Hi everybody,
it's the hollidays, sun, free time, and swimming pool. unfortunately this last item seems to be not apreciated by my Milestone.
Indeed, some water from the swimming pool entered in my phone.
I think there s a problem now with my battery, cause I cant go on android OS.
everything is ok to go to boot or custom recovery, but ot block after this step.
I have an icon with a big ? in my battery (instead of the %age of charge)
Do you think my battery is dead ? (I managed to charge it with a direct wall charger)
does it explain that I can t start Android ? (is there a check of the battry status at the start or something like that)
Last thing there s a little rectangular sticker on the batttery and now , it's a little bit red (I don't remember it was like thatbefore, I suppose it was white and it's an oxidation indicator)
I don't know what to do... do i have to buy another one , or is there another solution (waiting 24 or 48 hours for example)
Thanks for your help

Red means water got in.
And yes, it could have messed up your battery's circuitry. I'd try borrowing a different battery, maybe you're lucky and nothing happened to the phone.

Thanks for the answer.
I triedwith another battery (new one)
in fact , I think theres a problem with the phone, cause I can switch on it, but my battery is not recognized... it 's written 1% battery (always) and I can't charge it plugged on the phone. it charges only with a direct charger...
I think I got a real problem on the phone
I tried to clean the contacts, but nothing changes.
Edit : the situation changed. I put my phone and the battery 24 hours in the rice (to dry it). and resinstall it entirely (flash sbf, CM 10.1)
Now the battery charges and works normally. But I can't find any cell network...
radio component out ? Do i have a way to check it to be sure ?
this helped me to get my signal back....it's months ago, but maybe usefull for you...

Thanks Lully, unfortunately, I follow the tips, but it doesn't work. I had already tried with MS2 Toolbox which has MS2 Tool baseband. (I think it's the english version of the apps in this post)
I m going to flash m phone a last time... But I m a bit scared , it seems hardware. The only thing I d like to know, it's how to be sure aboit that ! ;-S
Edit, seems for sure it's hardware 'cause with a 2.3.6 rom without any modifications, can't find any cell network. I m going to put my phone 1 week more in some rice !
Hello,
My Milestone 2 is back , fully operational (on CM 10.2 now ) ! I think this phone is indestructible !
I just wait for a few days, and when I start it again, the network was back.
Just some advices when someone puts some water on his phone :
- switch it off immediately
- clean it as you can with a towel or something like that
- put it in a box full of rices (battery out, and sd card and sim off) - the rice has the property to fix H2O moleculs , and so will dry the components.
- wait for 48 hours, and pray ! ^^
maybe you ll be lucky as me it it's not damaged too seriously.
so thats the way, to make a risecooker out of an us phone! congratulations!!!

Any other trick meanwhile,
Also does any one know why does this happen firstly.
Is it because the processor just goes to DEEP SLEEP below 50MHz or there is a problem with IPL or some other stuipid thing
Mine is a G4.and had last installed the PDAViet Touch Flo v5
Any one els who can advice me on this.
Any one had the same error earlier!!
Well you might as well try with other battery. If the old one is not charging it might be dead... Have you tried measuring it?

I just dont understand what is the problem has any one els faced such a problem
Rip-prophet??
I just had a word with a service guy where I had given it for repairs!!
He informed me the problem has got notihng to do with the software aspect.
He confirmed its a hardware [email protected]@
Can any one recommed me where can I get the phone repaired in India>>Mumbai..
I Think I will buy a CHEAP nokia now as I dont have enough money to spend again on a expensive phone like this one!!
I feel that the processor has gone in a deep sleep any ways to retrive it to 195Mhz...
Or is it the problem with the IPL/SPL
pls HELP and pray for My PROPHET for its LONG LIFE
Its been almost 15days now and still my neo is not working..
The repaires guy told me that may be something is gone wrong mainly because I had dropped the phone from my hand some 5~10days back before it went DEAD.
Can u guys tell me how manny of u have LOST their PDA phone s after it failed to repair..with the reason for the failure like short circuit or just like mine!!
Can any one help me with the service manual for prophet
I dont know how true is this ...
What if i m not able to get it repaired at all here in Mumbai>>INDIA..
Any one can help me with the board of neo or some solution in repairs..
I feel that the PDA manufacturers must atleast make the phones RIGID or shock proof just like nokia..so it can take some jerk!!and we dont have to LOOSE our valuable phones..
I m afraid but I dont think I shall ever buy a PDA phone again...mainly because its too much expensive for their limited LIFE SPAN just like in my case..
Hey Mate,
When I first got my prophet, it did the same thing, no lights, nothing. I had the battery replaced with an NON-OFFICIAL prophet battery (i.e, A cheap unbranded one), and it went - it's running perfectly now too with WM6

