Hi everyone. I was just chatting with a Samsung Representative and he/she has confirmed lollipop for the SM-P600 (at least in the US) very soon!
I have attached a screenshot of the conversation as proof of this exciting news.
SAMSUNG HASN'T FORGOT ABOUT THE NOTE 10.1 USERS!
I am sure Lollipop is coming to the SM-P60X devices eventually, but I would take the word of a lowest-level web support tech who is likely reading from a fill-in-the-blanks style script with SEVERAL grains of salt.
It will come when it comes.
The man stated that lollipop has been released for some versions already, which isn't true. It will come but there is no guarantee it will be soon as this guy in the chat doesn't seem to have a clue.
Out of curiosity: why is there so much interest in Lollipop for this tablet? I have Lollipop on my phone and 7 inch tablet, and KitKat on two of my Samsung tablets and I haven't noticed any features I'm missing on the Samsung tablets. Lollipop seems only slightly different, and I don't know if I can say it's any better. Am I missing some feature that would improve our Samsung tablet usage experience?

Leaner TouchWiz among others...
I think Samsung's history is that newer TouchWiz versions only ship with new products, I don't recall them shipping new TW versions on older devices - i.e. most likely TouchWiz will remain at the current functionality level even with the Lollipop update on the Note 2014.
Given how buggy Lollipop is/was - I almost want them to either go straight to M or at the very least get us 5.1.1. (Moto G Alarm did not sound today due to messy and buggy downtime settings - no thanks Lollipop!)

Not sure 5.1.1 is good enough. I have that on my phone and its performing worse than on the earlier lollipop versions. Could be a sign I need to upgrade my phone, but I think lollipop needs more work. Though I also think Samsung Touchwiz needs a lot of work too...

Lolipop on Tab S actually made it faster than ever whilst letting it use less ram. I think that our version would be closer to what was released on Tab S than S6

Errm not really. Yeah its smooth and all that but multitasking and switching apps is where it is absolutely terrible. I own the Tab S and only the scrolling lag and a few things are better. Ram usage is a ton higher and is terrible on lollipop.

I don't own one but I played with one running lollipop and it felt quite a lot faster/smoother than my Note 10.1 even when a new Rom was installed which I thought as weird given that they run the same hardware. Also checked Ram consumption after booting and it was 500-600 MB less as compared to my my Note's...
Of course all this may change after extended use. For example due to the ram bug that exists on many lollipop setups ram may go out of the window pretty fast. In which case performance may/will follow. But my initial experience was exactly that (as compared to KitKat): way more mature drivers.
Here's hoping -then- with all that extra time that Samsung put into it would fix any bug that lollipop brought to all other of her devices before releasing lollipop to our device.
The multitasking lag is a Google issue not something we can help. I would say that my Tab S is lightning quick now.
I sometimes wonder how google can **** up stuff like that, also the memory leak etc. I mean they are probably the richest company in the world and they hire the most intelligent people. And half the world will use their OS on multiple devices. IMHO they should only release new versions when they are sure that now big bugs are still present.
Lollipop definitely speeds this device up. I'm running the P905 port at the moment and it's awesomely snappy.
Any thoughts on gaining root access on Lollipop after updating?
My S4 had to root before updating and install a special update version...

I use a P905 port of Lollipop on my P605 and hadn't any problems to maintain root. Flashed Rom and twrp with odin, then Supersu via recovery.

Most likely not, you guys always seem to forget that P600 and P605 have totally different processors.
I, personally, do not like Lollipop on my Nexus 7. I do like KitKat on my Note 4.
What I'd really like to have KitKat on my US Note 10.1 (I have 4.4.2 and it says no other updates available). I haven't found anything in these forums about the US 4.4.3 or 4.4.4, but maybe I missed them.

It's not about lollipop. It's about the upgraded sources and drivers. To this day even the hardware of this tablet (espec the exynos version) goes untapped. Android version 5.0 would be a side-effect, the real "star" would be tapping more of the resources of the tablet.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...oma-12-jul-t3155589/post62272383#post62272383
These guys are running the same hardware as us but their (official) lollipop based Roms caused their tablets to ... take flight. Basically that's what many of us wait, more optimization.
I mean we can have (some of) it by using AOSP but then we lose proper MultiWindow and Pen Support. An official Lollipop release solves all...

