Need a dock for TPT1 - Thinkpad Tablet General

I have a first generation Lenovo ThinkPad (1838-25U?) with a very broken microusb port(can't be fixed).
If I get a dock, will it be able to charge the tablet?
And the most important question....Where can i buy one????

NO one????????????????????????

Yes, it will charge directly on the dock. Quite a bit faster, actually.
I am surprised to not find any cheap docks online anymore. Seems like 6 months ago Amazon was selling them for $18...
Keep your eye on eBay. It's odd to not find many though.

My TF doesn't do quick charge anymore..!

So after the weekend FW update for TF, my TF doesn't do any quick charge any more after charging from the AC Adapter...it doesn't have the thunder lightnight charging indication in the battery icon but charging very very slow
Anyone has been losing the quick charge capability after the 7/16 FW OTA update? It seems their attempt to fix the battery-drain doc issue causing other issue of the tablet's battery charing itself!
I'm have my own accidental insurance from Walmart - and I'm getting the replacement (that's $80 accidental damage insurance I paid during the checkout at walmart.com - now I feel I was smart with that choice!)
Anyone if none answers, I'm getting the new or repaired one (probably new one since my current one was "ACCIDENTALLY" dropped in the water totally submerged so I don't think they will be able to fix it at all - that's SMART way to get the new replacement one!
thx you all
Mine stopped being able to quick charge Saturday night. I did not update , running prime. My wall charger will charge, but trickle only, not full power. No charge icons. I have tried factory reset and reseating the prongs in the wall adapter. Im stumped. I dont have a dock so im now gonna have to. All Asus and see what they recommend.
What is quickcharge? Never heard of this...
The transformer will either charge fast, on the provided wall adapter, takes about three hours tops for a full charge or slow trickle charge on usb which can take over twelve hours.
That could be the conspiracy - Asus wants all Asus TF owner to spend additional $150 for their tablet - It's Taiwanese company, they can do anything they want to in US market LOL
Pretend to be the hotfix to fix the battery drain of the tablet while docking to the keyboard dockstation but in the reverese to cause another issue on the tablet alone that it won't be doing quick charge unless plug into the dockstation - I could see it all possibly happen
Asus - you heard that? F U! Ah I still use your product for another 2 years but I will get new one for every 12 months because I have the accidental damage insurance - they will replace me a new one when I want to hahahah!

I really hope you're not serious.
If asus was the devil they would charge $500 for the tablet and another 200 for the dock so "clever" customers would think they're getting a "premium" device like an apple product.
found it why I lost my quick charge - it is because of my charging cable - freaking charging cable!!!! it is broken at the round proprietary connector - in now way to defect the way how the charging cable connect to the tablet but somehow it is degraded and allow only trickle charge
Who cares,,,I'm sending them all back to Walmart to get the replacement one I meant whole unit tablet & power ac, charging cable since I bought my accidental damage insurance....$80/2year - pretty good deal and feel good that I purchased the coverage plan at that time!
thx,
rcjpth
I can't see any sort of damage or wear on my cable. Looks as good as it did out of the box. I still can't quick charge. Trickle does work, i went and bought a dock today at best Buy. The dock works and charges the tablet, however now its dead and the cable wont chage the dock either. so its either the cable is bad somehow or the wall adapter is bad. either way im pissed. ASUS tech support is uselss they too my information and hung up and said they'd call back. There arent ny more chargers in stock anywhere. Im just ****ed unless i want to return it to tiger direct.
Sending the whole thing back and buying something else is the only option in the US since you cannot actually buy the cable anywhere as far as I know. Once the cable is gone, you can't use the tablet.

I don't think the TF or it's dock was every designed to change from a 5 Volt source such as a USB 2.0 port. I have not seen any documentation from Asus giving you that option.

Also impossible. Been over 30 days since buying it at Tiger Direct, they directed me to ASUS support phone number where an Indian Man took my information and hung up on me saying they'd get back to me.

