Given the fact that Cyanogen ROMs are always based off ASOP builds, I highly doubt TouchWiz will be present for the Galaxy S Cyanogen ROM. Their alpha ROMs for the EVO 4G and Incredible doesn't have Sense UI, so I'm sure it'll be no different for the Galaxy S phones.
Ok maybe I should have said that we have the source but its missing parts. Blah blah . And even though cyan is based off the aosp they can bake anything in they want including some of the twiz stuff but this still isn't development so .........

Cyanogen has publicly expressed distaste for the non-vanilla Android roms. I'm sure anything that comes out with his name on it will be without Touchwiz/Sense/Motoblur.
I HIGHLY doubt CM 6 will ever have anything touchwiz based, it goes against the idea behind the project.
I'm not a huge fan of twiz either just saying he could do anything he wants

I actually like certain aspects of TouchWiz, mainly the ease of access to BT, WiFi, etc from the notification bar, but CM releases have always stayed away from any sort of manufacturer-developed modifications to Android like Sense, TouchWIz, Blur, etc. There are always ported builds using those UI's available and Im sure they will be eventually for the vibrant, but first we need a stock AOSP-based build.
The settings in the notification bar are awesome . If cm did use anything I hope its that.

Cyanogen & Crew do like borrowing bits and pieces, so the setting in the notification bar could wind up on a release eventually. But TW will most certainly be out. Thankfully.

i hope we get settings in the notification bar at least, especially the slide to adjust brightness, it's pure genius!
CM will not include TouchWiz because it is not open source software. The only part that Samsung has open sourced is the kernel, not any part of Android. They've provided the bits to allow other builds of Android to run on their phones (mostly), but not their version of Android.
Anyone got any ideas for roms? Not ics.

Sense 3.5
Bliss base
Runny nav bar
No bloat
Runs perfect without swap
Or maybe u wanna port Android evolution or Runnymede desire rom by sebastian15? The latter is a great rom
Yeah, the DZ community has a love/hate relationship with 3.5 sense rom, so a one running smoothly without swap, no bloat, nicely themed (easy on the eyes ), is a way to go.
There are alot of sense 3.5 roms for the DZ. I've tried them all (literally), so far the Bliss sense and the NRG 3.5 sense roms are good, other I had trouble with (laggy, slow, crashes...).
MIUI, seen one seen them all, although popular you will be just one in a bucket of full pretty good and functional MIUI roms.
Stock g2 or AOSP also, there are alot of them for the DZ, there has to be yet an AOSP that can beat the awesome CM 7 rom.
If you make it really try hard to stand out, cause it will be burred soon under the mentioned ones.
You could try porting a weird obscure ROM that nobody has really seen much of. I remember using a ROM by SiulMagic called LiquidM_Villain, its basically an Acer modified version of Froyo. I used it for a few weeks before leaving because I missed Gingerbread, but it was quite a neat ROM. Theres a Gingerbread version around now that could be ported? Or maybe theres another modified version of Android that nobody really sees much of?

Honeycomb is a bad idea when we have ICS being ported at the moment (which if you check the dev page, there's a thread with an almost complete port) since honeycomb was designed purely for tablets and is not meant for phones. A LOT of quite possibly pointless work would have to go in it.
take any existing ROM - figure out how to make it have even better reception in weak signal areas - and you will be a STAR on XDA!!
and start with the ROM that is the fastest, leanest, and has the best battery life and most free RAM of any ROM.........yes I am talking about G-Lite 2.0.1
My idea is the latest stock rom with nice tweaks and addons but that's just an idea... And maybe nobody likes it

I just created this thread to unify people asking/requesting sense ports from other devices (preferably desire) to N1, maybe we can get more roms and more interested developers to port roms. Of course, anyone can help porting or make your own functional port and post in developers forum.
I'll try to work with some desire roms in the next weekend, so we can just unify efforts here.

Anyone can help with an intermediate effort, using this howto and dbasabe kernel in forums (maybe using the kernel in this rom).

Not exactly. For android devices, the main performance achievement is maded by kernel, such as linux distributions, the main performance is achieved (basically) optimizing glibc and kernel. And we have a good optimized kernel by dbasabe, but as we already know, not all sense ports like this custom kernels.

I believe it was said that jb code is very similar to ics. Cm9 is very close for us. A stable cm9 to cm10 would probably be faster than cm10 built from scratch. Just a guess though, I'm not a dev.

