Hey guys, I just lost my phone and got an htc magic phone from a friend and i would like to download certain apps, but some of them require android 2.1 OS or higher..
is there any way to upgrade the OS from 1.5 to ≥ 2.1? If anyone knows, please post a step by step procedure for the upgrade..
the specs of my htc magic are:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT - 1.33.0009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD - 12
RADIO - 3.22.20.17

Step one, root.
Step two, custom recovery
Step three, install a rom you like
On android 1.5, universal androot is an easy app to gain root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598
An old version of rom manager could be used for a custom recovery. If it refuses to work (android 1.5 is very old..) you could install it manually, or use another app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=acr.recovery.installation.utility
For a custom rom, my biased recommendation for a 32a device like yours is my cm7 rom. Find it it my signature

You are good if you follow the above instructions from tvall.
You can download an old version of Rom Manager from here:
http://www.4shared.com/android/87Z5gzSF/comkoushikduttarommanager.html
tvall, after i flashed the cm7 rom and kernel, then reboot, my htc magic is just stuck at the cm7 animation loop..
any ideas why and/or how to fix this ?
Edit: nevermind, i just skipped the wipe cache, wipe/factory reset and wipe dalvik cache steps before flashing.. now its up and running! thanks heaps tvall!
By the way, that old rom manager doesn't work on my poor old htc magic. I followed some youtube video on how to do flash recovery using RA's recovery instead and that seems to work lol.
though now im stuck without internet access? (no data from network provider)
Check apn settings
Sent from my Evo V 4G using Tapatalk 2
the apn settings seem fine.
I just found out my internet only works if i tick both "data enabled" and "international/national data roaming". im not overseas or anything
is this normal? will i get charged more for using data?

im running my rooted mytouch 3g with currently cyanogen mod 5.8....which is android 2.1 update 1 i beleive....how do i run this or any other froyo roms....do i just flash it or do something else please help.....

You should be able to download the ROM you want to use (make sure its compatible with your phone), copy the file (will be a .zip) to your SD card, go into recovery (home+power), select update from .zip, and then select the file from your SD card. Some of the older recoveries require that you rename the .zip file to update.zip before you can flash it.

Are you asking how do you run the rom??? Or are you asking how you update to a newer rom??? I'm really confused...
I'm confused as well. I suggest a nandroid backup before u do anything. Perhaps a backup phone

what im asking is well when i did the one click root program it rooted my phone and then i installed the clockword rom manager with recovery now thats all i did to it no updated for spl or anything...do you guys think i should do something else before i update this to the cyanogen rom froyo rom?? or just wipe and backup and flash??
Suggest amonra new recovery first off. There is a new radio 2.22.23.02 if its compatible with your spl. Then nandroid backup always. Then flash new Rom
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Easy with flashing the radio, you could brick your phone that way. You shouldn't need to do anything but flash the ROM, unless you've got a board requiring the EBI1 kernel which should be available with the CM ROM. Go into fastboot using (power+back) and post that information here.

Apologies in advance if this issue has been raised elsewhere, but my search has proved fruitless. So here goes with my problem.....
I've followed the unlockr how to root procedure and clicked on the flashrec apk file. It then proceeds to tells me I have a 32A when I have the spec as below;
Sapphire pvt 32B ENG S-OFF
HBOOT - 1.33.2010(SAPP10000)
RADIO - 3.22.20.17
JUNE 2 2009 17:27:03
CPLD - 10
Could someone please explain what is going on and if I should be using the 6.2G or the 6.2H.
Cheers for any help.
Provide ALL fastboot info
Hi, is this what was missing CPLD -10?
Yes...
You have the 32B board... but using the 32A combo.
You should change the radio and leave the spl be.
Then flash a G version of the recovery..
Flash a 32B rom... and you should be on your way.
Download fastboot commander from my signature (not the magic version, it's for 32A).
Flash this radio: http://rapidshare.com/files/455782324/2.22.19.26I.img
And flash this recovery: http://rapidshare.com/files/387932919/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
Leave the spl/hboot as it is...
Reboot into recovery and flash a rom for the 32B board... find one in the development section.
Excellent advise - thanks very much for your very helpful and detailed reply.
The range of roms is so extensive I'm confused as to what to go for - if I may, is there one in particular you can recommend for stability/reliability?

Thanks for your reply, I actually flashed froyoredux 1.9.5 before I read it - how does this rom compare with your recommendation? I noticed quite a bit of lag, but that could well be down to my old magic!
Couldn't tell you. I never really got ROM happy since most that I tried ran like crap. CM 5.0.8 was about the best daily driver I could find.