Is it worth it? (Acer Dock)

I am considering purchasing the dock. I don't need HDMI or the audio port etc.
My plan is to use the A500 as a chumby-like device beside me at night time. So, clock, weather, etc. and a quick touch to dim or light it up.
That being said, is the dock worth it? Does it work well? Mostly I'm concerned about the remote, I'm sure I'll be using that a lot.
I have read that it never used to, but now works nicely in 3.2, but I'd like to verify that here before I drop 50 bucks on it.
Thanks.
If that's all you want it for, save yourself the money and just buy a cheap tablet stand...

And where do I find a remote that will work with it that's small and neat?
Unless you're willing to pay a lot of money just for a remote, I'd have to agree with FloatingFatMan.
While I really want a dock, paying $55 USD for the official Acer dock and another $20 for a power supply (because it doesn't come with one) is crazy, considering the limitations. It's really nothing more than an expensive piece of plastic with a power pass-thru and audio connector.
I think that dock would be good if they droped the price or released a version 2.0 with a power supply, USB, and HDMI (granted, you mentioned you wern't looking for those features).
A simple $5 generic tablet stand and nightstand app will do everything you're looking for... just without the cheap-feeling remote that the Acer dock comes with.
If you really want a remote there are several good Bluetooth versions that will work. I saw some threads with people using a Jabra 3030
Hell, I bent an old coat hanger into a DIY stand and it works great. Not aesthetically pleasing mind you, but it works amazingly for what its worth.

I have to agree with the others...
As an owner of the dock, I'm very disappointed. Everything the others say about it is true. A basic tablet stand would likely serve you better. Note that I really don't use the remote, though.
Inexpensive tablet stand
Here's a link to an inexpensive, folding tablet stand. I don't own this, but it has many positive reviews.
http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Portabl...TAB1/dp/B000CKVOOY/ref=acc_glance_e_ai_ps_t_4
Thanks for the responses. The answer is, yes I really do want the remote. I was only thinking about the dock on behalf of the fact that it would be 2 solutions in 1.
1. I'd get a remote. I haven't been able to source any neat/small bluetooth remotes
The only one I've seen for less than $40 is the PS3 remote and I doubt that's compatible with the A500 in terms of all the relevant functions. There's another, $40 by SMK-Link but again, not sure if it works with the A500 and it's too big anyway.
and...
2. The dock would serve as my charger so I didn't have to fumble for the cord to plug the tablet in every time. I could just drop it on the dock when I'm heading to bed. Afaik the tablet's charger works with the dock, so I wouldn't need to spend another $20, it's not like I need 2 anyway.
The dock isn't absolutely necessary. It just takes a few extra movements to plug it in anyway. I'd gladly save a few bucks on skipping the dock. The remote is the real issue at hand. While I want the tablet to be like a chumby, I also want it to be my music player as mentioned. After I'm done playing with it beside the bed and I've set my alarm, I don't want to have to stretch over to fiddle with it if I don't like the song being played. Likewise, I don't want to have to fiddle with it while manipulating/navigating the netflix app.
If you guys could recommend to me a good bluetooth remote control I'd be happy. I still haven't been able to source a good one. The Jabra 3030 is $60-90 and a bit more than I need but less than I want. I don't need a device to stream music through headphones to me, I already have a great bluetooth speaker system set up in my bedroom. The Street also is missing a directional pad.
I already own the Arkon. That's what I use to dock it now. It serves it's purpose as a dock nicely in terms of leaving it be, but in cases where you need to touch the tablet, it isn't as practical since if you're not careful, touching the tablet ends up fumbling your configuration/angles...even though the hinges are for the most part quite tight.
I'm sad to hear that the dock is disappointing, but for what I want it seems I may not have a choice.
Thanks again for your responses and advice. I look forward to hearing your suggestions. I've searched up and down the net' and haven't been able to find a small, tidy control like the one that comes with the A500 dock.
Gentle Alarm's Night Mode + my 10 dollar Merkury Innovations Stand is more and adequate enough on my dresser, plus it looks sexxy .
The Docks current setup is just not worth the money, unless you need a 50+ dollar remote for the brag factor.
I have that stand it works real nice.
it's definitly not worth it !
i had one for another tab. save ur money, and just take a good case
Dock purely for charging?
So there are no cheaper docks purely for charging?
I know I can get a cheap stand and plug in the power cable, that's what I use now - A $3 business card holder from OfficeWorks and the original charger.
But I want a dock that I can throw my tab at, and have it slide in and start charging.

