This forum has become totaly obsolete.

over the last couple of months there hasn't been a new build or any other "big" news for that matter. all I see is a few kitchens and a bunch of 15 year old kids who use them to create and upload tens of ROMs (which are all basically identical and share the same functionality AND flaws).
too bad, this forum used to be the most useful source on the net for WM6 related discussions.
Aah come on, don't be like that. People over here are doing the best they can to provide custom roms (for people who don't have the knowledge of creating them themselves).
IMHO, if you don't like them you should create your own rom and use that one. Capice?
P.S.
I went back to the original O2 WM5 ROM about a month ago. no more crashes, missed calls, etc.
it just wasn't worth it.
I guess you missed the 'official' WM6 ROM that InGeNeTiCs posted here...
Use the force luke!...
I agree with both of you guy's, yes thats what I'm doing... It has become slightly irritating the amount of custom rom's being published by newbies. But guy's like Mattk. R, Zoki, Fariah and Molski are really working much harder then microsoft is even with there poor version's of roms and so called update's. Variety inspires competition. And if your not happy with any of them then do like the Wizard2203 said, grab a kitchen and start cookin!...
p.s. did u use the u.k. 2.19 radio rom? at the moment for most guys that's the only one that really works with wm6
mattk_r, Zoki, faria, Molski, mUn and few others whose nicknames I can't remember right now have my full appreciation. it's the newbies custom rom flood that is killing this forum.
I think I'll take a few months off this site and come back when the real, official WM6 (not SpAd's SuPeR OfFiCial WM6 [email protected] 3) will be available.

Galaxy S II Roms database

Hi guys,
I just created a site ( http://www.galaxys2roms.com ) that lists all the current Galaxy S II roms. The site tries to give a bird's eye view of the latest updates of each rom along with links to their threads.
The rom information is automatically refreshed from the "Galaxy S II Android Development" and "Galaxy S II Original Android Development" threads every 15 minutes.
Let me know how to make it better!!
Thanks a lot for your efforts

nice...
would be great for forum members to add their rating on a star system which contributes to an overall rating of the actual ROM
thanks for your work

What you mean like the xda forum allows you to? Another lets consolidate all the roms into a list thread....is using xda developers really that hard? If some people find this helpful then fair enough, but this seems to be about as useful to me as that other thread where someone thought, for whatever reason, that we needed another thread with all the ROMs posted in it?
Bizarre.
Our Rom is called Dark Knight Edition
and the build is V2 etc...
please make that correction
Excellent. I used this on HD2. Good ideea!
Excellent summary. Would be helpful if date of ROM latest update is shown. Don't see Modaco on your list. (Edit: Also, no point having the line Sense as none of the ROMs port this over from HTC). Thanks.
excellent!! my first post.
Just one thing to say :
THANK YOU
thank you , easy to find.
it's a great ideea and it should describe a litlle the advantages and the problem a specific ROM has ,also as someone said the users should rate the ROM he used making easy to chose the one that suites your needs
can you ad twitter feed that would be awsome.
excellent! but would it be possible to sort the latest updated rom to the top ?
Thanks guys, here are my replies to your comments
xirokx
- star system might cause problems, many people here doesn't like the idea of having a rating system for roms, what they are saying is that you try every rom and then decide by yourself. From my site you can check the 'Replies per day' field, that will give you a good estimate for the most active roms.
GadgetCheck
- renamed your rom to 'Dark Knight Edition'
jchoong
- Rom last update is shown in 'Updated' field. This is the last time that my site found the thread title of the rom was changed. Note that because I added most of the roms on sunday, they will have the same updated date until their thread title is changed in XDA forums.
- I removed the "sense" field as per your recommendation.
- I've added the modaco rom
ledavi
- Describing rom pros/cons would be impossible since I'll have to install and try each one of them
malavan
- I have an RSS feed instead of twitter, you can get it by clicking the RSS icon (the orange guy that is seatted and reads an RSS newspaper )
winson1984
- It is already sorted by the 'updated' field which is the last time that my site found the rom's thread title was changed. Now most of them have the same update date because I've added them at the same time. This will be sorted in a few days in which the roms will get updated.
Oh boy. loved this for HD2... thanks alot for seting it up for sgs2
Great idea. I mean great.

