When I swipe up, either from the bottom edge of the screen OR up on the fingerprint sensor, it opens the Google app. This is usually a setting I've been able to turn off in other tablets but can't seem to figure out how to do so on my new M3. It's bothersome, especially because the gesture is overly sensitive on the fingerprint sensor/navigator ie I will attempt to go back (short press) or go home (long press) but it will pick up an upwards swipe and open up Google which I can't stand (it keeps spoiling the latest TV episodes I haven't watched yet!). Anyone know how to disable this? Just uninstall/disable the Google app?
Had the same issue so I disabled Google now. Then I installed another browser Opera and Firefox and now my browsers are using this gesture. A slight upward motion over the scanner and it opens now. I've not found a way to disable it. I tried using on screen navigation but prefer the button.
The only reliable way to disable this gesture is to deactivate the sensor in the navigation menu and then in the same menu you have to activate the navigation bar.
Actually I found if you enable both methods of navigation you no longer get the swipe up gesture activating Google now. It's not the ideal situation but I can use either method.
I install swipelaunch disabler by hairy robot. Its in google playstore.
Problem solved
Thank you @teruhiko666 ! That appears to have solved it and I can turn off the on screen buttons.

Just got m3, it's very annoying to have that swipup gesture. Thank you for sharing, it's the best solution.
from "SwipeLaunch Disabler" description:
Important: For Marshmallow (Android 6), it is possible to disable the assist feature.
Follow below steps:
(1) goto "Settings > Apps > Advanced (the small gear icon) > Default Apps > Assists & voice input"
(2) select "none"

It worked for me. I'm on Android 6.x. I had to enable swipeup utility as default assist app. Then it worked fine. So much better. Before doing this, Everytime I typed it kept bringing up Google assistant. That was so annoying.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't see any documentation about setting the default app. How did you figure it out?

You'll probably have to root and freeze or uninstall S-Finder.
Found one solution: Tasker profile
Trigger:
Variable Set: %WIN
Value: S Finder
Action:
Open Google search
You NEED to enable tasker service from Settings -> Device -> Accessibility -> Under Services there is "Tasker - JB"
CAUTION! This will disable one handed "windowed" mode for some reason.
Only way i have found to use menu key as Google now, but really bad way since it breaks windowed mode.
And why so hard way? because for some reason Tasker doesn't show S Finder in app list...
Also made post to Tasker group
Yes. This has to get fixed

If you don't care about using S Finder, you can freeze it in Titanium.

This only stops S Finder to appear, I want to use app's built in search function with holding menu button.
same here, S Finder is easy to freeze, but the TouchWiz must try to start google, instead if internal bloat.
For me, if I hold the search menu, it will start Google search... But if I hold it a little more, s finder will start. I'm using a third party launcher (nova launcher) which has an option for the menu button... But this does not disable s finder from appearing.
If my device is not rooted, is there a way to freeze s finder?
This is pissing me off too. I got svoice disabled (double tapping home) but not svoice.
Anyone else have a crack at this? I can't get it to disable in the applications menu. It's greyed out.
Some launchers let you set the options.
Otherwise, don't think you can without rooting. Irritatingly, because S Finder keeps running and I never have nor ever will use it. I remember where I keep things...

this does not completely work...
I have Nova Launcher... and when I select Google Search for the menu button, yes it will lanch Google... but if I hold it a little more, S Finder will open over Google Search.
I hope there's a solution for this. It's an annoying "feature".

This is great for those of use that have already rooted our Note 3's, but with the Knox warranty issue I was hoping to find a solution that doesn't require root access. I have several friends with Note 3's that aren't rooted.

I don't know about anyone else, but this is my first MIUI phone.
I thought it would be useful to start a thread regarding MIUI notes/tips/etc that are specific to MIUI.
The first big one of course - how to fix push notifications:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin/...ions-on-xiaomis-miui-8-for-real/#11f834174e1b
I was about to start this very thread
I found a cool feature
You can select several photos for deleting by simply gliding your fingers over the photos
Another cool feature
You can orient that device do that it's upside
The top bezel-less becomes downwards.
The phone is also programmed to rotate it to the standard orientation during a phone call because of Mic location.
One thing I quite like is how specific WIFI connects can be disabled without having to remove them.
Our work WIFI blocks certain things, so it's nice to be able to disable it but not have
to totally remove it (and then reenter all the passwords when I re-enter it).

For each WIFI connection, there is a little > to the right of it.
If you touch that you go into another menu, and one option is 'auto connect on/off'.
Turning off autoconnect helps in situations where there are multiple WIFI signals, but you only want it autoconnecting to a specific one.

Thanks for clarifying.
What if I'm in the range of two networks that I've saved the passwords for.
Which does the mi mix connect to when I enter range?
Looks like the last one I've connected to.

That's actually a primitive way of doing it.
Samsung did it better by letting you 'peek' one-handedly with a simple swipe down of the notification.
With mi mix, I have to use two hands. I can do it with one hand but it's tough.

