So I was wondering if I had to reflash back to stock or reflash the AMDL modem. If I wanted to Flash a rom that required my baseband and build to be on the UCUAMDL. I flashed the MF3 Modem (radio) and am running the newest Goldenrom. I have the S4 I3337 ATT version.
Since it appears that you're rooted and have a custom recovery, you do not have to flash back to mdl. You can just download a new rom and follow the ops directions.

I am rooted and use TWRP. So, even though the "about phone" says I am on a different baseband(MF3), it isn't? I just want to sure. Thanks.

You are on mf3 and will stay on that. But it should be compatible with the other roms. I think the reason they say to be on mdl is because mdb won't work. But mf3 is newer and you shouldn't have an issue
But check in the rom's forum to make sure and see if anyone else has flashed with mf3.
Ps, I see you can't post in that forum yet. Which rom are you thinking of using? I'll post the question for you. And, the mf3 rom you're currently using was obtained in the development forum? Do you remember which one?
I had a similar question to this as well... I'm running scoslers rooted mf3 rom. My baseband says mdl and my build says mf3...
Was thinking of flashing kangabean 4.3ge, but it says you must have mdl baseband and mdl build. Says to odin back to mdl before flashing it.
Any thoughts?

I was originally on Goldenrom and then I updated my modem. I had no issues except for one game which kept giving me problems. I was considering going to the MDOB or Kangabean versions to see if that would fix my issue.
Dandriod7, you should be ok, your baseband is mdl.
No1csme, your baseband is mf3 since you updated the modem. I'll post the question in the kangabean forum for you.

Thanks again. Appreciate it.
Just to add--I was on scrosler's mf3 rom with mdl radio (baseband). I then flashed the mf3 radio. Since then I have flashed Omega and Wicked while still on the mf3 radio. Generally the radio won't impact flashing different roms. But, as noted, always read OP--

Thanks for the post - I do have a question, and I apologize if this has already been answered. I got my S4 before the MF3 update. I basically locked it down, and have a custom recovery and it's rooted but stuck in MDL. This means that I never had the OTA upgrade and it never blew that weird fuse. If I odin these tar images onto my phone in its current state, is that safe? I see that there are now processes I can use to re-root my phone and then safestrap into a custom recovery. But since I never had the official MF3 update which blows the fuse permanently, will this not work? Anyone know? Maybe I should just wait for 4.3? Any help or direction is appreciated.
THANKS!

No your fine where you are just don't do an ota update and safestrap is only meant for mf3 I think u said that you have cwm....that's great don't get ride of it once you get rid of cwm and root and do the ota update then you can use safestrap but u don't need this...you don't need anything on this thread

no problem i hope other people find this useful
I flashed the 4.4 update and everything was working pretty good except that sprint zone was saying that I had a software update available, but it wouldn't let me update. So i tried to ODIN back to MK2 and it is failing every time. What do I have to do to go back to MK2 so that my phone can get the OTA update properly?
I ran into the same problem trying to downgrade after taking the ota. There is a problem with the updated bootloader preventing us from installing anything older. I was pretty much SOL until Unknownforce posted a flashable version of NAE here. I got back up and running by flashing philz recovery, then the NAE modem from here, then flashing the rom from recovery. Until a complete stock NAE tar is released, or someone figures out how to downgrade the bootloader, this is the only way I know how to resolve our situation.
As mentioned you can't go back to an earlier version of android. Example 4.3 to 4.2.2 and now 4.4.2 to 4.3

Thanks for this info. Makes sense, though I haven't read that anywhere else. That would have saved me hours as I've tried to flash the stock firmware.
Perhaps someone can help. I'm rooted on MJA update, 4.3 stock ROM, TWRP recovery. I've been trying to get to a clean MK2 as the OTA didn't work properly (broke wi-fi, etc.). I flashed back to MJA using Odin to regain wi fi.
I've read I will need to go back to stock recovery in order receive OTAs (like 4.4.2 and beyond). I have read, downloaded and read, and read. No luck.
How can I get to NAE? Will i need to get to MK2 first? Perhaps someone can clear up my confusion. I've flashed a good bit on my old Evo 4G, but am new to Odin, though I had no issues rooting or flashing hotspot tar file.
Thanks!
I fixed mine by flashing the MK2 update.zip in recovery. It didn't go back to MK2 but it booted up. When I looked on KIES it said the phone was MK2 but the other two parts were NAE.

In order to take on OTA or install an upgrade zip in recovery, you have to be on the latest version. In your case, MK2. Your easiest option would be to odin the MK2 tar and then either wait for the OTA or download the upgrade zip and install with recovery.

Thanks Cruise 350, for your suggestion. I have downloaded the MK2 zip thinking I might need to use it.
So, if I can get the MK2 tar to "take" in Odin, will it break root? I've tried so many steps in Odin where I read my actions would break root, but I haven't lost root any of the times. I don't mind losing root if I can grab the OTAs and re-root after.
Yes, if you odin mk2 you will lose root. You would lose for with the nae update also. Not to worry, it is very easy to reroot this phone.

Thanks, cruise350.
I Odin'd the MK2, and it didn't break root, left me with a broken wi fi though! I checked in the settings that I did indeed go to MK2. I Odin'd a file named MK2- ModemOnly.tar.md5.
Perhaps I'm not flashing the correct tar file. My MK2 download was around 1.36G zipped. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks. Until then, I'm back to MJA.
You odined the modem tar not the whole ROM. You can find the proper file that you need in the development section. It's by random45. Download it, and that should bring you to unrooted MK2.

