Try these methods - How to take Samsung Galaxy S4 screenshot?

We have a light sensor

Major find people.
The proximity sensor that we have is in fact light sensor / proximity sensor combo.
Its name is GP2A
Samsung disabled light sensor (in kernel) probably by either modifying drivers to exclude the light part or by removing driver completly
I managed to find kernel driver for this sensor (from some unknown device), which link you can find below:
http://o2droid.phj.hu/trac/browser/kern_oII/drivers/sensor/optical/gp2a.c?rev=2
So kernel devs, rock on!!!
maclaw and all devs should know this.
hope it works this kernel driver :fingers-crossed:, the s3 mini should be factory the auto brightness
Great there is still hope for light sensor !! Just inform devs

Thank you for the info ppero196, this is most pleasant news...cheers buddy....who knows, maybe samsung gonna include the driver is some future update

Haha I can't believe it, that link refers to a Omnia2Droid page! It's an old team who ported Android 2.1/2.2 to the Omnia 2/Pro (WinMo 6.x devices) years ago, I had one of those with that buggy droid installed
Edit for developers - that driver comes from a Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica (Android 2.1),a device launched in 2009
Edit2 - found this driver from google https://android.googlesource.com/ke...2929fc99325ee399fd9/drivers/input/misc/gp2a.c
and this one,the most recent one https://bitbucket.org/sarcastillo/redpillkernel/src/990eb0053acb/drivers/input/misc/gp2a.h
Woooo, hope at last!

1. Don't get so excited. Even if it's light sensor also, other hardware parts can still prevent us from using light sensor function.
2. Galaxy Spica doesn't have any proximity/light sensor - I have a Spica
3. Drivers which you attached are completely useless on Jellybean & 3.x kernels.
Sure, getting working something completely broken by Samsung is most important for me at this moment...
It isn't so easy to get light sensor working, I'm not sure if it is possible.
But we will look into it and check it out.

Ok, just 10 minutes in Google and:

Samsung didn't cut a hole for light part of our sensor... So there's no way for getting it working
Well there was a hope...

I think it's very hard. If I not wrong, Samsung's AMOLED panel is in one piece with the capacitive buttons and the sensors and the front speaker except camera. so I think it's hard to make a hole on it
Wait...s3 has 2 holes and has light sensor. WTF?!!!

I thing there is no chance to get it working :/ I had dismantle my s iii mini and looked on the sensor and there is only proximity. I am refer to pdf from New Macław's post. If you open it you will see on first page two types os senzors.I thing tahet we have the "Upper left" type and there is no ambient part :/

It says the proximity sensor is combined with light sensor, part number cm3623. Galaxy s4 mini has only 3 holes on front panel, 2 for proximity and 1 for front camera. But it HAS light sensor and auto brightness. My question is: Is it possible that it uses the IR sensor part of the proximity sensor for light sensor? I think it is.

Smart Scrolling...

Smart scrolling feature apparently isnt working... I've noticed when I'm browsing that small green eye does not show up on the screen...
Is it normal or its the settings issue... Although I do see that little eye (greyed out) on top on my screen all the time ... It changes to white at times and then turns back to grey ....
Can anyone plz tell me what to do....
Thanks

Are you using the original browser and not , for example Chrome etc. ?
When you see the green eye, it will work.
Smart scrolling works better if you actually move your head up and down, not just your eyes.
The other mode is , you have to tilt the phone back or forward to scroll.

I believe so... But some how at times it says to enable smart scroll enable at least one of the relavent functions.... Very strange... I believe all functions r enabled... More over when I try to test this function under help, it still doesn't do anything....

One of two possible reasons:
1. The sensor doesn't detect your eyes due to low light. Good light conditions are crucial.
2. Software or hardware fault

Yes... All features are activated.... Still no luck..
At times when I switch it off and switch it on again it says....
To enable Smart Scroll, enable at least one of the relevant function...

Smart Scroll on Samsung Galaxy S4 lets you scroll a web page via tilting your Head or Device. The camera sees your eyes and then you can move your Head or* your device to start scrolling. Follow these steps:
*
1.Go to Setting
2.Go to My Device tab
3.Tap on and open “Smart Screen”
4.Tap on the actual words “Smart Scroll” and make sure it is enabled
5.There, you have 2 options
************* a.Tilting head: you need to move your head to scroll
************* b.Tilting device: you need to move your device to scroll

Mate,
It's still not working... By the way is it in any way connected to any samsung apps??? The reason being that I have disabled some of the Samsung apps (which I thought were a bloatware)...
For your info, my front camera seems to be working fine... No problems what so ever...
By the way is there any way that I can check specifically if its a software or hardware issue??? if yes, plz let me know exactly what I should be check with regards to hardware/software...
Thanks in advance

Marhaba. It uses the other sensors to detect eyes. Actually an infrared led light. I believe it wont work with light behind you.
Anyways in the settings did you touch the area to the left of the on button? There is a deeper menu there.
Finally iyit seems like a siftwarw bug. Do you ever see the notification icon turn white from gray to indicate tracking?

Please close this thread. ... I figured what the problem was....
[SOLVED]
It was due to the app LightFlow.... When u enable it in Phone Settings under Accessibility, u lose certain featues rather I should say they stop working....

Currently incompatible with 4.3, however
I don't like the idea of the phone being in the pocket, and turning itself on because of pressure touches in the screen...
Also keeping the phone always 'listening' for touches will fore sure take a toll on the battery.
try this app "Gravity Screen - On / Off" , no root required

Taking a Screenshot

Firstly, Mod if there is already a thread on this topic please move my post there.
I'm experiencing serious problems when trying to take a screenshot with the palm swipe. I had no problem whatsoever on my S III. I'm disabled & can't use the shortcut.
Ideas? TX

I just tried the palm swipe and I realized I had to press on the screen with more force than on the S3 (I've tried both). Also I think air gesture has to be toggled on (as well as palm motion obviously )

Just remembered to respond. Air Gesture was turned off. That said, I remember taking a few screenshots just after I got the phone & AG was definitely off. I also read a bit more about this feature. Supposedly you can hold a finger ~3" over the sensor & it'll activate. Not on my phone...

It's been my experience that I have to physically touch the screen in order for the screen wipe to take a screenshot. I've also found this feature somewhat unreliable as it sometimes moves the screen and then takes a shot of a screen that I have no interest in.
