Hello. I got my Find 5 like two weeks ago and I couldn't be happier with it, coming from an awesome Galaxy S2 that was sadly getting to the end of his noble life, but there are still a couple of things that annoyingly I can't figure out.
I've been trying to sync some music playlists from my Ubuntu install, with Rhythmbox and Banshee, but neither of those detect the device. At first I thought it was a problem on the PC/Ubuntu/application side, but I've tried all the troubleshooting I've come up with with no result at all. My computer does not detect the phone as a music device, period.
Do I need the special USB drivers (which in turn would mean that I need Windows ¬¬)? Have anyone tried this with any success, either on Windows or Linux?
Thanks a lot.

FYI
A lot of people are having issues with Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista not connecting and/or recognizing your device. I also had this issue after months of endless research I accidentally discovered a semi solution. Now I have flashed numerous ROM's and synced without problems.
*Try connecting your device as your desktop is loading right after you log in to your windows profile and it makes that little melody sound. Moments after you should see the WMDC small screen start up and then the full screen follows.
The thing that sucks about this is that you have to restart the computer every time you want it to connect to your device. Only at desktop start up will it recognize your device. I hope this works for everyone please let me know. Also, hopefully someone can figure out a permanent solution.
Thanks for the tip. It's a hassle for me to connect my Wing. I usually just keep plugging it in and unplugging it until it finally recognizes it. Usually even if WMDC doesn't pop up I can access the device to manipulate data, flash ROMs, etc. And WM5torage works even if WMDC says I'm disconnected. I have to restart my computer every time I plug my WD external HDD in too. What a pain. It's too bad, because aside from those small issues I actually LIKE Vista!
(Of course, I still have an XP VM for certain tasks...)

Feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall! I have a dell vostrol 1220 (with windows 7 home premium) and I managed to connect my Touch HD to the computer with bluetooth with no problems at all. I could use the computer to listen to music from the phone etc. However the hard drive went on my dell and was replaced. I have installed all the necessary drivers and spent days looking at internet forums and tried just about everything and can still not get the connection to work as before.
It seems that the problem is that the computer cannot download a peripheral device driver for the phone. My guess is that the computer is not picking up the full phone settings (all the phone is visible) and so can then not find a suitable driver, although I might be wrong.
Anyone got any ideas, this is so frustating as it used to work ok.
Hi
this morning my omnia 7 stopped connecting to zune and win 7 (x64) started complaining about missing driver, it prompted me to download the usb phone drive from samsung website.
Now my phone had worked fine yesterday morning when i last synced it with zune and i didn't do anything except connecting it to my car cd player via usb to listen to music.
I tried everything (for 3 hours) i know about fixing driver problems but nothing worked so as last option i reset the phone to default settings.
Then connected it to zune and it worked but i have lost my 30 min of bonfire night videos but learnt my lesson (hard way) to put everything on sky drive as soon as i can. My email, contacts, calendar etc are already on windows live so no big deal there.
I have seen a thread somewhere that someone is also having same problem but cann't for life of me remember where.
Just thought i share this in case it might save some poor soul time (not local contents on the phone).
regards

same here. can't find a solution for the driver (win7 can't find the driver) so cannot sync.
EDIT - drivers seemed to install, still can't detect device. solutions? tried a lot of things with no avail.
EDIT - FIXED! Whew. I didn't think it could be a solution, but I tried the Tethering code to see if my phone was Zune synced, it wasn't. Out of the box, it was set for USB, I don't know why. Once I config. to Zune, restarted and now works fine.
Hi!
Is there already any way to fix the problem with the Xperia Play when it plugs into a PC in MTP mode and Windows can't install the driver or just doesn't allow to get in the folders of your phone?
Odd, it should just work with plug&play. Maybe you need the android sdk installed?
The Android SDK shouldn't be necessary and obviously doesn't do anything with this.
I want to use the mobile as MTP device and not a mass storage one, and Windows 7 van¡t install the proper driver, or if it installs it than sometimes doesn't detect the Xplay or takes very very veeeery long to detect it.
Any help?
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bits user.
This problem has been there a long time, and I still haven't figured it out.
Your best shot is to continue using it as a mass storage device.
This issue is absurd. USB code 10 or whatever.
The only way around it is to use XP.
I was updating my motorola xoom a while a go and half way through the update the usb driver would kack itself.
The only solution is to try out a different usb port and hope that it works.
Update windows media play to 11 it should be fixed, worked for me at least
I just live with it and waiiiiiiit until it connects (long time sometimes).
If I just want to transfer files, I switch to mass storage mode, as the transfers are much much faster that way.
Yeah, I think it is a problem with sd cards above 16gbs. The driver takes over thirty seconds to read that data and then quits. It used to work every time like a charm, when I used an 8gb sd card, but after buying a 32gb one and filling it half way, now it never reads. Kinda sucks if you want to connect the phone through your wireless router the way it was designed to too. It just won't work whatsoever. Gotta use non native apps for that, which sometimes I do not like, because I like the phone to be cohesive and every little bit of app storage space I can get makes the phone run more smoothly.

Hi there!
Since the latest bigger Windows 10 update (4-5 weeks ago) Win does not recognise my phone. I can charge it, but there is no data connection between the two. I always use the latest Xiaomi.EU ROM and I can only blame the Windows for this. There no TING sound upon connection and I do not see my phone in My Computer. I tried to (re)install drivers, but does not happen to work after several updates (different versions). It really annoys me, because it's hard to transfor big or many smaller files over WiFi, but anyways I think we can all agree on the importance of cable connection.
I tried two different cables and 4 different USB slots on PC.
Does someone have the working drivers for me?
Thanks!
I dont see my phone on my pc either but i do have a connection, as in i am able to push files to my phone with adb commands. Also i do get a ting sound when connecting but i just don't see my phone on my pc. Like 2 weeks or so ago i could see my phone on my pc but not anymore so maybe you're right about it being the windows update.
Thank you for your input. I found this topic and his software helped me. I deleted every previous ADB softwares and drivers, installed his and my phone now is showing in My Computer!