I'm starting to see what you mean, things have got really slooooow on my phone. Quality always beats style.
Update: Did as you recommended and things are back to normal, good speed and stability, like old 1.5.
By the way, if I was to go for a rom such as ginger yoshi, would I need to change my radio once again to 2.22.28.25?
Changed the radio to 2.22.27.08 and tried a couple of more recent roms such as ginger yoshi and CyanogenMod 7 without success - at least I think they failed as the phone seemed stuck on the htc magic screen.(maybe I didn't wait long enough for it to boot up).
Am I doing something wrong or being simply impatient?
Mumilover,
Out of curiousity/stupidity (phones not valuable so can afford to take risks with it) and in pursuit of an almost totally 'force close free' phone I've changed the hboot to 1.33.0013d and the radio to 2.22.27.08.
I'm happy with the ability to flash more advanced roms, but not happy with the fact (didn't realise I'd turn my phone into a s-on!) that I've made your brilliant fastboot commander tool virtually redundant!
Is there another way to get back to the original set up? Hope you don't mind me asking by the way, as I know your advise was to leave the spl alone!
The first post on the ginger yoshi thread says you'll need to change you're radio to 2.22.28.25 or 27.08. Also, you'll need to change your SPL. (That is, if it hasn't changed from what it was according to your first post.) Hope this helped
update: scratch, that. apparently you've solved your problem already. sorry for not reading ahead >.<
Hi guys,
I'm really desperate because since weeks I'm searching for a Step-By-Step tutorial with links to the needed files to flash a current cyanogen rom (6.x) to a friends HTC Magic 32b (german vodafone rom)
I think this is the information you need:
Sapphire PVT 32b SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT - 1.33.0007 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.19.261
Jul 31 2009, 15:49:25
The current os-version is 1.6
Could anyone PLEASE help me and tell me what to do? In any tutorial I found before, there's something I don't understand or doesn't work with my configuration or a broken link.
Regards
A planless man
Maybe a link to the rom u are trying to install? What u have done thus far? Are u rooted? Ect.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA Premium App
Thank you for your fast answer.
It's not rooted, and I don't look for a special rom - but it should be a cyanogen 6.x
My problem is, that there's something in each tutorial I find, that I don't understand or is missing.
I so I don't start with it because I don't want to brick the Magic.
Maybe you know a "complete" tutorial and give me the link - I'll check it and we could discuss the point that are not clear.
Look at my guide..check my signature...
It should be all you need to root and get custom recovery.
The rest is rather simple and there are like 1000 guides on it..
Check out his guide and post your questions/concerns and ill try to help. At least by tomorrow night I'll be home with my PC

OK - so far so good.
What I understand is, that I have to do Step 1,2,3,4,5 and 7.
Now I want to flash this image: http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/dream/update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip
After that I want to flash the tiny google tools:
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed.zip
What I would do now is:
1. Copy both files to sdcard
2. Start magic with power + volume down
3. Perform Full sweep
4. Apply update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip
5. Apply gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed.zip
Is that correct or am I wrong again?
Did u do the steps to gain root? Meaning u are rooted and have a custom recovery? What recovery do u have? What radio/hboot do u have now? What do u mean by full sweep? Volume down and power is fastboot mode not recovery mode right? Do u have sdk set up on your PC?
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA Premium App
I didn't do anything - at the moment I try to understand.
I followed the Link Magic: 4 easy steps ROOT guide in mumilover's signature.
OK fastboot was wrong, I meant recovery mode
A SDK is not needed as far as I understood mumilover
Ok. U are correct. I read it. Couldn't see his sign from xda app on my phone. I would flash the engineering spl too. Just me. But yes. Do all that and u will be good to go. Before u go flashing cm and gapps make a nandroid backup from recovery first. Then wipe everything from recovery and flash away

OK, I'll try all that this weekend and hope it works.
Thank you mumilover, Thank you johnson8cyl.
I'll post the result in this thread
Great !!!!!!
I tried yesterday evening and it worked.
I didn't flash cyanogen 6.1 because the zip-file was corrupt - but I switched to SuperFroyo and it runs and runs and runs ....
Again: Thank you for your great support!
Hi all first post Cant seem to find the answer after searching around on other post.
I was running CM 6.1 Fine. They droped HTC Magic so I wanted to try Ginger yoshi 1.0 RC7.1
I installed rom then updated radio. The phone my be boot-looping I don't. I have re flashed it several times. One time it got stuck on HTC screen other time it got stuck on splash screen one other time it was black with back light still on.

