HI,
I was not sure whether to put it in Apps thread of Q & A, but since it was a question, so I thought this would be the appropriate thread.
Anyway I hv seen in some reviews that reviewer uses some kind of frame rates check app which shows frame rates at the top of display, can anyone tl me what app is that?

No, still wrong. You've got 720p30 on stock.

I never said it wasn't present, I was merely suggesting that rooting the g2 is most deff the way to go. Please read more carefully next time.

This thread is specifically about 720p30, not roms or rooting. You specified in your above post "root that *****, rom that 720p it up" which is implying that the only way to get 720p was to root and install a custom rom. Regardless of what you meant, that's what came across.
Please... write more carefully in the future?

Yeah recording a video at 720p is already there but it's not at a steady 30fps as advertised - the only phone I've seen that can record 720p at a constant 30fps is the iPhone 4 (picture/video quality is superb).
Try recording a 720p video at night and tell me how it looks - yeah it looks real bad and choppy.
omg some of the things i read in here is just ridiculous...
the G2 comes with 720p regardless of root or not, but if you ever done a little bit of recoding in low lights you will see it is not 30 FPS it is more like 10fps

It's called shutter speed. If the phone didn't slow down the shutter speed, you wouldn't be able to see anything.

Yea the camcorder looks like ****..My blackberry 8900 would record better videos. I wish the cam would record sweet with no lag. Only thing that sucks on the G2..So can anyone get this to someone who would actually be able to improve it??

Shutter speed..... in video...? Seriously are you kidding? Do you have any idea what a shutter is or how it works?
Has anyone noticed an improvement in video recording frame rate and stability while overclocked?

I know there's no shutter speed in video. I just can't remember the proper term for it in video...
Anyway, here's what a shutter is: its kinda like a really fast gate inside of still cameras that opens and closes very fast to control the amount of light that actually makes it to the image sensor (or film.) Faster shutter speed = less light and less blur possible, while slower shutter speed = more light but more blur is possible. So yes, I do know what a shutter is.

Your cmos sensor can only take in as much light as is allowed by the timing of the frame rate and integration time per sample.
There would be only two reasons that I can think of for why the video frame rate drop in low light. 1st would be it is going to a longer integration time to allow the cmos to gather more light per sample. Or 2nd is that the camera software is applying an artificial and likely CPU intensive technique similar to the pseudo color night vision modes on older camcorders where it tries to enhance the picture and estimate the details it is missing.

I'd vote for the first one, as there's no noticible increse in CPU usage as the light level drops.

Can nexus record videos at 60 fps 720p?
its camera seems to support it, can we enable it via software (kernel or apps)?
**BUMP**
Been wondering the same thing.
There are a few apps that do it but they seem to have very bad ratings. I would also love to see this happen. Pretty sure one of the chinese S4 pro phones could do 120 frames with WVGA resolution so hardware is definitely capable.
**BUMP**
Please, anyone with the device, can you check?
Off topic noob question - Can you really see a difference between 30 vs 60 fps?

I can't tell if you're trolling. I thought the human eye can't see above 29.6 fps or something like that.
I would guess the plan would be to slow the video down. My old LG Viewty recorded 60 fps for slow motion purposes etc.

hmm, that made me wonder...
Wikipedia:
The human eye and its brain interface, the human visual system, can process 10 to 12 separate images per second, perceiving them individually, but the threshold of perception is more complex, with different stimuli having different thresholds: the average shortest noticeable dark period, such as the flicker of a cathode ray tube monitor or fluorescent lamp, is 16 milliseconds, while single-millisecond visual stimulus may have a perceived duration between 100ms and 400ms due to persistence of vision in the visual cortex. This may cause images perceived in this duration to appear as one stimulus, such as a 10ms green flash of light immediately followed by a 10ms red flash of light perceived as a single yellow flash of light. Persistence of vision may also create an illusion of continuity, allowing a sequence of still images to give the impression of motion. Early silent films had a frame rate from 14 to 24 FPS which was enough for the sense of motion, but it was perceived as jerky motion. By using projectors with dual- and triple-blade shutters the rate was multiplied two or three times as seen by the audience. Thomas Edison said that 46 frames per second was the minimum: "anything less will strain the eye." In the mid- to late-1920s, the frame rate for silent films increased to between 20 and 26 FPS.
And don't forget most displays are locked on 40Hz-100Hz,..

Hello,
I have been reading around, and I found a thread in which people have been kernel modding and achieving higher quality and more FPS, but all the download links are broken.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159076
They seem to report success, but the thread closes inactively without any updates or links.
The goal is essentially getting 60FPS on 720P video, much like what the iPhone 4S provides.
I am wondering if anyone here has any information about this that they can provide? Is anyone aware of any mod or kernel mod that can provide 60FPS video recording in any mode for the Nexus 4? Surely the hardware is capable.
You do know that unless you use 3d recording anything more that 24 is an over kill, 29~30 to look smoother
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Of course I know that, but that only applies for general video recordings. I want 60FPS for a very specific use, to slow down the video 2.5x (to 24fps) while still being fluid for slow-motion recordings.
Such a useless response.

Why there is always some idiot saying that there is no point of using 60fps ?
Like,.. always,... some F conspiracy or what
Can you upload sample video?

hmm read through the thread that you had posted a link to, i believe that was a real screen shot at the end, it is possible tto film 720p60fps i know because my htc rezound that was released in november 2011 had the ability to film slomo video at [email protected] that phone was no where near as pwerfull as the nexus 4, so i know n4 can do it i would love to see the abilty unlocked in either a mod or an app
I also believe the screenshot was real. But file metadata is one thing and real video measurement is the other.
I think it is all what he achieved, and the rest is just trolling people.

Yes I'm good for $5 maybe we can get some more people in on this. I'd like to see it work for both n4 and n5, but I'd settle for the n4, I think the n5 could do 120fps at 720p easy
hi all
i have just activate 120hz refresh rate on hidden note9 menu on stock rom 0neui 2.1
but we need activate it on app setting like my sharp aquos 120hz screen per app but this option note available on note9
can you add or unlock advanced setting high speed refresh rate on app setting menu ? or add this option on custom rom ?
thank you
sorry for my english

Download Activity Launcher from Google Play and enter the word "High" in it.
Same discussion on Note 10+ forum... This is an option that does not apply to anything but the s20 series of phones. Note 9/10/10+ don't support 120hz refresh rate, hence it is not in the settings but hidden in the firmware...
Just a lazy bit of coding by Samsung who decided it was easier to hide it than to remove it from phones firmware that don't support this refresh rate.
you think is not possible to enable this option with custom rom because im sur this screen support 120hz refresh rate at full hd+ resolution my old aquos phone 5 years lcd screen can support it at full HD resolution i just need to enter infos app exemple nova launcher and check case high speed lcd and apply i think we need add this option on custom rom ty
The hardware doesn't support it. You might get a few extra hertz but you won't see 120hz refresh rate... If you do then you are experiencing the placebo affect...
It's not possible to get 120hz refresh rate on a 60hz screen unless the screen actually supports 120hz refresh rate. Seems a stupid idea to me to include a higher refresh rate screen (with the additional cost) then NOT capitalize on it as a feature to buy this phone over the competitors, especially as people wanted this...
I tested with a camcorder to see the refresh rate and still the same 60HZ.

Is it possible? Yes, provided the right expertise and knowledge. Is it easy? No. The screen on your device is designed to run at 60Hz, and may not accept higher refresh rates; trying to force a higher refresh rate will often result in artifacts and other bugs.
