Ok so it's Emulator time, we all want to run the classics. I've heard bad things about Mupen and I just haven't really ever found better then N64oid.
So here's what I'll be going over.
How to Configure Mariokart and Mario64 to run without issue,
Some Bluetooth controller options and a few other Emu tests.
I won't tell you where to get N64oid or Roms. I will tell you N64oid,GBCoid, Segaoid or whatever, Nesoid, Snesoid and just about any other EMU oid is made by the developer of N64oid, it does look like he quit Deving back in april of last year but the Emu's are some of the best out. their Banned from Google play but he has a section Legitly on Slideme, google it. don't ask for anymore help on obtaining this stuff.
Ok so legal hangups over lets get to the fun, what do you need ?
A way to side load apps, root would be handy, Google play install will help you tremendously, if not. It's up to you to obtain the ,APK''s and install them.
Apk list I run but not required. :: N64oid, Root explorer, Wiimote app, Sixaxis App.
with N64oid you really just need the N64oid and roms.
Ok so sideload over N64oid and And install it with root explorer or ADB. once installed load up your roms somewhere on the Ouya or memory card of your choice.
Load a rom , Say MarioKart, as it's loading go into the N64oid menu by hitting the Ouya's controller sync/power button. this brings up woure menu, mouse or joystick to the more option. Open up settings and do these steps, disable virtual keypad in visual settings, go to other options menu and check the box labeled use other input option. go back to video settings and change frame skip to 0. ok last step, go into input settings and Bluetooth gamepads. go to keymappings and setup the ouya controller the way you like, you can even save mutton layouts per game.
So what next? well you see it's simple GO PLAY ! ....or don't and read more. So N64oid supports more controllers but will require Bluez Ime it's free and will allow PS3 controller input.
Ok so the rest I talked about. I tried out the Wiimote app with my custom wiimotes and it works pretty flawless and the best part is it runs independently alongside the Ouya remote without conflct. the issue with NESoid and other is the damn thing overscans in the menus horribly and the resoloution is wrong. it's a shame since they run great. the odd thing is if you enter the menu with the ouya controller sync button the resolution scales correctly and the games look fantastic on Gameboy, nes and so on but once you exit the menu your back to crap resoloution. Why this does this Idk but since it works fine on my nexus 7 i'd guess it's Ouya's fault with overscan. Grrrrr i'll post some pics later but it's a shame. So hopefully a solution is found through CM10 or something else. The nice things about NESoid and others is their all free on slideme. That's pretty much it for testing, Ihaven't taken the PS3 remote for a spin but the Wiimotes work great.
I hope this helps, N64oid will run other games like diddykong racing great too. as for anything else you'll have to expirment. Hope this helps, Have fun. i'm going to bed !
I will bow down to Mupen, it got a few updates since I last ran it, I tested it tonight and it runs most roms smooth a little twitchy but decent. I linked up my retro builds to play. check out the custom built Bluetooth Nes and Snes controllers below I put Wii controllers in. let me know what you think.

So the N64 emu on Ouya doesn't play these games good? I played Wave Race and several racing games with no problem. I still haven't been able to get Hydro Thunder to play. It freezes like 5 seconds of starting a race.

A new version of Mupen64Plus AE (v2.3.2) was just published on Android with a new default plugin (Gles2glide64) which should improve compatibility and reduce graphical glitches in some games.
I imagine it will update on the OUYA store in the next day or 2 so should be worth trying out.
Also when using Mupen64Plus AE on OUYA, you can go in to the settings and reduce the "Video resolution" setting to something like 960x720 (or less if you choose).
Otherwise the OUYA will try to render at 1080P which affects the frame rate.
It has been reported that changing this has resulted in a good increase in frame rate.

As far as I know Mupen is poor at emulation. N64oid can run Mario64, diddy kong racing and Mariokart64 with no slow down. I tried cruis'n world, USA and they seem fine too. rush is close to perfect. I heard Mupen has serious issues just running Mario 64.

I took mupen out for a spin, updated in june it says. It runs decent, mariokart I notice some twitching but the scaling is pretty great. I tried out the Ouya GBC emulators and Nes, things run pretty darn nice. I'm gonna add a few pics of my custom controllers I liked up to play.