Hello,
My O2 XDA mini was power off automatically from last 2-3 days. Battery shows full charged. and nothing changed in last days.
So please let me know what the cause of that ?
Thanks
same problem, with my vpa compact, i think my battery is dead.
If not, what could it be?
I encountered a similar problem with my device. At first I thought it was a dead battery so I changed it but that didn't help.
Then I discovered that it only happens when I'm carrying the device so I investigated this further and it turned out that the little sensor thing that is supposed to be pushed by the battery cover was moving a bit making the device think that the battery cover is opened. A small piece of paper in the right place did the trick for me and now I have a spare battery for emergencies.
A dead/dying battery would also do the same things but it might be the same problem with you guys so you might want to check it.
Thanks my cell is working fine now. I have put the paper at censor.

the battery is dying
I need help. I messed up my Droid 2 restoring a backup and the battery died during SBF. So I did the Macgiver trick where you connect an old stripped usb wire to the battery so that the phone can be tricked into booting up and being flashed. Since then I've had a question mark in my battery icon. It wont read that battery or the battery that I've just purchased and I get the "Invalid Battery" message and the battery wont charge in the phone. Both batteries are official Motorola. I can't send the phone back as its not under warranty. So I have a few questions.
Is the some sort of workaround/ fix for this? Motorola put software on the Droid 2 since Froyo that reads whether or not a battery is official Motorola product. Can the battery software be hacked/ deleted so that I can use my battery as normal?
Wow, we have this same exact situation like a month ago, and since then my fiancee still uses her broken phone . We did the Macgyver trick also and we got the battery with the question mark. We even bought a new battery and it still shows it, tried reflashing with a fully charged battery and nothing changed. We also tried clearing battery stats none of it is working. If anyone knows anything about this problem please let us know. If you get an answer that cures your phone please please please let us know about it. I actually posted your question on Yahoo! Answers since it was the same exact problem that we had and if anyone answers we will post the reply on here.
Thanks a lot and good luck!
I've got the exact same problem. All I did was purchase one of those external chargers so that one battery is always charged. It is annoying, yes, but its not too bad. I'm also looking forward to see if there is a solution, but I doubt it. We probably all fried the contacts on the phone, but we'll see.

hey, yeah we did the same thing, we bought the second battery yesterday but i have a question, did you try flashing it again with the new battery in? I was wondering if it would work but i want to see if it will before clearing one more time my fiancee's cellphone since theres a fish game that may be lost if we do that.
Thanks a lot.
Brandon
I've SBF'd multiple times since then, and the question mark is still there. I don't think theres a way around it, unfortunately. Personally, it's not really a big deal, but it may be for you.
I just really hate it because I have no clue when my battery dies.
Never had the issue, but one thing comes to mind..why not root, install clockwork recovery and then clear the battery cache?

What exactly is this Macgiver trick? If you have a link, or some info on how it's I might be able to shed some light on this for you guys
The D2 battery is 3.7 volts; USB is 5. You probably blew out the A/D channel used to measure battery level.