This is very usefull, used it all the time on HD2.
I don't know if is that important and relevant to the other users but i would like to see the Option TouchWiz: Yes/No. Like on HTC and sense. Please think about that.
Nice idea gan it make us easier to find lot of custom rom scattered in this forum, thank you for your hard work..

I think the views, posts and posts per day give you that picture already, don't need stars. They are not telling you much as well, since every user values different things in a ROM and has different things they see as essential for daily use.
Apart from that I miss Galnetmiui and the latest official Samsung stock rom in the list, as a comparison, although I realize that getting them on the list will be difficult.
The following days I'll let you know about some feature of my site that you might not know.
Today's feature is : "Replies per day"
On http://www.galaxys2roms.com , below each listed rom, there is a value named "Replies per day". This is calculated based on when the rom was first seen by the site and the total replies posted in the Rom's thread.
This value is very usefull because it can very easily show you which roms are most active (the ones with the higher "Replies per day"). Also note that you can sort the list based on the "Replies per day" value.
The above feature is found on all 4 of ROM LIST sites (for galaxy s2, htc sensation, hd2 android and evo4g)

Really looking forward to the port...
IMO no need to open 100 threads about the same subject, and definitely not with such promising/euphoric titles. zack is still working on it and either he or FaqihCici will surely open a dev thread as soon an initial version release is available.

gonna build a kernel to test ICS for myself to see how it handles what is different beside CPU?

There is nothing much exciting. Samsung released a value pack for i9001. Installation instruction can be found in this very own forum.
Same crapWiz UI and additional face detection added.

Galnet MIUI

TO MODERATORS:
before you remove this thread --- please read:
I started to get a little p*ssed off regarding the infrequency of updates and lack of actual benefits to being a "groupie" for Galnet... so I posted this on the forums...
"
BBenefits of being a groupie right now:
None.
Reasons:
-there are already several implementations of MIUIV4 for the SGS2 based on work by Team Hacksung. I would have thought this was something Galnet would already have a release for with similar functionaity.... in reality... no...
-the changes made my the Galnet team are rather minimal over the weekly updates provided by the MIUI team already
-lack of frequency of updates, lack of actual changes from stock versions - half part of the previous reason, and half because you would expect a modified version of a ROM to be modified more often than it's "stock" counterpart.
-reverting to stock animations in MIUI builds... this is an attractive feature which might actually encourage more folk to sign up, yet seems to have just been excluded from weekly builds....
Can I just make raise something worth discussing please in that the reason the forums are so completely void of any discussion (which roughly translates as "interest") is because there is almost nothing happening.
If there are lots of things happening in the background, you need to let people know. Before you start flaming me, I've paid less money for PC games that took years to develop and are still being updated on a regular basis. I understand that paying to be a groupie wasn't just for our benefit, but to aid and encourage development, but it's certainly not marketed as a "donation"... it's marketed as a subscription... and since I joined.. there has been 1 or 2 releases...
Please do not flame me purely because you are passionate about open source development and because you don't think we have a "right" to complain... but I am starting to understand why Galnet has become the swear word of the XDA environment.
........ "
Don't want to discourage development and be unfair to the competion -- but my last comment pretty much sums up the issue...
EDIT:
I will not post links to what I am talking about, those who are aware will already know who/what I am referring to.
I stopped using Galnet as I found releases a number of days late and they seemed to get worse and worse (their reaction to their rom not booting correctly was 're-wipe and reflash before rebooting after first install....why not just fix that and re-upload it...).
As soon as I saw they were using their forums to advertise their web design services I decided to not bother checking back. Clearly not making enough from their groupie system...Probably for the reasons you posted.
I was "THIS" close to join the groupie back in the "chameleon" days but i was lucky that i changed my mind. Galnet has depreciated and i dont have any faith in them anymore. They used to be a quick and fast release group eventhough people label em as zipper/cooker but now, its almost dead.
Plus i live in the world where Galnet only release much for NexusS and GalaxyS so, bye bye Galnet. Your zipping work has been pleasant for me all these while curing my tears upon Bmarko leaving MIUI development
Galnet ROMs are banned from XDA for several reasons, not the least of which is GPL violations.
So, I don't see how discussing this little drama in the GSII General Section serves any purpose whatsoever but to bring nonsense that the overwhelming majority of people here could not care less about.
Closed.