Mupen has been treating me nice except for conkers bad fur day...it kinda loads with audio and such but the graphics are all trippy...and poor framerate.

Cps2hd running sfa2/3 and marvel vs capcom.

I no longer have my other phone to record video, but I've run the SNES emulator, and I can say it's definitely full speed. Honestly, with the specs of the Nexus One, there's no way the emulation would skip a beat.
Unfortunately, onscreen controls have not been.. perfected yet for the N1. :/

How are the games playing out without multitouch & hardware buttons?
i picked up nesoid and snesoid, but i am at a loss for ROM installs.
1. I have no idea what the file type is that is recognized by these 2 programs
2. I made a ROMs folder on my card, but whenever i try to switch to that folder using the 'load ROM' option, it says the folder i created doesn't exist. does this mean i have to dump everything to the cards root folder? why won't it switch to the right folder?
3. I can find ROM sites through google, but again, referring to my first point, I don't know what file type I should be putting on the phone, or where.
I have all of yongzh's emulators, and all of them run excellent. The SNES and GBA ones are the toughest of the consoles, and have a bit of audio slowdown. But otherwise, they are all perfect.
As for the key controls, depends on the console. There are a few keys that are usable, even if they are software keys. You can map console keys to the Search, Back, Volume Up, Volume Down, and Trackball Press buttons. Consoles with few buttons, like the SMS, NES, and GBC, run without problems. Consoles with more buttons have more trouble, culminating with the SNES, which has to leave some buttons unmapped. Still, they are all very playable, and I play FFVI on the SNES emulator with no problems and a grin on my face. ^_^
Hopefully multitouch development will render this problem moot.
They are a lot easier to play control wise on my G1 but they play beautifully graphics wise on the Nexus, like Ashtear said it's just a matter of the developers implementing multitouch now.
still doesn't tell me how to address my issues.
file type?
where put it?
never mind. got it.
nesoid reads .nes files.
snesoid reads .smc files
so...i got it going. however, seems like, at least on the nesoid, i can't simultaneously use the direction pad and a button makes for difficult gameplay, since so many things require being able to move/shoot or move/jump :/

yeah, in answer to this question, it blows. mario kart you can pick whether to go, or to steer, not both.
ok someone try cps2hd please with street fighter alpha 2
unfortunately, as the soft buttons are on the same capacitive screen, they can't be touched as the screen is being touched. The most fun I've been able to have is playing gradius on snesoid using flip screen mode, the trackball fo d-pad and vol up and down for a and b. it's not great.
The Developer of GameBoid should have his Nexus One by now, he said when he got he would work on multi-touch.
anyone tried the cps2 emu now?
can't you use the trackball as the d-pad?
WiiController
If you have a Wii controller laying around you can use a free app called "WiiController" instead of the on screen controls.
Makes gaming on my N1 a dream...
does cps2hd support the wiimote?
The only real way to play emulators on the Nexus one you have to:
1) play in landscape
2) put the virtual d-pad and buttons at diagonally opposite corners
This gets around the 15mm axis fusing problem the Nexus One has, but it's still not perfect. You can do running jumps in Super Mario World, for instance, but you're moreso fat fingering one response to hit two buttons rather than having 3 separate inputs so it's very unreliable.
I have SuperGNES and Snesoid, and I'd recommend the former because if you try a running jump in Snesoid it releases the y button when you release b. To have this make sense, if you're on Yoshi and you do a running jump, he sticks his tongue out when you let go of the jump because the Y button gets 'pressed' again. Far as I can tell, this doesn't happen on SuperGNES.
Just my experience. I wouldn't count on Froyo fixing it.
anyone try cps2hd yet?
Hello could someone please tell me the best PSX emulator for the Xperia Play and give detailed instructions on setting it up so that it runs smoothly? I have tried one, FPse, but the sound does not work properly. psx4droid doesn't work at all [the latest version 3.0.6,] it just keeps asking me to force close when I try to load a rom. Please give the name of the emulator and the version and how to set it up for the Xperia Play.
the best emulator so far is FPSe, check on the Apps & Themes section, there is a sticky with all playable roms.
FPse.
Mine works perfect. No sound or framerate choppiness at all.
How did you set up FPse ? Mine has poor sound, it doesn't seem to be playing all the sound only some parts.
Solved the sound issues. So in FPse i went into "system" and unchecked Mdec Acceleration, Gte Acceleration and HLE mode. Now I hear all the audio though at some points the audio slows down a bit.