Joke? don't underestimate the developers on THIS phone, of all phones ) I'm gonna definatelly keep an eye on these forums. if nothing else i expect someone starting a WIP thread, an AOSP built rom, most likely not fully functional ofcourse, but compiled enough to boot up, just to give us a taste while development begins in earnest
This is just what was needed to jump-start development for the SIII
I'm curious, with Verizon's S3 flashing abilities currently being limited to roms stripped of kernels, how will this affect a jellybean rom? Is the ics kernel the same as the jb kernel?
Just rambling here, no disrespect intended and none meant at all just want to learn as much as possible....ICS source has been available the whole time, why wouldn't we have seen a CM9 build if it were that simple (as to have source)? Just cause source for 4.1 is out, it is going to make it that much easier to build an AOSP rom now? Again just trying to learn I know people are pretty snappy at questions like these, lol.

Reason people are saying that we could see CM10 soon is because the CM team think the code should be able to merge right into what they have with CM9, and not break that many things. With CM7 to CM9, they had to basically do everything from the ground up again because ICS was such a huge update over GB. Now JB isn't that big of an upgrade over ICS, in a way it is, but in a way it isn't. Sorry if that sounds confusing.

That's easy to understand, and not what I'm asking... what you are saying is its easy to incorporate 4.1 to 4.0, just like it was easy to go to 2.2 to 2.3... I'm asking why is everyone so excited to get 4.1 AOSP, when we don't even have 4.0 AOSP?

I am no dev, but heres how i understand it works;
we start with an announcement of an OS, this is done generally at Google I/O or a Nexus Event, in this case was Google I/O.
On the announcement day, devs receive the SDK; Software Development Kit.
This is released to allow the devs to begin making apps that match and run on the new OS. However, aspiring rom devs then begin to build a rom off the released SDK, generally called an sdk port.
These tend to be made simply to give us an idea of how the system would work and function, and generally might boot up and have a couple working things, but major things tend not to function because the SDK is not made for that.
Then comes the Source code, this is the real deal, it is full code of the system, code that can then be compiled to produce a fully working system, or nearly fully working. Only thing that remains missing is proprietary drivers and such, these tend to be the things specific to each phone, files that would make particular chips work, particular functions, the specific phone kernel, etc. but once you have the source code, you're over 80% done as far as having the resources needed to develop a full rom. at this stage, some devs can produce a fully working, stellar rom, but it will take quite a bit more work than devs who choose to wait for the final stage
Then comes the OTA. this is where all the device-specific stuff comes to the devices, and devs have the absolute and complete freedom to produce a fully working, better than stock, experience. This is where roms flood the dev forums.
So as far as not having AOSP yet, and now this is our chance at AOSP? No, thats not why we dont have AOSP. we dont have it cause no one built it yet; the Touchwiz UX is sooo integrated in the system that untangling and taking it all out is a long and drawn out process, and theyd need to deconstruct what we currently have, take out elements of touchwiz until its all clean, all the while making sure it doesnt break anything else.
but getting the jellybean source code propels devs because now this is a new OS, a new AOSP with its own new interesting properties. and because Jelly bean is a small update compared to ICS, now that we have source code, many of the device specific stuff wont be broken by implementing jellybean code into it, therefore building a Jellybean rom is a faster path to AOSP than untangling the current ICS for Galaxy S III
Does that make sense?
mt3g said:

AOSP in this case is talking about the actual Android Open Source Project. so it is a bunch of code. so why are we excited? we've had ICS AOSP code for nearly a year now, what we dont have is AOSP roms. building an ICS AOSP rom is much harder than building a JB Rom, and we currently have icecream sandwich on the SIII even if its touchwized, and undoing touchwiz is quite a bit of work. but Jellybean...Oh Jellybean, now we got the source, we will start getting that baby soon and it'll boost dev on these devices. make sense?

Not sure if you were trying to come off rude or not, but people are excited because its the newest update, duh. Reason being we don't have 4.0 AOSP is because the phone hasn't been out that long for the US carriers.

After reading through it, it will most likely not work at all for our device without modification. Our device doesn't play well with libandroid_runtime's from other devices most of the time.
And honestly, porting is hardly ever as easy as just copying and pasting. UNLESS you are working with 2 ROMs that are actually the same version. Like using a sense2.1 base to port a themed sense 2.1 rom, or a cm7 base to port a cm7 rom with a few tweaks.