Hello guys.....
As we all know that Samsung made a huge changes for thier smartphones with jellybean 4.1.2......
One more thing we all get bored with jellybean 4.1.2..... Is it right....???
And what do you think....??? And what changes going to be done in jellybean 4.2.x....... What features going to be add
Will samsung improve more (or) only make minute changes
Did you get any news (or) information about upcoming update or leaks for Jellybean 4.2
So what your opinion on this

How's it going everyone. I'm new to this section of the forum as I just upgraded from a S3. I recently updated my Note 2 but it still shows 4.1.1 is there a 4.1.2 out? I'm in the US and not sure what is the latest stock version available for the Note 2. Any help is appreciated.
Maybe samsung will do the youtube fix with the bar

I prefer 4.1.x to 4.2.x so I'll likely skip that update if it comes. I'm actually on 4.1.1 now after reversing back from 4.1.2 and I'm happy with it.
When I had my Nexus 4.2 was slower and buggier than 4.1.

personally, i dont really mind when we get 4.2.1. there arent that many add ons that i would consider significant enough to warrant an update.
want lockscreen widgets? most music apps already have them and some of the other apps on the market already do too.
want photo sphere? i dont see how samsung (or other app developers) wouldnt be able to add that themselves to their own camera app.
improved keyboard with gesture typing? we already have that.
multiple users? dunno about you guys but im the only one using my phone. sure, would be nice to lock out friends with a guest account when they borrow my phone, but not a necessity or something i'll use everyday.
wireless mirroring? cant we already do that with allshare?
daydream? not something i'd use since it pretty much stops the device from going to sleep, which will reduce battery life.
4.2.1 is mainly an improvement for those who are using unadulterated aosp and aokp, but for someone like me who doesnt actually mind touchwiz, its not significant enough for me to shout out whoop dee doo.

I hope Samsung add a better way to manage your tabs in stock browser.( like the way in Dolphin Browser, Chrome etc.) :fingers-crossed:
I can't believe they didn't implemented such thing in first place, considering the fact that we have this ginormous screen.

You folks do know that there has already been a 4.2.1 leak for the S3 a while back. Most likely they will start rolling it out after the S4 becomes commercially available.
The firmware wasn't very stable as it was a development build but it did contain many of the features that ship with the S4.
I imagine the Note2 version will contain some extra stuff.
You can get the S3 firmware from Sammobile.

There wont be any update to NOTE 8 from SAMSUNG - even 4.3 will not happen. Sad but true - NOTE 8 is sold out, hardly available on some markets already, popularitiy of N8 is weaker than original first NOTE 10,1 which also got till 4.1.2 only - and is also dead for SAMSUNG already.
You would think that Samsung would at least give us 4.3 for the smart watch integration. I thought that's why they pushed out the updates for the S3 and the Note 2.
Take matters into your own hands! CM 11 ~ Android 4.4.2
Samsung does not provide an update for Polish .. And I thought that Samsung is more concerned about the updates ..
If note 8 is obsolete. Why is there a no 8 inch note pro version?..
I think the 8.4 pro version would be the most sold of the 4 new tablets announced
I believe we should get atleast 4.3 with trim and gear support. .. More useful for the n5100 with phone capabilities than a note 3 or s4
I don't care if they don't release update for a particular country as long as you can flash another country update using Odin

Not that any of the chit-chat in here is going to make any difference of what Samsung has already planned but imo, i guess this is the end of the line for note 8, as much as we all would like to think it isn't, even if it's way too early but oh well ... note 10.1 had 4.1.2 as the end of it's line, long dropped when it could've support all the newer android versions but it's all about marketing * forthe 2014 edition one*, so i guess we're waiting for almost a miracle to get 4.3 or jump to 4.4 according to samsung's policy, the only hope is that there isn't a newer note except that freaking large 12.2 or the bit older note 10.1 (2014) edition
i know i could easily flash any of the avaliable custom roms but touchwiz as much as most of us hate it is loaded with cool features "even if most of the time aren't used* that is missed on stock android
I got my 8.0 as a gift from the wife which is carrier based so I am on 4.1.2 and it don't seem like At&t will update any android tablets at all especially Samsung since it seems they rip apart the updates anyway and take away key features like galaxy gear support and Knox container.