I have -
Country - USA (i live in the UK though but i d/l USA games. This might make a difference to smoothness as the timing of the games is 50 mhz or 60 mhz and could account for some choppy sound)
Mdec - On
Gte - On
Fast Booting - On
HLE - Off
Boost Mode - Off
No Sound - Off
Spu Sync - Off
Framelimiter - On
Frameskip - None
Screen Filtering - Off
Screensize - Full Screen
Fast Overlay - Off
Screen Orientation - Landscape (turning off auto in theory could speed emulation up)
Print fps - Off
Invert colors - Off
Some games didnt work very well. Tony Hawks 2 had very glitchy graphical errors (or might of been THPS 1, cant remember), and Colin Mcrae 2 grinded to a halt.
Here is what i have tried though -
Time Crisis (touch screen as light gun, dam awesome)
Demolition Derby
Rampage Universal Tour
Point Blank (touch screen as light gun, dam awesome)
Strider 2
Die Hard Trilogy
All of them run flawlessly. No graphical glitched. Now sound stuttering. (and i mean none at all, not even a tiny hiccup).
I have rooted my phone, taken away lots of bloatware. Maybe this helps, maybe not.
N64 emulator sound skips for me alot. fpse none though.
Hey man mine is rooted also, you said you took off bloatware, could you go into detail? I want to take off stuff but I do not want to "brick" the phone because I don't know how I would get it back working.
Check out this thread for removing bloatware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699
Man I don't think it's actually possible to get this damn emulator playing the sound properly, it keeps slowing down messing up the sounds. sucks man.
Sorry to bump an old thread..
But does the phone need to be rooted to work with emulators - to eventually play psx games ?
and what is the actualy process on loading these old school games to the xperia play?
Especially looking forward to colin mcrae..

No.
No root is needed for emu. In phone .it is just a normal app..

No you don't need to be rooted.
If you're looking to use FPSe, here's how to get playing your games:
1.) Buy and install FPSe.
2.) Open up the app and it will ask you to load a BIOS. Google is your one and only friend when searching for the PSX BIOS.
3.) After that, you can load your game. So rip your own .iso from games you own. Or again, Google is your friend for this.
4.) Then you can load the game and stay playing.
You might have to change a few settings to get the game and emulator performing better, that's basically trial and error.
Just a question, anyone tried PPSSPP on our note 3? how was it? Share your experience and setting.

It's been working pretty good for me so far. You may have to fiddle with your settings for every game. Once you get it, the games run pretty great. Surprisingly so. Make sure you check out the compatibility list before you spend time trying to get a game to work. Some games are just broken. Mostly it depends what kind of games you're into. Rpg's or turn based games seem the way to go. Most action oriented games are nearly impossible unless you have a secondary controller. With that being said, PPSSPP gives you a great deal of control in customizing your controller layout... Now if I could only adjust the analog sensitivity.....

What's your general settings?
Also go to the ppsspp website and install the latest build and see if that helps. They seem to add new versions daily.

Try disabling hardware transform and mips. Then try the different buffer modes. Just create a save state right where your having trouble. Try a different setting, and load that save state. Rinse and repeat until it works, or until you run out of options. I've also had trouble running a handful of games. My advice is to put the buggy games on the back burner for awhile. Eventually they'll get fixed. In the meantime play something else. Also tenchu seems a little tough for touch screen controls. Without a dedicated l and r button you'd have trouble playing it. You could always map the volume rocker to l and r, but it's a little annoying...
I switched off buffering. Improved graphics display by alot.

