Hi there, I'm kind of new to this and I really want to flash Paranoid android on my phone
I want to ask if I need to update my kernel to do this otherwise it would mess up my phone (that's what I read somewhere)
If so which one/where would I find how to find out.
Thanks!

Just flash PA it has a kernel included. Simply go into recovery, wipe everything but the sd card. Then install PA and then install Gapps and your done.
Most kernels no matter what will work on any ROM with the same version of android. Lets say stock 4.2.2 kernel can work on almost any 4.2.2 custom rom.
It won't mess up your phone. Just make sure to make a backup. Paranoid Android uses stock kernel. If you are coming from 4.2.1 then u will need to update ur baseband first. If you are on 4.2.2; u should be fine; you can go ahead and flash it.

Thanks for the quick reply! I think I'm ready to flash the ROM. Hopefully I won't break my phone!

just keep a nandroid backup.... and after flashing, u can use a different kernel..... im using franco kernel.... u can try that to imrpove ur battery life and it has many other customization options..... or install franco updater, it flashes the kernel easily and automatically......
Just asking who has flashed 4.3 then found its full of bugs and then reflashed 4.2.2 !!

Me, just now.
Was unhappy with the scrolling (stuttery & laggy - to me it seemed like the touch sensor was being polled less because while your finger was touching & moving, the screen scroll stuttered, when released, it continued its scrolling smoothly)
Also, WiFi was sometimes not reconnecting - had to either reboot or forget / re-join.
also had an issue with the camera flash failing to operate after 3 or 4 photos.
I was beginning to think I was imagining my N4 was nice an smooth - but I got so annoyed with 4.3 I unlocked & flashed 4.2.2 factory image. IT Is DEFINITELY smoother.
Screen stutter/lag can be rendered by checking "hardware overlays" in dev options

I'm missing aokp ROMs from 4.2.2 going back when I get to my computer later today

I've flashed a couple of 4.3 ROMs starting with stock but keep going back to LiquidSmooth v 2.9. I don't see any degradation in performance with 4.3, I have been getting better battery life from LiquidSmooth.
There were a couple of apps that I use that were not performing well with 4.3. I decided to flash back to cm because of this. It was mainly Swype that was driving me crazy. I'm unsure if it was the fault of Swype not being updated for 4.3 or if it was the screen polling of 4.3 everyone is talking about.

Still on 4.2.2 lol Never upgraded...:victory:

I don't see hardware overlays. Do you mean "disable HW overlay " or "force GPU rendering" ?
These were default (I.e not disabled and not forced)
Im not sure these would help?!?!
I tried 4.3 two times, but after a few hours I reverted back to CM10.1 :silly:
I'll wait for good and stable custom kernels, and for good custom ROM's.
It's me. I expect 4.3 very much. I update to stock 4.3, Titanium can't remove system app. So I tried to use PA rom, version 3.91, while I'm download PA rom, I detect a new version of PA, version 3.92. I'm very suprise with PA group speed, they're provide rom patchs continuous. And I had to download from beginning. After that, I install new rom with a big expectation but titanium still can't remove system app. Finally I had to restore to PA 3.69 by TWRP and wait a new rom version :crying:
Tried a custom CyanogenMod 4.3 Build, but I prefer to stay with the "current" nightlies right now.
Theres a reason why they didnt start rolling out nightlies already.
A question, where did you get the CM build? Is it from the team itself or was it made by someone else?
4.3, same on the outside, fubar on the inside.
My fears about the head honcho of android chrome being made head of the whole OS have come to bare.
If it wasn't for the fact that 4.3 fixed the double dial issue for us Solavei users id go back to CM 10.1.2 (4.2.2)

Am I the only one whose 4.3 is working just fine?

No, mine's working great also on 4.3. Missing the added functionality of custom Roms atm. Just waiting on cm 10.2 to become official:thumbup:

I find it hard to believe its working as it should be

I might revert back. I get several hours less battery time with 4.3 because Android OS "keep awake" is draining my battery. I never had such issues with 4.2.2. :/

I quite like the stock rom....kinda sad Matr1x only supports the JSS build....might flash a JSS rom...or maybe build it myself.
But yeah, I'm happy with 4.3. Never had any issues with OTAs

Everything seems to be working well. I couldn't test BLE, because I don't have a BLE device, but otherwise everything seems to be fine.
Yea I went back to 4.2.2... I'll wait for liquid smooth too upgrade to 4.3 before I flash another ROM.

Im running pa 3.99 and franco kernel 182. I was attempting to upgrade pa to 3.99 rc1 and started with upfating to latest pa gapps. after rebooting my stock keyboard produces random vibration feedback while typing. not every tap produces vibrations.I tried to reinstall gapps and upgrading rom but the problem still persist..

Well you can disable the vibration feature in the keyboard settings. Try changing the vibration intensity using Franco or Semaphore app.
Or try a different kernel.

Looking for a stable 4.3 rom. Currently running CM10.2 and there are too many bugs right now.. Have to reboot too often..
So what do you guys recommend? Only feature I really want is track skip with volume buttons..
Thanks.
Ohh and if it's not too much to ask could you link me to the rom.. I'm at work and not really supposed to be playing with my phone right now.

You could actually go for any Stock Rooted JWR 4.3 firmware. Install xposed module on top it and Gravitybox. Voila.

Paranoid Android is pretty stable. Loved it with AK kernel and their LCD presets.
Currently flashing CM 10.2 Nightly (latest). They are very stable. Only issue is that you need to flash every day or couple of days to be updated
Thanks guys.. Going to try stock with the add on

I want to try paranoid android. I am currently running CyanogenMod 11, do I need to flash stock or what?
Thanks for all the helpers
You need to wipe to install a new Rom, then flash rom, gapps, and you are good to go.. you do not need to go back to stock rom first
