changing from CyanogenMod to paranoid. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to try paranoid android. I am currently running CyanogenMod 11, do I need to flash stock or what?
Thanks for all the helpers

You need to wipe to install a new Rom, then flash rom, gapps, and you are good to go.. you do not need to go back to stock rom first

Question between kernal and rom? (newb)

okay, little confused about this whole kernal/rom thing. I flashed the Gingerbread kernal and it shows up in the about phone 2.6.32.33-cm-gingerbread ect.. but then when I flash the CMod 7 nightly ROM(#25) it changes the kernal to CMod. 2.6.32.28(i believe that's it)
so am I suppose to flash the kernal?
U flash the kernal over the Rom, being sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache.

Cyanogen already come pre installed with a kernal. This is why the kernal changed after flashing the Rom.

ALL of the ROMs will have a kernel included into the ROM. They have to for the ROM to work correctly. Look on the development thread for the ROM in question to see which kernel is included and deiced if you want that one or if you want an 3rd party one.
Keep in mind developers use the kernel they included for a reason. If you plan on leaving logs for the developers to advance their ROM i'd highly suggest just sticking with the kernel that is included. some of them even use the 3td party kernels to begin with.
But if the ROM you want doesn't use the kernel you want, yes after flashing a ROM you would flash the kernel that you want. Make sure to wipe the cache and the Dalvik cache prior to flashing the new kernel. AND MAKE SURE TO DO NANDROID BACKUP PRIOR TO FLASHING ANYTHING.

[Q] [URGENT] Flashing STOCK Rom gives Stock KERNEL too?

Hey Guys, I have tried customizing my SGY with nice Custom Roms that you guys have provided, they are awesome in so many ways.
My QUESTION is, If I flash a STOCK ROM via ODIN, will I get STOCK KERNEL too with those files?
Or I need to do something else to have my Stock Kernel back?
As I don't know how to restore my KERNEL, I haven't tried custom KERNELs, but I want to try some. So, please tell me??
Yeah if you flash a stock rom you will get stock kernel back

Quick Question About PA

Hi there, I'm kind of new to this and I really want to flash Paranoid android on my phone
I want to ask if I need to update my kernel to do this otherwise it would mess up my phone (that's what I read somewhere)
If so which one/where would I find how to find out.
Thanks!

Just flash PA it has a kernel included. Simply go into recovery, wipe everything but the sd card. Then install PA and then install Gapps and your done.
Most kernels no matter what will work on any ROM with the same version of android. Lets say stock 4.2.2 kernel can work on almost any 4.2.2 custom rom.
It won't mess up your phone. Just make sure to make a backup. Paranoid Android uses stock kernel. If you are coming from 4.2.1 then u will need to update ur baseband first. If you are on 4.2.2; u should be fine; you can go ahead and flash it.

just keep a nandroid backup.... and after flashing, u can use a different kernel..... im using franco kernel.... u can try that to imrpove ur battery life and it has many other customization options..... or install franco updater, it flashes the kernel easily and automatically......

Friend it solely depends upon you try the Chameleon Rom if you happy continue or revert back to PA. I haven't tried Chameleon would like to test it but for this I wont create a thread asking people "Should I try this rom ?? Should I change to this Rom ? etc"..
Try it and take your call. :good:
I tried chameleon ROM and did not like it. Its different, but I did not like it

Can't flash Kernel

I'm running CM 10.2 Nightly 9/27/2013
I'm trying to flash Franco Kernel Plus R184 but everytime I flash it, it goes through but ends up reverting back to the CM kernel. I tried flashing stock Franco and it still does the same.
I'm still looking for help on this matter
Gotta download the alternate kernel he provides.