There's a couple of threads around that are a bit dated now. I'm looking for people to hopefully post up the games that are working good on the MOJO.
I'm hoping also that you could please post up your favourite games, but also which ROM you are running. One or two don't seem to cross the divide so well, and games that work OK on one ROM won't necessarily work on another.
Working on CM 12.1 [PLEASE NOTE: All my apps are tested fullscreen where appropriate- Settings/Display/Expanded Desktop - select Hide Both] -
Top TV Launcher - so much better than the default CM/Android interface once you figure it out - perfect for the MOJO imho
Emulators all working perfectly (Retroarch, Mupen64+ AE/FZ, .EMU apps, MAME etc)
Bloo Kid 2 - works pretty much perfectly, but you have to switch to mouse mode to exit the options screen.
Sword of Xolan - perfect really
Riptide 2 - the same
Sonic 4 Episode 2: THD version - perfect
Sonic the Hedgehog - brilliant, no problems
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - the same
Sonic CD - hmm, OK but can't seem to remove the touchscreen overlay - works though
Sine Mora - perfect
Zen Pinball - perfect
R-Type - the same
Super Soccer Champs - Very good again but a bit tricky to navigate the menus. Great game though
GTA: Vice City - just brilliant
Splash: Underwater Sanctuary - works fine on CM 12.1
Cordy - Works OK, you can only use analogue stick for movement and menu is a bit clunky, but can be played
Cordy 2 - Again works well, D-pad works and in game navigation OK, but sometimes doesn't respond to buttons on level select
Gunslugs 2 - Perfect
Red Ball - reported as working fine on CM 12.1
Rayman Fiesta Run - for lord only knows what reason, this is working now on CM 12.1. :/
Rayman Adventures - PROMOTED - working again after recent update. Good, it's a great game on the MOJO.
Cyclone 2000 - working perfectly.
Badland - Fully supported and perfect.
Reaper - Working perfectly.
Fast Like a Fox - works very well indeed
The Deer God - works great with the CTRLR!
Limbo - works perfectly apart from some menu items need the pointer on - but in game it's brilliant
Oceanhorn - Implemented perfectly and a great game. I bought the full version fyi.
Oddworld: Strangers' Wrath - yep, perfect.
Half Life 2 - working perfectly as per 1Besik
Portal - working perfectly as per 1Besik
Rochard - working perfectly as per 1Besik
Lost Echo - working perfectly as per 1Besik
Unkilled - working perfectly as per 1Besik
Sideloaded:
Maldita Castilla - no problems
L'Abbaye Des Morts - the one on the Play store doesn't respond. The Ouya one from Locomalito works but has to be exited via Home button
Gaurodan - Locomalito - works perfectly
A Game A Week.com - JNK's games seem to be working fine from (here).
Alien Bastards - sideloaded with OUYA .apk - working great
Echoes+ - Sideoloaded with OUYA .apk - same - excellent game!
Donkey-Me - Sideloaded with OUYA .apk - works but doesn't create the proper game icon.
Super Crate Box - Sideloaded with OUYA .apk - working great!
Lao's Quest - download from here. Top homage to Rick Dangerous and bastard hard (but fun)! Grab the Android .apk there.
Not working:
Castle of Illusion - sadly no response to CTRLR despite reviews stating controller compatible
Giana Sisters - Nope, again seemingly not responsive to CTRLR but also cannot be navigated via mouse option - works on Remix though
Shadow Blade - Sadly nope. Touch only
Sonic 4 Episode 1 - Not really doable. Jump with R3??? Mouse only navigation
Gulag - Sideloaded with OUYA .apk - no response to controller at all
Twin Tiger Shark - Sideloaded with OUYA .apk - not working. One from Play Store works but only with mouse mode - not ideal.
Hungry Shark Evolution - Not working at all. Doesn't recognise the controller.
A lot of these are indie type games which I do love, and I'm always on the lookout for more. But I'd also like to know of larger scale games too that work on CM 12.1. I'd really appreciate if you could post up and let us know your working favourites and the ones to avoid. Thanks, and sorry for the long post.
EDIT: Trying to keep this up to date as I discover games. Noticing that just because it's in Tegrazone that does NOT mean it will work here. There are loads of examples of games that just won't work, and one or two that do but are a poor or scruffy experience.
My better half enjoys Splash: Underwater Sanctuary, it runs fine on the MOJO.

