On stock 4.3, it's at:
Settings > Language & input > Google Keyboard (settings tab on right) > Voice input key > Mic on main keyboard

This is happening to me too on 4.4 KitKang and its driving me nuts. If anybody has a fix, I would really appreciate it!
EDIT: oh, I found it! Right when you go into "Language and Input Settings", you gotta check "Google Voice Typing" along with the AOSP keyboard.

Can't figure this one out. Using the LG keyboard, I do not have a mic icon no matter what I try (it is enabled in settings). Selecting Google Voice typing doesn't even open. Using the stock google keyboard from the play store doesn't allow me to select the mic icon either from the ',' key. I have checked the installed voice engines (LG, Pico) and installed the google voice engine but nothing works. Anyone else having problems with this function?

Yes exact same issue- in settings under Lang and Input & LG Keyboard, voice input is auto selected but grayed out. Google search bar widget shows mic icon in preview view, but when I add it to the home screen the mic icon is gone and nothing happens when you click on the bar. Phone's mic is working normally. Gettin worried....
Same problem!
24A IOroot TWRP 2.7 Malladus 2.0.2.
To text, I have to tap a LOT of buttons.
1 tap on text icon.
Then tap the + icon to compose new message.
Then tap the status bar button to drop down status bar.
Then tap choose input method.
Then choose either "Google voice typing" or "LG Keyboard".
Then choose contact.
Then text.
There is no microphone icon on the LG keyboard for texting.
I'm a noob. This is the clunkiest text interface I could imagine.
What am I missing? Is there a text app I need to download to get a better interface with the ROM?
Thanks for any help!!
I can drop-down the status bar and touch allows me to select between Google mic or LG keyboard,

BTW - my google voice typing does work when I select it as described above.
I enabled it under Settings / Language and Input.
Try uninstalling Google voice search and then reinstalling it. This worked for me.

Do you have a settings cog to the left of your space bar? If so long press that and you are presented with options including the microphone. Once you click on the microphone the popup window goes away and the settings cog is replaced with a microphone. This worked for me when I had the LG Keyboard. I'm currently using the AOSP keyboard which has the microphone by default.

Thanks!
Worked like a charm!
My button left of the keyboard had the pencil. On longpress, it gives the option of pencil, mic, settings, or a note thingy.
I had it in my head that my problem was some kind of buggy thing associated with removing bloat and stuff.
In fact, it was nothing more than "please try to learn how to use your own phone".
So I kinda feel dumb....
But on the positive side, you look brilliant!
Thanks!

Just stumbled across it one day. You can do the same with the command and period buttons to the right of the space bar.

I had the exact same problem, and after hours of searching, found that somehow Google Search was disabled. Go to settings/applications and slide all the way to the right under "disabled" and click on Google Search, and then re-enable it.
Next, go to General Settings/Language & Input and make sure there is a check next to Google Voice Typing. Problem should be solved.

Exactly the same thing happened to me once but i figured the problem!
Follow these steps to fix the problem
1. Open settings, in the general column click on language and input.
2. Go to Google voice typing and enable it.
3. Click on the gear next to Google voice typing.
4. Change the language to only English US.
5. AND THAT'S IT....IT WORKED FOR ME.....ENJOY VOICE TYPING!!!
I'm running XtreStoLite touch wiz lollipop rom.
In both the Samsung and Google keyboards there is no mic button. When I go to 'settings > language and inputs ' Google voice typing isn't an available option to check. I've seen some threads mentioning turning Google search on, but I don't even see any option for that anywhere. I'm using Google launcher and Google now if that makes any difference. All that seems to work just fine. I just really want to have my voice typing back. Any clue what's happened to it? I'm not even certain it's ever been there on TW lollipop.
Help! Thanks
When using my Axon 7, I noticed that whenever I long press the capacitive home button, it opens up Google voice. I'm using Nova Launcher on root and even though there is an option to change it, it doesn't work. Does anyone know how to change this?

Have you rooted yours yet? And are you sure it's Google Voice? If anything it should be the Google app.

