Hello all,
This is my first post here, so I'm kind of a noob, but please bear with me. I currently am using the Galaxy s4 GT-i9505 international version in which I bought in Hong Kong last month. I came back to home net network of Rogers Wireless in Canada. The major issue my area supports LTE and the phone cannot reach LTE in the status logo. (I am only getting 3G, H+, 4G) The phone is up to date with the newest in phone update of 4.2.2. This should not be happening because even in the Settings => Mobile networks => Network mode i checked under LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) option. What should I do?
Also, should I be flashing to the I337 version roms? (which is the local branded version for Rogers in Canada) Please help and help me get started, much thanks.

I'm going to delay you a little until you get a good, valid response from someone that actually knows for sure... But, I know if you flash an international ROM on an I337, it will brick the phone because some of the components are different. It seems to me that it would also brick your phone by doing the reverse, by flashing a I337 ROM on the international version.
First, you did post questions in q&a not the general forum. Second, there is a forum for the i9500, i9505 where you would probably get better answers for your device.
The canadian version is i337m...no locked bootloader as with i337
I am running an international based rom on my i337 m right now.
4g can be lte...depending on a few things..run a speedtest to be sure.
If your not getting lte speeds try to change your modem to the latest canadian version from the modem thread.

Hello,
This is a newbie question. Is it possible to convert Cricket Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-R970C to a TMobile version of S4. I know Cricket uses CDMA and Tmobile uses GSM but someone told me that S4 is the same device and only software is different between carriers. Can someone let me know if this is even possible?
thanks

I believe it is safe to assume you may add t-mobile elements software wise but the radios are different the cricket version is CDMA and T-mobile runs off of GSM which is completely different technology, so compatibility is a no go its litterally two different devices at that point, may be able to flash to sprint or verizon that works with cdma but even that im not too sure with
Hope that helps

why don't you just decompile a Tmobile ROM and just take the system.img.ext4 and recompile it? I did that to a USCC stock ROM and flashed it over to my Sprint L720 and it works perfectly.

This is an old thread I know,.
Is there anymore information on this? I have read it can be done.
From cricket to t-mobile galaxy s4
cricket galaxy s4 schr970c
I would love to take this phone to a different carrier. I realize that the cdma is an issue but there had to be another carrier that I can switch to. Does any one know how I can switch carriers using this same phone?
Yeah, i have the same question as this. Would i risk bricking my phone if i tried loading a tmobile rom and modem to my cricket phone?
Bumping this older thread cuz I see no resolution and I have a similar question...
In my research I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2409392
-The OP flashed an i9505 rom onto his R970C cricket GS4, but apparently he found it doesn't alter the modem/radio firmware, and THAT is what is different in our Cricket phones.
However, I personally am looking NOT to use this phone on a GSM network (T-mobile)..but on a CDMA (ideally Page Plus/VZW)..for that it would seem the radio is the same! -And actually I found this quote on a different forum (cricket user one):
"Cricket Galaxy S4(SCH-r970c) uses MDM9615M RF chip which includes GSM functionality which is the same chip found on Verizon Galaxy S4(SCH-i545)
Anyone try flashing a VZW firmware and also VZW modem firmware? -risk to brick it I'm sure..but, then again..maybe it just works!

I haven't done that in a long time. If you are interested in it, let me know. It's a little bit more complicated to do especially with the bringing of Samsung Knox but I feel I can try my best to help. Hello,
I recently upgraded from Xperia Arc S to Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505.
I bought my device from Hong Kong, with HK firmware. After I opened the package I put my SIM inside,
the reception was not very good. I was instructed by the company to use GSM only since there is no
LTE network in Israel as of today.
I flashed a couple of ROMs since and today I am on MIUI v5 which is my favorite, the reception remains
the same in all ROMs, quite bad compared to my old Xperia Arc S.
I was wondering about basebands and modems, I have been watching those two names floating around
the forums quite a bit and I never got around to playing with those.
So my questions are as follows:
1. Is there a different between modem and baseband or are these two just different words that refers to the same thing?
2. Does changing a baseband/modem can help get better reception?
3. If the answer to 2 is yes, which one should I get?
Thanks,
Oded
Yes modem/baseband are the same thing. Go to SamMobile website Google it, then go to the firmware section, choose the S4 find your carrier and see the latest rom for your carrier in the file name will be some letters and numbers like XXNA5 etc. This will give you a base to start with. Or tell me your operator and I can take a look.

Thanks for the quick reply. How do I find out which firmware I need to download? Israel is not in the list. My carrier is called Orange. http://orange.co.il/
behind the battery it says:
GT-I9505
SSN: -I9505GSMH
RATED
Made by...
Imei...
S/N...
EDIT:
You didn't answer if the incorrect baseband can cause bad reception... it sounds to me like it does but I just want to make sure.
I also noticed that when I reboot my device it goes back to WCDMA only automatically so everytime I reboot/power off I need to reset it to GSM only using *#*#4636#*#*

1. Same thing .
2. Yes.
3. You can check it from here that Base from your country/Provider . And you can download it from here
The problem is that Israel is not on that list, I think because we don't have LTE network and my device is LTE.
My carrier is using GSM network only.
Israel don't sell the I9505 officially, they have the I9500 available from your carriers.
Looking at the I9500 with Orange the latest I9500 modem is: I9500JKUEMJ9
Obviously do not flash the I9500 modem but you can try XXUEMJ9 from the I9505 instead.
From here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
Download the modem and flash via Odin. You can any of the I9505 modems. Just try until you get a good one, and as for LTE it doesn't matter in the network settings you will obviously be choosing 3G option instead.

I see, well, it didn't work, I flashed about 7 different modems and I still get bad reception indoors and good reception outdoors.
I will try to test other SIMs of other carriers on this device to see if reception improves.

Depends what bootloader your on, I'm assuming your on the new bootloader so you need to flash both the LTE and GSM modems. I'm on a GE 4.4.2 rom and old bootloader running on an older modem and not got any issues. Try it and see what happens you can always flash another after or go back to a 4.4.2 modem.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
A small tip to whom ever is reading this: If you have reception problems just go to someone with the same phone model and just write down the information in about phone section such as: baseband, core, build etc so you know which one works 100% if your phone is the same model.
Anyways, nikzDHD, I9505XXUEML6_MODEM worked best, I flashed 90% of the modems... took me forever :/
Hi community I got my SGs4 from China and it is i9505 but came with i337 bootloader and Baseband,TW 4.3MK2
I got this from the phoen info app:
GENERAL INFO
Phone model:GT-i9505
Device type:jflteatt
Product Name:jflteuc
FIRMWARE INFO
Bootloader version: I337UCUEMK2
Baseban version: I337UCUEMK2
PDA version: I9505ZHUEMK2/i337UCUEMJ6
CSC version: i9500ZSUEMJ6
OS INFO
Build number: JSS15J.I9505ZHUEMK2(I337UCUEMJ6)
I want to know what firmware can I flash( because I want to update to 4.4.2 but dont know the right firmware),is my bootloader locked, can TWRP be install or do i need SS? and anything you can add will be appreciated
Well I think this info is important if you need more just ask me,if you need my build.prop I´ll upload ,looks like a hybrid firmware between I9505&i337
This seems like a definite Frankenstein. AT&T bootloader and device type, I9505 PDA and phone model, and I9500 CSC.
Your first task will be to download the AT&T firmware and install it. Then you need to borrow a friend's AT&T SIM and test to see if you're getting LTE. If you get LTE, then you have an AT&T phone, regardless of what anything else says. Unfortunately, that will mean you have to use Safestrap.
How much did you spend on the phone?

Right Now I'm on mexico with Telcel, my friends are on USA T-mobile,Verizon, Try to use Telcel LTE data and it connect to 4G, LTE logo dont appears.
I went to sammobile and download the 4.4.2 from hong kong, I'll flash trough odin to see what happens
I Got it on ebay for 255 dlls when it arrive home the phone was sealed
The fact it was sealed doesn't mean much. You're the second or third person I've seen on the forum asking about this, and in the case of the first user he was able to get his device working perfectly using the AT&T firmware. Regardless, the fact you weren't able to pick up LTE is a clue. It leads me to believe that in this case the phone may be correct but the firmware wrong. Here's why.
If you had an AT&T phone, as I suspected, your phone should have picked up LTE if it was unlocked for use on any carrier, as both Telcel and Nextel use band 4, while Movistar supposedly uses band 2, bands which an AT&T phone supports (bands 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 17). Check Telcel's coverage map to be certain you have LTE coverage in your area.
Neither an I9500 nor an I9505 would pick up those LTE bands. The I9500 doesn't have LTE at all, and the I9505 has LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 20. Neither phone will get LTE in North America (including Mexico). The best those phones will do is HSPA+, which on the AT&T firmware would be labeled as 4G.
Try the firmware you downloaded, but I suspect you're going to want to return the phone if you want LTE service.

This is the scenario with my *chinese* version of the i9505.
I downloaded CPU-Z and it shows hardware: i9505, however, kernel build is a AT&T one.
I am REALLY SKEPTICAL to flash CM11 on it because I am very afraid to brick this phone. paid 300$ for it.
The funny thing is, I have the EXACT same phone as OP.
Anything I could try? please note AT&T doesn't work in Canada, nor I can borrow someone's AT&T sim card.
HOWEVER, I do have experience with a previous confirmed i337, and with bell it picked up LTE waves.
However this one doesn't.
Probably safe to flash?
I think my pat response to anyone purchasing these phones from now on will be to return them and purchase one through a Samsung-authorized retailer if Swappa isn't an option. For example, as of the time and date I write this, on Swappa there are currently 32 of the AT&T Galaxy S4 available, with prices ranging from $184 to $500US. The T-Mobile version, which doesn't have the locked bootloader of the AT&T model, has 8 devices available with prices ranging from $255-$310US. That doesn't include the Active variants or the MVNO-branded phones.
Purchasing a cell phone through eBay is, to be blunt, dangerous. You have no guarantee that the phone will be clean for activation, no guarantee that you won't have to do additional work to get the phone working, and no guarantee that the phone is even legitimate. Couple that with the buyers not doing their homework before purchasing and you get a clusterf**k of major proportions.
So, return the phone. If the seller doesn't accept returns, do a chargeback on your credit card. Or else put it up for sale as a parts phone.

Albie, can you please let me know when you get home if the phone picks up AT&T LTE waves? I am convinced this is the i9505 due to the baseband and specific board details (which correspond to the i9505 model rather than the i337, but not GPE)

I did some more snooping around desperately trying to find out more information about this phone and the last thing I remember reading about before going to bed was:
No matter what we try, this phone is with a locked bootloader after the knox 4.3 update.
Unofficial firmware can and will brick this phone resulting either in a soft-brick OR, for the more unlucky ones, even a hard brick.
BUT, I also found other contradictory posts claiming that regardless the presence of the knox update, the bootloader IS infact unlocked.
It's hard to take a side due to the lack of tools to verify if the bootloader is in fact locked.
Could you please do me a HUGE favor?
if yes:
Go to your download mode and if possibly post a snapshot of the screen. I've included mine.
For some stupid reason, even though it's a i9505, it is recognized as AT&Ts SGH-I337.
Since I don't have my camera lying around, I'll write word for word what's on my screen:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I337
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Knox Level Lock: 0x0
Knox Warranty Void: 0x0
CSB-Config-LSB: 0x30
Write Protection Enable
eMMC Brust Mode: Enabled

I want to go out of this nightmare and continue with my work.

Anxiously waiting your progress!
It's simple.
You got an SGH-I337.
You probably got a rom installed that is ported from I9505 and they didn't edit the build.prop.
I'd crack open the phone and look for the model number on the motherboard. That would eliminate any and all confusion.
MK2 & NB2 for i9505 HKong version give "secure check Fail:system" cant find answer for that......with the 4.42 firmware it gave me "secure check fail:aboot"

Thanks man ,but I follow that threat the first day my phone arrive with success, install "Samsung phone info" to look deeper, that was the moment when I realize that my phone was a mess. tried to install the custom recovery, when I went to download mode I saw the screen you posted before, try to flash official firmware from samsun gi9505 -odin giveme the "aboot fail" wich means lock bootloader so I start this threat. the rest is history.... this afternoon I check the hardware and surprise!!! "I337" was all over the phone except for the sticker in the battery slot......
Flash 4.3MK2 for i33 via Odin,it intalled super fast with no problems then follow the threat I recommend you to take the update to 4.4.4NJ4 root, intall safestrap I´m so happy with my new improve battery life and maybe tomorrow I flash wanamlite,If I was able to flash it before on mi SGS4 from verizon I guess I can flash on my new phone wich has the same hardware that i9505,becsuse I read this on te forum:

Ok I'm just a little confused.
Canadian i337m compatible marshmallow roms?
Are they jflteatt jfltexx i9505 or something else or all of the above.
(I'm running wamanlite 4.4.2 9505 rom now on my jfltecan I don't think there are any good links for it left, and when I flash a new one there will be no going back)
I know there are others confused out there as well..
If you are using marshmallow and you have flashed the rom to your Canadian s4 and all is working great.
Please post a link to that rom here
If you needed some other kernel or file to flash in to make it work
Please post that info with links also.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
(And bite me Samsung att and others for locking so many U.S. carrier boot loaders which has reduced development)
The s4 should work with the 9505, jflteatt, and jfltexx ROMs; however, editing the updater script may be required to get the ROM to install.
Hahaha - you will likely get yelled at to use the search bar and to read the stickies with these sorts of questions, but I was a noob once too, so here's an olive branch. (that being said, please do use these in the future!)
Your i337m will be cross-compatible with ALL GS4 devices (at least to my knowledge). I've had one now for a little over 4 months and have explored most of the options available to the Canadian variant. I have run everything from 4.2.2 to 5.1.1 on my device successfully, but you will have the most luck where the developer indicates that the build is for jflte devices in general, not one in particular.
Furthermore, the GS4 or ANY device sporting a Qualcomm chipset can use a modified modem file to access WCDMA/HSPA bands (ie. WIND, or T-Mobile).
Again, the search bar is your friend here! Also try Google, or Duckduckgo (google will tailor your results, sometimes in a way which will actually hinder your search).
If all else fails, send me a PM and I will assist you wherever possible.
Best of luck!

Just wondering what modem to use. Do I use the latest modem for I337M or can I use modem for I9505. I live in Canada and have always used the modems for the I337M model. The latest modem is PA1, I think for the I9505.
Hey tvsite,
Modems for this phone in Canada puzzled me for quite some time, however, this is what I did to make things work.
--> Downgraded from 5.1.1 CM 12.1 Optimized via odin using "I337MVLUAMDJ_I337MOYAAMDJ_VMC.zip" (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/14412/I337MVLUAMDJ_I337MOYAAMDJ_VMC/)to net me 4.2.2 (note: your wifi or calling WILL NOT WORK).
You may have even better luck using the SaskTel firmware at this point, although I have not tried it yet. (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/14418/I337MVLUAMDJ_I337MOYAAMDJ_BWA/)
--> Do the AWS mod, unlocking etc.
--> Upgraded to 4.4.1 using "I337MVLUFNC1_880525_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI.tar"
https://mega.co.nz/#!h8pTnCZS!t2-PiSb5W9ZyNp7fct7WD_Pg_dnc-eZqtMvpsuKv_9Q
--> I forget what modem I was on at this point, however, after letting OTA do its thing, I wound up at 5.0.1, OH1 modem, and AWS still enabled.
Good luck!

I flashed the OK1 modem which is posted, here, which is for the I337M model. I believe this is country code Mexico. This modem is working fine. Have you tried flashing a I9505 modem using Odin. I tried and it said "failed", so I may have answered my own question---that you cannot flash modems over different model numbers even though its the same phone, ie. S4
Hey all im totally new to this and i apologise if this has been covered. I had a samsung galaxy note 4 and my darling kids thought it would be an epic idea to stick things inside the charge port totally ruining it and making the phone unchargable. Go to settings/mobile networks and set apn settings manually depends on your sim carrier and country.
Just google your sim carrier apn settings and you will find easily.

I have already done apn settings and still to no avail i cant work this out for the life of me the only thing i keep thinking is that this model may not be compatible with my country as i know the sm-n910g is australia and the sm-n910k is korea i think ive bought myself a dud unless theres something i can do software wise idk any input is great imput though :/
Did you bought a new device, n910k or was it a replacement part? If you're comfortable, you can always change the USB port itself. I've done it for my Note 2 before. The USB port should be just a ribbon cable so you don't have to worry about soldering and stuffs like that. The prices are also way cheaper too.

Apparently the usb port is tricky to replace as its apart of the screen as samsung has told me and its a whole new device its the korean version im not sure what to do as the place i bought it from is a long distance away from where i live and i was wondering if there was a way i could install like the sm-n910G firmware to it. Im at my wits end with this and not sure what to do.
Oh right. I forgot about that. It was a simple plug out and in for my Note 2.
The issue right now is that the n910k, most probably does not support Australia's LTE bands. Hence the reason why you can only connect to 2G. You can check out gsmarena for the supported LTE bands for different models.
You can install a stock Note 4 Exynos firmware from another country with a carrier that uses the same LTE band as your carrier. It should be safe as some members here are able to install different firmwares meant for another device on their device, example N910G on N910F provided the CPU are the same.
Go to SamMobile, and find the firmware for Note 4 and you can see a list of Note 4 firmware available for download. You need to do some leg work though to ensure that the firmware you're flashing is meant for the Exynos version and the modem supports your carrier's LTE band.
This video shows what I'm talking about.

No don't install over the n910g over your n910k. N910k is using a different cpu than N910g. N910k uses Samsung's Exynos processor and N910g being a Snapdragon processor. Idk what would happen if you flash a N910G over a n910K but I think it would be considered lucky if your phone would be able to boot up.
Your n910k should be able to run on another firmware meant for an Exynos processor like n910c. I just don't know if, after installing over your 4G would work because of different LTE bands. But this website says there's a chance it might work.
https://www.frequencycheck.com/compatibility/zYzu9/samsung-galaxy-note-4-sm-n910c/australia
Usually in most cases, when a user accidentally installs a firmware meant for another variant, assuming they would get past the samsung boot up scene, they would not be able to get any network connections. This is due to different firmwares having different modem files for the different LTE bands. However if you were to install over a firmware with the same internals as your current device and more or less uses around the same LTE bands, it should work.

Here you go. It's every firmware ever listed. You need to create an account before downloading though and the download takes forever. You can install the firmware when your phone is in download mode using Odin via your computer.

You can try a random one. Preferably one without a telco. Example, N910C and not N910C (telco name). It shouldn't matter much as the difference would be that the one with a telco would come preinstall with the telco apps. Also, preferably from a English speaking country because usually the language would be based on country.
I would recommend you to download the original firmware for the n910k in case if this fails, you would be able to fall back to the original firmware.