Not seen that one! Thanks Kev, I'll update my post with it, and another I played recently - Cordy.
http://mojo.madcatz.com/ftgames.php
MD's page has a list of games that are compatible with the MOJO (CTRLR to be precise). You've already mentioned some of them. I think this list is the only thing for the MOJO that Mad Catz seems to update once every while.
I also use the TegraZone app to see new games that have controller ability. The icon appears right next to the titles. Haven't tried games that are specifically mapped for the Shield controller though.

Well, I've seen that list before, and to be honest it was part of the reason I wanted to create a new post here. A lot of those don't work on CM 12.1, or seem to have been affected adversely by running CM 12.1. Rayman Fiesta Run doesn't work for example, where it did on stock and Remix. Cordy is another that seems to work, but isn't a great experience on CM 12.1.
People using the MOJO are using different OS's, and I thought it could be a good idea to get people's experiences across them in one place if and where possible. Thanks for the heads up on the TegraZone app.
Red Ball works fine. Most of the games that are also on the Shield seem to work.
Could somebody, anybody really, please try Rayman Adventures and report their experience here for me? I don't get how one day it works and then the next *poof*.
It works on initial run, you can play a level or two. But when you exit and return to the game later, the main screen hangs and then crashes back to the desktop for me. I just can't fathom it and it's driving me crackers! I've tried reinstalling, deleting the cache etc, wiping my SD card in case there's a config file somewhere, enabling/disabling fullscreen. I don't get it.
It was fine the other day!

Right after it crashes, see if you can locate a file called last.kmsg on the MOJO. IIRC it should be in /var/log but I've never checked on the MOJO, and I can't right this moment. Anyway if you can post it up here, either as attachment or open as text and copy/paste. No guarantees of course but maybe it'll tell us what's going on. My first guess is insufficient RAM.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a go later and post back.
Hungry Shark Evolution will not recognize the controller. The game installs and boots up fine but I can't get it to recognize the controller. Im on CM12 anyone had any luck?
I know it works on my Shield just fine

Not that I think it'll do much good, but you might try e-mailing the developers. Most of these games are either going to work or no, there isn't much we mortals can do about it.

Can confirm here it doesn't work on CM 12.1. I struggled to boot the game at first. My MOJO didn't seem to appreciate it pooling ads in from an external link. Once it settled though after a few re-launches, it would not recognise the controller, much like Giana Sisters.
I'm assuming I got the right game? There's also a Ubisoft version, but I downloaded the Evo version.
In other news I couldn't get an error log for Rayman Adventures. It's not anywhere I can find it. Anyone else tried this game?
Minor bumpage just to say I am keeping the list as up to date as I can. Am noticing after some updates that games that didn't work before are working now.