Hboot 1.33.0013

Thanks so much for takeing the time to read my post I guess I will try 7.0 see if that works I think its the radio
Same thing with 6.x It looks like I need to upgrade my radio to 3.x I guess I will try in the morning. The Ginger yoshi splash screen is as far as I can get it freezes up after about 30 secs on that
From my under standing the 3.* radios were for rodgers (canada) so if you in us I don't think that will fix. You might just wipe and nandroid your previous and see if that works. I had I hard time installing yoshi the first time cause of I think sd card issues the stock sd card sucks being class 2. If you get cm 6.1 working from nandroid restore you might try to run yoshi rom from rom manager that's only way I could get it to install. And first boot with yoshi does take forever.

Yes, I believe you will need to change your radio to a 3.22 radio and you will also need an SPL 1.33.2009 or 1.33.2010 since you have the 32a board. Don't forget to flash the 32a kernel. It's also in Yoshi's Mediafire folder.
I think (could be wrong, confirmation anyone?) I remember reading somewhere that the 2.22 radios we're specific and that you might run into problems flashing other radios. (no, seriously. Wrong radios could very well brick your magic) Tread carefully, my friend.
Also, I ran into problems with both the 7.1 and the 7.1.1 RC. Wifi didn't work for both roms so I wen't back to RC 7.
Don't flash any radio yet! Do you have a headphone jack on your phone? If you do then flashing the 3.xx radio is a bad idea!

Well i restored to cm 6.1
Used rommanager to install 7.1.1 Wiped then rebooted into nana and used 32a kernel.zip I all so run boot-cm_2635.11_ds_32a-oc-uv-xtra-ram-fp-020711
If I dont run the 32a kernel.zip it will bootloop on htc my touch 3g screen.
I run 32a kernel.zip located in Yoshi's Mediafire folder and it locks up on ginger yoshi splash screen
Same way with 7.1 and 6.5 any suggestions I do have 3.5 jack but I dont have the fender
Since I re flashed I will include all stuff from fast boot.

I was reading 7.1.1 is a wifi fix but from the post above your stateing its still broken is that right?
I updated to 1.33.2010 then tryed to install rc7.1.1 stuck on mytouch 3g screen
Tryed to use nana backup to cm 6.1 black screen with back light on so Im at a loss I guess I download cm 6.1 rom and try that or downgrade spl
Sorry dumb question

If you have the mytouch 3g 1.2 (the one with the headphone jack) then you need a 32b kernel without the 2708 ramhack. And you should have the 1.33.0013 spl and a 2.xx radio. On the yoshi thread I think they have a link to a kernel for us.
And I would suggest using ezgingerbread or cos-ds instead. Ezginger is fast and light. Cos has cm stuff

I think there may be issues with the 7.1(shame as 7 is blinding), so I'm sticking with the excellent rc7 for the moment(severe case of if it ain't broke don't fix it!). I had the right radio etc and still got the half hour non boot, then fc after wizard set up, then blank screen.
As with the rest of ginger yoshi's, 2.22.27.08 or 2.22.28.05 radio and the 1.33.0013 or 1.33.0013d spl are mandatory for them to work.
Having the same problem on rc 7.1 && 7.1.1
Except I'm on a 32b SPL 1.33.0013d and I've tried both 27.08 and 28.25 S
Still stuck on Green Splash >______<"
so this is what happend i had my g2 rooted with cm7 i needed to unroot it cuz my power button broke so i followed the guide on here http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/01/how-to-unroot-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision/
everything seemed to work fine but when i flashed the stock PCIMG.zip and rebooted i had s-on and still cm7 with clockwork recovery so i tried to root turn s-off again it said exec format error
i have a similar issue, any help would be great
EDIT:i did hear that that sometimes occurs if the hboot file you use during the root isn't compatible with the rom being used causing the exec format error...but i wouldn't know for fact
I have the exact same problem. I am relatively new at this stuff, so if it doesn't make any sense, please tell me.
I rooted my HTC Desire Z by using fr3vo. This worked like a charm and I installed CyanogenMod 7. But then I tried to unroot, and now I'm stuck with CyanogenMod 7 en S-ON. I guess something went wrong because there are all kinds of different roms etc. for the HTC Desire Z/Vision/T-Mobile G2 (one phone, 3 different names) and I probably used the wrong PC10IMG.zip file. When I try to install different ROMs, they all end up in a start-up loop and I'm forced to recover to my latest CyanogenMod back-up. Does someone have an idea how to get from this situation to an unrooted HTC Desire Z again? I'm afraid I didn't backup my phone with clockwork before I installed CyanogenMod...

I think when people mess up unrooting, what they have to do is temp root, so they can downgrade.

But I still have root, that's not the issue. Because S-OFF got switched to S-ON again (I still don't know how that happened), I can't flash another ROM. So downgrading won't work.