If you are still having problems, what version of Odin are you using. While some people report success using the older odins with MK2 I found that using odin 3.09 never fails me with the newer software versions.

cruise350, I was successful! I used 1.85, though I have downloaded 3.07 and 3.09, and tried those along the way (with the wrong files).
Yeah, I tripped Knox but not concerned as I hope to keep this S4 for a long time. I have read about Triangle Away, and did not go there- yet. Should I?
I'll wait for the NAE OTA and seek to root it again after that. Will it still root using CF-Auto Root in Odin?

Wish I had more info, are you using twrp or cwm? If you're on 4.2.2 and your baseband shows mf3, did you flash a mf3 modem? To get back to stock I'd Odin the 4.2.2 firmware to start with. Hopefully that'll work.

So I've seen these threads before, but not for this build (since this Towelroot solution is so new). Here's what's going on.
Many of you have probably heard that NC1 is now rootable via a program called Towelroot (I'm a new user so XDA won't allow me to post a link, but it's the first result on Google). I am now successfully rooted, running 4.4.2 KitKat, build number KOT49H.I337UCUFNC1.
The problem is, I have no idea where to go from here. I'm told that since the bootloaders are still locked, I can't directly flash any custom roms with common recoveries. However, I have heard of Safestrap. So here are my questions:
What version of Safestrap should I install?
What can I do with Safestrap? In other words, can I run CM, Carbon, GPE and the like?
This may be asking a little much, but how do I go about running any of the above ROMs?
I feel really dumb asking all of these basic questions, but I'll probably end up feeling a lot more stupid if I brick my phone because I didn't ask the right questions. Thanks!
If you need to ask these questions you should not have rooted. Look in the general forum.

I freely admit that I'm new to this, so no reason to point that out. There are other reasons to root besides flashing custom ROMs, and I don't see any reason why I shouldn't have rooted. Every time I look through threads for my build, people just say that it can't be rooted (which is obviously no longer the case, since I'm successfully rooted). I just want to know what kind of capabilities I should look into, and as I understand it, the best way to do that and start tinkering is by using Safestrap.

As far as i know so far you can only install safestrap compatible roms ..Aosp such as cm and others I havent tried .. Safestrap gives you an option to create multiple rom slots ..Therefore you can run multiple roms without wiping one . If you have any other ?s feel free to PM me . I have only had this phone 2 weeks and it has been a learning process with 2 bricks .. So you can imagine that i have learned the do and dont dos . Mainly it happened when i got vague answers from others.. But youll will find everyone here is willing to help in one way or another.. Just dont post in the wrong thread ..LOL

This is so frustrating. I installed the .apk successfully, but tapping "Install Recovery" doesn't seem to work. I get a "Installation Complete" pop-up, but it still shows as uninstalled and I can't boot into SS. I haven't heard of anyone having this problem before.

Yes i understand ..I was about to throw my phone against the wall multiple times.. I can offer what has worked for me .. Downgrade to mk2. 4.3. You will get a semi functioning (No wifi or data) but thats ok .. Then you root it with kingo. And install safestrap 3.71 .. Then boot into recovery and flash Nb1_100%_Stock_Rooted.zip. Dont reboot system at that point reboot into download mode and flash the Modules. That will get you to a Stock rooted NB1 . Then there you can install 3.72 safetstrap.. this seems like a process which it is .. But it sounds like safestrap is giving you a problem with NC1.. I can confirm the method above works as i have done it multiple times.. Try to find a solution for your safestrap problem first. By the way . When you reboot your phone it should give you the option to go to recovery or system.. You dont need to choose reboot recovery.

Also i only see safestrap for Nb1 not Nc1 ..Seems like it should be compatible Though

These are links .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825 this is for Nb1_Stock_Rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663545 this is to downgrade
If all else fails then downgrade and get to stockrootednb1. You should have no issues using safestrap with NB1

Lmfao or you could get SELinux Mode Changer and set to permissive and not go through any of that and safestrap will install perfectly on 4.2.2 NC1

Can I? lol..No but im serious
Hey, OP. Did you get everything working? I was curious if you got ss 3.72 working on NC1. I need to reflash my ROM (Hyperdrive RLS16) and was thinking I would update from NB1 to NC1 during the process if it was possible. Thanks.

Works fine. Just finally rooted my S4 and TWRP backed up without having to wipe/reload/restore anything at all.

I got a Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 (from the US).
Is there any way to find a 4.4 stock ROM that is suitable with my device?
Thanks.

Actually I am really not familiar with all the terms (MK2, Safestrap recovery etc. Is MK2 the Baseband version? In mine it says I337UCUAMDL).
I have been trying to search and learn how to do this properly and what I exactly need, with no great success.
I did find this:
http://androidxda.net/install-android-4-4-2-kitkat-i337ucufnb1-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337/
Is it what I need (upgrading to KitKat)? And do I have to ROOT before (I haven't done it in the past, and actually don't know how).

You are on mdl firmware, do not upgrade your firmware!!! Use this on how to root and how to put a custom recovery on. You can use twrp or cwm custom recoveries http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42320391
