Google Calender sync from gingerbread to jellybean - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hey guys. My friend just bought a s4 and having trouble syncing Google calender events older than 45 days old coming from gingerbread. "Photon user". I have copied his email below hooping someone might have some help for him.. Thanks for any help..
" From what I understand the newest version of Android OS no longer supports synchronizing of calendar events older than 45 days.* My Photon running gingerbread would sync events 12 years old.* I was told that if I am able to activate the Google Exchange server it will sync all events.* I was unable to get my S4 to accept the suggested configuration for Exchange Server with Google.* I've tried fixing the problem by setting to airplane mode, setting the clock back to 2000 on my phone, purging calendar storage and removing my Google account..* Then*turn on Wifi and add my Google account back in.* It still will not sync prior to 2013.* Is there a fix for this or a Calendar app that syncs the entire calendar to Google directly?*"*

Samsung Vibrant TouchWiz Calendar not sending invites to participants.

Hi all-
My Samsung Vibrant TouchWiz Calendar is not sending invites to participants when saving the calendar entry to exchange 2003 push synced calendar. I only sync my calendar and email to exchange (not my contacts because I can't add ringtones to exchange contacts). The calendar entry gets synced to exchange, but shows up in outlook with no attendees. Also the attendees never receive an invite email. The touchwiz calendar however will send invites when I save the calendar entry to gmail. Is this a limitation or a bug? As a side note, the default Android calendar on my coworkers droid (not TouchWiz) synced to the same exchange 2003 server works just fine at creating calendar entries with participants and sending meeting invites.
PS: I'm the IT admin for everything so I can check any setting or apply any fix because I'm awesome...

Really guys? No one has an answer our similar experience?

Still no expert opinion? Am I the only one?

This seems to be a problem in the stock e-mail / calendaring client. So far, I have found only 3 work arounds:
1. Schedule meetings from the PC client (which is what I do).
2. Schedule meetings using a third-party client like TouchDown or Roadsync. I used to use Roadsync, but their later builds have not been up to par. So, I've moved back to stock.
3. Send your calendar invitation as an attachment from the Calendar app.
I don't know if 2.2 fixes this shortcoming or not.
There's been a long conversation about this elsewhere, but I'd have to search around for that thread.
P.S. That is interesting about your co-worker's droid.
ScratchSF,
Thanks for the update. I am glad atleast someone took the time to review. I have been flipping through AndroidForums, XDA, T-Mobile Forums, etc for a fix/workaround or at least an answer from someone with a bit more experience. I agree with you on the third party app. I tried TouchDown and the UI is just not something I could ever get used to using. I am not sure it is a stock email/calendar client issue, more likely its the Touchwiz interface. What leads me to this conclusion like I said in the previous post is the following observations:
TouchWiz Calendar is able to send invites when saving calendar entries to gmail calendar
I have verified with my own eyes that one of my employees, Droid sends invites when saving to his exchange calendar and he is running Eclair 2.1 with the stock android calendar
Various other shortcoming of the Touchwiz calendar including having to specify which calendar to save to for every calendar entry created (With the un-deleteable "My Calendar" being the default)
I appreciate you clearing the air and letting me know that there is a thread out there that discusses this issue in further detail. My curiosity is peaked however, I would enjoy reading what others have said so if you could send me the thread to look at, I would appreciate it.
You could always just replace the TouchWiz calendar with the stock one. Also, it's "piqued my interest" not "peaked"... that always irks me...
ScratchSF,
Thanks for responding to the post and clearing some of the confusion running around in my head. 8 Years of IT experience, 1 month of Android experience. You get the picture.
I would love to read the thread you are refering to that discusses this issue in further detail (I have yet to see one that fully details the issues) and I have been searching for a month now.
I do agree that if the limitation is an Android issue, the fact that my employee's Eclair 2.1 with stock Calendar being able to save calender entries to exchange and have the invites go out it a pecuiliarity. However in my research I see that there are quite a few issues with the Samsung/Touchwiz calendar (besides my problem) that would make it much more likely that Samsung does not properly support Exchange syncing yet. My understanding with 2.2. Exchange enhancements was that Tasks and Memo syncing would be added features. I personally have seen my employee's droid function correctly (running the stock calendar).
So if you could dredge up the thread you where talking about so I can read for my own sense of sanity, I would appreciate it.

Kuhan,
Sorry to say that I have already tried that. Replacing the TouchWiz calendar with the stock Android calendar causes a force close when attempting to sync to Exchange. This is likely to do with the stock Android Calendar provider not having the same hooks that the Samsung/TouchWiz calendar provider has. It was my first step (as I think the stock calendar is far better).
Any other ideas?
Update... Upgraded to Team Whiskey Obsidian V2 and then V4.2 w/ULF and since the upgrade, calendar had been working like a dream. Invites sent via exchange get sent to the recipient through exchange. Accepted invites still don't update the status of participants but oh well it works!

