Hi Chris,
Please eleborate/clarify your OP, because I don't think anyone gets this... At least i don't! You say the screen doesn't turn on but the phone boots?! How do you figure that? Your device is actually on because you can receive/answer calls!?! :S
Sounds like your device has just BSOD (Black Screen of Death) which is discussed quite a lot here. Just press reset button or pull the battery (please tell me you have tried that before...).
If your device IS NOT powered on, please try this:
Does the device vibrate shortly when pressing the End-button? If so you should leave it connected to the charger for longer. If battery has drained too much it takes a while for the device to allow it to power itself up (prevention of overdrainage, which Lithium-batteries don't like very much).
Do you charge through USB, or with the supplied charger? I've had this before trying to charge it with a (different brand) microUSB charger. Turned out most chargers only give out 500mAh, whilst my normal charger (and car-charger) give out 1000mAh i believe. That might help.
You can order a cheap replacement battery from China (i got mine with dockingstation), which is already charged about 60% (for storage purposes).
BTW if your problem is fixed, please add the prefix [FIXED] or [SOLVED] to your topics title.

i have restarted many times.
i use the wall charger.
but why would the phone boot but not turn on the screen or have the mic work?
remove your sd card and the battery. you may have to hit the rest button on the back after you plug the battery back in as well, but as long as you have the sd card out it should come back on. try plugging the phone into a charger and then remove the battery as well sometimes it'll wake it up so to speak. it's just a matter of playing with it. mine did the exact same thing and i freaked out for a little bit.
now if after all this it doesn't work and you've played with it for a while then yeah, best of luck to you =\. but whatever you do in playing with the battery and the charger, keep the sd card out until you can boot into winmo.
EDIT: never mind, i thought the phone wasn't booting. i misunderstood, but i went back and reread the original post. try reflashing your rom if you're in winmo and experiencing those issues. or take the sd card out and reboot.
i would suggest making an backup, as your phone turns on you should be able to estaplish a remote-connection with some (3rd-party-)software and do a hardreset.
if this wont work i would recommend setting it back to factory default (revert hspl if you have one and install stock rom) and send it in for warranty.
seems to be some major problem...
All this steps should be possible without screen turning on (working touchscreen may be needed for backup, but flashing doent need screen input)
if drive-mode is default for your usb connection and holding you from flashing you can do a hardreset and afterwards active sync will be default again and you can establish an active sync connection and flash
check if any of the pins that contact the battery are bended or broken, try to avoid removing the battery when you have to reset your hd2 because the pins are fragile
similar thing happened to me just last night!
I tried the jmz dual boot last night and I was nearly out of battery. I didnt look at any instructions I just installed it and restarted the phone to check out the new toy. it finally got done loading I chose android right away and I was walking towards the bedroom. when I went to see if android had fully booted and plug in the phone I had nothing! It was off. I decided that the battery must have died so I tried to turn it on and all that happened was the tmobile flash screen came up for a second and then it went right off, I got so desperate that I was going to do a hard reset but that wouldnt even work! the boot loader screen would just shut right off. I was suggested to try another battery we had at the house and bang it fired right up I took a wiff of my other battery and I dont know what happened but I think I let the magic smoke out cuz it is fried!

hello friend...i have a problem similar to this. basically when my phone is in android which i use alot if it dies in android, when i reboot it it will turn on for about a second to see my splash screen then turn itself off (the battery is obviously flat). so i plug my charger in and it stays on now but doesnt indicate charging....i boot it into windows mobile and the batt just stays at 0% but its still working. however once i unplug it it will die.....its like the battery is not in the phone. luckily i have two batteries and a dock which charges batteries, so i replaced the battery and everything works fine. once the battery that died in android was fully charged i tried it again and it was fine.................im guesing the moral to this story is dont let your phone die in android mode
I do notice my HD2 runs hotter while in android than while it runs in Windows.
I am not sure if that's an issue to this, which is why I never mentioned about it being hotter. Although my HD2 is noticeable hotter, it never gets to a point that I think I should unplug the USB due to overheating concern...
Just a few inputs from passed experience
I use TMOUS Stock 2.13.531.1 WWE ROM
2.12.50.2_2 radio (not stock)
k going to tmobile today to see if they have any extra batteries i can try.
then ill update
i went to tmobile. and while i was there i noticed the screen was turning on but very dim without backlight (barely noticable). but the rep helping me did not notice and i let it stay that way because tmobile is sending me a new refurbished phone as long as i send the old one (and the rep was totally cool he uses xda also and said they wont check my software and if they do they wont ask for the phone back). he also let me get insurance in case this happens again, instead i will just say its lost. so i basically killed 2 birds with one stone
Hi,I have a Android gingerbread 2.3,haspl v.3,MAGLDR113,it's second time my htc block and dont want to restart from the buton,i have remove the battery and it dosnt want to turn on ,there is no screen, the battery was charget, but the red light don't light when i plug the cabel,in my PC dont recognise usb, nothing and the phone,i try for 1 day to remove a battery, but no result,1st time when it happens it work, but for a week i can't use it,Sorry For my English,Some ideas what can i do before i took it back in the store
sounds like it could be a simple flat battery. when magldr is installed you cannot charge the phone unless android is running, so when it is off it does not charge.
if you can try another battery, or your battery in a winmo hd2, that will tell you if its teh battery.
If you have a spare usb cable (any type, doesnt have to be a hd2 micro usb cable) cut end off, bare red and black, hold red to + and black to - on teh battery for about a minute, which should give it enough power to charge.
Also check very carefully that you dont have a bent battery pin from all teh battery in/out. they bend easily.
i hava a Bat charger and charge the bat all night, and the morning it show me that bat is charget, put it on the phone, but nothing ... cant turn on
Maybe battery is dead. Do you own a volt meter an can check the voltage provided by the battery? It shoud show up about 4 volt.

