well here it goes...my my touch has had this problem for about a week now
if i plug in the usb cable into my phone it will charge but it will act as if it is not connected to a computer and it wont give me the choice to mount my sdcard
also when this first occurred i tryed plugging in my headphone adapter and it did not work at all! but then yesterday it started to work if i plugged in my head phone adapter twice in a row then BOOM it works.....but my usb cable still doesn't work ive even went into amon ra recovery and toggled the usb and still it will not mount the sd card....can someone tell me whats wrong here? thank you in advance
also if i wasn't clear enough please feel free to ask questions because i am stuck on a 1.6 stock ROM and i miss hero thankyouagain
Mine has the same problem, I'm waiting for the replacement to get here.
do you know the last thing you did before it stopped working?
Similar Problems -- Am I screwed?
I have a similar problem. I don't know exactly what happened before the problem started (I'll detail my best guesses in a sec.)
Here's what's happening:
* There's no USB connectivity -- not on Mac OS X (10.6) nor on Windows XP. I don't ever get the USB icon nor the chance to mount the phone as a drive.
* It drains the battery realllllllly fast -- my 1500mAH batter went from 100% to 15% in 20 minutes. With the screen off. Bluetooth and WiFi were both off.
* It charges VERYYYY slowly. 2+ hours on the DC charger in the car did not get me a full charge. The LED thatused to indicate charging does not light up anymore when plugged in.
* It is very hot to the touch. At one point Battery Life Widget was showing a temp of 108F.
* Re-installing CyanogenMod 4.2.9.1 does not fix the problem, nor does rolling back to 4.2.8.1
* I've tried several wipes and that did not work either.
The last things I can think that I did before the problem occured:
* I accidently plugged in the mini-usb cord that goes to an AC adapter on a CallPod instead of into the callpod adapter (i.e., it was plugged into the cord that goes to the wall.) This was for about 5 seconds before I realized the mistake.
* I had installed CyanogenMod 4.2.9.1 the day before.
* I had installed and deleted a number of sill games and apps: Fat Cheese, Dialify, and a few others I can't recall.
Without an ability to get a USB connection, I can't use Terminal to try save files to the SD. That means I can't (as far as I know) unroot it right now. But, I'd sure like to try...
Does anybody have any helpful ideas or insights?
Thanks in advance,
jim
If your computer has a Bluetooth dongle, you can transfer files back and fourth to your phone, or just get a cheap card reader off ebay or Amazon.

Is a dongle required? I should be able to piggyback on to the Mac's built in Bluetooth for the mouse and keyboard, I think.
Any ideas what I might have done?
Thanks,
Jim
Yea if it has built in BT that should work, as long as you got somekind of pairing and file transfer program on your mac. The are a couple of free Bluetooth apps in the market you can use for swapping.
Well my usb went out when it was connected to my pc and the motherboard blew. The phone immediatly went black when it happened. I thought at first I fried the phone too. It still charges but any computer won't see a connection and the phone won't ask to mount. Its a hardware issue I guess, I tried several ways to get access to the phone via usb and failed.
so what should i do? send it to t mobile?...or call htc?......its unlocked and im using it on att.....i installed dwangs 1.6 and it stoped working
I successfully unrooted then applied the upgrade to 1.6. She's still hot, quick to discharge, slow to charge, and can't see the data connection via USB...she's going back to the retailer.
Now, I just hope that the Nexus One is real and out real soon.
Jim
@jkearns you could have a faulty battery.
@glendawg I don't know at this point since the phone is second hand. I doubt T-mo will do anything. Try htc see if the could offer a repair solution.
well now my acceleromiter took a ****.....
I just took one too, I feel alot better now.
Mytouch 3g
I have the same problem with my touch gets hot, but also when I remove the battery and plug the charger still get hot so I think is a hardware issue.
And I know for fact that some USB cords only charge your phone and no work with the computer, if you want to sync something, try an other USB cable
im having the same usb problem with my 32b but it comes and goes sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt so my question is should i take it in and have them give me the 32a version since tmobile doesnt carry the 32b anymore? is it that much better and is it easy to root like the 32b? sorry i dont mean to steal this thread but i just thought it would be pointless to open a new one about the same topic.
So I just got done with tmobile and there gonna send me a new mytouch 1.2 so im pretty exited I just have to run stock 1.6 for a couple days while it gets here and I forgot how much worse stock is

