had best luck using odin3 1.3, adryns test4 tar, cwm 2.5 update zip, but I still had to use menu softkey to apply zip. Right now I can use rom manager app to boot into cwm, it says 2.5.1 but it has red text?
sent from my XDA phone - its more than a continuum
You can flash the Odin ROM without root. That will root and install the proper kernel for you... then use CWM to flash whatever ROM you want to use.
Or you can flash the complete odin package for 2.2 thats on the Continuum Development section.
Which will also make your device rooted

You don't want to rename the rom zip. You have to use the Cyan CWM update.zip, which is here: http://www.4shared.com/file/cLdwKNsU/update.html
I don't know if the other links posted are for the same file, but that's the one that works with Froyo.
You must have the cwm update.zip on your flash card. When you start up in recovery, you'll need to select apply update.zip. Use the volume rocker to highlight update.zip, and tap the menu soft-key to select. Once in CWM, the power button is select, and the back soft-key is back. You'll want to select the menu option to install zip from sd card, select zip to install, and browse to where you saved the rom file.
If all else fails, I'll be uploading a super-clean debinged ROM in the next few days. Once it's up, just flash via Odin as you did with adrynalyn's cwm recovery image.
Hello,
I plan to install a custom rom, and for that I followed all the tutorials on the web without success.
Using Acer recovery install, whatever the chosen recovery I get the error "recovery verified failed", and flashing the stock 4.03 recovery I have bugdroid lying.
Using AfterOta, it freezes at step 3/5 and Blackthund3r, it stuck stage two..
I have a bootloader and ICS 4.0.3 OTA maj.
If someone has an idea, I'd be grateful
Thanks !

Rooted?
Yes? use AcerRI to install any recovery.
Download thor200240/digetx CWM 1.7.3.zip here
Copy zip to SD card
Reboot to recover.
Install from zip file > Choose file from SD Card
Select the zip and install.
Reboot to recover if u see CWM 1.7.3 ur set.
Full Backup
Save your cpuid (In your CWM folder on your sd card inside the backup files u just made. Should be a text file named uid.txt or cpuid.txt.)
Copy any compatible rom onto your SD card
Wipe data, cache and dalvik
Flash your rom the same way u installed the .zip file.
Thank you for your response.
Yes, I'm rooted and I already tried Acer Recovery Install without success...
I get "recovery verified failed" (in red)...

Ok, I'm total noob but not complete idiot. Just want to get that out of the way
I have have the Galaxy S4 Google Edition running Android 4.3.
I unlocked the bootloader before the Android 4.3 update, but have never had root access. I've tried motochopper program, but keep getting failure errors and continued no root.
What I'd like to do is restore my device to stock and run it over again. I'm sure I did something wrong at somepoint.
Can someone please help me?
Thanks

1. Go here and download the CWM / TWRP / MobileODIN installable ZIP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Place the installable zip on your INTERNAL SD Card.
2. Get CWM:
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Go here and grab CWM 6.0.3.6 for the INTERNATIONAL I9505 - yes, it works on the I9505G
Put your phone in fastboot mode by turning off the phone completely. Hold down Vol-Up Vol-Down and power simultaneously.
Since you already seem to have adb, you probably have the fastboot executable.
From your computer's command line type "fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.6-jfltexx.img"
This will boot recovery - temporarily - it will not overwrite the recovery on your phone.
Choose install zip from sdcard. Navigate to the installable zip that you placed on you sdcard in a prior step.
Reboot. When CWM asks to fix "this may overwrite your recovery" SAY NO. Just let it reboot.
You will be rooted. Download and install busybox from the market to complete the process.

Worked like a charm! Only hiccup I had was it wouldn't let me access the file from the SD card, only internal memory.
2nd question is, IF i needed to restore everything to stock again at some point in the future, what steps would I need to take?