If they cared about Note 8 device itself, they would already launch an update together with Note 2/S3 in order to get more possible GEAR buyers. I quess for that price they were selling N8 - sold qtys were too small to keep Samsung maintaining this device at fresh state. S3/N2 sold milions so possible customer base for GEAR was much higher - therefore the rush. With the army of new 2014 tablets, if N8 will get 4.3 we could be happy - but do not expect any new software (S-NOTE ot that new UI from them). We will just get old software base same as N2 got with 4,3 update - it hasnt new Snote officially like N3, (but it is possible to run - thats another story.)
I am also going back to 4.1.2 - some quirks that they disabled in 4.2.2 update make me not more happy than lockscreen widgets - so i am reverting back also because of TabletUi. And already searching for 8" Windows 8 tablet - as soon as ASUS Note8 will be out, i might get it if there will be 3G version (but doesnt have hdmi, pity). I wont buy any other Android tablet anymore - i still need more desktop to use, 3G and JumpDesktop via RDP to my server makes Note8 perfect companion, but it will be better to run my programs natively on the go and i can ditch S-Note app to full MS ONE NOTE and full Excel layout compatibility with my customers.
If samsung didn't provide an 4.4 update for the note 8 thise will be the last samsung device i'll buy n i don't wanna hear some hardware **** compatibility i've had enough from the frist galaxy
So say goodbye to your galaxy, because we will not see any more updates past 4.2.2.

Have you tried Civato's 4.2.2? Been my DD for a while now and does quite well for me. VNC works well to work laptop so connection has been smooth.
As far as Win8 goes I've been running the Dell Venue Pro 8 (64Gb on board and 64Gb uSD) for a couple months and must say Dell did this right. Odd size 8.3 screen so cases and protectors a challenge. Great screen, very snappy processor and overall a great buy. (got mine for $320) You might want to look at it.

A big reason why I didn't care as much for the unveiled TabXPros they launched. They aren't supporting the tablet they overcharged for last spring, why should I buy another tablet from them?
And I was mulling the GPe G-Pad and the N8.4Pro, easier decision now.

what, if you watched some of CES 2014 presentations, Samsung bring with new 4.4 UI that never going to make it to CM 11. Don't take me wrong I love what CM does, but i have love and hate relationship with Samsung and its flagship UI (TouchWiz, or new UI called Magazine UI)...
In addition, there's, as far as I can see, no stable CM 11 version for Note 8, except BeanStalk 4.3's CM based ROM, but still nothing officially supported. if you check Note 8 developer section, you will see there's not a lot of development going on for our note 8 tablet.
unless some brave developer(s) jump in and port Note 3 4.3 stock ROM to our Note 8.0
@sbrissen doing a great job with Official CM, so one Developer is there @civato for a stockbased ROM, two developer are here @ryukiri make OMNI for us, in future (when this odd storage problem is fixxed) OMNI is Official.
Offcource there are more Devs, great Devs, but this Three are the popular in the Note 8 Section (since i am lurking here )
A port from the Note 3 is really, really bad ass hard work. You musst port them over from Quallcomm to Exynos, thats really hard. So don't expect this.
The only thing i missed is a Custom Kernel like civatos for CM

I'm willing to attempt to make a custom kernel this summer when I have more free time. Right now, I'm super pressed on time due to loads of school work, tests, and stuff.
And to clarify some confusion, Omni IS official for us right now, just no nightlies yet as I'm still working on adding support in the kernel. Also, PAC 4.4 will be official when everything is ready. (We're all working to add new features and stabilizing stuff to give you guys the best possible experience).
So... do we start calling this tablet an "orphan" by Samsung? I didn't want to regret moving away from Google's "Nexus" line when I bought my TabPro 8.4, but... how long are we going to be stuck on 4.4.2?
It would be great if we got an upgrade to 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 along with some bugfixes. Since it looks like an HTC-built Nexus 8" tablet is coming soon, if by the time it comes out we're still stuck on "NG1 4.4.2" I might have to re-consider my options...
If anyone has any news on this subject it would be great to hear!
Also, out of curiosity, what version of Android is the Tab S currently at?

