Anyone accomplish this with the razr m? Using android file transfer, it's just not being found. I've tried deselecting/selecting usb debugging, rebooting both 'puter (OS X 10.75) and droid, as many other things as I could research and get tips on. I work in media production often - it'd be great to bridge the gap and utilize the droid more in my work.
Supposedly we are to use Android File Transfer but I haven't had any luck.
Apparently, the only thing the Motorola Mac "Drivers" do is help me update to a non-hackable firmware. How convenient.
For music, there's Google Music or DoubleTwist AirSync, also mind that there's an SD Card slot and you can take that out of the phone and plug it in directly if you REALLY need a file transferred.
Otherwise, MTP works only with Windows officially, while USB Mass Storage mode would work perfectly on Mac (taken out in Android 4.1, 4.0 has it though).
Kind of sucks :/ I'm still exploring options, there has to be a better way.

I use parallels desktop for matts util ( root & flash recov.) Restore will not work. But rsdlite does - just choose the xml from matts folder.
Yeah, I'm installing Windows on one of my Macs for RSD... It's too bad they don't have a Unix/Linux version...

I can not get RSD to work on ANY of my machines.....
I have tried on Win7 (32 and 64 Bit) and Windows XP. The only way I have been able to flash is through Ubuntu.
The issue is that now I want to update the radio and that does not work the ubuntu way.
Just wondering if it is me only or if others have the same issue.
I believe I have the correct drivers installed and am running RSD 5.0 but nothing. RSD Recognizes the phone, but when it tries to transfer the files it fails!
NOW, my phone seems to be bricked as it started to transfer the files (Once) and then failed. Now states that there is no radio.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

I did a fair amount of mucking about to get it to recognize files, and it sounds crazy but here is how I had most of my success -
...rename the file to have a space in the name... I can't think of any logical reason why this would make it work better but everytime I put my files in base of C:\ as suggested by most people I got about 30% success rate
but If i made sure I had full access to all users on the file, and it was called say 'update 1.sbf' I could ALWAYS apply it.

Try a different version of RSD. Google your problem/error message. It's a common error.
your problem (at least in win 7) might be caused by UAC.. try navigating to the installation folder ex: c:\program files\motorola\rsd lite\.. right-click on the executable file (SDL.exe), click run as administrator, then try to flash
I have been using Win7 x64 on two different PCs, and flashed dozens of times with no issues. Have you tried a different cable or USB port? You can check in device manager to see if you have a missing or bad driver, but it sounds like something else. Try reinstalling RSD or using a different version.
I found my problem being RSD wouldn't read from a directory with a space in it (users/first last). I moved the files to c:\ and it worked fine.

I'm using 4.9 and my issue is getting it to recognize my phone. I've tried so many different things and nothing seems to be working.
I was also trying to flash the radio.
I had problems with Vista 64. RSD Lite 5.0 wouldn't even detect the sbf, let alone the phone. I tried running it elevated, in compatibility mode, and using dozens of other suggestions (including everything already mentioned in this thread). Simply wouldn't work.
Then I tried it with Windows 7 32-bit, after installing MotoHelper and it seemed to work fine.
What usb setting did you leave your phone on? For me, Windows Media Sync worked well, and it detected the phone right away and had no problems with the radio sbf. I actually went to each usb setting and let it install drivers for all of them just in case, but left it at Windows Media Sync.

I think you have to use version 5 and later for it to work.

I did the same when I first hooked up my phone.. Let it install all the drivers by switching usb modes. Only difference is I flashed in motorola phone portal mode. Sometimes I have to un-check debugging mode then select it again for RSD to recognize it.
Just out of curiosity.. Has anyone got this to work in linux from a virtual windows machine?