Rayman Adventures is the first one that springs to mind. Worked well on Remix but on CM 12.1 no dice. Just would hang and then crash back to the desktop. It seemed that UbiSoft had added and extra download on top of the initial install, and I suspected this was the cause.
However since the update on the 9th June, it's working again. I'm very pleased as I love Rayman.
I use the stock firmware.
Half Life 2
Portal
Oddworld Stranger's Wrath
Rochard
Lost Echo
Unkilled
All of this games work perfect.
Major long time no see bump. Mad Catz be gone but the games live on! Still very much enjoying the MOJO.
Thanks 1Besik (if you're still around). Added these to the list, and to my own must-buy list.
From my own install I'm playing Oceanhorn, which is brilliant and also Lao's Quest. Added to the list, for anyone who cares to care!
Tried to get Shadowgun Legends working on the MOJO. I updated the ROM to LineageOS, and I was able to install the game, but it looks like OpenGL needs some updating in order for this game to work. Pink screen after initial intro video that played... I'd like to know if there's any possibility...
Hi all,
Have been tinkering with this emu for a few years now, mostly on PC (which works amazingly well) zelda the windwaker, Mario kart double dash, smash brothers melee, to name but a few great titles all work perfectly on modest hardware
Anyway over the last year or so it's made its way to android, and although it's nowhere near perfect it's definitely coming along, I just wanted to start a thread in regards to it and what peoples experience with it has been..
The emulator runs ISO's from original games, for copyright reasons you should own the original so don't ask for or post places to get rom images here or the thread will be closed and that will be the end of that.
The aim of this thread is to get the most out of the emulator and to see what configurations work best with what games and if we can get anything close to 30fps, which in pc terms sounds horrible but on the gamecube it was definitely playable.. Also just bare in mind that this emulation is very demanding on any system so your battery is going to take a massive hit, also if throttling does kick in, you'll see a drop in performance.. With the right balance of settings and choice of game I believe we can get close to playable.
Has anyone tried the emu? Or have they had any experience with it on android? I know that with the shield it runs near perfect but that is simply due to the cpu /GPU being extremely powerful.
Heres a link to the emulator which is completely free as it's open source.
https://dolphin-emu.org/download
Again please don't link any rom files, any copyright violations will be frowned upon and the thread will be closed.
The emulator supports touch and controllers, multi player is possible and other than the frame rate not being so great with the game I've tried, the games themselves look great.
UPDATE! 04/01/17
Pre-requisites
Root Access
Phone running Android N (have tried this game on Marshmallow and it crashes on the first 3D scene)
A custom recovery capable of flashing files
A legitimate rom file of the game you want to play, for the purpose of this tutorial it's Zelda the windwaker for the gamecube
The ini files (available at the foot of this OP)
*Optional* A notepad editor for android should you want to edit the ini file yourselves.
Installation
To get the emulator to run Windwaker (only game i've fully been testing) at full speed, or extremely close to
Install the emulator from this link https://dolphin-emu.org/download open the emulator once to create the folders and files needed, then close it and clear recents.
So long as you own the original game and you have a copy of the it in a ROM / ISO format, have the ROM on your SD card or internal memory.
Attached is my ini config file for dolphin, download this and unzip it, then place this within: /storage/emulated/0/dolphin-emu/Config
Note* You will have to change your rom paths thereafter and once the change has been saved to the ini you will then see your games from then onwards, the ini contains my path and won't work with yours*
Clear recents and open up dolphin.
Once dolphin is open, check that your settings match what I have put on here, then once verified, click the folder icon on the right and then the plus button.
Find your ROM and open it, the initial boot should go to 50 - fps, Windwaker is a 30 fps game, the game once loaded and you're on onset island should be running at 25 - 30 frames per second.
Controls
From installing the emulator, the controls aren't set up, open any game and then pull down on the notification bar and a blue bar will appear with a menu (3 dots) click this then configure controls, move the buttons to represent the gamecube pad, if you have a BT pad then configure this prior to launching the game
Final notes
Bare in mind that this emulator is still in alpha stage and as such, certain things simply won't work, emulation takes a lot more grunt to get this to run anywhere near normal speed so i'm afraid you do have to take the rough with the smooth, new nightlies are released all the time with updated notes attached from the above download link, I'd advise uninstalling and then cleaning up folders from the phone and then importing the ini file over again for a clean install
If anyone finds any fixes, or compatible games they've tried or any tweaks they'd like to share, please do so, i'm bewildered that the gamecube has actually been emulated and to have it on your phone running close to perfect is nothing short of astounding.
Enjoy

Settings from options within the emulator which I've found to be the best for me.
Zelda gets around 20-25 (dips at times to around 15 but no lower)
MarioKart Double Dash
This game was a 60fps game, on a normal race it's too slow, on time trials however it's not too bad, average frames are around 30-40 fps.
Turn these on, just got a 10fps boost on double dash, very close to perfect.
Zelda does not have the same boost, in fact it dropped to 15fps..
Very nice to see this I'm gonna give it a go.
Could we set our phones to switch force gpu rendering or something along those lines to get better fps.