And just found out, we can't "swipe away" the notifications from the lockscreen directly. Need to pull down the shade and clear from there. Would this not be considered a stupid decision?!

Perhaps there's a solution if you root/install Xposed & a module is available for lockscreen options.
I'm rooted, but, haven't used Xposed in ages, considering trying it again......
On Samsung devices,(non-root) Ad Blocking apps have a persistent notification on the lockscreen that cannot be swiped away,.The only remedy for this was to turn off the ad blocking.

Those are uninstallable I guess (as Mi earns from these apps and not selling the phone), few rubbish were uninstalled using this method.
I should be able to disable them though
Apparently not
Some more MIUI notes:
menu + volume down = screenshot
hardware test: dial *#*#6484#*#*
More phone info: dial *#*#4636#*#*
There is a toggle to disable the navigation buttons (double tap them to re-enable)
handy if you keep accidentally hitting them.
in 'buttons' can auto disable for any particular app (games)
In accessibility there is a magnification mode - triple tap to allow/disable zooming of screen. (EDIT: it's bugged - it isn't supposed to trigger during keyboard typing, but it does, effectively making it useless)
wake with volume buttons is in lockscreen menu, not "button"
There are some apps that just won't stay uninstalled. Anyone got idea how to remove them? PPTV for example

Hi,
So a while ago my Smart View just stopped working. It was working fine in the beginning, but now when I press the Smart View button in dropdown menu, just nothing happens. It's always in a "faded" color - not uncolored like disabled options and not fully colored like enabled options. Just something in between.
I use package disabler to disable bloatware, but couldn't find anything TV-related in it that fixed it. There was com.samsung.android.app.withtv, which has a tv-and-smartphoney icon, but activating it again didn't help. No other hits for "smart", "view" or "tv" that I see related. Any idea what happened and how I could fix it, besides the obvious "restore to system settings" of course.

Is there a recommended app to use to for moto G play to disable certain apps? For instance, I use package disabler pro for my samsung s7.
I need to disable the google app from the long press home button for my 12 year old. We run norton family on chrome, but for whatever reason, the google now apps have always been exempt from norton filters. The phone did an update this morning and now I can't find any way to disable that feature or lock it with applock.

One more question I hope you'll know... As I was closing apps from the square "recent apps" button, the google search bar now appears at the top (and is accessible). Any ideas how to get rid of it? We are using Nova Launcher instead of google's native launcher, which helped get rid of the original google search bar on the home screen.

Does anyone know why and how to fix?
Same for me love the old one plus gesture of swiping up from the corners to go back, and this edit using the app in the article brings that back, but correct when you swipe up from corner instead of taking you back to the previous page in an app etc ,it just takes you straight to home screen .
It seems both OP gestures and a10 gestures are on simultaneously. There should be a way to disable a10 ones
I got it fully working on my 8 Pro I just need the assistant disabled it keeps popping up when I go back. I asked on the other thread (themes and apps) of the 2 button gestures control got no reply it's been a fews days. If after you set it in the app to activate then in settings, and buttons and gestures you should just see the how to on the bottom of the screen with no option to pick it but there activated

Disable assistant on settings
---------- Post added at 12:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:13 PM ----------
Settings>apps& notification>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app> none
I wasn't able to disable Assistant as I have no option other than Google in the Assist & Voice input.
I found a way to disable the Assistant with the following adb command:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure assistant 0
This will remove the assistant gesture completely.
The only problem, that the setting resets after restart.
Another possible solution is to install Tasker from the Play Store and start it up.
Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Default apps > Assist & voice input > Assist app. Select Tasker and click OK.
Perform the assistant gesture and click "Stop Reminding".
Open Tasker again and in the menu on the top right just select Disable Tasker.

You can disable it through settings. Unsure of exactly where the setting is, but in settings, search for default assist.
Is it just me that despite all this tricks still ends up home when swiping for back on the right hand side?
I manage to only go back, but for that to work I need to swipe aaaal the way to the right (like on the curved part), and still there it triggers the to lines coming in from the sides and meeting up in the middle. I think this is something like a animation for the assistant.
I didn't know I was able to disable it (Google Assistant). thank you very much. Done and back to stock OnePlus gestures control. ? Much appreciated

And this option (none) as it is shown on the picture isn't shown to me. There are only Google Assistant, Firefox and a third app to choose but the option"none"is not offered. So it seems I am unable to disable the Assistant to get back the OnePlus gestures. Someone has any advice how to get it disabled?
If you follow my post to change it via the command of just change it to use Tasker, it'll work.
I don't have to option to select nothing either, but with the ADB command, you can force it, until a restart and this method will disable the gesture completely. If you decide to use tasker, the gesture will stay there, so you'll see the lines going from the corners towards the middle, but no action to8 be performed.

Yeah I have the same problem in apps and notifications / default apps./ Assist. On previous devices this is where I disabled the assistant, but the option none isn't here. The one found if searching for "default assist" is somewhere else, I think somewhere in Google settings as the background color changes to a lighter one.