Ah, I see so they're hooking up the USB straight to the phone...found it after a little searching...
But i'm curious, wouldn't that only happen if the wires ended up touching the other two terminals, and not just the outer (+) and (-) ones?
Will getting a new oem battery work?
No, replacing the battery will not work if you messed up when connecting the spliced USB charger + and - to the wrong terminals in the phone.
I have exactly same problem. I sliced the usb cable to revive my Droid X when the battery died during sbfing. Now my phone survived but Im stuck with question mark on battery icon. I flashed reflahsed and flashed again but no luck. wiped batt stat but no luck. Tried new OEM battery, no luck.. Put the batt in the freezer for 10min but no luck. I ran out of all the possible solution.
Now I just got the external stand along batt charger from ebay with 2 extra batts. I just carry extra battery since I dont know when the phone will go dead..
I would love to find out if someone can fix this issue. I still got 6 mo to go before I can upgrade.
I HAVE A SOLUTION (worked for me):
When doing the "Macgyver Hack", I jammed the USB wires into the battery. This pushed the metal spring terminals out. After that, the battery terminal springs don't all touch the connectors in the phone.
Take a needle, and carefully pull the battery's metal springs toward each other.
This worked for me.
Also, try this:
Remove battery and unplug phone. Plug phone in (without battery), then turn on (some phones will turn on without a battery). After the logo comes up, insert the battery. This made my phone recognize the battery and get into the OS.
Once the battery is recognized and you can boot to the OS, root the phone and get the battery calibration app (and use it).
I have a Motorola Defy, and used the Macgyver hack, then had the question mark problem for days before figuring this out.
jodaboda, Thank you a ton for that. I've been searching and trying out things to fix this and this is the closest I've come.
Although the Droid 2 doesn't boot up without a battery, I've had to the Macgyver Hack to get it to boot. The battery calibration app reads 100% charged when I am using the Macgyver Hack and is showing that the battery is charging. I'll tell you if it works once my battery is charged and I calibrate.
I wasn't able to get it to work. I think there is potential but my phone eventually died and it wasn't able to fix it. That app can measure the volts correctly tho, which means we should be able to get the battery working again somehow.

I don't have a nan back up from recovery but have read on another thread that you can also fix this by doing a restore of a back up through the recovery from a time before you have had the battery ? issue.. several people have also mentioned that it worked for them.. in my case I don't have a back up before this issue so I cannot confirm.
my phone died noooo
bumping in case anyone has a solution?
please. pretty please.
tried methods above, phone wont boot unless plugged in... i don't care i can't tell what % its at, but i do care it wont boot off battery power.
Tried 2 Ways with no Luck.
1. Power button + volume button down Long press less than a min. ?
2. Plug in for a day or more. ?

When you click power button to try switching it on, nothing happens? No vibration, nothing on screen?
Do you have someone with HD2 to try second battery? Maybe it is not bricked but only battery died.
Well to be honest Icdo not think your HD2 is bricked, it sort of sounds like you may have a dead battery. With MAGLDR you can only charge your HD2 while you have the ROM you are using booted up and running. Also try this just in case your battery os not dead but your power button is malfunctioning. Take the back cover off and press the small reset button on the back, it will be red, yellow, or green. Also make sure to have your charger connected to your HD2 in case the battery is low, it will start charging about half way through the boot up process. I will check back in on thos thread later today.
follow T-Macgnolia advice, if you can find another battery just to try if phone does boot up... after making sure that its not a battery problem ( i hope it does ) than could be that your phone is bricked and for now only jtag method could fix it.
I've never, ever heard about a really bricked HD2 unless a faulty hardware... In you case it might be the battery or a hardware issue.
HD2 is almost impossible to brick.

