[Q] Focus Flash with signal outside US - Focus General

Hi I have a Samsung Focus Flash that I have brought to Peru, primarily because it is also my mp3 player. I've had it on airplane mode since I got off the plane, but a minute ago I took off airplane mode, waited for a change in the signal icon and lo and behold...I got a signal. A minute later a late text from my girlfriend.
Here are the facts.
I don't have an international plan.
I don't know if it is unlocked because I bought from a third party vendor ( I didn't want to buy another plan)
I would like to be given some ideas as to what is going on? Why is there a signal? Full bars too.
Thanks in advance.

Sending mms from 3g connection to gprs connection?

So yesterday I was at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in DC. First time I've ever had a 3G connection, so I went nuts sending my wife a bunch of pictures. She's back at home in Kansas with a GPRS connection. She received the first picture just fine, but the next four arrived 4 hours later. Did this happen because I was on 3g and she had the slower GPRS? Basically, I'm just wondering what caused the 4 hour delay? Her phone is a blackberry curve 8320 if it matters.
By the way....Now that I know what 3G is like...I'm sooo spoiled. Edge sucks.
I believe it's the T-Mobile conversion process that is slowing everything down. The network could also get backlogged like Boost mobile was having a problem with but I think it's the system they have setup for downsizing the image. I had pictures being sent to me take forever especially at night. I had 1 image take 3 days to receive on my end once. It's I believe on 3g and 2g but I could be wrong. Try sending 2g to 2g when your back on edge. I think because you might never of sent pictures before your not accustomed to this stuff.
Ummm... I send pictures a lot. This was the first time it's ever taken 4 hours, thus my question. And because this was also the first time I've ever been on 3g, I made the connection. Never been an issue like this sending pics while on edge.
Maybe since your in a new area right now that site might have bottlenecks. I live in Chicago and I get pictures hours after they have been sent. Since your in DC their are a lot more people using the network so that node might be corked.
Not in DC anymore. Was just there for an appointment at the hospital. I'm in Aberdeen, MD now. Back on edge.
It's not really important, just a curiosity. If the same happens to you, then I'm not worried.
hey at least they got there my friend from att trys to send me pics all the time and i never get them yet i send to her and she gets em within mins...kinda unfair if u ask me...she has a blackberry of some sort idk but its a unlocked tmo phone ... but yea be glad she got em
it happens to me from time to time, sending and receiving. Its also happened when I was on Verizon, not sure what causes it.

Can not call in during surfing online?

Hi all,
I just got a wired situation that if I use any application that consistently consumes the network (Such as market download, web browser loading page), the phone call could not reach me. I am using GSM mode of N1. Is this firmware issue or operator issue? Any of you has faced same thing? thanks for feedback~
Currently using unlocked bootloader/RA1.5.3/Enomther 1.4
If you're using GSM mode, it's using either EDGE or GPRS which doesn't support simultaneous voice/data like UMTS
no, my question is whether I can set voice has the high priority than data? so that it can disconnect the data if a call goes in...
crap... i noticed this too today! I use Pandora a lot and people keep getting sent to a lady who says I can't be reached. It doesn't even just go to voice mail (at&t, google viocemail edge only.) I figured the phone would just stop the data transfer and pick up my call :-\
Anyone else know more about this? It would seem that's true in my experiance today and yesterday.
This has been happening, at least on EDGE on T-Mobile USA, for a long time. I got my new phone and moved into a new apartment on the same day in 2006. I had nothing in my apartment, not even a bed or a mattress, or a radio, so I had my T-Mobile MDA playing internet radio all day while I waited for my mattress to be delivered. Meanwhile, the delivery guys were standing outside trying to call me. The call never came through - though it did go to voicemail - and I was stuck sleeping on the floor that night. So I'll never forget that EDGE blocks voice calls

[Q] Orange UK - 3G does not work..

