What to buy?
I was thinking 4 or Galaxy Nexus Nexus phones are best suited for me (at least) at a very good price.
Now I'm undecided.
Nexus 4 is $ 299 and you can expect, because I buy the phone at the end.
But I saw that it would be better than Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Nexus Super AMOLED with a 5 megapixel camera.
Now I'm undecided .. I do not know which screen is better, but I can certainly guide!
Thanks in advance
The screen on the Nexus 4 is better overall. The only thing the Galaxy Nexus screen is better in is black levels.
The Nexus 4's screen is has better white levels, sharpness, outdoor performance, colour accuracy among other things.
If you don't need/want LTE, then Nexus 4 has better hardware overall. Only thing Galaxy Nexus has over the Nexus 4 is the LTE. That's it.
The Galaxy Nexus has some advantages:
- removeable battery
- plastic back (more robust than glass)
- will get cheaper when N4 is out
- sophisticated hardware (N4 could have some problems for early adopers)
- lighter/ smaller
But nevertheless, I will switch from a GN to a N4. Main reason is the (hopefully) better camera.
And you can buy a 32Gb Galaxy Nexus...

I think it won't get that much cheaper. Have a look at the Nexus S, since 1 year the price stucks around 300 bucks here it'll be the same
Have a look at this video for the "better" camera. The quality seems good but the sound is like from the HTC Sensation a bit horrible

But the GN was much more expensive at release. And the price of the NS increased because of the release of ICS.
With the extemely low price of the N4 the prices of all smartphones will decrease IMO.
I only take pictures with my phone, so the sound irrelevant for me ..
I've had the galaxy nexus if the cameras enough for you get that.design wise.software speed..battery was OK I had an extended though. Its quality.
The trouble is the nexus 4 to buy is a superb deal

From what the reviewers have shown, there is nothing the Galaxy Nexus could best it on. Screen-wise, AMOLED sucks. Camera-wise, the Nexus 4 may not be amazing, but the Galaxy Nexus was terrible on anything but the sunniest of days. Design-wise, the Nexus 4 is objectively a more refined version of the Galaxy Nexus's design, so that wins out as well. And then of course, all the internals give it a thorough beating to its knees. There isn't much else to compare, really, since they both run the same OS.
Op.. if you decide to go with a GNex, PM me!

Wrong its from samsung and will remain expensive.
A nexus s or the galaxy s1 is still 150 to 200euro second hand... wtf....
So galaxy nexus will be like 400 euro, even if the nexus 4 will be 300.... samsung has always expensive phones and lg cheap ones...
Considering its not from Samsung, and LG isn't the best brand. Is it worth an upgrade from galaxy nexus to nexus 4? I purchased the gnex for 500 $ (dumb me) and nexus 4 is now selling for 299 $ only? WTF? What is the downside of it?
No microsd slot. Other than that it looks great.

If you want a faster CPU, better/bigger screen, more RAM, etc., then it is definitely worth an upgrade. Downside of it, is that it isn't available yet.
Considering it's not from Samsung you will not have squeaky plastic or inverted back menu buttons just to make it different, and no closed source software

Haha okay sorry if you were referring to me!
Got it!
Cheers!
Also, it looks more elegant than the Galaxy Nexus.
Heck, it looks so good I would lick it.
Really, the only downside of the Nexus 4 is the limited storage options.
Besides, Google Music solves the low storage option for music, and you can always use something like Dropbox for extra bits and pieces if need be, leaving the onboard storage for videos and whatnot. So for most users, it should be plenty.
Must say I can't wait to get mine. For the first time I have the option of rooting the stock ROM, job done! That said, will probably end up going with a custom ROM in order to have custom buttons and slightly improved performance and battery life.

People seem to always mistake, build quality and feel of the device. Samsung phones look and feel plasticy, but their build quality is very good, the Galaxy S2 is propably one of the most durable smartphones, after 1,5 years of usage without a case and countless drops, it's still n pretty good condition, unlike for example the HTC phones of some of my friends wich look like s hit (volume button missing etc.)
The reason that im still glad the samsung isn't the manufacturer of the new nexus is the fact that I'm sick of power hungry, oversaturated, screenburning Amoled.

