What does "Increased Font Legibility" do? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Just wondering, with the newer, international ROMs, what the "Increased Legibility" actually does/adds/changes, compared to the MDL versions. Thanks!

It means the fonts from 4.3, which have been refined, have been pulled and incorporated into those ROMs

I believe it just sharpens the fonts. They're not pulled from 4.3 however as this feature was incorporated by Samsung prior to any GE leaks (not to mention there are no extra fonts in the firmwares including the new feature). I couldnt notice any difference in regular use but when you zoom in quite a bit its pretty noticeable.

Hes refering to the actual Samsung feature ' Increase Legibility' under display settings that was part of the firmware upgrades like mea, mf4, & mf8. Not custom roms that are pulling the new 4.3 roboto fonts.

Galaxy SII ICS (Android 4.0.3) released. Galaxy Note next???

I just saw this on SamMobile firmware page:
GT-I9100 - I9100XXLPJ - Android 4.0.3 - 2012 February - I9100OXALPJ - Open Europe
See: sammobile.com/firmware
It's starting??? Finally????
Not sure if it's helpful for us for the N7000, i suppose that a few drivers are in common, but it lacks the system UI and SPen. The stock frequencies are also differents.
Futur 'll us
so what about note??
Does it support switching to a normal Android 4.0 Holo launcher??
What it really means is that now they can start working full time for us, so the leaks should start dropping again... I hope

Galaxy S2 has been having ICS leaks for over a month now...?
As above ^ This really means nothing for us..
Here is the link as Korean SGII user uploaded the screenshot of the new ICS...
It is identical to the ones we got from the chinese leaked version which does not looks like pure ICS.
http://www.matcl.com/index.php?mid=fb3&document_srl=5304410
Samsung can`t launch a pure ICS, is the same in HTC... Samsung TW, HTC Sense :S... Port or wait to official release?

Why would you ever think you were going to get a pure ICS?
Well will this be usefull for development. Becuase they have to release sources and Gnote is almost similar to SgS2.....
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Well, touchwiz it is still better than pure ics who can't even make folders in the drawer.
I have a nexus and I still using go launcher, the contact section it is a skin, the functions are the same.
But if you want stock ics wait some weeks for a rom
It seems that Samsung is currently deploying ICS in Asia and Europe, the ICS release for Note is going to follow.
Hope this will help devs to release custom ROMs without this crappy Touchwiz
I see where ICS for the SGS2 released by sammy has already been rooted.
The first few "official" releases should have numerous exploits that allow for
root without too much trouble.
I'll just be glad to get root back. I screwed up on the last update and did it
from Kies and lost root and don't want to jump through the hoops of downgrading,
wiping etc just to get root back, knowing the ICS update will probably wipe it all out again anyway.

I don't give a f--- what is the real stock gingerbread looks like.... all I am saying and lot of people out there who updated this ICS yesterday wish the user interface is the same as the one in the galaxy nexus... Lot of galaxy note users and few developers are creating custom rom that looks similar to the pure ICS .

Touchwiz is Samung's way of branding their Android devices. If every manufacturer included stock Android in their phones, what would be the incentive to get one particular device over another, especially if the hardware of all high end devices from all manufacturers is almost identical? Unfortunately, if you want the stock Android experience you'll have to get a Nexus, or flash a stock rom built from the ICS source code. Can't have your cake and eat it too I guess..

Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 on Galaxy S3

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this so feel free to move it to the correct place if wrong.
I have a Galaxy S3 I9300T and have been using various Roms since I got the phone. In that time I have come to really like the Galaxy Nexus Vanilla Jelly Bean over the Touchwiz loader and am hoping that we will be able to get the full Jellybean experience without Touchwiz.
Will they still try and improve the Vanilla 4.1.1 or will they only concentrate on the Touchwiz version of jelly bean when it is released officially?
I have used the latest leak from the 28/8/12 I9300XXDLH8 (4.1.1) and I have found how much the Vanilla Jelly Bean is better for me. Is there anything that is stopping a 100% functional version of Jelly Bean (Same as the Galaxy Nexus) running on the Galaxy S3 or will it be only variations of the Touchwiz version?
There are only really little issues with the Vanilla ROM on the Galaxy S3 (Such as the memory leak, wifi tethering and the camera being part broken) so I am hoping these can be fixed as I really enjoy the OS the way it was supposed to be.
In that regard what is the best ROM at the moment that is using vanilla Jelly Bean?
Thanks
Matt
"what is the best rom" threads are usually thrashed here so good luck. There is no best ROM mate, try all AOSP/CM/AOKP roms and see which is better for you

