[Q] nexus 7 unbricking - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had flashed cm 10 to my nexus 7 . had some issues so i flashed the stock rom via nexus 7 tool kit. Now it'd not booting
It's stuck on the nexus logo. Guess this is what you call a boot loop. I tried to get into recovery from fast boot.. When i select recovery
Its crashing. I tried to flash a new recovery. But it seems that my usb USB debugging has gone off.
Can anybody please help me. I've searched aloot. It would be reallyappreciated.

Have you tried using fastboot flash recovery <downloaded recovery>? If not, full stop, go search for a downloadable recovery for your version of the Nexus 7, and try that.
You're also a long, long way from being bricked, so don't use "brick" as a search term.

Hi, rolehommie...
If can you still access the bootloader, you're just softbricked (not hardbricked). You're just bootlooping.
Download a recovery (CWM/TWRP) to your computer, hook it up to your N7 via USB... boot the tablet into the bootloader (from power off, VolDown+PowerOn), then flash the recovery.img as per @Rirere's instructions.
Fastboot doesn't need USB debugging enabled.
(USB debugging is only needed for ADB commands when Android is fully booted.)
All you need is fastboot flash recovery <name-of-recovery.img>
Good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.

I know you got some blood answers above but you could try using wugfresh toolkit....very easy

Download the Nexus 7 4.2.2 factory package and unzip the contents to your ADB/Fastboot directory. Start > Run > CMD > cd (your directory) e.g. "cd c:/platform-tools" > "flash-all.bat" will flash all factory images including the recovery, system and data.

Thank you very very much for all your advice . but i tried flashing a new recovery. The problem is my computer is not getting connected to the device. I tried flashing a new recovery using nexus 7 tool kit . but the kit itself is not connecting to my device.
This is the issue . i appreciate everybody's reply .

Seems you don't have the proper driver installed on your computer.
http://d-h.st/kDu
Download File > Unzip > Control Panel > Device Manager > Nexus 7 Update Driver > Browser Computer > Select Folder > Install.

I would start by dropping the toolkit, installing the drivers and learning a little bit.

Make sure to use the USB ports that go directly to motherboard, if you choose to do manually(no toolkit) just keep asking questions if run into problems there's all the help you need here! Good luck!!

N7 stuck at loading screen, fastboot doesn't work, recovery mode doesn't boot.

I was running ParanoidAndroid perfectly until it crashed and not it gets stuck at the loading screen of the ROM (not the Google logo). I'm able to turn it off and get into Bootloader. From there if I choose Recovery mode, it gets stuck at Google logo.
If I plug it into the PC while in booatloader, it gets detected as "Android" but no driver (I'm sure I installed it before with the Toolkit). Toolkit just won't detect the device anymore, keeps getting stuck at the <waiting for device> command.
If I plug it into the PC while stuck at the ParanoidAndroid loading screen, I see MTP and Nexus in Device Manager but w/o drivers.
What can I do now? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks.
Bump.

Have you tried fastboot from the bootloader? Try this(assuming Windows):
-copy your recovery image of choice to your fastboot folder on your PC.
-boot to the bootloader with usb connected.
-open cmd window and navigate to fastboot folder
-type: fastboot boot insertrecoverynamehere.img
It should boot into the recovery from there. Make sure it's the same recovery you used for your latest backup.
Edit: I just read the subject line saying fastboot didn't work. Odd that it would just stop working from the bootloader like that. Have you tried manually updating the driver? Or maybe adb when it recognizes the device as MTP?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I figured out the problem. I'm such a dumbass. I forgot that last time I did this on a friend's computer. Apparently, the toolkit doesn't work properly on Windows 8 64-bit... (at least not on mine). I plugged it into a friend's laptop running W7 and was able to flash recovery again. Smooth sailing from there. Wonder what corrupted recovery.

I've never been able to cold boot my recovery - only through the goomanager app(for TWRP). I believe it's a known bug. I can only boot recovery from the bootloader when my N7 is plugged into my laptop via usb. Power or another laptop don't count. Oddly enough, It also works if I plug it into my Galaxy Nexus via USB+OTG.

Hm, perhaps that was the problem? But I was able to cold boot into recovery after reflashing TWRP... Anyhow, I'm glad I didn't have to restore a recovery image as I haven't made a backup since the last PA update

It worked for me only once after reflashing the recovery. Never again after that. Hopefully it gets fixed soon, but until then, I carry my USB cables with me if I'm flashing new roms

[Q] Unable to Boot, Unable to mount sd, brick?