[Great News] [Official] [CM12.1][Coming Soon]

Hello Everyone
I have come across device tree for Hima M9/CyanogenMod 12.1 with a custom Kernel. (If I'll tell you the name of either , you'd Google in a second)
The developer is a genius and trust me you'd see both of these within a month. Stay tuned for updates.
I can attach screenshots but I'd not post links as previous experiences that I had meant that people started troubling the developer and he quit the project all together. Respect the developers and read in my signature about development process and what it is actually like to be one.
This is just a confirmation and I can actually prove it to everyone who are interested.
I see many device tree updates every day so I am sure once CM12.1 is available officially, it'd open gates for all sorts of custom ROMs!
Attachments coming in few hours as I'm heading out
wow that would be awesome! cant wait to run a pure android rom on this beast
*all f***** fingers crossed*

DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
INTRODUCTION
I am starting this forum in hope of educating my readers about ROM development according to my experiences. Further, I will highlight what is the usual developers' thought process before they decide to build a ROM for a specific device. The reasons why they usually choose a certain device or why they prefer one device over another would also be stated briefly. I also have intention of looking into ways how we can speed up ROM productions for any device and what you can do to play your part.
I UNDERSTAND YOUR FRUSTRATION FOR NO CUSTOM ROMS EVEN AFTER SOME MONTHS BUT THIS DOESNOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO SPAM
I am sure many of you must be really disappointed by the lack of development for your device and I know this must be frustrating when we see other devices are getting ROMS so quickly. I know many are too excited when they find a little about any OTA/ Custom ROM and sharing such news is fully justified. However, it's beyond my logic & thinking why the forums are SPAMMED for any little information they might find anywhere regardless of their sources or if it has been ALREADY POSTED. I reckon many of these threads could have been avoided by simply searching in the forum.
ROM DEVELOPMENT
I can assure you that many develoeprs are working very hard to PORT and develop different ROMS for a device. However, the reason we can not see any CUSTOM roms till yet is due to complicated nature of a device itself.
Usually developers prefer a device which is :
1. Easy to work with, less complicated to code with or in other terms DEVELOPER friendly. For example, for a while I had a real issue with HTC phones as they have too many things to work with like Bootloader, S Lock, Radios, Hboot version etc while in Nexus devices you only need to unlock your device with one fastboot command. That's all and you are ready to flash ROMs.
2. Personal preference of Device. This simply means that we all have different tastes and thus we choose different devices. A certain developer might only work for a certain brand while other might work with few brands. This has nothing to do with anything but a personal choice.
3. A device that promises reward in terms of money/self satisfaction. Developers usually go for devices which have most active users so if their intention is also to get some money out of it in terms of donation, this will work well with devices which are more in number.
4. Knowledge about a certain brand more than another.
5. MONEY TO BUY A CERTAIN DEVICE/DEVICES. Suppose a developer wants to make ROMS for Xperia L/ SP/Z and Xperia U. Yet he only has 500 dollars to choose from. He then will have to make a choice between devices and this will eventually mean that not all of the devices get the same treatment. Money is the most decisive factor why a developer doesnot chose your device but rather another. For example purpose only, if I have to choose between devices, I might prefer SP over Xperia L as I can see more future of SP than Xperia L(I might be wrong).
6. Simply he bought a device or it is gifted/donated to him
SOME REQUESTS
Please STOP bugging developers by trivial questions. Just think how many other people ask the same question and it gets very frustrating to actually work on the device itself.