I caved and got the Acer Dock. There are just no alternatives for the remote and being able to just sit the device on something and have it charge is a nice bonus over having to plug it in every time.
Not sure why so many are complaining about it. I half expected it to crumble while using it or that it just wouldn't work the way some owners complained of how cheap it was on Amazon. But I read some of the 4 star reviews and went ahead with the purchase.
But the dock works well, the remote works very well, better than I expected and the dock isn't that 'cheap' to me. Then I again, I don't equate something made of plastic to being cheap so that may just be me.
For what it does, allowing you to sit your tablet down to charge AND coming with the remote control (that I can find no alternatives for), it's well worth it to me...you just have to stomach the $50. If you consider the dock to be 20/25 and the remote to be 25/30 (that's what I did), it doesn't feel like a waste of money. Granted, if you don't want the remote then it would definitely feel like paying too much but I haven't found any charging bases either way, and I don't think you ever will since it's a proprietary slot.
I'm considering getting one of these docks.
Its handy to have an audio connection that doesn't use the 3.5ml jack, preventing the jack from getting worn down whenever you want to play music at home.
Let alone not wearing down the solder for the charging port (I hate the charging port, am really disappointed the tab cant charge over its micro USB, but thats a whole separate rant eheh)
I originally thought I should get a second charger and dock, but since using custom roms my battery life has gotten so good that I can leave my only charger at home on a dock and not have to worry.
My battery is usually on 70% ~ 65% remaining by the time I get home, including daily web usage, 2 hours of video playback, and general fiddling here and there.
If there was a cheaper stand that utilised the Dock port, i'd strongly consider it, but since this is the only one I know of that has the port for audio, remote control and charging. if I could get one for 50 bucks I would be very happy.
unfortunately in Aus they're price point is ****ty (aus retail sucks) so Its probably going to cost me $65~

If you could charge via the USB, you would wear it down twice as fast. That's because you can't charge it connected to a PC because its USB port simply cannot supply the needed current to charge the battery. So you would have to plug in a charger and unplug it every time you need to connect to a PC for file transfer. Not to mention that this would make developement of applications with A500a pain in the a## because you will be discharging the battery while connected unless you allow it to go to sleep and have to wake and unlock every time you run your app (which would still discharge the battery but slower).
Acer did not put the extra production effort/cost in having more ports just to make your life miserable

Will I need an Adapter

Tomorrow when I get to my office my Note should be there waiting for me. It is coming from Handtec, I am in the USA. Will I need to bring with me an adapter for the charger? ALSO. The charger that comes with the Note, is it like the one that comes with the Galaxy Tab? Sort of iPhone-looking connector - Or (fingers crossed) is it a NORMAL USB mini or regular connector?

No, any microUSB charger will do. I am trying to find a more powerful charger at least at 1A. Anyone have suggestions for a cheap one online? I may check out Target when I am in the states next week.

You will not be able to use the charger that comes with it in the USA without an adapter. It is made for European markets. You can plug the cable with the mini usb and usb connections into a computer to charge it until you get a charger that works here. Buying an adapter is a waste of money. You can buy a charger most anywhere for next to nothing. I bought 4 or 5 on Amazon for $2 or $3 including shipping.
check this out..

When I had the Galaxy S 2 I used the iPhone charging cube (which is 1A) to charge my GS2 faster and IMHO it is the best charger for Samsung phones in terms of power, portability, and looks. Definitely worth looking into.

