enabling gmail and samsung accounts to allow automatic syncing? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Samsung Calendar and Gmail Calendar and Tasks have all stopped syncing automatically since the 4.2.2 upgrade. When I go to SETTINGS > ACCOUNTS, I can see my Google and Samsung accounts as well as my Dropbox account. The Dropbox account does sync automatically. However clicking on the google or samsung account shows each of them to be "disabled". I can find not menu item or long press anywhere that gives the option to "enable" these accounts.
On my other 4 android devices running 4.x versions of Android other than 4.2.2 I do not have this problem and everything syncs with google and all other devices.
Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thank you.
YES. I did do a search but found no hits. Either there isn't another prior thread on this question or I don't know the correct monkey words to get hits.

You should hit up the Q&A section.

I have the same problem for my Samsung account shown here and couldn't find a fix for it.

As far as your Google account, try going to Settings>Data Usage and then tick the "Auto-sync data"
Hope that works for you.

Removing Address Book Default of T-Mobile Contact to Google Contact

One of the more annoying things I have found with my T-Mobile MyTouch 4g which I have Perm Rooted S=Off is that whenever you add a new contact either from log, texts or just create new contact it Defaults to a T-Mobile contact, and if you are not careful or forget about it that particular second you get screwed and have to create it again as a google contact. I want it to default to being a Google Contact so it goes into my Google Address Book automatically, not phone, not T-mobile but the google contact. Does anyone know how to make this happen, or how to modify some sort of file to accomplish this? A tutorial would be great and I am sure other people would appreciate it as well
I would like to know the same thing. It is so annoying that it does that.

I found the solution:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/myTou...ntacts-you-want-to/td-p/584679/highlight/true
Please read this instruction carefully and be sure that you saved all your contacts with your google account. uncheck in the sync menu all accounts (Qik, Exchange etc) except your main google account.
1) On the web, make sure ALL your contacts are in your Google.com contacts.
2) On your phone, make sure sync with T-Mobile is UNCHECKED and that ONLY Google sync IS checked.
3) Go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and choose the Running tab.
4) Scroll and choose Contacts Storage.
5) Select Clear Data - WARNING- THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTACTS DATA FROM YOUR PHONE. DON'T WORRY. IT WILL SYNC BACK.
6) Go into Contacts. Hit Menu/View. Make sure that T-mobile (and any other accounts you don't want to display) is UNCHECKED.
7) Go back to Accounts & Sync and make sure Google is syncing ant that T-Mobile remains deselected.
You should be good to go when it comes to Google being the default contact entry. If you had contacts linked with Facebook, Twitter or otherwise, you will have to now let those sync and auto-link again. It's worth the trouble, though. Good luck.

It did not work for me as described but I followed the directions on the post from psyclism which says:
My first try didn't work either. I ended up disabling sync on ALL of my accounts, clearing data then rebooting my phone. After that I enabled google contact sync, and viola! Google is now the default. I then enabled all of the other accounts (except for TMobile) and Google has remained my default account type.

Does this still work? I am trying everything listed above, but t-mobile is still the default.

[Q]Sync Push Notification Issues

Hi all,
This is my first post here, so please bear with me. I'm running CM7 stable and tiamat 4.0.1 currently.
I'm have two main problems:
1) Gmail sync. I've tried most of the tips I've seen on this forum and others about clearing the cache, resyncing my Google account and re-installing the app. They all amount to temporary solutions as my phone just doesn't seem to sync with my Gmail account. From what I remember, wasn't there some sort of setting in either "Accounts & Sync" or the actual Gmail app itself that lets the user determine sync frequency?
2) WhatsApp push notifications. I received a message at 12:22AM and did not get a push notification until 7:22AM. I've poked around in the settings as best I could and don't see anything about sync or even push notifications beyond the basic pop-up and style settings.
Aside from Spotify, these apps are the two I use most on my phone. I've searched tirelessly for the past 2 days for a solution to this problem to no avail. Any and all help/recommendations/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No, Gmail syncs with push automatically, there is no setting to change this.
As for your problem, it could be one of two things. One, could be a bad signal or 3g outages in your area. How is your signal all day at home/work? Does this same problem happen on wifi? The second possible problem is it's just a problem with your rom/kernal. You could try flashing back to a stock from for a few days and see if it clears up the problem.
My signal has been consistent since rooting.
I haven't tested it out while on WiFi; I'll give it a look when I get to my home network, but if that's the case, is it indicative of a problem I could address that would make my Gmail sync over 3G?
And seeing as how I'm still very new to all of this, is there a specific Stock ROM/Kernel combination that you would recommend in terms of stability/reliability? I tend to get really lost and confused with all the posted ROMs.

Google Calender sync from gingerbread to jellybean

Hey guys. My friend just bought a s4 and having trouble syncing Google calender events older than 45 days old coming from gingerbread. "Photon user". I have copied his email below hooping someone might have some help for him.. Thanks for any help..
" From what I understand the newest version of Android OS no longer supports synchronizing of calendar events older than 45 days.* My Photon running gingerbread would sync events 12 years old.* I was told that if I am able to activate the Google Exchange server it will sync all events.* I was unable to get my S4 to accept the suggested configuration for Exchange Server with Google.* I've tried fixing the problem by setting to airplane mode, setting the clock back to 2000 on my phone, purging calendar storage and removing my Google account..* Then*turn on Wifi and add my Google account back in.* It still will not sync prior to 2013.* Is there a fix for this or a Calendar app that syncs the entire calendar to Google directly?*"*

How to activate Auto Sync Hannspree SN1AT71 HSG1279

Hi
Firstly I apologise if this is in the wrong section. I wasn't sure whether it should be in a Q 7 A section or Networking. If it's in the wrongplace please could an admin move it for me.
I've recently bought the above tablet primarily to check my work e-mail on the move.
So I've got the point where the mail app is on the "Waiting to Sync Your email will appear soon" screen but it's just not syncing.
I've had a mooch about and the problem seems to be that I need to activate auto-sync. Indeed when I look at my account "Corporate" I can see it says "Sync is off"
All the guides I can find say go to settings> data usage and activate it from there.
The problem I have is that I don't have an option called data usage in my settings..
I do get and option to Sync Now by digging around a bit but although it says Calender; Contacts, & Email have Sync'd the mail app is still stuck at the "Waiting to Sync" Screen.
This tablet is running on 4.2.2. Kernel version 3.4.0
Anyone know how I can activate auto-sync?
Many thanks
fritz
EDIT: Problem solved; downloaded a widget t toggle on & off

This forum has a search function, please use it.
This is the 4th thread on this subject in the last 7 days. The question has already been answered. It's a problem with the latest update. Either uninstall them or live with it and wait until the they release a fix.
Good day.