What are you talking about?
The only true weaknesses of this phone are the lack of LTE and the low storage options. But if you are on t-mobile and use more cloud based storage or just not too much of your internal memory then it's a great phone.
The Nexus 4 has one of the best processors on the market (Qualcomm SnapDragon S4 Pro), 2 GB of ram (galaxy nexus has 1GB) and an improved camera over the galaxy nexus. The internal battery is 2100 mAh which is the same size as the extended battery for the galaxy nexus or 300 mAh more than the 1800 mAh standard battery of the galaxy nexus. Also the battery on the Nexus 4 is "serviceable" because you can replace it by removing the screws on the bottom of the phone. It's obviously not something you can do on the fly, but it is something you can do yourself. The battery life on this phone in theory should be fantastic compared to the galaxy nexus because not only does it have a larger battery and a more efficient (and faster) CPU, but it doesn't have LTE which means that is one less radio to be killing the battery. I've heard some people say that the battery life has been poor but I read a review just yesterday and the reviewer said you might be able to make it 2 days with minimal use. Also keep in mind that this is on "beta" software, It is not the final version of Android 4.2 which will be released on the phone starting Tuesday and I've heard they plan to send an OTA to the existing phones on Sunday.
I plan on buying the phone. probably not on Tuesday, with some restraint I will make it a few months before I buy it and look at real user reviews.

Although I'm currently awaiting a replacement phone as the touch screen went dead on mine... I suspect static buildup then an arc from my leg to the screen... So I might suggest setting the phone down when you know you will be around static buildup, as I now will.

The screen is amazing once you calibrate it. It's easily as good as the HOX and iPhone 5 and probably as good as the Z10 (even with the lower PPI). Overall this phone is brilliant taking everything into account, couldn't have asked for more.

Yeah but in that case it's almost objective that the N4 is superior in pretty much every way. There's definitely a case to be made for the S3 but in my opinion unless you care about the storage or camera the N4 is the superior choice.

Yesterday, I saw the Galaxy Note II, Galaxy SIII and the Galaxy SIV.
The performance was great, but I have a Nexus 4 for 5 months now, and I would, even I know the features of all the new phones like the HTC One and so on, go and buy this phone again, because it's so great.
This phone is stock android, and therefore nearly all apps and tweaks and mods are working on that.
Most applications are made for the Nexus 4, because it's the model for all other smartphones, so said google.
It has always the newest software and so great ROMs, like the PACman Rom e.g.
When I first saw the Xperia Z, I found, that this device has a really bad performance and really bad colors for a newer device and for a such praised phone, in my opinion.
At least the Galaxy Devices have always these AMOLED displays, and I don't understand, why so much people like these, because I saw them in the Telekom shop and there is always text like "Turn on the LTE" branded in the screens.
If I were you, I would go and buy a Nexus 4
Swyped from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
If you are planning to keep your new phone for good, than it should be a Nexus, cause it will get all the recent updates and has a great development thread here on XDA too.
Nexus 4.
GS3 is a great device... But my friends always complain that it lags after a while... Which is a product of TW. So go with the N4, I love mine.
My friend just bought an S3, and its a great phone. But my other friend complained that his S3 started lagging / not working so fluidly in games, etc. He also mentioned that he had almost filled his storage with games. Whereas on my Nexus 4, I have only about 2.3 GB of remaining space (I play games), YET it works as though there is nothing on it. Its like the day I bought it. The S3 lag is probably because of TouchWiz. Although I've also seen many S3's with full storage but very fluid and absolutely no lags.
My opinion: If you're a camera guy, or a storage person, go for the S3.
If you're not any of the above, Nexus 4.
Good Luck!
Although there are ROMs for the GS3 now, theres no guarantee that development will continue popularly for newer android versions, since the GS3 has the exynos chip. Neuxs 4 will always have devs. Thats the main reason i bought the N4 over the GS3.
The only things Galaxy S3 scores over Nexus 4 is Camera, removable battery and expandable storage.
Nexus 4 is ahead in the rest. Snapdragon S4 in nexus is more closer to Snapdragon 600 in Galaxy S4 than the processor in galaxy s3.
Nexus 4 will also get timely software updates for atleast 2 more years. The S3 will get at max next 2 android updates and those to 4-8 months after its release.

Can you think of anything the octa core processor can run that the quad core can't? How much is a cell phone camera worth to you? Are you looking to take professional grade photos with a phone? Which device has a better chance of running stock android? I would go with the nexus.

