not sure if this is an error, or has not been set up yet. lmk a way to make my usb otg work.:fingers-crossed:
Did it used to work on stock? Because many people had to flash a custom ROM and kernel to get their OTG devices to work on 4.2.2
If you use Nexus Media Importer try to open the application, plug your USB and reboot the device.
Same here, Nexus media importer working but no mouse support.
I have no problem with mouse o 4.3. Also usb stick working fine with app StickMount from Play Store

What OS on the laptop?
Are you using the OEM battery USB cable?
I'm running W7 and used the USB cable that comes off the charger and it detected fine. Do a shutdown/restart on the laptop and the same on the N7.
If it's a mac you need a specific download for it. Look through the nexus 7 manual in Google books for what you need.

I might be wrong, but I don't think Windows XP supports the MTP protocol that the Nexus 7 uses (no more Mass Storage Driver).
I think you might be able to get XP to see your Nexus by downloading the software package referenced at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19153
If you haven't already found a fix, a simple restart of my computer always fixes it for me. My galaxy nexus, transformer prime, and nexus 7 all have had this happen for me and I just reboot to fix it

you coudl also change the nexus from mtp to ptp..
MTP on window XP-SP3
For window XP check your Window Media Player version. If it's version 9 or older, MTP is NOT supported.
You can update Window Media Player to version 11 (some say that 10 would do it too, but I tried 11 and
it worked for me). This will enable winXP-SP3 to support MTP. This download is available directly from
MS or on Cnet.
Good luck
Thank you will test now will report back later

MTP on window XP-SP3
It worked for me. After I installed WMP 11, my N7 showed up in My Computer and I could drag/drop files to/from it.
I used the download from CNET at
http://download.cnet.com/windows-media-player/?tag=contentMain;contentBody;1d
You may also have a "stale" already installed USB driver for the N7 that was not correct in
which case you'll have to muck with the "Device Manager" (Control Panel->Sys->Hardware->DeviceManager)
to remove or update the driver for the N7. Make sure you know which driver is the N7, you don't want to remove
drivers for other devices that are working for you.
Good luck

I was about to post the very link that KUNITZ22 just posted. Just in case you don't know the developers forum is very strictly policed in terms of what can be posted. So if you want to start a thread with a query about it you are best off doing it in here (Nexus 7 Q&A)
And use search next time please...

USB OTG
How to enable USB OTG?
I flashed over a CM10 Kang which says that enables USB OTG.
But I cant get a USB to connect.
I have a rooted device with superSU and I am using StickMount app.
You think the OTG cable could be damaged or something?
Regards

It's easy, the only stinky part is you have to wipe your Nexus in order to unlock the bootloader (it's a security measure). The instructions are very easy to follow, but if you've never done anything like it you will have to spend a lot of time downloading various things like the Android SDK. Expect to spend at least an hour if you're a total newbie.

All I can tell you is that I rooted, installed [Root] StickMount from the market, plugged in my OTG cable from Newegg with a Fat formatted stick plugged in. It offered to open StickMount, I said yes. SuperSU asked to allow root, I said yes. StickMount mounted it (at a strange path under /sdcard/usbmount or something) and I was able to browse to it with ES File Explorer.
Should be that simple. Tap the notification to unmount and unplug it.

If you are still looking for a way to use USB devices, now there's a app on the Google play store to use without rooting your Nexus 7.
It's called "Nexus Media Importer" from HomeySoft
Here's the link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5ob21leXNvZnQubmV4dXN1c2IuaW1wb3J0ZXIiXQ..
ed.:
NON-ROOTED
Like suloch said "Nexus Media Importer" from HomeySoft works!
Tried it with a 32GB FAT USB-Stick, working good.
Couldn't find out how to show all data, but it showed me Pics, Video, Audio and Docs.
I was able to play a movie from the stick and there is an option for copying it to internal storage.
You can also unmount within the app
It didnt show the stick in ES Explorer...
Ohh, it seems you cant copy something from the Nexus7 to the USB-Stick :cyclops:
Thats stupid!
As Stupid as having no HDMI out...
But maybe the app for the USB-Stick will evolve...

Yeah, I am also impressed by this wonderful app. It once provided the similar solution on the issue of my gadget : http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GLKI258
I believe you will be agree with me after a try.
The USB OTG feature is ROM-side or Kernel-side feature ?
Right now I'm running PA 2.54 with M-Kernel Plus a11 and did the "Jay's Recipe for Buttery Goodness" .
Before this I was purelly 4.1.2 stock and USB OTG was working.I used to connect a flash drive and an external 1 TB HDD and access (read-only) the data via an app. called Nexus Media Importer and even trough ES File Explorer too.
Now it doesn't work anymore. The flash drive has a red light on it which blinks and now when I attach it it doesn't even turn On anymore. It used to do on Stock.
It has been stated countless times that Stickmount does not work with 4.2...That is until today when Stickmount was updated by the dev. It works now with today's update.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that PA 2.54 is based on 4.1.2 , so it's the same base I had when I was stock.
Today after trying Nexus Media Importer and ES File Explorer, I tried Stickmount too.
I'm afraid you didn't understood my question.
Hi guys, I am having trouble using the USB tether feature on my I9505, it is fully stock on 4.3 on build number MK8. All the USB drivers and Kies 3 are installed on my Windows 7 32bit laptop and i can see my device when i go to "Computer". I am using the original cable that came with my S4 and the USB tether is still not working, even the Wi-Fi hotspot is not working unless i use an app called "FoxFi". Does anyone have any idea how i can get the USB tether to work? I've tried using apps called "PdaNet+" and "EasyTether" and still nothing.
Year,..

Try flashing another kernel I recommend Semaphore http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/orig-development/kernel-semaphore-n4-2-2-2-t2232898
delete every nexus / adb related driver and use universal naked driver
(you might need to turn off driver signature checking)