Hi All,
I've exactly same issue as "jkearns" outlines. It used to connect via USB and showed charging (very hot during charging though) but not anymore. I think I accidently got updated to 2.2.3 and that probably contributed the problem. I could perhaps stay on 2.2.3 but battery drains like hell (about 20 min life). Any idea to resolve this? Thanks in advance fellows.
Sorry guys actually I am not a wp7 user but my friend who owns a HTC Surround ATT Version T8788 insisted to ask me for help on his phone. His phone has a little heart-shaped icon over the battery bar which i believed that it is battery save mode for htc wp7 phone based on my research. I do actually did all possible ways to get rid of this problem but still it cannot be resolved.
What I did:
1: I tried to charge the phone (via pc usb cable and adapter) in long term but it failed, in contrast the phone would switch on and off rapidly. My Zune and PC cannot detect the phone via pc usb cable.
2: I pressed on the settings mode in order to try to disable the battery save mode but when I was getting in there it freeze for a while and it popped out to the main home screen. It did not allow me to get into the settings mode every time unfortunately. Same goes to any other apps and modes in the phone.
3: I failed to get into recovery mode since there has not much battery left. The purpose I did so is because I wanted to try to do a factory reset over the phone.
4: I tried pulling out and in the battery for 30seconds but still not gonna switch on the phone unless it is charging (but still i face the problem on (1) while charging).
5: I bought a new battery which i believed it has at least 50% of the battery life in it but it is still not allowing me to get into settings mode to disable the battery save mode. Not just settings mode but other apps and modes as well.
My apology again because I really lack of idea on resolving my friend's phone so the only way I can do now is to post this thread in htc surround ATT Version T8788 xda forum. Lastly, I do appreciate someone who can help out to solve this. Million thanks for any of your reply and co-operations.

1. Are you using OEM cable? No adapter should be required, if you are using a different cable pc might not acknowledge phone.
2. How are you accessing settings? Settings can be accessed from "Settings" app on app list; swipe to left, swipe up, tap to open.
3. ?
4. See 1., also try charging @ wall outlet it will charge much facter than through USB, again OEM cable recommended.
5. I do not think that batteries com with 50% charge. I could be wrong but when I purched my device it had only a residual charge ( enough to boot and make a few short calls).
If low battery charge is issue you should also receive message "Battery Critically Low" upon boot. If you cannot access any apps once booted and icon is still appearing over battery you do not have enough of a charge. If your only option is to charge though pc give it plenty of time it should chare even if not using recommended cable. Charging will be indicated by flashing red LED. Turning off your screen should speed up the process (it will take several hours plugged in to USB).
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your response and patience! Actually i just resolved the phone problem Monday ago.

Hello,
I know, there are several threads about this issue, and I checked them all, tried all what they wrote, still nothing changed.
Yesterday I've installed KitKat on my mobile. I've tested it for an hour than installed CM 10.1.3 back. At first, I had no Wi-fi, neither for second try. I read that I need to flash a modem.zip to fix that. So I did that, reinstalled CM again and on system reboot, my phone didn't turn back on.
I doubt its battery issue cause it was on charger and was around 74% (after I couldn't do anything, I left my Nexus on charge whole night, but nothing changed).
The red light appears when the phone is plugged and I press the buttons for 15/60 secs, than fades after few seconds.
Have you got any idea? I can't enter recovery, nothing at all.
After trying every solution - and when I say every, I mean that all possibilities found over the whole internet - the only thing I could do is giving a call Google support. Since I bought my phone in SF, my warranty is up only there (and I live in Hungary).
Luckily, they send me a new one, but only to an US address, else I should call LG for help.
About the issue:
the red light - also called as the red light of death - is a known Android bug. The OS it self lowers the battery's strength, so the phone gets a very few energy which causes that you are not able to turn on the device. When I mentioned this red light thingy to the support, she only said "ahh, that..." and asked me if I want a new Nexus 4 or I want my money back.
Sounds like your phone is bricked.
Generally Google/LG is fine with rooted phones, at least in my case. I'd give It back and get a new phone.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
So what you say is that after you flashed the Modem fix zip your phone went into red light mode?
Maybe you flashed a wrong zip file, which bricked your device? What zip file did you flash?
I fixed mine. You must be plugged in to a charger. Turn off. Which it should be already. Then press power button for long enough go the red light to turn green. Then yank off the USB. The phone thinks its out of juice. It is and does happen. But I got mine working this way. Timing is key.