Is there a program that can connect to the phone and erase everything
To wipe the phone install the HD2 toolkit, you can download it here.
It includes every tool needed for maintaining your HD2.
Be sure to install the drivers!
Start the program and press the Task29 button, follow the instructions provided. When it's finished your HD2 will be fully wiped, so you would need to reinstall everything.
Do so by doing a MAGLDR repartition. After that choose MAGLDR update recovery to flash the Clockworkmod recovery.
Then go into the Clockworkmod recovery and flash your rom.
Now your HD2 should be fully wiped
BUT! If your PC doesn't even recognize your HD2, and you can't even get to the bootloader screen by pressing and holding both volume down and the "end call" button. Then it's probably a hardware failure.

Magldr repartition flashes cwm so no need for the update recovery step. That's for, well the clue is in the name,,, updating the cwm version on an already partitioned instal.
Okay, thanks for clarifying that!
Didn't know it worked like that, I only use CLK.
Sent from my HD2 using xda premium

I've same problem after similar conditions.
Mine is 512Mb HD2 running Andorid on SD
- while using in extreme conditions: very low network signal, hot ambience temperature, using GPS and downloading data throug 3G
- the screen freeze on image and not respond on touch neiter button
-after 2-3 minutes phone temperature became very hot and screen again on freeze
- removed battery (for power off button not responding)
- insert battery
- no power up, no green LED with AV adaptet, no USB recognized
I'll trying to charge battery but i don't have a table battery chager.
Could you please repeat me what you did, since I didn't get the first part, what did you put on your router (what kind of router please)?
I've tried using my phone with another HD2 phone's battery which is working (and which also started with my own battery?!) but my own phone wouldn't start at all with the other battery...
The battery wasn't fully charged, but did it have to be, if so how long should I charge the battery with the cut USB cable for it to be charged enough please?!
TIA
P.S. I've tried a voltmeter on my battery and it said 4.14V (should it be 4V exactly?) and should I even try the cut USB charge trick again (since I've tried another phone's working battery)?

Ok if I understand you correctly you have tried your battery in a working HD2 and it worked. Then you tried the battery from the working HD2 in your device but your device still did not boot up. If this is correct I do not feel your battery is the problem, but still check the battery pins on your device to make sure none of them are not slightly bent and not making contact properly.
Also if you can provide more info on what you may have done to cause this or what happened when your device reached the state it is currently in. This info can help others and me help you better.
I have a similar problem.
The phone won't start, it gets to the white htc screen sometimes but quits within a fraction of a second.
This has been so since the first Android boot hung (I suspect I have not followed the steps accurately enough...). I have charged, decharged and recharged the battery using the suggested USB-cable technique, but this was of no aid so far, so it's not the battery. Pins and all's fine.
It's someone else's phone, too, so it would be rather unfortunate if I bricked it.
Are there any other common reasons for this behavior? Most tutorials rely on a PC connection, but as it does not recognize such a thing, that's a bit of a problem.
Finally the same problem here.
Battery status was about 70% and running smoothly (WinMO Custom Rom) since installed.Unlocked the Screen and tried to start programs.
The Icons were lightened up but nothing happened.Tried to softrestart...Nothing happened.
Removed and reinserted the Battery.
=> Not turning on.
-another fully charged Battery => nothing
-charging on Charger => nothing not even charging light
-plugged into (running) pc => nothing not even charging light
-5 hours in the fridge => nothing
-charging over night => nothing
Any hints ?
Thx for the goot work around here and greets from Germany !
Sebastian
PS If anyone got one to offer => contact me. Dont like those situations
Bad news!
Seems like your MB is gone...:crying:
Maybe one chance left for a JTAG attempt to a local service shop...
thats what i was afraid of
at least it happend only one hour after i made a backup
thx for the reply !

