USB Tether - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I am having trouble using the USB tether feature on my I9505, it is fully stock on 4.3 on build number MK8. All the USB drivers and Kies 3 are installed on my Windows 7 32bit laptop and i can see my device when i go to "Computer". I am using the original cable that came with my S4 and the USB tether is still not working, even the Wi-Fi hotspot is not working unless i use an app called "FoxFi". Does anyone have any idea how i can get the USB tether to work? I've tried using apps called "PdaNet+" and "EasyTether" and still nothing.

Year,..
i have this problem, too..
i have windows 7 - 64 bit,..
and all usb drivers does not work
or detected device..
please, help us..

Do you have multiple android devices installed? I have had the same issue when I tried to install drivers for my p6800. Deinstalled htc software AND drivers, then tried again, worked perfectly.
No, no other drivers. I recently reformated my laptop and still a no go. Whatever items do install it allows me to access both external and internal drives, but those 2 items dont and just get "drivers not installed"

Nexus 7 doesn't get detected on my laptop

What OS on the laptop?
Are you using the OEM battery USB cable?
I'm running W7 and used the USB cable that comes off the charger and it detected fine. Do a shutdown/restart on the laptop and the same on the N7.
If it's a mac you need a specific download for it. Look through the nexus 7 manual in Google books for what you need.

Windows XP and yes I'm using OEM cable

I might be wrong, but I don't think Windows XP supports the MTP protocol that the Nexus 7 uses (no more Mass Storage Driver).
I think you might be able to get XP to see your Nexus by downloading the software package referenced at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19153
If you haven't already found a fix, a simple restart of my computer always fixes it for me. My galaxy nexus, transformer prime, and nexus 7 all have had this happen for me and I just reboot to fix it

you coudl also change the nexus from mtp to ptp..
MTP on window XP-SP3
For window XP check your Window Media Player version. If it's version 9 or older, MTP is NOT supported.
You can update Window Media Player to version 11 (some say that 10 would do it too, but I tried 11 and
it worked for me). This will enable winXP-SP3 to support MTP. This download is available directly from
MS or on Cnet.
Good luck
Thank you will test now will report back later

Doesn't work I installed mp11 didn't work install mtp didn't work. Rebooted my nexus 7 and laptop didn't work. It works when I'm recovery because it detects it but only installs the drivers and fails

MTP on window XP-SP3
It worked for me. After I installed WMP 11, my N7 showed up in My Computer and I could drag/drop files to/from it.
I used the download from CNET at
http://download.cnet.com/windows-media-player/?tag=contentMain;contentBody;1d
You may also have a "stale" already installed USB driver for the N7 that was not correct in
which case you'll have to muck with the "Device Manager" (Control Panel->Sys->Hardware->DeviceManager)
to remove or update the driver for the N7. Make sure you know which driver is the N7, you don't want to remove
drivers for other devices that are working for you.
Good luck

[Q]MTP not detecting on laptop

Hi guys, I have my N4 for about a month now but since I got it I never got MTP to detect on my laptop. I was only transferring my files through PTP(camera mode) and bluetooth so far. Now I want to transfer my Band road backup and flash custom roms so that would require me to browser through the folders on the laptop.
PTP mode only works when USB debugging is ticked though. And MTP is nowhere near. When using PTP I have to manually move the files to correct folders after disconnecting the phone from pc.
I have rooted, unlocked so i think drivers are all fine right?
I thought about Wifi transfer and such but I have limited bandwidth here and only have one laptop to try.

Reinstall drivers from the Nexus 4 toolkit. Go in to device manager and see if it says "Galaxy Nexus ADB Interface" (yes Galaxy Nexus). If it does, then enable USB debugging. It will show up.
Yep, unload and reinstall the driver.

The problem for me was Windows media player, i had to install that to be able to connect my nexus 4 through MTP to my computer.
Dont know if it helps for you, but you can try it!
What os is your laptop running? if XP then search for mtp xp fix.
Got it working. yay! Thanks guys!

[Q] USB Connection

Hey guys,
I don't know if this has been asked already, and if it has I apologize for that, but judging by the title you can already assume what issue I have. When I connect my Galaxy S4 i337 to my laptop running Windows 8.1 (I'm not sure if it's RT or not), it keeps saying that my USB device is not recognized. I've tried:
- uninstalling the Samsung drivers then reinstalling them
- uninstalling Kies and drivers, then reinstalling Kies to see if it would recognize and automatically download the drivers
- completely turning off my laptop, removing the battery for 3 minutes
- different USB ports (all 3)
- connect it to the computer with USB debugging on and off
Can anyone help?
Try this, you also have to allow unsigned drivers

Now everything is connected well, as in my laptop recognizes it, but it doesn't show up on the Devices and Drivers section so I can explore the phone via my pc. Also autoplay doesn't pop up.

[HELP NEEDED] Tethering Nexus 4 to Windows XP.

Hello I tried using the USB Tethering option on my Nexus to tether it to my Windows XP PC since it doesnt have a WiFi Adapter. I installed the RNDIS Module Driver by using the tetherxp.inf file from Google's Support Page. Since it didnt work I had to look up what I had to do and many said that I have edit the tetherxp.inf device id to match my Nexus 4's ID, I did it and I managed to install it and finally got the RNDIS detected however I get an error in Windows that it cannot start the device (Code 10) reinstalling the driver doesn't work. I tried ActiveSync but it only works in Windows 2000. Help please?!