Hi,
i unrooted, unlocked and installes cwn via nexus 7 utility tool 4.0 and flashed the stock 4.2.1 rom. after reboot the nexus 7 get stuck in the bootloader. if i try to boot via"start" button it says "unable to boot" in the upper left corner. booting into bootloader mode works. booting into recovery mode works too, but the nexus 7 is unable to mount the sd card, the cache and so on. i tryed to reflash the stockrom with the nexus tool but when it says"all done, the nexus will now reboot" nothing happen. i tryed to reflash stock rom with the instruction in this section with adb and fastboot. it get stuck after giving the first command to reboot into fastboot. what can i do to get the nexus to work?
Have you tried the sideload command? Select 'install zip from sideload' when connected to your computer, and from cmd on your computer type adb sideload rom-name.zip

[Q] Nexus 4 factory rom deleted

Good day guys,
I need a help with my nexus 4, I had a rooted rom in my nexus 4 with clockwork mode recovery, I tried to wipe my data through clockwork mode but by mistake I did system wipe. Now there is no rom in the device, I can only access to fastboot mode and clockwork recovery mode, also I tried to install rom through toolkit but my PC & Mac doesn't read any device connected and no device shown in device manger in my windows 7 with using different usb cables and ports. I installed samsung drivers and adb drivers but still I cannot see the device in device manager.
Please if any body can help me to install rom back to my device.:crying:

In cwm there should be an option to mount the device as usb storage. Try that. It should let you plug the phone into the pc and simply copy the zip onto the phones internal sd.
If thats not working try this to set up the drivers. Then plug the phone in and boot into the bootloader/fastboot mode. The open command prompt and cd to the android-sdk/platform-tools directory. Then run the following command:
Code:
adb push /path/to/rom/on/pc/ /mnt/sdcard/
still not working
Still not connected to windows, I cannot do any thing with my device
Download any ROM and do the following:
1. Connect phone to PC when in fastboot
2. Install drivers (if required)
3. Flash latest version of CWM using fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.img
4. Reboot phone into fastboot using fastboot reboot-bootloader
5. Boot into CWM
6. Install drivers (if required)
7. Select 'Install via sideload'
8. Flash ROM using adb sideload name_of_rom.zip
9. Follow instructions in CWM
If that still doesn't work, go back to stock using this guide (and read ALL of it):

My problem now that I cannot connect my device to PC, I installed drivers every thing and when I open fast boot or recovery mode and plug the cable, nothing indicates on my PC that there is a device connected even device manager not showing any device connected... I am stuck now, I cannot install any rom to get phone life back.
don't worry! the biggest problem would be that you had no drivers installed!
nexus are super easy to recover and you can play with them safely (except if you flash wrongs kernels from other devices haha)
do what my mate gets up in the post! and it will fixed it.

It's not that it's not showing, it might already be installed correctly. When you have the Nexus 4 connect in fastboot it will show in Device Manager as 'Android Bootloader Interface' under the heading of 'Android Phone (see attached)

i've the same problem in my nexus 4.. Could u recover from that?

my friend (soft?)bricked his nexus 4...help?

So he was following some random youtube video that was years old so it probably was outdated...
the phone state is currently unlocked, not unrooted yet..but with clockwork mod .
it responds to fastboot commands using the nexus toolkit by wugfresh but i can't get adb to work? all the guides i see say you have to have the phone booted normally before installing it and we can't do that
any help is appreciated
Your situation is a bit unclear, Is the phone boot looping? What you can do is flash a factory image while the phone is on the bootloader mode using Ncry toolkit or something similar. This way doesn't require the phone to be on or have any flash files already on the phone.
hey thanks for relying so fast, yes it is boot looping, ill try what you said now and update status, thanks again
edit: where would i get the factory image? does that toolkit download it for you?

you didn't go into the stock recovery after unlocking bootloader
here is the factory images page - https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
you could probably just flash the recovery.img in the image-*.zip file to recovery, then go into recovery, wait for it to do it's thing then flash clockworkmod, philz or TWRP with the toolkit and do root etc.
you can also just flash the factory image, then do the stuff with the toolkit (easier)
sorry if I've confused you o.o
Easiest way to do this is to use Ncry (http://goo.gl/l0iuEn):
1. Put phone in bootloader an connect phone to pc with Ncry ON.
2. Click on the one click menu.
3. click SR mode.
The programme will automatically download the files and do the flashing, when finished the phone will auto boot.

Nexus 7 2012 Hard brick after downgrade?

Hello guys! I come now to the point ..
I bought the Nexus 7 WiFi only for in-car use .. When I received it, had the CyanogenMod 12.1! so I decided to install the rom AUTODROID 1.2! I downloaded the ROM, install the .zip TWRP (latest version) and so I had a bootloop .. Restore backup done previously with TWRP! I am looking online and I see that making the dowgrade from lollipop kitkat, first I had to flash the rom original KitKat!
ADB and fastboot drain, drain the "ROM" (the right one for the Nexus 7 2012 wifi), reboot into fastboot mode and do the command .bat adb .. but something went wrong
"Fastboot.exe stopped working"
From here you have begun problems: recovery is no longer accessible, and restart I always brought to the fastboot mode! I had the bright idea to turn off the tablet ...
From here .. Black screen, fastboot mode is not available, recovery is not available, so I can not even give commands ADB .. When the connection to the tablet pc, windows gives me input connection, but during the driver installation I give me the error "Unknown Device" ..
I do not know what to do .. Can you help?
You could try using the nexus root toolkit ( wugfresh NRT ) to fix your nexus
