Hey guys, I've been having a problem with the wifi on my universal for awhile, it just won't turn on, antenna stays off, no scanning, it's just off.
Going into the Wireless lan settings in the control panel "Wireless LAN OFF" is displayed, click "Turn on WLAN" it thinks for a few moments then returns to off with nothing changed.
Does anyone know if this is fixable? It doesn't appera to be a software issue, as it has continued on 3 diffreent ROMs... so i'm not sure how to proceed

I don't have Universal, But did you test an official rom or a cooked rom ?! because some of the cooked roms don't have the right wifi driver
I don't think its the driver, since 3 different ROMs, and no one else has complained about such thingcs in any of those ROM's, also it does work sometimes but thats maybe 1 in 20 reboots.

hello people, fist time poster here. had my uni for about a month now. very useful device, I was loving using the wifi until 10 mins ago when the whole device turned off randomly whilst browsing through wifi. plugged it in to charge, when starting up I get a couple of errors saying certain things won't start. now wifi doesn't start and I get the same problems as others on here. do we have a solution to this?? also, can I actually turn this device off? I've tried holding the power button on for 20+ seconds and had no joy.

You mean "really" off, like as no battery would be inside?
Nope, you can't
You can switch the active pda part off and set it to silent, but this wouldn't prevent the device from switching back on on phonecalls. Even if you turn off the radio stack it still would power the display's backlight on and show a notifier if a reminder was set up.
Really turning it off is only possible by removing the battery. Yes, it is a windows mobile device.
Concerning your problems after the crash you should be fine by coldbooting after recharging the battery. The latter one often causes some troubles with the Uni.

Yep.. I hate this, i have the same problem and i havent found any solutions
WiFi also dead but on a HTC Artemis
Hi Guys,
I have the same problem but on my HTC Artemis aka XDA Orbit. Only occurred when I was flashing with different ROMS. Even when i flashed original ROM still same thing.
I did read on the forum somewhere that the issue was due to the device not having a valid mac address.
Anyone shed any light on this matter?
There are tools out there for other HTC devices to get Wifi back but not sure if they will work on the uni as they dont work for the artemis.
i was able to get my wif working bygoing into the wireless manager then network cards and had to change it so they all were set to connect to the internet

hi @ all
this tread is a bit "past" but now i got the problem mentioned by balur. i used google and the forum search, but i was not able to find a solution. i hope smb. can help me, because i need the wifi on friday!
I solved the problem of Wi-Fi turning off by going to ActiveSync - Connection Settings and enabling "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" option.
Wifi Stopped Functioning after flashing Roms
I have had similar wifi problems with my uni,
My uni was working perfectly for a long while when using "Tomal's 7.7" with Radio 1.18 . . . since then I tried testing with "T-Mobile official ROM AKU3.3" where the flash process when without a hitch.
However I had to change roms again since the T-Mobile rom wasn't very good. but i never got as far as testing the wifi
- - - -
I then tried to flash Tomal's 8.5 Beta, I ran into problems, and was stuck at the bootloader, I tried unlocking the uni with mtty, But i had copied and pasted the commands, and it kept on returning errors, after disconnecting and connecting with mtty again i tried typing in the commands and successfully unbricked my uni.
I attempted to flash Tomal's 8.5 Beta again, this time it worked without a hitch, but then I couldn't turn on wifi.
Wifi cannot be turned "on" from the comm manager or from WLAN. It just remains "off".
So I tried flashing back to Tomal 7.7 and wifi still didn't turn on.
Then I tried flashing Tomal 8.5 Beta again and still no wifi.
I've now tried flashing Radio 1.15 and - still no wifi
- - - -
I havn't the foggiest why wifi isn't functioning at all. Have I messed things up when I copied and pasted the commands into mtty?
Or did flashing the T-Mobile rom cause the problem?
No WIFI
Same here. I've tried 2 different upgrades now and the WIFI simply will not turn on. I've tried all the tricks in this thread, still no WIFI. anyone any ideas?