Sort of, open settings from your actual phone and turn on high performance, search within settings if you can't find it. Proper path is in settings, development, high performance...
I'm on the stock kernel but I'll be getting others today to see how they go. By all accounts android N works a lot better in terms of speed than MM.
Another thing which I've noticed is that if you're phone supports open gl es 3.0 then that makes a massive boost to cpu speed, seen a couple of videos showing zelda running at a near solid 30 fps, Afaik the lost of gl es 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2 are announced yet our set of hardware doesn't support 3.0 unless it's backward compatible, it supports 3.2 or higher. I need to read more about it.. Not sure if it can be added etc, seems like driver support rather than a limitation of hardware.
Will keep looking.
Ok so cm 14 is not a good idea. Horrific frame rate, not even worth tweaking. Going back to venom
Just an FYI, not related to topic.
DO NOT FLASH A CM ROM IF YOU WANT TO REMAIN UN-ENCRYPTED, IT ENCRYPTS ON BOOT. Forcing you to then back up, format and then restore and then install your rom again.
If you're encrypted already then fair enough.
Nothing in the cm thread to tell you this it's just "Known"
Anyway, once I've got this up and running again I'll be going through several versions of dolphin and trying to see what yields the best results for Zelda and MarioKart.
Long day ahead of me
Also clean slate if you're on firmware but on N, flashing the same version as your firmware will not boot..awesome.
Guess I need to full update everything.
Reverted back to MM, none of the games run.
N is definitely majorly more optimizer than MM for this emulator.. Getting playable framerates now on zelda and MKDD.. Happy days.. A few iterations of this emu and it'll be running very well hopefully.
Version I'm getting the best frames with above settings is 5.0-1480
Been really tinkering with this emu.
Have tried every single combination of settings and in its current state with the newest version (v5.16XX)
Max I can get from onset Island (windwaker) is 15fps which will then fluctuate to 25 and will peak at the max of 30 fps but this is when it's not drawing the whole island, within buildings the fps maxes out immediately but having played this game all the way through I'm aware that more than half of the game is outdoors so 15-25 fps would not be acceptable.
Running MK double dash again, maxes out in certain areas, certainly not in grand prix races, just too much going on..
Need to find the cfg file and lower the resolution, perhaps disable sound, this will massively increase speed, it'll mean sub par resolution and no audio but it'll help with speed.
Cfg is here /sdcard/dolphin-emu/Config/Dolphin.ini
Can be edited with a note pad. If I manage to squeeze anything more out of it I'll upload it here.
After lowering the resolution all the way down to 160x200 I've managed to get a stable 20fps in most places on onset Island, occasionally dropping down to 17fps but quickly going back up.
Going to get another kernel to see if overclocking will give me a little more grunt. Can't find the audio so can't disable it and may not even stop it from emulating anyway, so would be pointless.
Grabbed elemental with an OS lets see what this bad boy can do. Not expecting any improvement on battery life but I'd love a flat 30 fps on the windwaker. Here goes.
Ok so Elemental X has been extremely helpful, I've managed to get a solid 25fps from the start of onset island, it's running near perfect.
Grabbed ElementalX and installed their CPU/GPU manager from the playstore.
On installation of the kernel I went with the overclocked settings on both little and big cores and the GPU, hasn't really hurt the battery in any way so i'm happy with that for daily use.
On the time I want to run windwaker do the following:
Open settings in elementalX
Change governor to elementalx and cycle to update open governor settings and turn them to activate on boot
Go to CPU options and make sure 1728 on little is set for max, 2265 is set for big, all cores on.
Do the same with GPU options and turn GPU boost to high.
Once done, click on the powerbar up the top of elemental and turn on performance mode
Kill all open apps then in the phones menu, open: settings / development options / High Performance Mode and turn it on.
Also make sure dolphin is not being optimised by checking the option within Apps / dolphin / Battery / Battery optimization / Off
Open the emulator (make sure nothing else is open) and run the game, if it fails, press back and re-run, frame rates should be massively improved.
Bare in mind that this will decimate your battery, and i'm not sure when but throttling will more than likely kick in at some point too.
I'll keep tweaking but this is the best i've seen so far by miles.
Throttled after about 25 minutes then rolled back down to 15-20 fps. Need to lower the oc so it lasts longer. If I can get an hour then that'd be perfect.
Ok so the GPU, high performance modes, not needed, simply install elemental (i've gone with the OC'd version, 1.7Ghz) and turn on high performance mode, this allows perfect gameplay in the vast majority of places on the windwaker.
Only problem is the throttling, so i'll try the lower clock speeds of 1.5Ghz and see how that pans out.
OK so played through for around 45 mins with GPU boost on high and high performance on ex kernel manager.. When I got to a large outdoor area the game slowed to about 17 fps. Christ, it's never going to be perfect on this device.
Do you have tried emulating Smash Bros. Melee? If it does I'm with you on the testing train :highfive:
