[Q] Thinking about GT-I9505G but I like Touchwiz - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a GT-I9505G (I own an I9500 now but living in the San Francisco market so I want to experience the LTE service). I do like (and got used to) the TouchWiz and some of the S-* services (I know many do not like that, I find those useful ).
Is there a way to flash the I9505G with an I9505 stock ROM? or at least have the TouchWiz running on a I9505G based ROM?
I've been browsing the forums but could not find an answer for that...
Thanks,
Gil.

you can choose between either go with 9505g and flash TW rom in recovery, or vice versa with 9505 (root,flash....)
You cant "convert" i9505 to i9505g or vice versa (so far)

Thanks dublinz, so the I9505 and I9505G is a compatible hardware, even in terms of LTE bands. Right? I guess this has been discussed in the forums before so sorry if I'm repeating the same question
(BTW, my 100th post in xda.. yey!)

And first thank you
i9505 and i9505g share same hardware, in terms of LTE bands it should be the same thought freq is activated by modem (different modem for different countries to match frequencies of local networks)

Thank you for the thank you dublinz!
This is an important point! Are you saying the different LTE frequencies are controlled by the installed modem? In other words, is that all software-dependent and not HW dependent? Can I run an I9505 (or I9505G) in any country that has LTE as long as I install the relevant modem?? I'm sure I somewhat generalized the question and I'm still trying to find out the differences between "Bands" and "Frequencies" when it comes to LTE.
Thanks!

As part of the modem we have LTE driver, in some countries LTE is disabled due to fact that they dont have LTE capabilityes, in others its enabled.
To answer to your question should you change modem each time you change country , answer is NO,
If you in England and you install modem for England , whenever you boot phone English LTE settings will kick in ;UNLESS you are in roaming, in that case modem will try to negotiate LTE values with host network....

Theoretically, yes - but there is no custom recovery yet for the I9505G. None of the phone's storage will mount when you flash a I9505 recovery.

No worries. Also, the partition layout is different on the Google Edition (more free space on the internal storage, due to system being smaller than TouchWiz). So we'd have to figure out a way to resize the GE to TW partition sizes. I'm using a I9505G right now and hoping to be able to play with the TouchWiz goodies, too.

[Q] Galaxy Y Duos, GT-S6102B (changing Modem/Phone)

Hi Team,
I'm from Colombia...
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Y Duos (S6102B), It Came with Gingerbread 2.3.6.
Version Kernel: 2.6.35.7 se.infra_AT_Sign_SEI-44 # 1.
Number of Compilation: GINGERBREAD.VJLC3.
*#1234#
PDA: S6102BVJLC3
PHONE: S6102BVJLC3
CSC: S6102BUUBLC2
What region does the firmware?
Where does this firmware?
I think that Samsung Galaxy Y Duos is very different to:
Samsung Galaxy Y (S5360)
Samsung Galaxy Y Pro (B5510)
Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos (B5512)
In Colombia the frequencies for WCDMA are 850MHz/1900MHz (like USA, Canada, Mexico, Chile, etc).
My GT-S6102B has preselected 900MHz/2100MHz Asian frequencies, and I need enable 850MHz/1900MHz for gain advantage of HSDPA (3.5G) data connections.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UMTS_networks

Could I use ODIN for update (wich file .OPS I doubt to use)?
According to ODIN (modem file option) how to change phone (modem or amss),tar.md5 file?
Could I unpacking zip (with firmware) specially for this model specifically, from samfirmware.com ? - (the zip has one only unextractable file)
Is It possible download files of Firmware from my mobile?
Thank you.
Jose Luis
Looks like your device is specifically tailored to Brazil, hence the B on S6102B and the weird frequencies.
I'm still investigating if the UMTS frequencies are software controlled or limited by hardware on a GT-S360L (currently supporting 850/1900 MHz UMTS, my goal is getting 850/2100 MHz).
I will let you know if I advance more.
Hi Jose Luis,
What you are reporting is weird as the GT-S6102 is supposed to be 900/2100 and the GT-S6102B is supposed to be 850/2100. I bought a GT-S6102B (exactly the same specs as yours: *#1234#, kernel, compilation) on Amazon.com 2 weeks ago. The HSDPA frequencies written on the box are 850/2100. Even if I live in Europe (frequency 2100), I especially bought my phone in the US to have the 850/2100 as I often travel in North America. I could not try yet if it works on 850MHz, but at least, it is written on the box.
Edit: I found this code *#*#197328640#*#* that seems to allow you to select the operating frequency. However, I didn't try it myself. Maybe somebody might confirm this?

Hi johnNavi,
I tried to changes frequency band using *#*#197328640#*#*, but the behavior is same;
Maybe you can change in the menu, selecting Frequencies for USA, but in functionality is not working.
I had a same case with GT-5670L(came with Gingerbread 2.3.4) -> updated to 2.3.6 for India, and the functionallity for operate in frequencies for America (Colombia Incluted) was damaged.
I needed to change only the file modem (phone) 2.3.6 to 2.3.4, not all Firmware.
Bye.
Hello,
to make it complete. I am from Germany stay in Argentina and have bored a S6102 from Russia.
Cards:
T-Mobile from germany (for phoning)
Moviestar from Argentina (for phoning and 3G)
Phone works fine, not like my HD2, but it works. Problem is, i cant use 3G (only Edge). could it be that i have the same problem with the frequency's?

Ok guys, here's the result:
I flashed the modem part of my device using data from a 5360B and toyed with it through *#197328640#, setting to only accept the 2100 MHz. So far so good, but I wasn't able to get any operator on my carrier lists.
The conclusion? Looks like software has some minor capabilities to lock down any unknown frequency, but the lack of right hardware is the major problem for us.

You must remember that Brazilian frequencies (850/2100) are different to Colombian (Chile, Argentina) frequencies (850/1900) for UMTS.
It's the test needed.

Hi Friend,
Sorry for asking you again, but I need to be secure for make changes in my phone.
I was reviewing in http://www.sammobile.com and I found that the S5630L Firmwares most complete would be Uruguay (850/1900/2100) and Venezuela (850/900/1800/1900) according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UMTS_networks
Uruguay:

Venezuela
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/150336037/1906c89/S5360LUHKJ2_S5360LUUBKJ1_VNO.zip.html
My questions
Would it be possible to change the S6102B (the modem firmware) version S5360L one?
If problems occur the change can be returned?
Thank you.
Best regards,

Has anybody been able to make the s6102b pick the 850/1900 band by way of flashing new modem? Thanks

[Q] Interesting thing: China Mobile i9508 is i9505?

i9508 is the China Mobile model of Galaxy S4, which supports GSM and TD-SCDMA.
A group of people made a custom ROM to enable WCDMA on i9508.
Seems i9508's got both WCDMA and TD-SCDMA support, and WCDMA is disabled by firmware.
However, people also report that they see "i9505" on those i9508 they buy. So, maybe i9508 is just a software-modified i9505 on which WCDMA and LTE is disabled.
So, anyone knows if i9505 also has both WCDMA and TD-SCDMA on it?
P.S.
Refs from a website called tphone8... sorry i can't add outside links.
Ref of i9505 printed on i9508: thread-21245-2-1.html
Ref of a project intended to find and enable TD-SCDMA on i9505: thread-14619-1-1.html
Yes, I9508 = I9505 + custom firmware
As far as I know, Snapdragon 600 supports WCDMA/TD-SCDMA/LTE, and someone said it can be hacked via *#1111#

I have, and I can't find an answer to my question on the page, it just says;
There’s another Chinese model, the I9508, which is a single-SIM Galaxy S4 with a Snapdragon 600 chipset. This one is China specific and differs from the I9505 in its TD-SCDMA support (the 3G tech in China).