Touchwiz is a modified version of Jellybean Android 4.1..Nexus JB which you are talking about is pure undiluted version of Android 4.1..hence it will be impossible to merge the 2..you can get a few features ported from one to another but a not good, stable hybrid as both of them use different framework..so either use CM10 or TW or a customized version of either of the 2...
Hope it clarifies...
Also I cannot comment on the best ROM as it is banned..try them out for yourself..read the OP and choose the one you like..
If u want the vanilla look and feel, get cyanogen mod 9 for a stable rom and 10 for that jelly bean feel but still in nightlies stages.
With the update coming, we are all subject to getting touchwhiz as samsung as spent many hours tweaking it. I like it once I got use to it but everyone has opinions and thats why we love Android

It is not so much the looks I really hate the Messaging App and the Dialer in Touchwiz and prefer the Jellybean version of it. I have seen that you can get the Android 4.1 Messaging App of the Play Store but I have not been able to get the dialer & contacts from the Jellybean Rom which I guess is the biggest part of what I want it for.
Those few changes and I believe I would be really happy with the Touchwiz version.

Thanks for the tip, it has the dialer I like coupled with the SMS/MMS App from Jelly Bean. I appreciate being pointed in the right direction!
It amazes me how No Android phone maker will listen to its customers and make an option to install vanilla android.
If someone bought Samsung Hardware and sold it as Vanilla they would make a fortune.
As usual big business knows better than its customers

[Discussion] Any News about Android [4.2.x]

Hello guys.....
As we all know that Samsung made a huge changes for thier smartphones with jellybean 4.1.2......
One more thing we all get bored with jellybean 4.1.2..... Is it right....???
And what do you think....??? And what changes going to be done in jellybean 4.2.x....... What features going to be add
Will samsung improve more (or) only make minute changes
Did you get any news (or) information about upcoming update or leaks for Jellybean 4.2
So what your opinion on this

I prefer 4.1.x to 4.2.x so I'll likely skip that update if it comes. I'm actually on 4.1.1 now after reversing back from 4.1.2 and I'm happy with it.
When I had my Nexus 4.2 was slower and buggier than 4.1.

personally, i dont really mind when we get 4.2.1. there arent that many add ons that i would consider significant enough to warrant an update.
want lockscreen widgets? most music apps already have them and some of the other apps on the market already do too.
want photo sphere? i dont see how samsung (or other app developers) wouldnt be able to add that themselves to their own camera app.
improved keyboard with gesture typing? we already have that.
multiple users? dunno about you guys but im the only one using my phone. sure, would be nice to lock out friends with a guest account when they borrow my phone, but not a necessity or something i'll use everyday.
wireless mirroring? cant we already do that with allshare?
daydream? not something i'd use since it pretty much stops the device from going to sleep, which will reduce battery life.
4.2.1 is mainly an improvement for those who are using unadulterated aosp and aokp, but for someone like me who doesnt actually mind touchwiz, its not significant enough for me to shout out whoop dee doo.

You folks do know that there has already been a 4.2.1 leak for the S3 a while back. Most likely they will start rolling it out after the S4 becomes commercially available.
The firmware wasn't very stable as it was a development build but it did contain many of the features that ship with the S4.
I imagine the Note2 version will contain some extra stuff.
You can get the S3 firmware from Sammobile.

I dont think we will ever get CM on 9500. Without sources from Samsung make coding for the exynos chipset is to freakin hard. Maybe we will get CM on the 9505. But in generall, CM team have lost their trust in Samsung devices. So we will see if we get CM on this device or not.
Question one
Why do we need aosp on s4 or even htc one?what advantage does it holds compared to the goodies of samsung rom?
Btw it's always good to have an option to choose from.

The runs faster argument is invalid with new gen phones and roms. The ui is sleek though and we can get the pure aosp look with aosp like themes.
I agree with the galore of themes available but again if Google adds theming support in their next iteration as mentioned in the rumor mill then it's going to be tough again.

As for theming, that falls to Samsung to add support for that. HTC had a couple of themes for the Sensation back in Sense 3.0

So I realy hope we will get CM on 9505. And pls dont ask why we need CM. They have done a amazing work, and gave us a choice beetween heavy bloated stock firmware or pure android butter smooth experience.