I probably have some chargers and I have several adapters too, but HATE THEM. I will bring an adapter with me to the office and then try out chargers at home. Wonder if the one that I plug my iphone/ipad/into works. OR .. I can use the one from my Galaxy Tab 7" right? Then when I sell the Tab (it has phone also) I can give them some other charger.
I am quite fond of the HTC travel charger that came with my mytouch 4g:
search for: 79h0009814m
It's nice and compact.
warning though: I bought a black one off of amazon and it seems to be fake - it doesn't charge nearly as fast as the one that came with my mytouch 4g. It's still compact so I still use it a lot.

Iphone/ipad charger will work if you connect it with cable that comes with the Note (use the mini USB connection for the phone and plug the USB connection into the charger.) One from Galaxy Tab 7" will work as well.

You can use the GTab7's charger, but when you sell it you really should include the proper charger as regular USB chargers will only trickle charge the GTab7.
The Note's charger is 5V/1A, so you should be able to find many suitable chargers for it very cheaply.

Dave
I got a nice, thin rectangular charger with my jawbone headset. The first jawbone. I like that the prongs fold in on that charger. would love for it to work on my note.

Who has owned both a 201 and a 300?

I am so conflicted at this point, I have owned a 201 before getting the 300. There are some things I really miss on the 300 that the 201 had, namely haptic feedback and the super IPS+ screen. But then there are things I like about the 300, strong gps and wifi, similar performance to the 201 and a $380 price, ugh, so torn.
I have 2 dongles and the keyboard for the 201, so torn as to what to do.
I guess I'm just asking for some opinions, both good and bad.
Edit: And the camera flash on the 201.

And I have a quick question for those of you that own both......I just bought a wall plug charger for the TF201 hoping it would work with the 300, but no dice. This new 201 charger won't charge the 300. If someone owns both, would you mind checking if your TF201 charger works with your 300? I thought I read somewhere that the chargers were interchangeable. I'm trying to determine if I got a bum power cord or if the power cables are just not interchangeable.
Thanks!

Try putting just the charger part in a ziplock baggie, get as much air out as possible and put it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes. Sometimes the overheat safety gets stuck and that pops it back.
I had that issue with my 201, put it in the freezer and away it went.
I've owned and returned two 201 units. Purchased a TF101 to tide me over until the 700 infinity drops. Personally, I think it's better to spend a bit more for a better product. I am happy with the TF101 and will keep it along with the 700. But if I was on a budget and had to choose between the 201 and 300 (based on feedback from the 300), I would stick with the 300. You could also try to get a more current manufactured 201 (05/12) they should have all the quirks worked out by now(?).
I have two power adapters that I purchased for the 201 and a stock from the TF101 and they are all interchangeable. What you have to make sure of is that the power adapter is the correct voltage 10W/18W. Most off market are not. I purchased from office depot, they had the same authentic asus power adapter when they were sold out from Asus estore. What's nice is adapter kits cable is much longer than the cable that came with the device. The Asus website lists this adapter as useable with all models SL101/TF101/TF201/TF300T. If you should need a sync cable make sure it's a powered cord (3.0); I can confirm this cord works perfectly.

I saw the OEM chargers but they are $30 bucks and didn't want to spend that much on what was going to be just an extra charger for travel. I bought this one on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=180869444176&view=all&tid=817560853008
The specs on the plug seem to be the same as the OEM plug that came with the TF300, which is 5V output and 2100mA. I think I got a bad plug I guess if they are all supposed to be interchangeable. The cable part worked fine with the other charger.
2100mA <-- Sorry, I don't know what that means. This looks more like a battery spec.
on the charger I have it lists:
input 100-240V~0.5A
output 5Vdc/2A or 15Vdc/1.2A
The ebay link no longer works. I've found its sometimes better to spend a bit more on these types of items, the majority of really cheap after market cables are usually no good and sometimes dangerous. I will only use after market items by referral or if it has loads of good feedback.
Edit: I found the item and it looks like the wrong adapter. The specs are not listed in the description. Be careful with the stuff from china hongkong. It's usually junk. Takes so long to receive and by the time you have a chance to test it and discover a problem you are usually beyond the 30 day return window.
Hopefully you will be able to file a claim with ebay to get your money back since it's an international sale and will cost more to return than the price of the item. They take advantage of that.
Don't go against your instinct. you know deep down you want to keep the prime. don't settle for the downgrade. its going through its own growing pains also, as you can see from the various threads here & in QnA. Some of the same issues are being seen here on 300. except 300 "shouldn't" even be having them since it has a plastic back(wifi issues).
take another look at the Positive Transformer thread in my sig. to joggle your memory on how great it is..lol.
300 is cool though, for the lower price. just not as high spec or powerful as the prime.
good luck deciding.

