Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to increase my minimum CPU clock in an attempt to get ride of the slight lag that I've been noticing. I know about SetCPU (I've been on XDA for a couple years already) but was wondering if there are any free alternatives available.
Thanks

Most custom ROMs have a Performance section. 3rd Party apps are SetCPU, Voltage Control, and a few others. KT Kernel has KTweaker packaged with it.
You can also try trickster mod. Its free in the playstore.

Hey guys just wanted to know what you think the best settings for this kernel are. Thanks

Leave everything in SetCPU the way it is unless you have issues with audio popping/cracking. Then adjust the minimum CPU speed to 200mhz.
Thank you! The kernel rocks btw.

i recently rooted my wildfire and have installed cyanogenmod 7.0.3 and wanted to double check something, ive been looking around threads and these overclocking guides and i saw that one of them said you only need a kernel with the ability to overclock if you are on stock rom, otherwise you can install setcpu straight away and overclock, could someone please just clarify this, thanks
Cm7 has overclock built in so no need for additional kernal or setcpu app
Go to Settings > Cyanogenmod settings > performance > CPU settings
It's basically setcpu built in

thanks, i gave it a go but every time i boot it always restores itself to 528, how can i set it to stick at a certain speed? thanks

There is a check box that says something like " set at boot" tick this and it will retain your settings

Also Smartass Governor is very good. Its interactive so manages CPU when required or when your handset is idle

so does this mean it wont affect battery too much as it will automatically reduce the speed and increase it when required, also what speeds would you recommend for min and max?

Yeah, as far as I know it caps min setting to 352 when idle/sleep even if you have yours min set higher than that. It then uses required CPU up to your Max depending on what processes are taking place.
Overclocking will effect battery life if you push it to far. I currently have mine set at 352/691 and it works for me giving speed and battery life.
Experiment your own tho

What are some apps that will allow me overclock and undervolt on my EVO??? Other than setCPU.... Is there anything newer and better???

I like using OS Monitor. I believe you can adjust the clock freq's with Process Monitor Widget as well, although i've never used that option before. You can't use either of those two apps I mentioned to set profiles. You can only adjust the governor and the clock speed.
And you need a kernel that allows overclocking, you probably knew that though
We're comin from a pure power source.
If you're running an aosp rom like cm7 or decks you can do over/under clocking from the advanced options. You can install viperboys script for undervolting. My favorite kernel is savagedzen but I'd recommend trying them all.
I just loaded the Inintial Contact Rom on my Sprint Tab. I found the voltage control/OC utility and was wondering what settings ya were using. I have searched these forums extensively and have found nothing on what people are using on these tabs. Thanks again

Anybody got a sprint tab with this ROM?

I haven't seen your ROM or Kernel (which is the far more important component when overclocking) so I'm not sure what it's capable of but you can see a couple of people (including me) share settings here.
Overcome can go up to 1.6GHz so I usually leave it on 800-1400 MHz as a general rule, with the same cascading voltage scheme I shared in the link.
Thanks that somewhat of a baseline to go by. This ROM just came out a few weeks ago and i just got the time to load it. I am running a kernel by rodderick. Fastest I can clock to is 1200mhz.

Yeah I think that's as fast as that kernel would let you Oc I have the exact same set up.

Overclocking on intial contact
After you move it up to 1200, save the settings. Close the program. then go back in. You should be able to move it higher? I'm pretty sure that's what I did. I flashed initial contact today. I'm keeping mine on 1200 for now... I don't feel like being too risky yet.
Hello everyone,
I am searching for an app, that allows me to switch off CPU cores of my Nexus and do decide how much min core and how much max cores will work. I can't find such settings in SetCPU.
Does anybody know such an app?
Use trickstermod.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
You will need trickster mod, aswell as a custom kernel with a configuarable hotplug system or eco mode.
I would recommend Franco Kernel Updater app along with franco kernel itself.
You can tweak how many cores come online when you touch the screen , max and min frequencies , screen color adjustments (Recommended values from obsanity is amazing!) , everything you would ever think of to tweak in a kernel manually , is scripted in this app.
It's highly recommended , you wouldn't be disappointed with it.

Thank you guys! I will give franco kernel a try, with the corresponding app. Because I want to try undervolting as well.
The nightly r183 seems to be the latest for 4.3 (I am running the Stock ROM). Does it have any discovered bugs?
If you want to make your device for example 2 cores on only franco kernel won't work you will need a kernel like: neo, matr1x or faux and use trickster mod (or for faux you can use faux enhancement project) apps and go in hotplug settings
