What is the best file hosting site... My personal priorities (no specific order): no file size limit, fast DL speeds for people tryna DL your files, fast upload speeds, FREE, be able to access files on the go and on y computer (computer+mobile app).
My personal favorite way to share files is torrents. If its not practical for whatever your needs are im also a fan of dropbox, mega , and 4shared. Not sure what the file limits on the sites are. I typically use torrents for anything over 500 mb.

Well it doesnt really matter what tracker you upload it to. As youd still have to seed it. You could upload to thepiratebay, isohunt , etc. I have a desktop setup at home that I seed from.

Thanks man. 4Shared had a 200MB file upload cap so I deleted that account. But Mega is pretty legit and is allowing me to upload my 1.5 GB backup of my ROM so I'm pretty happy with this so far! Dropbox was WAYY to slow to upload and download.
Pilebay - Free File Hosting
New file hosting website with affiliate program
PileBay.com was created as a fresh alternative for online file storage to sites like MegaUpload and RapidShare. Unlike those sites, we do
not reel the user in and make them wait for annoying countdown timers. We do not hide the download link with aggressively placed ads. Our
goal is simple, to offer the most basic file hosting service so you can share your stuff quickly.

Right now seem that all download site are down and what are we going to do and how can we get custom rom and file from DEV? I cant even download the ICS V11 file right now.
Not sure dude but I was waiting for this to happen with all that went on yesterday and last night with the FBI and ANONOMYOUS.
Wonder if it is a Cyberlocker Protest like the SOPA blackout. Is Dropbox working? I am at work so Firewall blocks it.
Wonder if XDA will ramp up the size limit on uploads. Most custom ROMs, even at their heaviest would be less that 200mb. Things are definately going to change.
Suppose I could put Passion v11 on and SD card and mail it to ya.
try a different one, dont use magaupload. there will always be a file hosting site, the world demands it.
Megaupload was the only one affected, which itself is a BS issue considering the claims and it hasn't spread to other hosting sites (yet...), bit of an overreaction that you won't get ROMs, there's thousands of hosting sites. Just a matter of time for mirrors of them to be created.
Well Im hoping Dev figure out. Cause I cant wait to see Team Toxic D9 with the final rom before FBI shutdown all the upload hosting site. I got the feeling that FBI is going after all the hosting site very quickly. FBI is one of the stubborn SOB!
Offshore FTP hosting? Ahah.

is similar to dropbox but i just signed up and they gave me 15gb free online storage
and also there os an android app in the market.
I figure id share the info if you didnt know because i just found out. lol

Does it have a desktop app that's as good as Dropbox, for free? If not, yawn.
Also, 4shared has bandwidth limits and waiting times. Dropbox has transfer (not bandwidth) limits, and direct, unf'd-with links.

EDIT:
I no longer own a u8800, neither will I host the download server in the near future. Better host providers exists than my download server. I still have the files (approx. 15-20GB) if anyone else is interested for hosting, though they are most likely outdated by now.

Hi!
I decided that I will host a mirror for everything related to our U8800 - Ideos X5.
It's hosted at my home. I have 20Mbps uplink on FTTH (fiber). The links below are redundant, each link is hosted on a seperate 20Mbps link. I do have some issues from time to time on server.streznik.org, cause it is updating in my OS, while qrac.zapto.org is updated on my router.
I will try to keep things organized and be online as much as possible (I cant guarantee 99% uptime). I am from Europe, so speeds elsewhere may be a bit slow.
And if I helped you getting a file you could not find elsewhere, use the Thanks button.
Primary: http://qrac.zapto.org/
Secondary: http://server.streznik.org/ Please use this only if the primary website is down
Permanently offline!
I switched to Ubuntu server for hosting the mirror, I will add upload function later.
Update 14.3.2012:
Switched to HFS. Everyone can upload, I will sort files later. Developers are not strangers here aswell. No bandwidth capping.
Update 18.3.2012
Added U8800 PRO section per request
Added some statistics at the bottom of the page
Update 21.3.2012
Wow! Over 200 Absolute Unique Visitors in 2 days reported by Google Analytics!
HFS reports over 1200 IP's connected since I began this little project! Few of them are zombies from China, but still!
Update 23.3.2012
New categories, I grouped them because of the increasing vertical size. It takes a second or two longer to find what you are actually looking for (more clicks), but it makes the whole page more compact.
Also added a graph at the bottom of the page (1.8kB), pink is download and yellow is upload.
Update 28.3.2012
All paid apk's have been removed after consulting with the moderator. Free apk's are allowed to be uploaded, while the paid ones will be deleted immediately, on the second occasion that a user will upload a paid apk, I will ban the IP.
Update 5.4.2012
I have changed my phone to Galaxy S i9000(Huawei never again!). I will still host the mirror, but it might not be updated so frequently.
Update 2.6.2012
I've updated ICS Aurora ROM files, as it is the ROM I keep my eyes on.
... Great news for all u8800 users ..
..just a little notice for you.. remove the ''mystuff'' folder, it contains Warez/Illegal files..

Hi there, there is a missing rom.

Its based on kernel .32 , froyo 2.2.2 and its flawless "there are no known bugs". You dont have a upload button so i leave the link. Cya and keep the server running.

Nice to see you having such work, but you can use a free app named "hfs file server" that is a http server with upload button already included, and other good things like ip update "for services like no-ip".