The plug basically has the same specs as yours. 2100mA is just 2100 milli-amps which is 2.1 amps like yours. Same 5V DC output. Oh well. I guess i just got a bum unit. I've actually bought lots of these types of charges on eBay for cell phones, computers, tablets, iPads, iPods, over the years and this is the first one I have received DOA.
Anyway, thanks for the info about the interchangeability.
I've owned both and can say it is really hard to choose.
Prime wins at -
screen brightness, clarity, colors were better
Built a little better IMO
Flash for camera
Thinner
Gorilla glass opposed to tf300 "hardened glass"
Tf300 wins at
Wifi range and speed greatly improved
GPS is better
Cheaper
SD card slot does not stick out at all
All the outer buttons seem a little nicer and snappier
Sound is better through speaker. Louder and clearer
Rubber surrounds the screen to aid in absorbing impact on drops.
IMO the system runs smoother on the tf300
So if you can check more in one list that matter than the other than I'd say get that one. You really can't go wrong ether way

I have both and you know the differences, just pick which ones are important.
I use a 201 at work and have not had wi-fi issues (C3 serial). I feel better with the gorilla glass and the look is great.
I bought a 300 for home use. yes, you can feel the difference between the metal and plastic screen...but more as a difference than a better/worse.
Thinner...hard to tell.
IPS doesn't matter to me.
Flash doesn't matter to me.
The price difference did. If I was to buy a third one, I would go with the 300.

Wireless charging Orb

When this drops, will you be looking to purchase it? I think I'll probably get it if it's under $30 bucks... I'm hoping it's much cheaper but trying to have realistic expectations. Unless they've revolutionized how fast it will charge, induction charging is more for novelty IMHO, but no less... What do you think?
Definitely

I hacked my Galaxy Nexus to work with a Palm Touchstone and I can never go back. I have one at home and at the office, they're both really convenient. So yes, I'll be grabbing two for sure.
Is the wireless charger included or not?

I assume it'll be a separate accessory. Correction, a SECKSY separate accessory! :good:
I'm looking to get two of these, one for home and one for work. I hope they aren't too expensive, but I won't hold my breath. Then again, if you'd told me the NExus 4 would be £240, I'd have laughed.
I still have my palm pre one. I wonder if that will work?

I've read that any Qi standard charger will work. We shouldn't have to get the stock one. At least we can price shop.
im planning to get one..but does it charge as fast?
No, wireless charging is a bit slower than a cable
I guess it depends on the price...
The N4 will be compatible with any wireless charging source as long as it supports the standard.
Touchstone chargers can be had on eBay for around $6 so I will be picking up a few from there unless Google's are pretty cheap.
Is anyone else excited about the possibility of finally being able to buy a good universal car dock with wireless charging and not having to buy a new one now on with new phones (assuming that the new phones start coming with wireless charging) ?
Can we do cable charging + inductive charging at the same time?
Will it charge faster?
Wireless charging future
Imagine one day in future where universal wireless charging orb is a standard on every office desk. Can't wait for that day to come.
Can't imagine them pricing it too high, judging by the price of the nexus 4 itself, I'd imagine the wireless charger will be priced what it's truly worth, probably around $20.
If it were apple selling it, it'd be $100 :silly:
I just bought 2 of the touchstone pads for 5 bucks each off eBay just in case they do work for it. Even if they're slower than the nexus versions at least I have backups
