[Q] Device not turning on - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please help, when i was flashing awesome beats, at the end of flashing my device's temperature is very high and then it turned off by itself. After that, my device wont turn on when i pressed the power button although my battery shows 50%+ before flashing.
I tried to plug the charge and the white battery charging indicators appeared but then the device went off again after a while. It happens repetitively, white battery charging shows up, and then turned off. When i tried to turn on the device while plugged into charger, a google logo appeared and then turned off. I can access the bootloader when pressing the vol down button while it's charging. Please help me, what's happening with my device? is it because the battery is fully depleted or maybe another issue? Thank you
Sorry for my bad language.

i've tried to flash the factory image but the problem still there. it wont turn on with charger unplugged, when it plugged, white battery charging indicator shows up, and then turned off with red led blink, after a while it turned on again with white battery charging indicator and again it turned off with red led blink, this happened repetitively. If i put my device in charge for a while, the red led wont blink again when it turned off after the white battery charging indicator, but it still wont boot..

Let it charge for couple hours before doing anything to it. How are you flashing the factory image? I recommend using one of the toolkit to guide you through.

Pull the battery and put it back in after 15 seconds

Thanks for all of your advices, i think i've already fix my phone since it can boot again and i successfully restore my nandroid backup. I did charge my device using 3rd party charger with 2.0A for a couple minutes and then unplug it and charge using my original charger. and guess what.. it works hhe. Thank you all :good:

Glad its alive again. Next time make sure to feed it well. Don't let the battery die to 0%. Recharge it once u reach 5% to 10%.

Thanks btw. the weird thing is, when i turned on the device, the battery is the same as just before it turned off. I think the battery is not depleted to 0%, maybe the device is malfunctioning or something.

bricked? red flashing led

Just got my nexus 4, and after it was left in cwm for about 10 minutes (while I was making breakfast) it went to a black screen and now just the red led notification led is flashing whenever plugged in, and on my mac in system profiler it shows "composite device", any suggestions?
Thanks!

Don't know if you want to do this, but you can open the phone and disconnect and reconnect the battery connector...
What was your battery level, I know in other devices some times the CPU(s) run at full speed in recovery allowing for quicker flashing this could discharge the battery rapidly. Also a flashing red LED when plugged in normally means the phone is charging but doesn't have enough charge to reliably turn on, leave it plugged in for about 15 minutes and try turning it on again.
Try holding down the VOL + and - keys along with the powerbutton (after turning it off by holding down the power button for an extended time) and see if you can get into fastboot. My friend's Nexus 4 kept bootlooping after he unlocked the bootloader but booted straight to CWM after, not letting it erase userdata first.

I have no problem doing this, the phone seems easy to disassemble, looks alot like a overgrown iPhone 4, 2 screws on the bottom. I just hope its an easy slide, I don;t want to mar it in case I have to exchange it.

I thought this as well, its been plugged in for at least an hour now.
Oh and now I don't even get the red led!
good times..
I've got the exact same issue. Plugged it in last night to charge and this morning it wouldn't turn on. Plugged and unplugged it and the red LED starts flashing. After a minute or so I'm getting the battery charge animation on the screen - so the red LED is power related. Now to see if it actually charges up and boots.
Hi nycbjr. I have seen a similar issue posted here, but I can't find the thread at the moment, try searching. If I remember correctly then he got it working by holding power, volume keys and then plugging in the charger.

get into recovery and try a cache wipe to start. if that doesn't work, do a factory reset. have you backed up your apps or anything? doing a factory reset will wipe your data and you'll lose all apps, settings, everything, but it will take the tab back to "out-of-the-box" setup.

What happened to cause this? Did you let it drain down to zero? Did it go from 50% to 0% at once?
More details please on what led you to this point.

Plug into wall charger, turn tablet off, let it charge for an hour and see if it boots back up.
Not USB, to weak.
And......you really should know better then to root and do intensive tasks with 13% battery. Just saying.

Have the same problem, battery is working good but looks likes battery sensor malfunction, so system doesn't know battery status!.
Don't know what is the effect of that for the battery life!.
Tried every thing to fix that.
Any way, the only solution is RMA, already called Google, and they agreed for a replacement.
So, don't wait, you got 15 days since you got it for a replacement.