Hi all,
Wonder if you can help me as I'm beginning to lose it with this phone..
I've not had a decent connection since I bought the phone back in september. Basically a 3G signal means no connection. Nothing happens, no data. When its on the 'H' sign it works really well but it stays on H for like 10 seconds before switching back to 3G.
I've googled this problem and it seems I'm not the only one with this issue. I've changed the network settings, and even tried various radios to no avail. I have good 3G coverage in my area so there shouldn't be a problem at all. Even in central london it doesn't work. It's too unstable and virtually unusable..
Can anyone suggest any other possible solutions to this please?
Thanks
Talk to lennyuk about this
He got on well against orange and can tell you the story of what's wrong
I had this problem before! Orange just sent me a new SIM and it was all sorted !
Thanks chaps,
I've just PM'd Lenny!
alex: I'll ring them up and ask them to send me a new one if it still doesn't work. I'm sooo not looking forward to explaining to them what the issue is...haha
Ah, I had this problem, and it left me 4 months without data thanks to oranges stupidity.
Anyway a short term fix will be to dial *#*#4636#*#* and go phone options, then change your network in the drop down box to 2g only (or similar can't remember the phrase it uses)
2g still works all the time.
As for the long fix, you will need to speak to orange and demand to speak to "high tech" support they can fix it (well they did for me eventually). The problem they said was that my phone was connecting to both an old tower and a new "super tower" they orange UK are installing across the country, this confused the phone and messed up its data connection when on 3g, as it was trying to pull data from 2 towers at one time.
Orange eventually forced me onto one tower (or so they told me) and for a large part the problem was solved from there on in.
You do have to remember as well though the Hero has some 3g compatibility issues with Orange's existing network (again stupid orange), this is something that can never really be fixed.
Orange support can be very helpful if you speak to the right people, don't be afraid to tell them to put you through higher up straight away.
Hope this helps.
Thank you very much for the informative reply Lenny
I'll keep you all updated.
Just a quick update..
I had 2 weeks of stable connection up until a few days back! It had been fine ever since Orange fixed the 3g/gprs problem after it went down for everyone. Probably due to the low traffic? (see below)
So I phoned Orange yesterday and explained my problem and asked to be put through to the 'high tech' department. However, after a while being on hold, the 1st line support advisor said she'll call me back asap as the techies were busy. She called back about 20min later, just as I popped downstairs for 30 seconds! Anyway, she left a message explaining the problem. Turns out that my area has 2 masts both of which are running at full capacity, and there's not enough bandwidth for everyone, hence why my connection has been unstable. She also said that they're going to be upgrading the capacity on the 18th which should fix it.
Another thing she mentioned was that, next month when orange and tmobile merge there's going to be more masts for our phones to connect to - more coverage and bandwidth. You can sign-up to trial this on the orange website.

[Q] LG G2 Noob here.

hello everyone. i just recently purchased a vzw LG G2 and was wanting to use it with cricket. I know there are many threads and posts about this but after 2 weeks of searching and literally trying everything i figured it was time to throw in the towel and post my situation. So as stated above i bought a LG G2 VS980 about 2 weeks ago and i currently have cricket service unlimted text/talk 20GB data. ok so ill list my issues and what i have tried to correct them
1. From the start i put my sim card in do the whole activiation thing over wifi and when my phone comes on it displays and H which i know is 3G service. I live in chula vista CA. my husbands phone recieves 4G LTE so i know we are in a good area. Now this is where it gets weird, when im connected to wifi the H turns to 3G and even 4G LTE will pop up randomly. My data works fine just slow of course and i cansend texts and calls but no MMS unless i use a 3rd party text app like Chomp or Textra.
2. The infamous sim card icon with a "?" . Are there any solutions to fix this? i have called LG tech support, cricket tech, took it into a cricket store, called VZW almost everything besides taking to a cell phone shop.
OK so i have tried every APN there is out there i have tried the ATT,AIO wireless, cricket, vzw, literally all of them and no diffrence besides recieving a MMS rarely. And yes i restarted my device after every APN input. My phone is currently set on global, when i try to switch to CDMA/LTE after 20-30 seconds it comes up with no network and says i must go back to global. i switch it to GSM and i have the GSM only or UMT only (maybe)? or GSM/UTMS. Not sure which one i put exactly but i put the GSM/UMTS mode and comes up the RAT networks here im confused and really didnt mess with it to much. but it will sometimes say E.
I am also wondering can i system update? i attempt to but it says failed. i kinda know that you cant update a device on any service besides its original one.
Now what are the harms of rooting and flashing? does my phone lose value? like i said im a NOOB here and this phone is literally brand new. I appreciate ANY help i get. If you have any questions PLEASE contact me asap. There is probably some info i forgot the add but i will be waiting for any kind folks to help me out

