I was thinking it would be cool to have an app called "mirror" that just shows the front facing camera, without you having to go to the regular camera and then change to the front camera. Is there anything like that?

Thanks, there's nothing free though?
You can use you front camera just with your standard HTC cam app. Its VGA resolution though, by repeating these steps you can flip the cam image, or mirror it, its one of the two.
Works both with taking pictures or making vids.
Have fun!!!

Thanks, actually I'm wondering if there's any way to just open straight into that front facing camera, so you have a quick mirror to use when you need it fast without having to click a bunch of stuff.

currently it is not available but one of our great developers can do it
the concept is there, if you downloaded Fring application from the Market you will be able to perform Video Calls over the Skype (through Fring)
But that has no use, you must look at back camera and you cannot see the person with who are you talking...
Well you can carry a mirror with you and point the rear camera to that.

Mirror?
Hahahaha ) good one....
You can already do video calling with Fring, using Skype. No root required.
I heard root enabled X-ray vision on the camera, I ride the train a lot here in Japan, will come in handy.
I just bring a picture of whoever I'm talking to, and look at that.
It's just like video calling but better.
Sometimes I bring a picture of the Queen, and pretend I'm actually taking to her.
People on the train are amazed I know the Queen.
Aren't we a sarcastic bunch today!
I just close my eyes and imagine what the caller looks like.. It's cheaper that way.

Lol this thread is funny. But on a serious note, why can't we use the front camera?
P.S - My first post on XDA Forum

It's the proximity sensor or the ambient light sensor. Don't remember exactly what, but it's no camera.

I always thought it's the front camera. I can't believe this. Skype is going to come up with video calls on mobile phones and we can't use that feature now. How come X10 does not have front camera while almost all new phones have front camera. X1i has front camera lol

My guess is that SE has found that it's not used enough to warrant the extra cost. We've been doing videocalling here in .se for a few years and it hasn't really caught on. Even with free video-calling the uptake has been slow so they probably decided that the cost outweighed the benefits.

I just tried searching the forum to see if Skype video chat is possible with a D2. I didn't have any success and I am sorry if this question has already been answered!
It looks like my phone has a front facing camera but when I log in to Skype, video chat is not an option. Is it possible?
Thanks for your help!
D2 doesn't have a front facing camera.

What he said. What you're thinking is a front facing camera is probably the ambient light sensor in the upper right hand corner.

The Skype app, contrary to what most people would obviously assume, does not feature any kind of video chatting/calling feature. You are also most likely confusing the notification LED with a front-facing camera.
There is a free app on the Market, though, that provides video chatting capability; it's called Tango. I've tried it several times, and while it's a bit awkward video chatting with cameras on the back of both phones, it still works well enough that I can both see and hear the person I'm calling. The only annoyance I've had with the app so far is the noticeable sound delay, and it has some mixed overall reviews, but it's the only video calling app that seems to be viable.
Tango works alright. Try using it while standing in front of a mirror and it works pretty well on D2
I've been really anxious to try the video chat!
anyone willing to try it with me via fring or qik?
Qik- lesonal
fring- Atenkiang
I am willing to but will need your phone number. Can you email me at radaps at hotmail dot com. Also you will need to go to market.android.com and download the latest qik for atrix version 0.04.94
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.qik.motorola.android&feature=search_result
ill hit you up on Qik in an hour when i'm out of class
Please let us know how it worked...I am afraid that over 3G/"4G" the quality will be really bad due to disabled HSUPA upload speeds.
i couldn't get fring to use the front facing camera, only back. anybody find that setting to change it to ffc?

Tango crashes, doesn't work et all.
I used Qik earlier and the video was choppy and slow. FFC camera is very grainy. I don't know if it's just mine but it was definitely grainy. It displayed background color incorrectly. FFC being VGA camera so it is not very good quality. Anyone else have the same problem with grainy video?
Tango was the only one that worked with Nexus S
hopeuflly theyll fix it for atrix

I didn't try video chat with Qik, but I took few pics with FFC & they all came out grainy. FFC is low resolution VGA camera so we can't expect much from it.
Skype videochat is now avaiable for desire hd
but you cant send videos, but receive videos
Sound is no Problem.

Like... never??? When I bought my DHD I was like "I've had a mobile with a front facing camera for 5 years and actually have used it less than 5 times. So I can go along with the missing front camera." The only way to send video is with the rear camera, which as far as I know supports only higt resolution vidos. If it could capturre video at 640x480 @30fps that would be great for video talk, but only on high speed connection, cause of the data transfer.
Good news, finally I can see my partner again
As for video recording... Could be very difficult on our beloved DHDs. Without a front facing camera I would loose the "can see" part just gained with this update. However... If the rear facing camera could be used, you could hold your device in front of a mirror to see the screen (and your partner) again
Would be very interested in seeing traffic statistics...
Nice, hope I can use rear camera for video on DHD.