Some people tried to raise money to buy 2 i9505s for the development. However, it doesn't seem promising. Only a few people donated, so the total amount will hardly reach the target. On the other hand, ROM makers already built ROMs for i9508 which enables the phone to use WCDMA instead of TD-SCDMA.
So there is no proof that an i9505 could support TD with some software level hack, even though the two models share the same hardware (or almost the same, i don't know).
So, for now, the only choice for TD seems to be i9508. I believe the CM-based ROMs for i9508 are coming soon (maybe they already built one).
They did.
Guys, I have a GT-I9508 and flashed into custom rom via Touchwiz UI and everything works very well. Once I used to have some wifi and bluetooth issues but I solved it with latest official rom.
Here is what I've done:
1) I flashed the GT-I9508's software with the latest official rom. (This updates the baseband of the device which means wifi and bluetooth connection issues are gone)
2) I flashed Omega v42.1 Android 5.0.1 Based on firmware XXUHOF2 ( which you can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2253528 )
Now, I have GT-I9505's rom runs on GT-I9508 without any restrictions even Google Products.
Regards.

Should I install I337 roms?

Hello all,
This is my first post here, so I'm kind of a noob, but please bear with me. I currently am using the Galaxy s4 GT-i9505 international version in which I bought in Hong Kong last month. I came back to home net network of Rogers Wireless in Canada. The major issue my area supports LTE and the phone cannot reach LTE in the status logo. (I am only getting 3G, H+, 4G) The phone is up to date with the newest in phone update of 4.2.2. This should not be happening because even in the Settings => Mobile networks => Network mode i checked under LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) option. What should I do?
Also, should I be flashing to the I337 version roms? (which is the local branded version for Rogers in Canada) Please help and help me get started, much thanks.

I'm going to delay you a little until you get a good, valid response from someone that actually knows for sure... But, I know if you flash an international ROM on an I337, it will brick the phone because some of the components are different. It seems to me that it would also brick your phone by doing the reverse, by flashing a I337 ROM on the international version.
First, you did post questions in q&a not the general forum. Second, there is a forum for the i9500, i9505 where you would probably get better answers for your device.
The canadian version is i337m...no locked bootloader as with i337
I am running an international based rom on my i337 m right now.
4g can be lte...depending on a few things..run a speedtest to be sure.
If your not getting lte speeds try to change your modem to the latest canadian version from the modem thread.

[q] lg g2 320l korean version now in uk

I am requesting assistance with basic development of the Korean 320L Variant of this device. I chose it due to the removable battery and 64gb micro sd card capability over the standard version available here in the uk.
I have achieved Root which is excellent but would like a CWM/TWRP based recovery if this is possible. I have tried the Korean Telecom 320k version to no avail.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated, I have already looked at the existing threads for answers but I see none (I may be missing something!)

I think i know what it might be.Did you update to the last OTA before you try the recovery? If the answer is yes then this is your problem, and you will need to revert back to stock to do so (and stay there until a new recovery img for the new rom arrives).

BolloXXX to that! Thanks for the update though. I guess I will have to wait for a workaround.. Times like this makes me miss the simplicity of a Nexus and an unlocked bootloader.

Its very easy to go back to another rom if you want,i did that with mine like 3-4 times already :good: You just need the rom and FlashTool.1.0.54.
They do have the K variant roms for download here:Btw S and L models are pretty much the same, mine is the S one but if i open it it says F320S/L.Even flashed it with the K software with no problems at all.
The latest that works is 10M

Hi jody04c and woof123
I too have an f320l model. Have you managed to get this to work on UK LTE/4G connections? I have an EE 4G Sim but can only get 3G. Various people are saying different things.
The pda site says limited band support, but the 5457#*320# menu has LTE Band 3 and LTE Band 7 listed. The latest Korean manual for 4.4.2 OTA update now also lists Band 7 support in the manual too.
However, I notice that In Korea LGUPlus don't use these LTE bands (according to wikipedia) and so I was wondering if I should just root and try loading the K or S ROM which might open these up?
I have seen the return to Stock page - for me to use that, will I need to Root first? Any advice on rooting the Korean variants (sorry if this is listed elsewhere, I'm not a familar user here and often find several threads with different details/steps).
Thanks in advance for any help here.