I am sorry for any confusion. Let me explain more clearly. I am currently rooted. Also, I did not mean Google Voice. I simply meant that long-pressing the the capacitive home button launches the Google app. I want to remove that and select something else. If it can't be done then that is all that I want to know. I'll live. It really isn't a big deal. I just hope that someone has an answer.

Apologies, I didn't see that you did say you were rooted. Not sure why it won't work with Nova. I thought perhaps it might have something to do with root. Although it shouldn't.

Go to Settings. Go to All Settings. Press the search icon. Type "assist". Choose "Assist & voice input" then choose "Assist & voice input" again. Then choose what you want there.

if I type assist in the search it finds nothing?!
If you have root and xposed works on it then you could try "xposed additions". Remapping home to flashlight has revolutionised how I pee at night
Has anyone figured out how to do this? I've tried every setting and app and rooted app under the sun. Absolutely nothing disables this "feature".

This method working just fine. Even with EU model. Thanks :good:
"Go to Settings. Go to All Settings. Press the search icon. Type "assist". Choose "Assist & voice input" then choose "Assist & voice input" again. Then choose what you want there."
Make sure you tap on the words "Assist & voice input" NOT on the gear icon. Then you should be able to change the setting to none. Then you can use Nova to make the changes you want.
When I swipe up, either from the bottom edge of the screen OR up on the fingerprint sensor, it opens the Google app. This is usually a setting I've been able to turn off in other tablets but can't seem to figure out how to do so on my new M3. It's bothersome, especially because the gesture is overly sensitive on the fingerprint sensor/navigator ie I will attempt to go back (short press) or go home (long press) but it will pick up an upwards swipe and open up Google which I can't stand (it keeps spoiling the latest TV episodes I haven't watched yet!). Anyone know how to disable this? Just uninstall/disable the Google app?
Had the same issue so I disabled Google now. Then I installed another browser Opera and Firefox and now my browsers are using this gesture. A slight upward motion over the scanner and it opens now. I've not found a way to disable it. I tried using on screen navigation but prefer the button.
The only reliable way to disable this gesture is to deactivate the sensor in the navigation menu and then in the same menu you have to activate the navigation bar.
Actually I found if you enable both methods of navigation you no longer get the swipe up gesture activating Google now. It's not the ideal situation but I can use either method.
I install swipelaunch disabler by hairy robot. Its in google playstore.

Thank you @teruhiko666 ! That appears to have solved it and I can turn off the on screen buttons.

Just got m3, it's very annoying to have that swipup gesture. Thank you for sharing, it's the best solution.
from "SwipeLaunch Disabler" description:
Important: For Marshmallow (Android 6), it is possible to disable the assist feature.
Follow below steps:
(1) goto "Settings > Apps > Advanced (the small gear icon) > Default Apps > Assists & voice input"
(2) select "none"

It worked for me. I'm on Android 6.x. I had to enable swipeup utility as default assist app. Then it worked fine. So much better. Before doing this, Everytime I typed it kept bringing up Google assistant. That was so annoying.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't see any documentation about setting the default app. How did you figure it out?

Hello folks, I've got a strange visual issue with my Galaxy S8:
Huh, seems like I can't link any images. Sorry if I trasgress the board rules in my first post:
hCATSttp://i.imgur.com/xwKihwe.png
My Google search bar stopped being the Galaxy S8's one. The microphone icon is still in the right but the Google logo is now absent, the space is more bright (I think), the corners aren't rounded, and the text "Say Ok Google" is aligned in the right. Practically, it's in material design with the wrong alignment.
There aren't any other launcher installed, I'm still using TouchWiz/Samsung Experience.
How can I fix this problem?
P.S. The similar threads popup sure is useful (not for my case), every board should have something like this.
This has happened to me as well.
To fix you'll need to go into the Google App Settings --> Widgets --> Turn off "Show Updates"
Hope that helps.

Try to go to Settings > Apps and find Google App, then uninstall the updates thru the three dots.