Welcome to the forum
Try doing a hard reset or flashing another ROM
Good luck and don´t forget to vote!
My sister just got a HTC Legend as her birthday present. We have been playing around with the device and tuning it to her liking.
We have run into a problem with the wifi. The phone will only connect to the wifi after rebooting the modem and after a short while it disconnects and won't reconnect no matter what. The wifi just stays disconnected in the settings.
The router uses WPA2.
Already read somewhere that it's a bug in the kernel, if so where can I get a fixed kernel and how do I install it? Any other fixes?
Thanks ~Tuukka
My S4 keeps reconnecting to my wifi for some reason. I get the toast notification saying "Connected to <SSID>" that will sometimes pop up every 5-30 seconds, but it never goes more than 30 minutes without doing it. My router is an Asus RT-AC66U. I've tried forcing 2.4Ghz only, 5Ghz only, changing the preamble (short, long, auto), changing the channel (manually specifying each channel, and also tried auto), and even manually assigning an IP address on the phone. None of these things help.
I have "check for internet service" under the advanced wifi options disabled, and also have it set to keep wifi on during sleep.
The phone shows Very Good signal quality. Using wifi analyzer shows a signal strength of between -45 to -68 db, depending on what room I'm in, so that's definitely not the issue. It even does it sitting in the same room as the router. No other devices have an issue, including my roommate's S3.
I can fix it by turning off wifi power save mode (*#0011#), but then my phone heats up quite a bit whenever I'm using it, and my battery drains at 10%/hour even when I'm not connected to wifi. So that's not really a solution.
Is there any other fix for this? It's a bit ridiculous. I'll load a webpage and it'll interrupt halfway through when it re-connects to wifi. Since it keeps reconnecting to wifi, it causes all the phone's connections to be re-initiated, and also seems to trigger Google Services to update the phone's location. This results in Google Services (NetworkLocationLocator) holding a wakelock for 1/3 of the time.
So it seems the problem was IPv6, specifically IPv6 that autoconfigures. All the wifi networks I typically use are dual stack IPv4/IPv6. What I'm guessing happens is that the phone doesn't wake up for some of the IPv6 broadcasts, and then the phone reconnects to fix this once it realizes it's out of sync. Turning off power save mode means it gets all these packets and doesn't have to reconnect.
So I fixed it by having Tasker disable IPv6 on wifi whenever it connects to a wifi network (it's re-enabled if you disable wifi or reboot). Run this as root:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/disable_ipv6
I wonder if this is just a bug in the chipset, or if it's a driver issue that can be fixed in a later update.
I had the exact same issue with mine (same router) and solved it by disabling WMM APSD in the router settings. Wireless>professional tab>5GHz drop down box>Enable WMM APSD>Disable.
A guy in the other GS4 Q&A forum gave me this solution and I haven't had an issue with it since.
I have this same issue... so when my Wi-Fi is dropping like that, I disable the Wi-Fi power save mode by dialing *#0011# then pushing the menu button and selecting the Wi-Fi option from the pop-up, the psm button is there. Fixes it every time, doesn't stick thru a reboot tho.

Hello, I'm having the same problem but I'm new to Tasker and don't know where to put that command. Would you mind showing me how to implement it please? Thanks.
Edit: Nevermind, I think I figured it out.
S4 will not store setwork
I'm running SACS Custom 7.1 with Faux kernal, and since I update to 7.1 from v7, my phone doesn't save any wifi profiles I connect to. Another thing I've noticed is no image shows up when recieving a call, so I have no idea who is calling. I got a 3rd party caller id from the market to fix that, but still a strange issue.
I am experianced with phones, but haven't posed enough here to post in SACs page, so any ideas would be helpful.
I tried looking at settings from 3minit or XPOSED, but nothing has changed since V7, so I'm wondering where to look.
The wifi profile shows up in data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf, but only the one I am connected to at the time. If i disconnect and reconnect I need to re-enter the password.
Not important but annoying.
Thanks for your help in advance, you guys are awesome!

Wifi issue is faux kernel flash a different kernel. A module from xpose is the culprit sorry I forgot which one was it. To solve all your problems just do a clean install of v7.1 and when doing that make sure you click stock kernel or flash a preferred kernel. I dont use xpose so I dont have that problem so its your choice if you want to use it just read like 10 pages from the thread to find your answer.

I have to do this same thing and it works for me perfectly. A little bit of a hassle after reboots, but it works. I sent this to Samsung and they've opened a ticket on it (reportedly) to be addressed as they've had a lot of complaints about WiFi areas with multiple Access Points.
Ok so i got my Nexus 4 yesterday and of course BT (Motorola Elite Silver) connects and then within 3/4 seconds will disconnect and it does this continuously. I really need BT to work. I have flashed cm10.1-rc4, night-lies and other roms as well and the same problem persists. I went to three, thats right three T-Mobile stores today and tested the same BT on their phone and it worked flawlessly. One of the Nexus 4 had Android 4.2 (JOP40C) and base-band .33 while the other two had 4.2.2 and base-band .48. Wifi was ON on all these devices and i did not notice and issue with them. My BT stayed connected for over 5mins and i even turn it on/off as well as the BT toggle on the phone and every time it worked without disconnecting or exhibiting any issue. I should also mention that i have flashed base-band .33 and the problem still exists. Does anyone know where i can download a dump of the Nexus 4 for t-mobile?
Is it possible that i have a faulty hardware?
Is there a way to unload the BT stack and reload it to test?
I did discover that when i connect the phone to my computer and the "usb debugging connect" message shows up, the BT/WIFI does not disconnect and works as normal. Now if i disconnect the cable it starts acting up again. Maybe a dev here will be able to figure it out now but that is the behavior i have noticed all through out my testing.
PS: i also have a BlueAnt Q2 and it does connect and sometimes disconnects. WIFI when the BlueAnt Q2 is connected becomes really unstable and disconnects.
Are you undervolting? Any custom kernels? If not, try flashing one. Does it work fine with WiFi off?

No, i am not undervolting. I have tried CM10.1 nightlies and RC4. Even with WIFI off the problem still continues. I am trying to download google 4.2.1 and see if it still a problem.
I use a Bluetooth headset too, and from what I know, in many ROMs, Bluetooth does not work well with WiFi. If both is on, my WiFi will definitely lose connectivity, and/or my Bluetooth will lose connectivity. Either way, they just cannot coexist together.
Turning off my Wi-Fi is the only way I can get my Bluetooth to work.
I think our units are defective. I already called Google and they are sending NEW replacement out to me asap. I don't get how the t-mobile store once worked. The weird part about mine is if the phone is connected to my PC, it works fine. I just can't figure it out.
Tested another one today and it worked flawlessly.