Also i can hear a strange noise coming from the charging kit. when it's plugged in. Could be an hardware error or software?
Better not do hard reset on the Android, can not help but bring you trouble ... to the charge I had the same case on CM 7.2, after a few reboot is to be changed do not know what the problem was, the developers are working on it, read forum you will find lots of information about
"i can hear a strange noise coming from the charging kit"
I would not use it, it is safer to be charged via USB cable.

Thx for reply. I don't think it's an android ROM problem. I had the same problem when i still used the wm 6.5
here's a solution
Flash Back to Wi-Mo and Check Setings\System\Power\Battery -Do not charge the battery if the phone is switched on and connected to a PC.
How do you know, that the phone is not charging?
The state of the LED (red/green/off) is changed by software (WM/Android), if the device is turned on, while the charging itself is controlled by hardware only.
You should check, if the phone is really not charging, while its turned on. Just ignore the charging LED and monitor the charging state of the battery after an hour, after you started with an almost empty one.
Best regards
@stahlnase, you're right when it comes to Android, but (windows phones) have software to control the charging. Something else;although we have through the nand installation erased entire phone, there are still some Wi-Mo "things" in this case battery setting or GPS was also associated with a Win-Mo settings. Regards!
I'm still not convinced, that the battery doesn't get recharged, just because the LED is not on
But you made an important point about enabling charging, while being connected to PC. Since demian12 is not using the HTC USB power supply, the device might "think" it is connected to a PC instead on a pure USB recharger. I believe, there are differences in the wiring of USB connectors to determine, if its a power and data plug or power supply only.
Regards.

Ok, i've flashed the original wm 6.5 greek rom.
After that, my phone won't charge at all.It shows a solid orange light for 3 seconds then it starts blinking.
I can start my phone but it closed soon, after wm boot.
Because your battery is completely empty ... it is necessary to leave some time (5-10 min) to charge, ignore charging indicator, the battery is charging! After ten minutes put the battery out / in and start a Phone.
Go to: Setings \ System \ Power \ Battery.
And Unselect option: -Do not charge the battery if the phone is switched on and connected to a PC.
Done

I tried with another battery.Surprize my phone shows that, that one is empty too.
Strange isn't it?
Any ideea?
If you have a good HTC charger and battery doesn't charge after you reseted windows to factory default, then your problem is hardware related.
Of course I have some ideas, but do not have time until Monday to deal with anything. Sorry. I have a suspicion that Nokia charger burned your phone. Of course, should be checked, maybe is a bug in the Android battery driver, and with the help of a trick to make the jump and put everything into place. either way, do not give up, try again and again to turn on your phone.

I really hope you found a solution. Ive been looking an answer for this annoying problem for 6 months!
Ive read almost 50 threads in differents forums about this problem but no solution at all.
- Tried changing charging port. Cost me a few dollars but no solution.
- Tried USB debugging on and off from developers menu.
- Did MTP+ADB option in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Turned Low Battery Dump "on" in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Tried 10 or more different original Samsung cables.
- Upgraded PC USB drivers.
None of them worked for me.
Hope you have made a progress.

I've accidentally repaired the USB functionality of a sm-a510fd with that defect, but don't know the exact steps. Try this.
1. Drain the battery until it becomes unusable.
2. Use the power button. The device will fail to start (with nothing on the screen).
3. Hold volume down.
4. Insert the charger. The screen turning on takes longer than it usually does.
5. The device should indicate that it is fast charging?