What exactly are you missing in 4.4.3 or 4.4.4? They both are pretty minor updates. All Samsung's high-end tablets from the N10.1-14 on are on 4.4.2 so no one has something you don't. People who put a high priority on updates shouldn't buy devices with an overlay.
is any Samsung device running 4.4.3? To my understanding the Tab S and Galaxy S5 are still on 4.4.2. The cosmetic updates in 4.4.3 won't be noticed since Touchwiz covers them up anyway. I read Samsung implemented the 4.4.4 security patches in it's own separate firmware updates.
Well, the webview enhancements in 4.4.3 improve performance of any app which uses webview.
Also, pretty sure I saw quite a few mentions of various other Sammy devices getting 4.4.3 firmwares uploaded onto sammobile.com which was starting to irk me.
As long as I get android L I'm happy

The biggest problem I have with it isn't the lack of an update, but the sluggishness of the OS. It's an octa-core processor with a 1.9gHz clock speed on four of them! Also the Wifi was better on my iPad 2 than on this brand new device!
Should've chosen something with a Quallcom processor, then I could have some decent custom ROMs...
A 4.4.4 update came out yesterday (9/10) for my T-Mobile Galaxy S4, so hopefully that mean it'll come out for the Tab Pro soon. The update does not update the UI. I'm not aware of a 4.4.4 update for other S4 and the S5. I believe T-Mobile pushed the update because it includes a new in-flight (airplane) text function/service they'll advertise next week.

The issue in my opinion is the show of support from the manufacturer, giving us the latest update is a sign of good faith whilst not doing so, esp after 7 months shows they don't really care about tab pro users.
There is NO Galaxy Tab with Android >4.4.2 - so why do you moan they don't care about Tab Pro users when there is no newer version on newer tablets (e.g. Tab S)?

Once Samsung have your money they really don't give a damn about supporting your product.
My Galaxy W (i8150) was abandoned by them within 6 months of release and never received an update from GB to ICS even though similar age and spec models by them did.
The S3 has been dumped at JB 4.3 because they can't fit all their bloatware into the KK ROM.
The TabPRO seems to be EOL after less than a year.....
It's par for the course with Sammy unfortunately - which is why we are lucky to have such an amazing amount of support from Dev's on XDA.

I don't expect to be able to hold the 4:3 Nexus 8" tablet in one hand, like I do with my Tab Pro 8.4.
I also imagine it won't have an SD Card.
But the regular OS updates to seem tempting.
My hand gets tired very quickly when I try to hold the Tab Pro 8.4 in one hand, so I don't see the Nexus 8 being any different in that regard.
I'm only using 900MB of the 64GB SD Card in my Tab Pro -- 62GB free.
Reason is, there are barely any apps I can move to SD card, and even then there are side-effects like the icon won't stay on my home screen so I end up just moving them back to main memory. Also I have Google All-Access Music so I don't need to keep lots of music on my tablet. And for videos/movies, I use Netflix and PLEX so no need to keep videos locally on the tablet. So obviously, i'd be ok with a Nexus tablet without SD card slot. ( But I would still try to go for a 32GB+ )
Also, i have some minor build quality issues with my Tab Pro 8.4 -- in particular there seems to be some very minor "squeaky/creaky" noises when I touch certain areas of the touch screen or around the bezel. Not a serious issue, mind you, but in contrast both my Nexus S and Nexus 4 have zero build quality issues.
Hey, I saw on twitter today that the "T-Mobile" version of the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) is getting a 4.4.4 update soon!
Good news, right? Becuase it means the GTP version of that firmware update may be coming up soon afterwards. At least for the GTP 10.1" version.
Not sure about the GTP 8.4, it's pretty different from the Note 10.1 ...
I use link2sd app in the playstore great app, been using for a few years now. Native app2sd is not that great

Just use a custom ROM and you will have a newer version. I have already lost faith in Samsung for their software.
I have a new slogan for Samsung, "It is, what it is". You could follow that with "take it or leave it" I bought my gt p 8.4 with no expectation of any updates. If I get one I will be thrilled.