leave it on the charger for a while.
but, the only 100% method to get your phone back is to take the back off, remove the battery, then plug the battery back in. the "resets" your battery. this would be a normal battery pull for a device with a removable battery, but since the n4 doesnt have a removable battery..
Guys, I've tried all these and nothing helped. It happened a week ago, so the battery had time to go on 0%, I've charged it and still no life signals... I even removed the battery - nothing.
Meanwhile, Google decided to screw me up, so we keep trying to resurrect the phone...
About the modem.zip: doubt it was a bad zip, cause others used it before me also. I had a bad luck, happens...
Hello, i'am from france and i have a Samsung Galaxy Note SM-N9005.
When i try to plug the charger in phone ( Turned On), it doesnt recognize it. I tried to use it's USB 3.0 cable ( from the box) , doesnt work.
then i tried another samsung charger micro usb one, doesn't work. Then i tried to plug it in my pc, the pc doesn't recognize it.
The only way to charge it, is to turn it off... but it still have a strange way to charge.
When i plug the charger,it vibrate and then show me the grey battery, then the green one ( Normal way to show that's its charging).
After around 10 sec, it vibrate again ( like if i unplugged it) and it comes back to the grey battery, then green.... over and over...
It does this but it still charge my phone, and that's the only way i found to charge it.i dont know why it is charging when it is turned off and not when it is turned on?
Thanks in advance for your help

i have the exact same problem!!! It just started yesterday.
Do you use the original charger?
If you use a other charger with less power, the phone will not charge!
You need a 2Ah Charger.

Yes i understand, but i use the one that came with the telephone. Its the original samsung USB Cable 3.0 + the Charger.
I tried with the Charger from a Galaxy Note 2 ( usb 2.0) it still doesnt work.
It's a hardware problem.

As said is hardware issue. If your Note 3 is under warranty use it, because they will fix it. If not, go to a phone repair center and they should be able to fix it as well.
It might be the microusb from the phone, a friend of mine had something similar with his s2.Good luck!

What is the best way to save everything on my phone ? ( I can't use my usb if my phone is turned on)
It would be nice if someone know how to do it. Thanks :fingers-crossed:

Back up your data with your backup app of choice (Helium, Titanium Backup). Throw your backup file into dropbox.
Your photos should be backed up in drop box so don't bother.
Contacts are in your Google account don't bother with that either.
So I think it's just Music and movies if you're not using Play Music.
I would use sd card for back up, that's one of the reasons it's there. I backed up contacts on my old phone to Google and then for some reason couldn't recover it on new phone, maybe I did something wrong, but had no problem loading them them up from sd card. If you really hate to send it back (I would) you could open the back (search youtube, there are few videos how to), I think it's 8 screws and check if the charging board connector is loose. I wouldn't go much past that and would make sure there are no temper proof seals to disturb.
Hello how you solved this problem? I discover exact the same problem with charging on my n9005 today.
Pretty sure this is related to the software on this, not the hardware, unless they are all broken. I have recently sent mine in for the same reason, got new note 3 had it for a week now. But before sending it in i got a new battery, new cables, nfc charger and a cradle, to rule out all the chargers as a possibility. After getting the new one it worked fine until I updated after all updates came down now it wont charge again. I found that If I remove the battery and put it back in it will start charging from time to time but currently its off and charging sort of, Keeps starting to charge for about 5 min and then stops for about 10, and keeps this cycle. If anyone else has a new one and still getting this after Updates please let me know.