Please give me feedback on the download speeds. What is your best download speed compared to this mirror?
I tried it on my U8800, I got 2MB/s, not over LAN but Internet. I am worried because I see speeds about 140kB/s, one had 40kB/s. I have overclocked my router for best possible speeds.
I think you are overthinking the speeds of download, let me remind you that a lot of ppl are still atatched to adsl at 12 mb/s even less.
If you browse the forum of hfs you can find little tweaks that can do a little improvment, none the less, i tested and everything went well.
Sorry for the bad english, its not my native language.

I want to offer the best possible speeds to everyone, that means even if there are multiple users downloading, they still get their maximum speed. Mediafire is capping downloading to about 800kB/s, which is 1/3 of my speed. I believe there are more people like me, that want their files asap.

Just a little tip, Mediafire only caps download speed when downloading from the site. If I download through a file manager, I can download at the full speed my connection allows, 1,6MBps...

Well being few thousand kilometers apart does not help...that is why I mentioned "slow" speeds from those who arent from Europe or near EU.
After all, the main reason I had put up this backup mirror, well so it is backup up. Slower speed is better then no speed. Afaik I made everything as fast as possible.
Relax mate. I am not complaining at all! I actually love this because I downloaded SuperOneClick straight away in a few minutes.. I would have spent more time looking around the forum (and clicking broken links) then it took to download.
Keep up the good work mate. It's very organised.
Any possibility to make a U8800 Pro group as well? And you can post the same info in the Pro thread

I made a simple U8800 PRO section for now, I am not that familiar with PRO, + or -51 version, so I would rather stick with just the normal version, so I dont screw anything up .
Hi. I uploaded U8800V100R001C00B136SP02CUSTC205D001.rar. Its Finland b136 Elisa rom. I also linked your mirror in the ideos wiki.
Hi Ohjaaja!
I added and edited the wiki a bit, thank you for linking it. Moved your uploaded ROM to "Stock ROMs".
As you may see from my sig I maintain torrents of all the ROM's for the Desire S, and it has gone down very well there, people have donated a little money to the idea and I was able to rent and run a seedbox with a 1GB line just for there ROM's, thus giving people a fast and 'free' way to download ROM's
So the question is would people be interested in the same thing for the Note? It costs very little for me to run a seedbox (about $5 a month) and I would happly pay for some/all of this If there was enough interest in the idea?
A few advantages we came up with where
Assuming we would be downloading from a filehost (free)
1) Can pause a torrent
2) Zero waiting time to start download
3) Little to no chance of corrupted file
4) If corrupted only need the file blocks that are damaged
5) Unaffected by timeouts
6) Can seed the file to others (I see it as a +)
7) Could be faster than a free filehost download
If your not sure what a torrent or torrenting is check out the good old wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)
This goes to both developers and users, do you want torrents or not?
alot of isp's block torrents so its a PITA to use

This is true, however there are plenty of ways round this. And in some country's the big free download sites don't work or are horribly slow, at least torrents can give fast downloads around the world no matter where they are.
But you are right..guess to sides really
I'd like torrents.
IMO its probably safer because packages are less likely to be corrupted.

I would most definitely use torrents
It means zero waiting time on starting the download, and no more captcha's
Same here. I use torrents around the clock, and it's simply the best way to share big files. I've seen a couple of devs that have started to use torrents instead of those slow and unreliable sharing services, and i'm glad they do.
So my vote goes to YES.
Torrents are great, cant think why not...so Yes
Since all of the hosting site are closing shop, changing there policies or ending up like megaupload. Torrents became my source for files and entertainment.
Im happy im getting back into torrents, forgot how easy it was.
+1 for torrents and the fact I personally use tTorrent on my handset means, I can still download them straight to my phone if and when needed.

Oh christ no, Torrents are good for things which remain the same for a long time, like a movie, but a ROM becomes out of date the moment a new one is released...
Stick to DDL (rapidshare should be used more, I recon). I'd love to use usenet (NZBs) to get ROM's, it fast, no waiting, uploader only needs to 'seed' it once.
Though its only useful to people with a subscription, or if they get it free with an ISP.
It's the developers ROMs though, so really they can upload them where they wish!

i don't mind offloading the roms to newsgroups. didn't know users here will want that.
Why is the community hell bent on using hotfile for distribution of firmware it's so frustrating a regular download takes me 2 hours to download on a fibre connection. It's just out right ridiculous.

Nope. Everyone uses Samfirmware's links, they have their stuff on Hotfile. That's it.

I would love too if not for being entirely broke and can't afford a Hotfile premium membership. Which is the reason I started this thread in the first place. If I was infinitely wealthy I would snap up a premium membership.
i hate hotfile = = here my line just 512 kbps......when i download until 60% , i stop it....... then cant continute download , need download from 0% again = =
sry for my bad english XD
Three Thumbs down to Hotfile! Even I was wondering why the community practically uses only Hotfile. The speeds are terrible (~200 KB/s on a 8 Mbps connection i.e. ~1000 KB/s), and a couple of time it just randomly stopped downloading in the middle and failed. The worst was when it downloaded 1.5 GB / 1.5 GB of a firmware file and then just sat there for 30-40 minutes till I had no option but to cancel it. When I downloaded it again, it downloaded full, but when I unzipped it, the files were corrupted!!
The only other place that I have seen firmware files are on Mega.co.nz, and that too sucks!!! (I am surprised at how terrible Mega is). It also randomly keeps failing in the middle for no reason, though it does give better speeds (~800 KB/s on my connection).
Eventually I got my file through Mega, but it took me 15 minutes just to find a link on Mega hosting that particular file.