Every developer has a LIFE apart from developing ROMs. They also have a family, school, work, hobbies, bad days and so much like us. So they will do it when they feel like doing it. Just sit back and relax. Enjoy your device until developer releases the ROM for your device. Asking a REASONABLE question seems plausible but asking same questions/useless questions without using brains is just STUPID. Kindly refrain from that.
If you have seen a developer who has taken the initiative to work on your device , the best thing to do is to be patient. Let him concentrate. Spamming and spamming again won't help really.Yet some users start SPAMMING developers, their twitters, blogs and accounts. That's really sad. You can discuss on the forum what you think about it but IRKING developers isnot really cool.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP DEVELOPERS AND SEE CUSTOM ROMS.
1. Search the form first and look for answers. DON'T start new posts/questions/threads when it is ALREADY mentioned in some other section.
2. STOP PMing/SPAMING developers but rather ask a question WHICH havenot been asked before in the forum. Do not engage in the habit of making a new forum for everything. Try to keep threads as little as possible.
3. Follow developers and see what they have updated about on their official twitter, facebook, etc rather than bugging them on different forums/social websites.
4 DONATE THEM. DONATE THEM . DONATE THEM!
The amount of efforts they put, sitting for hours in front of their PCs and I know how frustrating it gets when you try to run commands and everything seems to work yet you can not boot up your ROM. And worse, you can not find WHY really. Just a change in line in build.prop results in failure of ROM to boot up and specially working from source to build ROM is really really tough. The best thing you can do is being supportive and patient !
A ROM development requires not just EXCESSIVE amount of hardwork, time, energy and dedication but also they need MONEY to actually buy devices and try it on. They are happy and encouraged to keep on developing ROMs when they see their efforts are not wasted and they are rewarded and respected for what they do.
SOME BASICS OF ROM DEVELOPMENT
Usually this is required to make a full custom ROM
Blobs which contain hardware information which comes from hardware manufacturer like Qualcomm in case of Snapdragon processors
A fully functional device tree
Latest Android source (Or the android version source you want to build for)
Specific Custom ROM coding which is based on Android Source
Usually a device tree and kernel tree is needed before custom roms can be made available. This is a long trial and error process in which every component of hardware is made functional as usually manufacturers do not provide any code for their devices and thus new code is to be written which is very frustrating and long process!

What i pointed is where the developer actually mentioned he his working on it and the link can be sourced by anyone, and people in that thread have been checking the github as mentioned. Theres now two threads on the discussion of cm12.1 which talk similar. All you are doing is not mentioning the dev based someone who used his work without his permission. Also to add the dev replied that thread to have to say they having working booting img just some features aren't working.

I'm really excited about this, because the person doing this is making amazing progress and at last count I want to say it was only Wi-Fi and one other thing not working with said developer already pretty certain that they know how to change that, it's just a lot of trial and error (any dev knows how frustrating it can be having to compile the source all over again to test a tiny change)
What this means for me, personally, is that I can do what I've done on past htc devices and knock out a fairly complete port of miui (some default miui stuff doesn't play nice during flash, like the camera app, so I'll likely include the stock m9 camera app as packaged for other phones so it doesn't rely on sense)
Anyway... ?

Yeah. Once we have a reliable port of CM12, then porting other stuff is pretty easy. All I have to do is find a device that already has miui with the same resolution and dpi/ppi and port the assets over to the m9.
Preferably I'd like to port the miui patchrom so I can setup an automated build system to build a fresh copy every time aosp and miui are updated, but I don't have anywhere near enough time for that.