Note 4 no longer supported by T-Mobile No Network

My husband and I both have a stock N910T. When we woke up yesterday neither phone would get signal, and not even make wifi call. Went to TMo shop today they told me that they were no longer sending signal to Note 4's (Thanks for the heads up TMo). We really like these phones and I wonder if I could root them and flash a stable ROM and get service on them again. When I pull the sim it shows 5 bars, put the sim back and X. I have rooted many phones, but not since I got this one 6 years ago, so I'm sure I'm a bit rusty.
Any advice highly appreciated. TIA
I'm in the same boat with the note edge. It stopped working friday night for me. Put the sim in a stock note 4 and same thing, so I thought my sim card died. Went to the tmobile store on saturday and they said 2 people had came in with the same issue and they had note 4s.
What I don't understand is how they can just stop supporting a phone. I thought that if it accepts the sim card and has the proper bands it'll work. I mean for ****s sake my car takes a tmobile sim for a hotspot and traffic updates.
same exact. i just factory reset and updated stock to see if it would fix but it wont. Any solutions here??
Try to:
a. flash a custom TWRP (recovery) with Odin
IMPORTANT - after you flash TWRP PLEASE TAKE A FULL BACK-UP!
b. flash a custom ROM with root
c. why root? because you can change the build.prop file and "pretend" to be another phone (newer more likely) so that the lovely t-mobile can still allow your phone to connect to the network.
This way you have zero costs, you keep your note 4.
Unless it's too complicated or the procrastination level is TDH (too damn high)
Or you have the cash and buy something new(er).
There's info on this forum about all these steps.
Before you do anything - go and read, search on this forums and on youtube. There are a LOT of tutorials.
Please be careful and READ. Get educated about custom recovery/ROM's.
You will get good knowledge and your satisfaction on make things work will be enormous.
You will be responsible on your actions with the phone.
Good luck.
mine is already rooted with a custom rom. which parameters do you recommend changing in build.prop?
my audi is older than the note 4 and data works fine and calls work on a motorola L6 from 2005, so I doubt it's the age.
someone on reddit came up with a temporary solution until they fix this. you'll lose 4g/LTE tho
To set to 3G/2G turn on airplane mode and enter *#2263#* on the phone dialer. Then select GSM/WCDMA Auto. After that turn airplane mode off.
Hey all - same issue here - Note 4 stopped working Friday morning. I tried everything on my end (factory reset, ROM flash, SIM swap, etc). I even tore the phone down and checked the connections. I ordered a replacement SIM / SD card tray reader thinking that was the issue. Now I hear others having the same issue. I live in Colorado FWIW. Calling into T-Mobile now to see if I can get some info here.
---------- Post added at 02:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:31 PM ----------
After speaking on the phone with a tech support person, T-Mobile reported that they were aware of an issue with Note 4 users not being able to access the network. They said that they "were in contact with Samsung and were actively working on an issue" and reassured me that they would have a solution for customers soon. I sure hope so because I do not want to give up my Note 4!
Note 4 user here too. This sucks. I did the workaround on the dialer posted in one of the above posts, and now it connects. Says 4G at the top, but probably only 3G. That's fine for me in the meantime, but not acceptable in the long run. I just spent 2 days wiping the phone, unrooting, etc only to find this now! Got lots of work to do to get it back to my rooted state. Thankfully I have the backups to do it, just have to find the time now. Thanks T-Mobile!!
Has anyone heard any more on this issue?
Just had the same issue. Called T-mobile support and they had no idea of a widespread issue, said it was likely HW failure. I got a new SIM and that didn't help. Called local cellphone repair shop and they indicated they'd had several calls about this issue and fixed at least one so far by replacing the card reader. I applied the workaround above and got the phone working again so I don't understand why a new card reader is going to fix this.
Note 4 seems like it's back working on T-Mobile as of last night.
HI I purchased galaxy note 4 3 years ago in the first time I put him on i has that problem yet
But I live in curacao in the Caribbean and I think that the mother board was not good.
Then I has flight to medellin Colombia with the phone he began working I was glad but when I arrived to curacao from medellin the same problem
Sometimes he is working sometime not
I have the same problem T-mobile N910T

Thanks for the update! I reversed the workaround I applied earlier and mine is back to 4G LTE now.
Any update on this issue?
The N915-T is spotty and I'm trying to figure out why. It was officially kicked off the network by T-Mobile, but it still works. It connects to most towers but not to a particular one. Whenever I'm on that block the network can not be found. If I walk two blocks away it would connect to another tower and I can make calls. If I walk back toward the 'faulty' tower while on the call, the quality would degrade, the call drops and the phone would lose signal.
This would NOT happen with other phones - not even an older Galaxy S2.
This is likely a different issue altogether, as the phone actually connects and works elsewhere. I'm just hoping someone has an idea.