I have been rockin with:
Full/Debloated - Rooted - DeOdex - T320XAR1ANG1 - (08/03/14) on my T320.
This thing runs almost as good as my Note 3 running Alliance.
I tried the Daydream ROM and it was VERY lite on system storage but it had issues with some of my gaming.
It's nice to re live the good old Game Boy Advance and N64 days on this huge high res screen...
The lack of a OTG USB controller puts my Moga Pro Power to great use.
I use my Note 3 to email the boss to let him know that I cant get to work until the ice melts.
GAME ON ANYWHERE
Is the latest always the greatest?
Not always!
Do you remember SD card disaster with 4.4.x?
Samsung has a great upgrade program. Every time a new version of Android is released, they release a new tablet running it.
But seriously, I'm not too concerned about 4.4.2 to 4.4.4. I would rather they develop a Lollipop release. Fine with me if they take a couple of months to get it right. I'll be needing it on the Tab Pro 8.4 and Note 10.1 (2014).
I have the Tab Pro 4 10.1, Tab 3 7" and the Nexus 7 2012. My Nexus 7 2012 had gone through all the updates to Lollipop but none of my Samsung devices have any updates for months while the Nexus 7 the oldest of all the three have all these updates that just keeps on coming. I'm getting frustrated with Samsung because until now my Samsung tablets are stuck at 4.4.2. If Samsung can release a new phone/tablet every 3 months with the latest OS then why can't they update the OS of the older ones at the same rate? Why do we ever bother reading the news about Android's latest Lollipop if we can't even get them on time? All I see is - it's coming, yeah right! What kind of software developers or engineers they have in there? Maybe they only have one guy working on it that's why it's taking so long or never at all. With all that money that they have, they can't even do this simple things. I guess that's why they couldn't beat Apple at their own game. Anyway, I'm out. Thanks for reading!

Just what do you see on Lollipop that makes you want it so bad.
I have purposely turned off OS updates on my N7 as don't want it. The device has not enough power to operate more and more memory intensive OS.
I let my N4 get updated and now regret it. Had no problems prior but now the battery drains overnight if left on standby. I used to let it go for several days before charging now I have to ensure it is plugged in and recharged nightly. This battery drain is being experienced by others. I don't want to have to do a complete factory reset and load everything again which is what some people recommend when doing these updates. Lollipop to me offers nothing that I want and it removed the ability to quickly close all apps which now must be done individually a pain. That plus the chance of other problems makes me want to leave my tab as is.
Google makes the Nexus line.
Google makes Android.
It's to be expected that a Nexus gets the Android updates first.
I'm under the impression the TabPros are getting Lollipop in Jan/Feb sometime with the rest of the year old devices, is that way out to lunch? If they aren't, I will be jumping to CM12 way sooner than later!

I just installed cm12 on my tab pro 8.4 and its freaking amazing. Just for laughs I backed everything up and loaded touchwiz back onto it cause its been awhile, i put cm11 on it like a week after I got it. Anyways, I loaded touchwiz back onto it and I couldn't believe how bad it sucked, and I had it debloated, rooted and finevtuned! My advicemis... Screw stock LP and just upgrade to cm12

Whats so good about lollipop..... wellllll, on my phone after lollipop update I went from a 32k antutu to a 48k antutu, after lollipop im getting noticeably better performance in browsing and gaming, after lollipop im getting MUCH better battery life, after lollipop my phone runs like I want it to. As for being more memory intensive better look again. In its initial release lollipop had a memory leak, that was fixed so now it is easier on your device than kitkat. As for the close all in recent tasks which has been renamed...its still there. As always brand specific features will overwrite stock features though.
So in short why would someone want lollipop? It is simply better in almost every way. One of the few updates I have thought worthy of taking.