[Q] Facebook contact syncing w/photo broken in Froyo?

So I did some searching and couldn't find an answer. I upgraded to froyo (nebula 1.0.7 sister release) and it's not syncing photos. I know this has been asked before in another thread, and someone responded saying it was answered w/o providing a link...but I couldn't find it. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
IIRC, it will happen if you sync via the Facebook app, instead of going into Accounts and Sync in your phone settings and adding your Facebook account there. I blame TouchWiz.

calendar wont sync

Hi, I tried searching for something like this on xda and I couldn't find anything. On my galaxy s2 the calendar app just doesn't sync with my Google mail account. I go into calendar it asks me to go to he Google account sync setting to sync calendar, even though the tick box for sync calender is checked, I click sync now anyway. After it has finished I go back to the calendar app, and it asks me to do the the same thing again. My contacts and even wallpaper form my old phone were synced propyl from my Google account but not my calendar. I just can't seem to find any reason why it isn't working. I've never had any problems like this before on my old rooted htc desire, where was flashing new roms weekly, so why on my galaxy s2. Would someone be able to help me please?
Just wanted to say I have the same problem, hopefully someone can help us.
I think it might be the Samsung social hub, together with the inability if kies to sync with google, and an assumption that you might want to use kies (or a lack of testing with the google calendar)
Try removing your social hub facebook account, and maybe deleting all the calendar data on the phone (under settings/applications/calander) so long as you are confident you have nothing stored locally without a backup.
I find the social hub facebook integration useless at the moment, since it doesn't hide declined invitations for me, so I'm going back to trying the google integration (which means i get birthdays spamming my calendar instead)

I have never used the Social Hub or Kies or even set any calender events on the phone itself but just clearing the calender data did fix the problem, and my Google calender events started syncing.
Thanks

[Q]Sync Push Notification Issues

Hi all,
This is my first post here, so please bear with me. I'm running CM7 stable and tiamat 4.0.1 currently.
I'm have two main problems:
1) Gmail sync. I've tried most of the tips I've seen on this forum and others about clearing the cache, resyncing my Google account and re-installing the app. They all amount to temporary solutions as my phone just doesn't seem to sync with my Gmail account. From what I remember, wasn't there some sort of setting in either "Accounts & Sync" or the actual Gmail app itself that lets the user determine sync frequency?
2) WhatsApp push notifications. I received a message at 12:22AM and did not get a push notification until 7:22AM. I've poked around in the settings as best I could and don't see anything about sync or even push notifications beyond the basic pop-up and style settings.
Aside from Spotify, these apps are the two I use most on my phone. I've searched tirelessly for the past 2 days for a solution to this problem to no avail. Any and all help/recommendations/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No, Gmail syncs with push automatically, there is no setting to change this.
As for your problem, it could be one of two things. One, could be a bad signal or 3g outages in your area. How is your signal all day at home/work? Does this same problem happen on wifi? The second possible problem is it's just a problem with your rom/kernal. You could try flashing back to a stock from for a few days and see if it clears up the problem.
My signal has been consistent since rooting.
I haven't tested it out while on WiFi; I'll give it a look when I get to my home network, but if that's the case, is it indicative of a problem I could address that would make my Gmail sync over 3G?
And seeing as how I'm still very new to all of this, is there a specific Stock ROM/Kernel combination that you would recommend in terms of stability/reliability? I tend to get really lost and confused with all the posted ROMs.

enabling gmail and samsung accounts to allow automatic syncing?

Samsung Calendar and Gmail Calendar and Tasks have all stopped syncing automatically since the 4.2.2 upgrade. When I go to SETTINGS > ACCOUNTS, I can see my Google and Samsung accounts as well as my Dropbox account. The Dropbox account does sync automatically. However clicking on the google or samsung account shows each of them to be "disabled". I can find not menu item or long press anywhere that gives the option to "enable" these accounts.
On my other 4 android devices running 4.x versions of Android other than 4.2.2 I do not have this problem and everything syncs with google and all other devices.
Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thank you.
YES. I did do a search but found no hits. Either there isn't another prior thread on this question or I don't know the correct monkey words to get hits.

You should hit up the Q&A section.
I have the same problem for my Samsung account shown here and couldn't find a fix for it.

As far as your Google account, try going to Settings>Data Usage and then tick the "Auto-sync data"
Hope that works for you.
