Hello! I thought I'd make a thread about this because I ask myself this question since a long time. Is it 100% safe to use the Goo manager app from the play store? I mean: 1.Root Nexus 4 on computer
2.Install Goo manager app onto your device
3.Install openrecoveryscript. This is hard for me, what is the chance it will install a recovery that isnt made for my phone? And if its completely safe, can I then always update the recovery in the Goo app?
Thanks for reading this and I hope you guys want to help me!
I use goomanager all the time. I haven't had any problems at all.
The only way it could install the wrong recovery is if you are changing the device id in the build.prop.

So if I dont change any things it will just always download the right recovery and ROMs?
That is correct.

nothing is 100% safe. modding your device is far from 100% safe. heck, brushing your teeth isnt 100% safe.

Only serious comments please. With 100% safe I mean there's no bigger chance to brick than when flashing a recovery manually.

thats how ive been updating my twrp recovery. sure, theres always a chance that something will go wrong, sometimes flashing a recovery via fastboot can go wrong. but i trust goo myself. as i said before, nothing is 100% safe. that said, ive never heard of someone bricking their device flashing a recovery, ever. i have heard of people flashing the recovery for the wrong device before(manually), but that can be fixed.

Hi, I found this accidentally. I'm on 2.3.4 stock rooted with locked bootloader.
1. You must have root.
2. Install Rom Manager from Market
3. Open Rom Manager and flash ClockworkMod Recovery
4. Turn off you phone and connect to the wall outlet charger and its going to bypass bootloader and open recovery
That's all I found it by accident
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
This isn't news, clockworkmod is on most people's phones here, from a few different sources. Did you know you can install themes, radios, fonts, bootanimations, all kinds of things from recovery? Check out the development forum.
Yes but you don't need to unlock the bootloader to install rom's.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Incorrect.
If you try flashing a ROM right now you will brick your phone. We could get into a bootstrap recovery before the bootloader was unlocked, but if you installed a different system the phone would catch that upon next boot and won't start up. I believe it's at least something like that... You need an unlocked bootloader, basically!
If I install a different rom its not going to boot in to the rom? Why not?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Because your bootloader isn't unlocked lol, that's the whole point of the locked bootloader.
Why don't you just unlock it so that you CAN install custom ROMs?

ROM Manager installs recovery over the stock recovery, which is in the fastboot menu prior to loading the boot image. You can get into stock recovery prior to booting, but it basically does nothing. The ROM Manager recovery is semi-functional but doesn't wipe anything, which fails with installing. Romracer's recovery appears to be fully functional. After anything is installed in recovery, you will need to reboot system to initiate the bootloader. The bootloader has to load the kernel as well as the system/ROM for you to get into the environment. The bootloader checks that the signatures of the kernel and ROM match what it is expecting to see or you will get a brick. Unlocking the bootloader still loads the bootloader, but avoids the checking of signatures of kernel or ROM, if I understand correctly.
Ok but its going to let me install a rom, isn't the bootloader spouse to stop it from installing?
I just made a backup and it let me.

RSD Lite is Moto software, not for public use but leaked, that is needed for loading stock boot files (SBF). Check the development forum for all details about what you are doing/about to do/have done.

STOP doing ANYTHING to your phone RIGHT NOW. take some time to read several of the threads on the development forum and verse yourself in what RSD, SBF, fast boot, recovery, boot loaders and pudding are. there are LOTS of guides for beginners on how to change ROMs on the phone. what you're doing is NOT one of them.
if you do anything else with your phone right now without reading up and knowing what you're doing, you WILL **** up your phone.
This seems to be a troll attempt or an attempt to look really stupid, either way, the user doesn't seem to want to hear out anyone telling him to stop what he's doing, so I say just let him figure it out the hard way.

First off, this is the wrong section. But don't worry, everyone makes mistakes lol.
And now for the recovery. If you could get into your phone, like start it up and stuff. Install this app --> http://www.4ext.net/get.php?apk
Then install the app and open it. The rest is straight forward. It will install the recovery for you. Hope it helps.
Well if u installed recovery from ROM manager then u already flashed a recovery. U can boot into recovery from ROM manager app.

Please be more clear... If your are already on a custom recovery and want to change for ex currently on cwm and want to change it to twrp just flash the twrp zip and reboot, done. (Though not sure as I am still confused about your question)
You just flash a new recovery using fastboot, same as you did flashing the first custom recovery

Hi,
I have a galaxy s4 att rooted phone that is stuck in a boot loop. It turns on and works until it gets to to the att logo then it freezes. It happened because I tried to install a custom font on my phone using font installer. I looked everywhere on xda, google, and different sites but I didn't find anything. What I tried to do was use odin 3 and get it back to stock. I really don't need any of my data its fine if I don't get it back but I need it to be fixed. Its soft-bricked at the moment. I tried using different odin3 softwares and different files to work with odin and my phone, but they all give me fails. I used different usb cables and ports on my computer. I took all the advice I could from the internet but nothing. I was hoping someone could help me out here?

Yes but my only options are
Reboot system now
Apply update from adb
Apply update from external storage
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Apply update from cache
When I click wipe data/factory reset it just gives me the option to wipe the data.

They are both the same by the way. Wiping data is a factory reset.

Well, you're helpful. The dude has a serious problem and you butt in with that? Troll somewhere else!
Unfortunately ADB is not a specialty of mine. I also have no idea what went wrong. I know what you told me, but there is more specific things than the process of changing the font.
A system file that got changed. What was the change? Where is the file located? What is the file name? Are there more than one that could have been changed?
I am more of a hardware specialist. I know the bare basics of software but not enough to be confident enough to walk you through changing system files.

I'll go with that. Didn't want to make you look like a bad guy. I agree, people here need to do a lot more research before they mess with their phones. No worries. I know you know a lot about the devices. I too hate to see people mess up their phones because they don't read and learn.
No harm done. If i knew exactly how to solve OP's problem, I would. I would also tell them to not mess with stuff that can break their expensive ass phone until he/she fully understands the risk involved. I completely understand the risks and am ready to have a broke device. I am still careful with my phone though because I don't want to have to be ready. Especially since my phone shipped with MDL. I don't want to risk getting a MF3 device.

I will assume you have bought a used set. Possibly the previous owner has flashed a custom rom on it.
Maybe you can try download the official rom for your region and flash it with Odin and see if everything goes back to normal.
If you are not sure how to do the flashing, just Google for the instructions.
I also thought it might be a custom rom. And yes, it's an used set, kind of, but the person said it was never used.