Since you have the stock recovery, all you need to do is unroot and you're done. Triangle Away works fine for the I9505G just in case you've bumped you flash counter. Ah yes, search the forums for busybox uninstaller. It's also a flashable zip.
Please hit the thanks button if this helped.

U can try follow this guide: HERE
ALCON,
I have tried repeatedly to install a custom recovery after rooting my phone and have been highly unsuccessful thus far.
I originally rooted my phone after the 12B OTA. I tried flashing the 2.6.3.2 version of TWRP using the Loki Flash tool via command prompt on my PC. However, it gave me an error at the end that stated the input file was not a Loki image. I was unable to reboot into any recovery at this time.
I used the LG flash tool to unroot and reinstall 10B, after this i was able to root again using IOroot and access the stock recovery.
This time i decided to download an already Loki patched 2.6.3.2 TWRP from their website and push it from my sdcard using the dd command in a terminal emulator window. It pushes fine and looks like it installed but i end up with a black screen when i reboot into recovery.
Whwt gives? Thank you for taking any time to help, ots greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
Crunch
are you following this guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670
Yes, that was one of many guides i was utilizing. I ended up getting it to work. It appears i was trying to flash 2.6.3.3, not 2.6.3.2, which from what I've read is intended for 4.4 -- long story short i was able to install 2.6.3.2 from my sdcard using terminal emulator.
Thanks for chiming in, mate!
Greetings,
First I'm sorry if this isn't the right thread for this, I'll gladly delete and change threads if need be.
Second, I just got an LG G2 (Verizon) today. It's great but I want more so I rooted it, confirmed that it's rooted. But that's all I can do. I can't install a recovery app on here to save my life. I tried downloading the VZW recovery img and pushing that with the loki_flash but I got two errors mainly.
Input file is not a valid loki image and Loki aboot does not match device. I'm trying to run either TWRP or CWM, anything really so I can flash a custom ROM on this bad boy.
If the image is not a valid loki image I'm assuming I don't have the right pair of files? (loki/recovery) and if the aboot image doesn't match the device I'm assuming that I don't have the right loki? Are these correct assumptions or am I making an ass out of just me???
My phone is rooted, ROM Manager says I have both TWRP AND CWM on my phone but if I try to boot into recovery via ROM Manager or adb I get a black screen and nothing more.
Does anyone have ANY insight at all into how I can go about the next step?

What build are you on (11A,12B? What recovery image are you using (ie, from what thread)?
Sent from chdhsheh fhhdud
TWRP
Follow the install instructions for TWRP 2.6.3.2. Then after you've confirmed you can boot the OS from the recovery, place the 2.6.3.3 on the root of your SD. Reboot into recovery and flash 2.6.3.3. Reboot into recovery again and you'll be good to go.
Version 2.6.3.2 won't flash 4.4 ROMs but 2.6.3.3 will flash 4.2 (I'm assuming), 4.3, and 4.4.
Download FreeGee app from the play store and install TWRP recovery from it. It was the only way I could install it on my LG G2.
So many

I followed many tutorials last night including this one.
(I am too new to post links in a message.) The link I was going to post was from howtorootmobiledotcom
I downloaded any version of TWRP I could, there were only 2, one img of each version and one zip. I used the loki from the zip that came with it as well but still no go.

I used RussGJohnson solution and it worked in a matter of seconds. Now I'm stuck though. I wiped everything and can boot into TWRP but I have no ability to sideload anything. I have all the latest LG drivers, even the lastest android sdk drivers, nothing is working. If I boot up normally the LG logo comes up and just sits there.
I can boot into recovery using the whole volume down + power button combo but then when I go to sideload my computer isn't seeing the device. I'm on a Win 8 machine using the stock cable. I've tried both USB 2 and 3 ports
It's done
Using RussGJohnson's suggestion worked great.
The issue I had with being unable to sideload a ROM wasn't resolved but I just used my Mac to do it instead. That worked just fine. Win8 couldn't recognize the device while in recovery. Go figure.
free gee very fast
Use Flashify u n00b.