Dude, yes. This a hundred times. I was going to return this stupid tablet (10.1) because the TW ROM is so horrifically bad and sluggish. With CM12 it flies.
Yup, it'll either be out this year, next year, or the year after that. Trust me. Don't worry about it. Keep buying Samsung tablets, they're great.
I see a thread just like this one on every single device I've ever owned. A spoiled baby crying that they don't get updates right away. If you want updates so fast why would you get anything but Nexus? Go install CM12 & be happy.
Reminds me of Veruca Salt

lol seriously? 4.4.2 is just so out of date, it makes sense everyone is complaining.
not to mention, there's so many dumb bugs on the official GTP 8.4 firmware that it's pretty obvious this model is an "afterthought" for samsung
i actually don't expect ANY further updates for this model, it's pretty clear that when a company replaces a product with a newer product just 4 months after the product comes out (Tab S) they consider the first product a failure and don't care about it anymore

It is not that out of date cmon man. If/when 5.0 drops you will see a new thread dedicated to how bad it is on the tablet & asking how to go back to kitkat. If you want loli so bad why not play with cm12? If updates are such a priority to you why did you get this device? It has been like this for pretty much every non nexus device. Some get updates pretty quick, but most have to wait months.

hi bro, would you care to check something for me? I'm reluctant to flash cm12 until I know this.
in CM12 for tab pro 10.1 if you set an unlock pattern. does it appear on the first screen after pushing power button(like stock) or do you have to swipe for it to appear? (which means additional screen/step before unlock)
edit: oh well, nevermind..

Are you really happy with that Lollipop on your Nexus 7 (2012)? I also own a Nexus 7 (2012) which became useless after Lollipop update.
Guys, go and visit the Nexus 7 sub-forum here and see how frustrated are those people after they got Lollipop.
I am really happy with my Samsung's (especially with 8.4), I wouldn't trade my milliseconds lag for a 30 seconds Lollipop lag and I will wait some good time when the update will become available.

True. Samsung sucks on updates.
Having said that, the only thing I miss from lollipop on my tablet is the smart clip feature. Almost everything else is available through third party app, root and Xposed. It's still one of the greatest tablets on the market. Which is the good thing about Samsung - the hardware is majorly future proof.
I wish they'd update the spen and snote features independent of system updates. Would make life so much easier.

Do we really need another thread on this?
If you are unsatisfied, then say something to them. Doing so on here won't help anyone. I have lollipop on my 607T and wish I never downloaded it, as I didn't have issues with the Bluetooth audio skipping. Lollipop may be a better OS overall, but it still comes with bugs even though it is 5.1.1

nexus (singular), nexi (plural)
Samsung has way too many devices out and therefore does only support the ones that have the biggest impact. Though I like to see at least 5.1.1 officially supported I feel it is wishful thinking and also made me turn my back on Samsung all together and I will enjoy the rest of it's life with a community ROM. (Although I did notice the developer just announcing he is stopping). It does run fine with 4 4.2 as well so 18 more months and I will allow myself a better supported tablet
I love this tablet, it is great in pretty much every aspect, except internal memory. I wished it could've been available in 64 and 128 GB variants, but it is what it is.
UPDATES though is the point where Samsung sucks. I'm running Marshmallow already on my Nexus 7 tablet (it's great by the way, smoother and faster than Lollipop) and only about to get Lollipop on this tablet. What the F... Samsung?!
I think it would be great to get Marshmallow to this tablet but I have a gut feeling that it is never going to happen

Yes it will, when pigs fly square circles around my living room....
But seriously, this tablet is now 2 years old(close enough), the agreement was to keep updated for 18 months... Be thankful we got 5.1.1 and not the less desirable 5.0 with its memory leaks and other problems...