I had this problem when I had the latest bootloader installed on my device, everytime I tried to charge it from (what it thought was) 0% the tablet would turn on and instantly turn off again because it had 0%.
I somehow managed to get it into fastboot and loaded the older bootloader (the one which won't let you into recovery without being connected to USB) and the tablet began to charge without turning itself on!
I left it to charge for about 2 hours, turned it on and it had enough juice in it to stay turned on and charge the rest of the way to 100%.
Not sure what the reason / cause of this was, my battery was at about 10% before it happened and it suddenly depleted to 0%!
Hope this helps!

my situation is different here, like this, I got my shipment at work, open the box, turned on the device, it's like 40%.
test it then put on the table for charge, take a look was in 98%..... after half hour it's 0% with on red battery icon.
Now sometimes battery work and I can see the "xx%", sometimes it stayed at 61% for 1 hour of use then jump to 42%!!
Sure something wrong with the battery sensor!.
This is a classic example what happens when people don't take the time to educate themselves on rooting their device. Anyone who owns a nexus device should know where to find factory images for both old and new firmware. And I always charge via USB and not AC. AC overheats my battery way too much. It can cause serious damage to your device.
Just saying

Nexus 4 Battery Issue

Had 2% battery left when i put it on charging, at about 95% i removed the charger and placed some calls, surfed the net and scanned my files for any viruses. Suddenly the screen went black and n4 didnt respond to anything. Long pressing the power button didnt seem to work as well. I then connected the charging cable and the red led starting blinking, after a couple of minutes i turned it on and thats what i found. Any help regarding the occurrence of thia issue will be appreciated. (Sorry for my bad English tho)

Calibrating the battery is not necessary. It's better to not let it die and then plug it into the charger. Under the hood. our phones are powered by a Lithium-polymer battery. They'll last longer if you charge it before it dies.

[Q] Nexus 4 battery dead and cant recharge

So i was on my phone and the battery dropped to 0 and died. I went to plug it in and nothing. I am using the stock charger and everything. There is no red led to any sign of life at all. I have tried holding the power button and holding power and volume- etc. So i went ahead and removed the battery for 5 minutes. I connected it and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Its not the red LED bug and the phone worked fine before, only when it dropped to 0 it got screwy.
Thanks
How did you remove the battery? I thought that was impossible with this phone.

My Red light fix
Hello,
I just had the problem with my Nexus where it displays the red led.
Once I first saw it flashing I unplugged the charger then plugged back in, The nothing would appear no charging icon or red light.
How I fixed it,
I left it plugged in for 20min then unplugged the charger, then hold down the power button for a good 20secs then plug cable in.
When i did this the red light appeared for about 1 min the it went to the charging screen, Once fully charged I turned on and its sweet.

Help please, GT-I9505 wont boot!!!

Hi everyone, I have a big problem and I dont know how to fix it
A couple of weeks ago I installed via Odin the Test Firmware 4.3 for my GT-I9505 and it worked fine so far.
Today I rebooted my phone normaly and for my surprise it wont boot..
It vibrates when I press power button but nothing happens, screen keeps black with no image at all.
Dont let me enter download mode or recovery mode.
I already tried to pull the battery off for 10 minutos and put it back in and nothing happens. just vibrates.
The LED turns RED if I plug the phone to the charger but still no charging image or anything
I dont have any custom recovery or anything.
Can someone please help me?
PS: sorry for my bad english
Suggest obtaining a new battery. Look at your battery has it grown in size? Try turning it on with the charger plugged in.

Hi, thank you for your reply, the battery looks perfectly fine in size and shape, and i had 80% charged before this happened.
When I plug the charger and try to power it on, it vibrates as usual but still no imagem at all and after a few seconds vibrates again, the RED LED lights ON and after a while it turns green that I beleive its because its full charged. I really dont know what to do

What I would do is go to either ebay or some online merchant and purchase
a "USB JIG", they usually cost less than $3-4 bucks including shipping.
Once you have one all you do is put the battery in the phone and
plug the USB JIG into the usb port of the phone and wait 5 secs.
Then you will see the "download mode" and you will be able to odin flash the stock rom..
The jig don't work 100% of the time, it all depends on why your phone failed but it does
work over 90% of the time unless your phone get messed up in such a way that it's bricked.
Good luck!
Remember it's faster to click the "THANKS" button than it takes to type "thank you".