I would go for the Nexus. The Octa in the S4 can only run 4 cores at a time, so it isn't a true octa core processor, its a BIG.little chip. If you have the chance to get an HTC One, then I would go for that for the build quality

It depends on how much you value the camera and storage of the GS4 but overall I'd say no, the GS4 isn't worth $243 more.
Thank you guys. After read all the answers I noticed that everyone says that s4 do not worth the additional price. I will sell my gnex and buy a nexus 4. When I put all the pros and cons of both phones for my needing n4 is the winner. My opinion for who is in the same dillema:
S4 pros-
Camera
Raw power
Bigger screen
S4 cons-
More expensive
Touchwiz and Samsung bloat.
Bad big.little management (cluster migration)
Only 9gb for the user in 16gb model.
N4 pros-
Cheaper
Stock android
Lots of Roms that I am already used in gnex like PA.
Can run any game that s4 runs.
N4 Cons-
Smaller screen
Touch not so good as gnex
Camera not so good as s4 but better than gnex, so for me is enough.
So the cons on the n4 will not ruin my experience, is like a PC upgrade I will just upgrade the hardware and run the same software that I used to. Thank you guys to help me decide and save some money.

I would advise you to wait for snapdragon800. The nexus 4 for 500$ is expensive.
Wait for the upgraded galaxy S4 or a new nexus that should have the snapdragon800 SoC.
Also, check the rumored sony honami that is said to be announced in a few days, snapdragon800, 20mpx camera with 4k video recording.
So if you could wait a little it will be a big upgrade for you from a galaxy nexus, bigger than to either n4 or s4.

Still doesn't answer either question. It may well blow every SoC out of the water but that just means it's overkill and the power will never really be used.

s800 SoC supports 3GB of RAM , 4k video recording, 2k displays, and additional ports... oh, and a new stronger adreno 330 gpu.
in no way i find it overkill if you use your hardware for more than calls/sms, especially when implemented in tablets. Furthermore, as ubuntu for android (not ubuntu touch) should be coming out by the end of the year, i'm pretty sure the s800 should provide better performance in that field.

Well I haven't found a single HD game that can lag the N4 yet and I don't see any use whatsoever of having the S800 over the N4. Maybe I'll be proved wrong in the future but right now there's no point to waiting for the S800.

Agreed!

i think sd800 is like buying a i7 3770k and a gtx titan when just an i5 3570k and a 660ti can run any game or app.
i will buy today n4, too bad the black color sold out i will take the white one. thank you guys.

You're comparing a SoC to a phone as a whole?
If you take a wider look, running a 1080p display, a bigger camera sensor, not to mention the low level software tweaking and optimizations like project butter and other under the hood ones, etc.. requires a lot of processing power.
And with your logic, we don't need 1080p displays, or camera hardware similar to that in p&s ones, it's all overkill.
Did you know that the n4 gives a higher fps result when playing games than an s4 ? It just tells you that the s600 is not capable of pushing all those pixels and maintaining the same fluidity as it would on 720p.
Snapdragon800 is in no way an overkill to mobile devices, it's just a result of the evolution of technology. Other hardware parts are also evolving.
And p.s. s800 supports usb 3.0 , but why would anyone want faster data transfer rates, it's all overkill !

Definitely the N4, even though S4 has a system dump already for the 4.3, Nexus devices will have it eventually.

Actually yes 1080p displays are definitely overkill IMO. I know that the N4 gets better FPS than the GS4 but that's NOT the same as saying the GS4 gets low FPS. Games are more than perfectly playable at the 40-60 FPS that the GS4 manages on ultra high settings on Real Racing 3. As you said though it's not all about the SoC and it's fairly clear that the GS4's software is poorly optimised seeing as it lags even when scrolling through the home screen. If I'm not mistaken the Adreno 320 is supposed to be capable of handling multiple 1080p displays at once.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of mobile technology advancing, but I wouldn't recommend a more expensive device over such a small increase in performance.

ok, i think i get your point now. i respect your opinion, but i don't agree with it (and that's cool).
1080p is actually quite beautiful when you have a big display (5") and no on screen buttons eating up space. watching a youtube video on full HD is really nice, the sharpness and color distribution also (noticeable when comparing both pentile on s3 and s4).
Anyways, all i wanted to say in my first post is that it's July already, and that a new generation of SoC is coming, and it's gonna be a pretty big upgrade. furthermore, we're all expecting a new nexus in Q4 right? i'm pretty sure we're gonna see an s800 in there, and hopefully Google will keep it's pricing strategy. i think a 3 months wait (till Oct/Nov) is worth it, i'm pretty sure OP's galaxy nexus could live that long, it's not that he has a low end device.
just to add one more thought, i'm aware that my nexus 4 will be more than capable to run ubuntu for android for example, but i'm pretty sure a nexus with an s800 would be even more capable. Or maybe i'm the only one getting excited about turning my phone into a dockable remote PC