Problem fixed!
I had the same EXACT problem for a couple weeks. It clearly isn't a hardware issue if the battery actually is charging when off (FYI to anyone who needs a refresher on how technology works). Clearing the system cache took 30 seconds and worked! Here is how to do it:
Turn off the Galaxy Note 3.
Press and hold Volume UP + Home + Power buttons.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
In the recovery menu, navigate to ‘’wipe cache partition’’ with the volume buttons.
Press power button to confirm.
Once this is done, select reboot system now.
Requesting your help!!!! pls... Super urgent

So after a lot of reading online and understanding logically that if the hardware is screwed then the phone will not charge in the first place, I followed your steps and wiped my cache. I was literally keeping my fingers crossed that this will be the end of my long haul with this problem. However, the phone did not start charging after that and the problem still persists. I strongly believe that this is a software related problem as the phone functions fine and the battery life is also as it was before. Given this, I kindly request you to tell me if there are any other solutions or ways through which I can fix this issue? Your response is most appreciated and urgent.. HELP!!

Ok, wiping the system cache worked for about 2 hours. I was a little too excited. I just replaced the charging port and so far, so good. Make sure to buy the proper charging port; each one is different per carrier (e.g., mine is a SM-N900V for Verizon, SM-N900T for T-Mobile, etc.). The charge port was $11. You can find all carriers, except Verizon, on Amazon. I googled Note 3 replacement parts and picked the most legit looking website to order mine. Good luck.
did any one found out any solution for this
i am getting same grey battery sign over and over again when plugged into charger (Wall/USB 2.0/3.0) and its not starting with battery power, last time battery was charged to 86%

hey how you fixed it. i m also facing same issue now
Hi Everyone! I have a galaxy note 3 SM N9005 32GB. I've started facing a very weird problem recently that I cannot find described anywhere in quite the way I'm experiencing it.. My note 3 powered off by itself after running out of charge last night. Ever since then, the only thing that happens when I plug it in to charge is that the screen stays black and the phone only vibrates once. No charging LED indicator, nothing on the screen at all, just a black screen like when the phone is off. In order to get it to vibrate again, I have to do a power drain before connecting it back to a charger. There's nothing on the screen at all. Can't boot into recovery or download modes and it's not detected by a computer. Have tried multiple cables (USB 3.0 and 2) and have 2 batteries which were working fine till this happened.
Any idea of what's going on? And if I can back up any data from it like contacts and messages? Thankfully, I had transferred almost every app I could to the micro SD card (128GB Sandisk) and was able to at least recover my notes from colornote, but I digress. What is going on in my phone?
Additional info - the battery is probably still charging when I plug it in. I think this because the phone and the battery warm up after being plugged in for a little while just like they used to when the phone was working.
Even more additional info - I don't know if this is relevant, but I recently upgraded to the most recent OS version available. I think It's a 5.0 or something but I can't remember exactly. Also, the front camera stopped working some time after the upgrade. And 2 days before this, 2 apps refused to update for some reason. I don't know if this could be related.
TL;DR - Note 3 N9005 ran out of charge and is now almost dead with black screen and no LED but vibrates only once after plugging in or pushing the power button. To get it to vibrate again, a power drain needs to be done. The battery is still charging because it gets warm when plugged in.
I too had the same problem but when I connected the phone it would not even vibrate like completely dead.
Maybe try these:-
1)Connect it to the pc of it detects it then recovery would be easy.
2)Connect the charger properly.
3)remove battery for like 30 minutes and try the steps 1 and 2 again.
4) If still not working go to the dealer cause I had to go to him too. ?

I bought it off of amazon, any suggestions in such a case? Besides trying to send it back, I mean. Anything or tool I can try? I don't mind if it gets technical. Need to get my app data off the internal memory.
Though mine started with a different problem than yours, since today it seems like the problem is same like yours. Phone's display is totally black, yet I can go to download mode (cause phone is detected by Odin), I flashed the latest stock ROM of UK too, but now there is no change anyway. I want to be practical and think that this is a display problem, if not I will be more than happy. I have to send the phone to a local technician I know, lets see.
The only think I believe you can do is wait, for maybe 6-7 hours or so, with the battery detached, and then insert it back and see whether its booting with display on or not, if not its more likely a hardware issue, display possibly.