Maybe I did something different, such as pressing volume up, or holding both volume down and power. Or volume, power, and home. It's the last thing I remember doing before seeing it fast charge again. Odin and fast charging simply didn't, within at least a year of trying different cables, and chargers offered by others. The shop I bought it from cleaned the USB port but it didn't work. The fast charging works today, and the Odin flash worked.
The context was that I have replaced that phone, so I tested a few things on the old one that could brick it or damage the EFS. If it happens, I could load the backup on TWRP. If TWRP becomes unavailable, that's unfortunate. The phone didn't have much value anyway because the USB functionality, power, volume down, microphone, speaker, battery, etc were defective, many cosmetic defects, and the phone was permanently rooted. The SIM 2 tray's front broke off, the SIM became inaccessible (I have deactivated that SIM). Wiped the cache, data, internal storage on TWRP, before testing. I left the phone on. Battery went to 0%.
These are what I remember doing(might have done), most of these could, of course, brick the device, damage the efs, or permanently damage the hardware. Not in any order. I don't recommend anything below unless you have replaced your device, try different button combos, like the ones above.
Left the device on for ? days. It did not pass the new year.
Soundalive, Adapt, SecurityLogAgent were debloated.
*#9900# > SilentLog > whatever is on the screen. (Not 9090, the RAMDUMP (ON) could resize and damage the EFS partition!!!)
*#9900# > CP based log.
*#2683662# > DSP Log on, RmPC log on, RF log on (3).
*#9900# > Debug Level > high. Device rebooted itself.
Took a look at the logcat -b radio, it got more verbose. Cellular related, and there's hexadecimal that I was too lazy to decode.
build.prop dev.silentlog.on It set the option on, but with no effect? I don't remember if I had checked /data/log.
efs > factorymode > on, maybe? It didn't change anything, probably did not do this.
build.prop ril.OTPAuth=true
build.prop ro.build.type=eng It didn't work. Setprop... it didn't work. Reverts back to user.
The power and volume down... against the rounded edge of a table. Did not use force, it got those buttons unstuck(power permanently on, volume permanently off). Power button sometimes presses itself, but at least it isn't (almost completely) permanently like the way it was. Of course it could get rust all over the other components, get the accelerometer stuck, get those buttons permanently embedded, etc.
Turning both microphones towards the earth's gravity, inserting the SIM pin, then spinning it got the microphone working again. I don't recommend this. "OK, now only the USB problem is significant".
Set *#2683662# logs to the defaults (all off except RmPC), *#9900# debug level low, load backup in TWRP (data, system at least). And then the phone was left on at the lock screen.
Found it with a dead battery. Fast charge worked again.
I then flashed stock Nougat on it, then it got rooted. Gave it since it's no longer my main device. The recipient is afraid of it for some reason. Offered an underclock because the device gets hot while under load... nope. Guess it's the power button being odd sometimes. The speaker remains muffled & the sim 2 tray is stuck. But for now, I still have access to it after asking for permission, to copy & look at system files.
The battery is old and shuts off quickly below 15%.
You could try hard reset. If that doesn't solve then replacing usb port maybe only option left.

Thanks for your answer but if you mean and OTG USB I have an OTG USB for android phones and it doesnt work.
Greetings. First of all I'm a normie not a techie and I don't understand half the threads in this forum!
Then, first week of Nov, I updated the software after being prompted. But I'm not even sure if that was an Android update or a Samsung update. All i know is that i lost my screen brightness slider, my volume control for my music streaming, and — most critically — my battery no longer charges properly. Before the update the battery & charging were normal. Now i can't charge properly (or completely) no matter how long it's plugged in.
Things I've tried so far include:
1. Different cables, outlets, and chargers
2. Optimized settings, disabled notifications, put apps to sleep
3. Force restarts
4. Safe mode
5. Tried charging while device is powered off/on.
Please see graphic below. The extreme discontinuities (crevices) relate to charging when the device is OFF. Yes, it now loses charge if I keep it plugged in while turned off. However, it's now been plugged in for weeks and still hasn't charged fully.
Advice welcome. I'm at my wits end with this device. (BTW, I have another Galaxy Tab which is working (and charging) normally. I didn't update its software.)

Late model devices need to be turned on while charging. The smart charging routines are embedded in the firmware and the device needs to be on to run them. Download the AMP app from Play Store and run it while charging and it will show the rate of charging. Post the results. You can turn the screen off for a little faster charging.
Thanks for your response. Wasn't sure which amp meter to choose so I selected the one with the highest rating.
The charging rate seems very slow, though I don't know what's normal. The adapters show 2A and 3A ratings.
Never knew the tablet should be on while charging. Mine made some headway overnight while off, but lost that and much more after I turned it on again. It's now been plugged in for weeks. Next I'll put it in airplane mode so it doesn't search for a signal.
Here's the fastest I've seen so far. Still doesn't seem like much.
None of this addresses why it all changed upon applying the September update. Everything was fine before then.
As you can see, the trend isn't good around here.

That is nowhere near what it should be. Do you know how to flash the latest stock ROM with Odin? Sept isn't the latest.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to do that.
I do have a new max and min though

edit: Have you tried updating via settings? Do that first.
If that doesn't, your only option is to try a factory reset. But first, make sure you know your Google Account name and password. You will need them the first time it reboots. You won't lose any photos, videos, music and such but you will lose contact, settings and any apps you have installed. To factory reset click the Settings icon and goto /Settings/General Management/Reset/factory reset. If that doesn't work, then you will have no option but to learn how to connect the tablet to a PC and use Odin to flash the latest firmware.