Unless you flash the wrong radio, that's basically it.
OP, make sure none of your pins bent when you did your battery pull. Sometimes one of the pins gets bent and it won't turn on, you have to make sure all 3 pins are touching the battery.
I think the answer to his question is between the lines :

Since Android doesn't/never brick devices and he hasn't flashed anything and his battery was working fine, Simply it's a bent pin
orangekid is correct.
Thanks for yours answers friends.
Pins are Ok.
I try to hard reset but nothing.
So when baterry is empty i cant charge it with MAGLDR i didnt know that.
Maybe is only batery empty.
I dont know no one with HD2 .
Is the same batery with Desire HD ?
Can i mesure voltage on batery i have multimetar at home.
Im having wall charger for my bluetooth headset with LED when charging its light RED,so i put HD2 withaout batery its green(no charging) and put batery in HD2 its light RED(charging).
P.S: Sorry for all this questions but im use to conect to net over HD2,
now im on dialup and this is very slow way for surfing and googling around.
Ok, So the phone is turned off. When you plug it in, don't you see the orange light even for 1 second?
Also, was the phone really hot when it freezed?
No there is no orange led turn on,phone is cold,i even try to charge batery direcly, voltage on batery is 3.75V.

Head down to your nearest T-Mobile store, most likely they have a battery or two you can test it with. If that ends up being the case, theres also chargers you can get pretty cheap that charge batteries stand-alone, along with a spot for a usb cord to charge a battery and phone at once. Got mine off ebay for 4$
Yeah, I can't see how you can brick your device without actually flashing something.
I, on the other hand, flashed a bunch of things like an idiot and I think I really may have bricked my poor HD2. It gets no power, and I've tried a second battery and that doesn't work either although it does turn on with external power.
Here's a link to my thread if anyone has any insight for me.
I meant the moment it froze, was the phone hot?
Ye the phone was hot i played drag racing on line with wi fi conected when it froze.
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
If it was really hot, then it could be a hardware failure.
Mine also got hot while running gps and now appears to be dead, have tried another battery but get no lights when pluggin in, no bent pins, is it the motherboard are they cheap/easy to fix?
Thanks, i thought i briked my phone , i leaft it to charge this night and when i wake up it won't turn on, i was very scared until i read here that could be a battery pin problem so i saw that i had the middlle pin to high, just lowered i little the pin and the phone booted up, thanks a lot.
But now i'm worried because here i read that if the phone get's to hot has changes that it will brick, what would be the best solution to not brick the phone: downclock or just pray and don't use android at full capacity?
Sorry for my english but i'm better at reading then writing
Bricking caused by HD2 beeing too hot ??? I doubt it...
Nevertheless it is not adviced to always overclock at full speed...
Bricking from an overheat is quite common, I've seen a good number come through my store with that issue.
For some reason alot people think the dashboard is a great place for their phone while driving around Phoenix o.0

I'll throw this suggestion out there. Most likely it's not the problem, but maybe you can try charging your phone in a different outlet.
Hi
A good friend of mine gave me his old HD2 that he's not using anymore(he got an iphone..).
I tried to turn it on - nothin happens.
I tried to charge the battery(both computer and wall-charger) - nothin happens (not even the LED).
I tried an extended Battery from another friend and turn it on - nothin happens.
what can it be?
It could be..
A tmous hd2 (red/green send and end) that's been bricked by wrong radio - test, does your PC ask for qualcomm drivers when you USB it?
A bent battery pin
They're the two testable known causes of said symptoms.
Does your battery work in friends phone?
1. its a tmous UK phone.. but in germany? lol and my computer does not even recognize it..
2. tried to bend it to all directions. nothin happens
of course the friends battery works. He used it before..

That's not what I asked... YOUR battery in HIS phone, (tho of course its a fairly moot point since his battery doesn't work in yours,,, just a double check to confirm your battery works)
Sorry, but sounds dead.
(Oh and its a regular hd2, only t mobile USA is different)
hmm external charger says 100%.. so it DOES charge.. or am i wrong?
It sounds like the circuit isn't completed..
open the back, take the battery out and look at the pins that connect the battery to the phone.. they should be sticking out about 2mm, make sure those connect with the battery and check to see if there is no corrosion on them (they should be shiny)
if that all looks okay the problem is inside the phone and you won't be able to fix it without opening it
they are all shiny i'll send it to some specialists and let them analyze it for 20 bucks..