Okay I'm using 5.0 now, I have all my drivers updated, I've done everything I can think of and It doesn't even recognize a device.
That sucks man! Sounds like a windows problem.. Is this a laptop or desktop? If it's a desktop, use the usb ports ob the back.. Otherwise, my only suggestion is to completely uninstall anything motorola related, download & run ccleaner to get rid of any leftover files, then try again. If that doesn't work, try a different pc or maybe consider re-formatting. You will not have these issues with a fresh install of windows

You're probably gonna have to try it on a buddy's XP box. (By far I've seen better results overall on XP)
Unfortunately RSD Lite is just as "Diva-like" as Samsung Kies.
Sometimes it has a conflict with a firewall, and other times it has a conflict for no reason at all...
I'm wondering what others file transfer workaround is.
For larger movie files (1-2GB), I have been uploading one by one to Dropbox, then downloading onto my tab. But this is awfully time consuming.
Anyone have a better workaround until File Transfer recognizes the 10.1?
I'm really confused by all these threads about file transfer not working
I have had no problems whatsoever
is it because you are using a mac?
i have file transfer problems, too. trying to transfer a huge file / large number of files via usb and windows file explorer just aborts the transfer after a few minutes without any error message.
currently im using "wifi explorer" fpr transmitting files to my tablet. it's a cool app i've already been using on my android phone, too. with this tool you can access your tablet/phone with a browser (web-interface), once you've started wifi explorer and you're connected to your wifi.
It's not so much so a specifically Mac issue or Windows machine issue, apparently quite a few of the IO tabs just simply cannot or won't be recognized by either OS. I know of this first hand cuz neither my Mac nor Windows 7 ultimate machines see my tab.
Uplinked through my mind
I found out that the computer won't pick up your device if USB Debugging mode is on. After I disabled that and had the KIES drivers installed, Windows picked up the device without any problems.

Yesterday I was able to connect my Tab to my Win XP PC using the USB cable. I was able to transfer files without difficulty. But, some how I must have changed a setting on the Tab and the Tab is no longer recognized by any of my PC's. I think it is a Sync setting that was changed.
Now, when I connect using the USB cable, the PC says " Found New Hardware MTP"
What settiing do I need to change to get the PC to recognize the Tab?
Check under application > development > usb debugging.
Thanks, I found a USB driver on the Acer site. That seems to have solved the problem. But, that driver was not needed yesteray, and I don't know what "MTP" means?

Even my Windows 7 boxes do not recognize the a500 without installing the USB driver from the Acer site. Guess you somehow got lucky
Mine always saw the internal 16gb on my Win7 machine. Before the latest updates, I was able to connect with my Win7 PC with no problem and even go to STORAGES and see my 32gb card. It no longer works now. All I see now is SD which is empty.
Which means I cannot copy anything directly to the Micro SD (external_sd). It worked before the last couple of updates. I'm currently running 4.010.10. Now I have to copy it to the 16 internal from the PC and then use the tablet to copy it to the external_sd.
Acer giveth and taketh away.... bummer.
Edit: And yes ... my debugging is on. Always has been. Stock kernel too.
Anyone figure this out yet?
I can't connect on my Win7-64 PC at all.
My 32 bit laptop will connect, but not to SD card, only internal SD.
Try turning development off when using usb go pc which no need for driver, if development is on then you need driver installed.

i can't get my tab to connect to my mac , ive tried both usb ports, ive tried ticking usb-debugging on and off with no luck. Anyone know whats wrong?
If you are having usb issues go to acers web site and go to the drivers and download section for the iconia a500. make sure you look under the honeycomb 3.0 downloads and not the 3.1. as the drivers are not listed under 3.1. download the drivers to your pc (not your tablet)and install. it is an 89 megabyte file so I am sure it has the drivers for everyone in it.
Alos if you are ojn honeycomb 3.0 make sure you get the wi-fi unpate as well while you are there it fixes lots of wi-fi problems.
Remember to thanks if I have helped you.
Thanks for the quick reply in the drivers package There is none for mac and on my fascinate it connects without problem and i never instaled any drivers
Chuban7, Hi well I am not a mac person but I did look around the net a bit and from what I see there are not usb drivers persay for android for mac. but what i have found is there are several companies who mac sync software that connects android to mac. One site to check out is http://www.salling.com/MediaSync/mac/ they have free versions of thier software to use. Give it a try. but there are many other venders of mac to android sync software. seems only way from what I read cant find usb drivers anywhere for ya for any android device.
You can also look through the android market for a free program called"auto mount your sd card" supose to work with mac but I dont know as I dont have a mac
MY personal choice is a program also free on market called "software data cable" again suppose to work with macs and pc's it is completely wireless so no usb cable needed to transfere files so in theory then no usb drivers needed either.
You can also use a program called dropbox allso free it works great just drop files into the dropbox folder and then once they upload go open dropbox on your android and bingo there ya go thier is your files. works in reverse too for android to computer.
Only thing I can figure is that apple hates android and between them and microsoft are tring to run android into the ground so it would stand to reason if you hated a compeating vendor why would you make it easy for them to run thier devices on your software. There is a reason apples Ipod/pad stuff works and others dont apple dont want you to buy android lol.
Just my little conspericy theory stuff good luck hope any of this helps you.
I have the same issue with Linux so it's not a Mac issue. I can plug my Android phone in and it mounts and show up as a USB device that I can then take a file manager and copy/paste/delete files. I use this all the time to transfer files to my phones sd card. Neither the A100 or the A500 will mount as a drive on my Linux machine. I like them but that is pretty much a deal breaker to me.

