Verizion Data Widget - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way I can get the verizion data widget in any custom roms? It's the only reason why I wont flash any, I need the widget.

You can download the My Verizon app from Google Play, but it may not work on non stock based ROMs like Cyanogenmod.
Here is a 3rd party app that lets you login to your Verizon account and then has its own widgets that look the same as Verizons.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hoeksoft.minute.widget.verizon

if all you are looking for is something to tell u how much data u have used there are way better aps and they tell you in pretty much real time unlike the verizon app which u need to hit the refresh button

I can confirm that the My Verizon app works on Carbon

It is a widget . Create one on Xperia launcher, for example, by a long press on any homepage to get to customize/widgets.
Once myverizon is installed.

works for me - but I think VZW doesn't allow it to automatically update (you have to keep pressing the refresh button) due to the change in pricing structure with the share everything plan (even if you don't have that plan).
what helps for me is getting the text/e-mail alerts when my data reaches a certain threshold (50%, 75%, 90%).
also, your phone can track that in the settings.

I forgot about the data tracking in the settings! Thanks, I'll just set a limit where my data will turn off when I use a certain amount. Thanks for the help.

3G data log?

Just got the Hero - love it. Is there any way to track the 3G activity to make sure I don't go over my monthly limit? Can't find anything in settings but are there any market apps that would do the trick?
thanks
i am sure phonalyzr would do it, among logging many other things such as calls, data usage, power usage etc. it seems to be pretty popular from what i have heard.
Thanks. I can't find that in the market which is either because I am from Ireland (no market support here) or have a sim free phone.
Any other (non copy protected) apps?
thanks.

3G watchdog
net counter
there's bound to be others.
just search the market for 3g, counter or monitor.
something should show up.
you should be able to see the free apps, but if there is no Google Checkout launched in Ireland, then no, paid apps will not appear. nothing to do with being SIM free, cos i've seen paid apps on SIM free phones here in England.
I wonder.... if they don't show up in Eire, would they show up in the North on the UK networks??? maybe that's for another thread!
netsentry, you can set a limit and everything
I installed netcounter and netsentry but netsentry gets my vote. perect.
thanks for help and recommendations.

I just wanted to drop a quick battery tip in here.

This might not be a good tip if you're a "power user" but for normal folks it adds up to quite a bit of battery savings. It's basically something that Ultimate Juice does, but you can do it manually in about 1 second. I use Extended Controls for this little trick. I install a widget that allows you to enable/disable mobile data. When you choose the mobile data button it asks you what you want the function of the widget to be. Choose the one that actually turns off your mobile data. I use this every day and it's been a HUGE help to me. You can still receive calls and texts, but not G-Talk, internet, emails, etc. I've tried disabling "enable always on mobile data" which turns off mobile data when your phone "sleeps" but it doesnt give me the same results. I also add the "sync" button to my widget, that way I can enable data, manually sync then disable data pretty quickly. Like I said, it's not gonna be a big help for people who want to stay synced 100% of the time. But I've left my phone in my car while I was at work and when I came out it literally had not dropped even 1% And it was in there for over 8 hours. Anyways, I just wanted to try to contribute something back since this forum has been a gigantic help to me with all of my phone escapades lol.
Yep, I do the same. Huge difference to turn off 3G data when not using it.
Does't stop SMS or phone calls.
Good tip for those who do not need gmail/gvoice notifications.
you dont need to download anything, its in the shut down menu and htc has a widget for it if you run sense, not sure if android has a default widget or not but if you are running sense, go to add widget settings mobile network so if disabling 3g is all you need/want, its easier to go that route

[Q] Any way to disable data?

Hi guys, I just got a Fascinate, and I was wondering if there's any way to disable EVDO data? I'm trying to see if I can save a little money by using the $15 150MB data plan and just using wifi all the time, but I can't find any options or apps to disable data for CDMA. I'm fine with rooting or installing custom ROMs if that's what it takes. Thanks!

For the Fascinate, the code is *#4636#1111#
You need to have the hidden menus enabled of course...
Juice Defender will do it, there's a toggle widget too

I pay for unlimited wifi hotspot - where can I get a short cut from??

How annoying verizon.
On every other phone I've had there's always been an easy way to put a shortcut on the main screen to the hotspot on/off (sometimes there's even a widget for it).
I have a government plan with unlimited data and pay 10 bucks a month for the tethering, yet I cant seem to figure out how to put a widget or even a shortcut on the homescreen for this.. anyone have an idea? Hopefully I'm just missing something real easy.

I do not see a way to put a WiFi hotspot button on the home screen. I have the settings icon right on mine, and can quickly enable it that way. There may be a 3rd party 'filler' app for this but I haven't looked.
I think Verizon offers unlimited wifi hotspot to grandfathered users!

Guadalupeohara, that is not true. I am using FoxFi to bypass that, and WiFi/Tether for free for grandfathered unlimited is not true. As the OP stated it's through his work that he has unlimited, and he pays an additional $10/month to be able to WiFi/Tether..
Which OP, if you wanted, you could probably do a one time payment of $7.95 and get FoxFi with a key and never have to pay the $10/month.

You cannot extend it with other functions. You can, however, purchase power toggle widgets/apps in the market - I use 'Extended Controls', which is very stable and customizable. If you don't want to spend any money then you can enable/disable the functionality by going to 'Settings' > 'Wireless & network settings > 'Tethering & portable hotspot and first setup your hotspot then turn it on/off by ticking the box next to 'Portable WiFi hotspot.

This is exactly what the OP is trying to avoid having to do. You really shouldn't have to go through that many steps just to turn it on and off. As someone above pointed out, extended controls or another 3rd party, is probably your best bet until we get root.

I find it ridiculous that I pay extra to have the hotspot access and I can't have a switch (or even a short cut) on the home screen without downloading a third party app. Can't wait to root this thing!
I will grab extended controls, thanks for the heads up everyone.

Looking for a app to turn off data when screen off

Hi,
I used to use an app for that on my S6 but seems it does not work on my S8 Oreo.
If someone has an idea...
Thanks !
Use data saver?
If you want data off with the screen off you will receive no internet app notifications with the built in data saver.
I have to open the apps manually to see updates.
You can also allow certain apps to bypass the data saver.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.
If your data saver was on it'd stop any processes even system from connecting to data services in the background.
If it didn't that would be shady.
I have noticed however going from AOSP Lineage 14.1 to S EX 8.0.0 it absolutely munches my data...
Until I rooted and removed all bloatware and some system apps that were just questionable...
One day the AOSP lords will come together and make the S8/+ owners cream themselves with that stock android goodness.
One day...
When all our screens have permanent burn-ins??