So has anyone had success getting the f320l working on uk 4g by using stock/custom s/k rom. As suggested here hardware with s and l seem to be same or similar, and the l model is used by lugplus who don't support EU lte bands so probably block through their software, whereas skt on the f320s support bands on EU. The latest f320l ota update also says it supports band 7, but it didn't work with uk Ee for me with default settings.

Reception/Modem/Baseband

Hello,
I recently upgraded from Xperia Arc S to Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505.
I bought my device from Hong Kong, with HK firmware. After I opened the package I put my SIM inside,
the reception was not very good. I was instructed by the company to use GSM only since there is no
LTE network in Israel as of today.
I flashed a couple of ROMs since and today I am on MIUI v5 which is my favorite, the reception remains
the same in all ROMs, quite bad compared to my old Xperia Arc S.
I was wondering about basebands and modems, I have been watching those two names floating around
the forums quite a bit and I never got around to playing with those.
So my questions are as follows:
1. Is there a different between modem and baseband or are these two just different words that refers to the same thing?
2. Does changing a baseband/modem can help get better reception?
3. If the answer to 2 is yes, which one should I get?
Thanks,
Oded
Yes modem/baseband are the same thing. Go to SamMobile website Google it, then go to the firmware section, choose the S4 find your carrier and see the latest rom for your carrier in the file name will be some letters and numbers like XXNA5 etc. This will give you a base to start with. Or tell me your operator and I can take a look.

Thanks for the quick reply. How do I find out which firmware I need to download? Israel is not in the list. My carrier is called Orange. http://orange.co.il/
behind the battery it says:
GT-I9505
SSN: -I9505GSMH
RATED
Made by...
Imei...
S/N...
EDIT:
You didn't answer if the incorrect baseband can cause bad reception... it sounds to me like it does but I just want to make sure.
I also noticed that when I reboot my device it goes back to WCDMA only automatically so everytime I reboot/power off I need to reset it to GSM only using *#*#4636#*#*

1. Same thing .
2. Yes.
3. You can check it from here that Base from your country/Provider . And you can download it from here
The problem is that Israel is not on that list, I think because we don't have LTE network and my device is LTE.
My carrier is using GSM network only.
Israel don't sell the I9505 officially, they have the I9500 available from your carriers.
Looking at the I9500 with Orange the latest I9500 modem is: I9500JKUEMJ9
Obviously do not flash the I9500 modem but you can try XXUEMJ9 from the I9505 instead.
From here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
Download the modem and flash via Odin. You can any of the I9505 modems. Just try until you get a good one, and as for LTE it doesn't matter in the network settings you will obviously be choosing 3G option instead.

I see, well, it didn't work, I flashed about 7 different modems and I still get bad reception indoors and good reception outdoors.
I will try to test other SIMs of other carriers on this device to see if reception improves.
Thank you very much for you help!

Really? I ask this question because when flashing stock 4.4.2 I had to flash a specific modem otherwise it wouldn't work. If I flash another modem different from FNA5 won't it cause problems in the ROM?

Depends what bootloader your on, I'm assuming your on the new bootloader so you need to flash both the LTE and GSM modems. I'm on a GE 4.4.2 rom and old bootloader running on an older modem and not got any issues. Try it and see what happens you can always flash another after or go back to a 4.4.2 modem.

OK thanks a bunch. If not too much trouble can you point me to a list of the modems you speak of? And is there anywhere where it's detailed how to flash both modems? When I changed modem in the previous ROM's I only had to flash one.

This thread has all the info you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
A small tip to whom ever is reading this: If you have reception problems just go to someone with the same phone model and just write down the information in about phone section such as: baseband, core, build etc so you know which one works 100% if your phone is the same model.
Anyways, nikzDHD, I9505XXUEML6_MODEM worked best, I flashed 90% of the modems... took me forever :/