Somehow I feel very doubtful that your Linux OS cannot be set up to mount the a500 as a USB storage device. My Linux skills are rather rusty and outdated, however - so I could be wrong. Can you emulate a stripped down version of windows from your Linux system to get around this?
I can vouch for using software data cable (free app from AM).
Works perfectly with my iMac and should do with PC, since it essentially opens an FTP port on the Iconia (port 8888 by default) that can be accessed by any FTP client on the computer (I use Cyberduck on Mac, FireFTP plugin for Firefox works on all OS's).
If you are rooted, check root access in the app settings to get into the root, and find /mnt/external_SD for the add-on card. It is probably smartest not to leave the root access on all of the time unless you really need it as there is abundant opportunity to create havoc accidentally

I didn't say it couldn't be done, I just think that it's strange and wrong to make an Android device dependent on having Windows. Yes I suppose I could install Windows in a Vm but I won't.
Using Google (pun intended) I found a fairly simple solution. It's not plug-n-play but is very doable even by an non techie.
There are also some ways of access the Tab file system using a browser and Wifi

Nice app thanks, didn't show up when searching for FTP servers. ;(
The only minor issue I see is that at 1st glance it appears that you don't have access to the external_sd card unless Rooted.
Did work better than any of the other FTP servers I have tried.
I have a quick question to everyone who has the TF300T and Linux. Have you been able to plug in the tablet directly in Linux (Ubuntu)and open the filesystem to transfer files? it seems that in windows I need to have that Asus Sync program, but i would rather not use a program. I would imagine it would be a plug and play situation.
I would appreciate to read how to go around that.
Thank you in advance.

I have windows and it is plug and play for me. I never downloaded the ASUS Sync program. I just plugged it in and it recognized the internal sdcard with no problems at all.
I'm on windows and i've never needed to use the asus sync program. I just connect my tablet to the computer and it pops up as a usb mass storage device.
Interesting. I am at work now and we are using Vista. I have it plugged in and on the device it says "Connected as a media device" and then nothing comes up. Also i have that Asus Sync icon in the notification area
I use Windows 7 Enterprise at home and it works for me
I don't have a issue with this at home.
Once I plug it in, a USB menu opens and verifies that it found a new device.
The issue you may be having is with in Vista itself.
I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise, and I can view all the files on my Asus, I don't even have Root yet. That whole .26 thing!
I just fired up a Ubuntu system at work to try to get around the issues with ADB on a Windows 7 64 bit system, so I can try to downgrade it to .17, root, load root keeper, then try the OTA update to .26. Have not quite got there yet though.
So far this has all been a complete pain on Windows, the ADB software comes to a screeching halt do to a Java issue, that no one can see to correct on my O.S.
Would be nice if some one just put out a 1 click Root app like I had on my DrodX!

i think i could depend on the drivers.
but dont expect an USB drive to appear as an HD or removable device, as it is MTP, you have to access the files via the DEVICE ICON that appears on the computer folder.
i dont know if its the same on vista. but as win 7 is Vista + it shouldn't be too different.

Ubuntu user here.
Yes I was/am able to get it connected and able to get files on it but not without some extra work.
I mostly followed the following site and changed some of the names he gave his phone into TF300.
(being a new user I am not able to post url links and am not able to post in de development site yet...damn)
Do a google search on: omg ubuntu android usb drive
and the first hit is the site.
After having done that, all it takes to have it seen as a drive is enter <android-connect> into a terminal. (and <android-disconnect> to shut off cleanly).
It's only seeing the sdcard, not / (hoped for an easy root access ).

You need the drivers for a windows machine, but none needed for the mac. Have you tried a different port? The cable that came with the Nexus?