Lollipop *NOT* Confirmed for the SM-P600 (Arriving eventually)

Hi everyone. I was just chatting with a Samsung Representative and he/she has confirmed lollipop for the SM-P600 (at least in the US) very soon!
I have attached a screenshot of the conversation as proof of this exciting news.
SAMSUNG HASN'T FORGOT ABOUT THE NOTE 10.1 USERS!
I am sure Lollipop is coming to the SM-P60X devices eventually, but I would take the word of a lowest-level web support tech who is likely reading from a fill-in-the-blanks style script with SEVERAL grains of salt.
It will come when it comes.
The man stated that lollipop has been released for some versions already, which isn't true. It will come but there is no guarantee it will be soon as this guy in the chat doesn't seem to have a clue.
Out of curiosity: why is there so much interest in Lollipop for this tablet? I have Lollipop on my phone and 7 inch tablet, and KitKat on two of my Samsung tablets and I haven't noticed any features I'm missing on the Samsung tablets. Lollipop seems only slightly different, and I don't know if I can say it's any better. Am I missing some feature that would improve our Samsung tablet usage experience?

Leaner TouchWiz among others...
I think Samsung's history is that newer TouchWiz versions only ship with new products, I don't recall them shipping new TW versions on older devices - i.e. most likely TouchWiz will remain at the current functionality level even with the Lollipop update on the Note 2014.
Given how buggy Lollipop is/was - I almost want them to either go straight to M or at the very least get us 5.1.1. (Moto G Alarm did not sound today due to messy and buggy downtime settings - no thanks Lollipop!)

Not sure 5.1.1 is good enough. I have that on my phone and its performing worse than on the earlier lollipop versions. Could be a sign I need to upgrade my phone, but I think lollipop needs more work. Though I also think Samsung Touchwiz needs a lot of work too...

Yeah 5.1.1 is terrible with the s6, still has memory leak, ram management problems.. I'll stick to cm12 on my tablet

Lolipop on Tab S actually made it faster than ever whilst letting it use less ram. I think that our version would be closer to what was released on Tab S than S6

Errm not really. Yeah its smooth and all that but multitasking and switching apps is where it is absolutely terrible. I own the Tab S and only the scrolling lag and a few things are better. Ram usage is a ton higher and is terrible on lollipop.

I don't own one but I played with one running lollipop and it felt quite a lot faster/smoother than my Note 10.1 even when a new Rom was installed which I thought as weird given that they run the same hardware. Also checked Ram consumption after booting and it was 500-600 MB less as compared to my my Note's...
Of course all this may change after extended use. For example due to the ram bug that exists on many lollipop setups ram may go out of the window pretty fast. In which case performance may/will follow. But my initial experience was exactly that (as compared to KitKat): way more mature drivers.
Here's hoping -then- with all that extra time that Samsung put into it would fix any bug that lollipop brought to all other of her devices before releasing lollipop to our device.
The multitasking lag is a Google issue not something we can help. I would say that my Tab S is lightning quick now.
I sometimes wonder how google can **** up stuff like that, also the memory leak etc. I mean they are probably the richest company in the world and they hire the most intelligent people. And half the world will use their OS on multiple devices. IMHO they should only release new versions when they are sure that now big bugs are still present.
Lollipop definitely speeds this device up. I'm running the P905 port at the moment and it's awesomely snappy.
Any thoughts on gaining root access on Lollipop after updating?
My S4 had to root before updating and install a special update version...

I use a P905 port of Lollipop on my P605 and hadn't any problems to maintain root. Flashed Rom and twrp with odin, then Supersu via recovery.

Most likely not, you guys always seem to forget that P600 and P605 have totally different processors.
I, personally, do not like Lollipop on my Nexus 7. I do like KitKat on my Note 4.
What I'd really like to have KitKat on my US Note 10.1 (I have 4.4.2 and it says no other updates available). I haven't found anything in these forums about the US 4.4.3 or 4.4.4, but maybe I missed them.

It's not about lollipop. It's about the upgraded sources and drivers. To this day even the hardware of this tablet (espec the exynos version) goes untapped. Android version 5.0 would be a side-effect, the real "star" would be tapping more of the resources of the tablet.

These guys are running the same hardware as us but their (official) lollipop based Roms caused their tablets to ... take flight. Basically that's what many of us wait, more optimization.
I mean we can have (some of) it by using AOSP but then we lose proper MultiWindow and Pen Support. An official Lollipop release solves all...
