XBMC issue - video keeps skipping - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi ,
Got galaxy s4 yesterday - i9500 exynos version.
first thing I did was to install xbmc. Installed fine but video keeps skipping or always plays at a fast pace and the audio hence choppy.
video playback is problematic with all files sd or hd, with any codec, streaming or local.
Tried several builds of xbmc - last beta build, last three nightlies, libstagefright alpha5, xaf build- all have the exact problem.
Changing video sync settings didnt help.
Video plays fine on mx player.
my galaxy s4 i9500 is on stock 4.2.2 not rooted, have mx arm7 codec(with dts) for neon devices installed.
Searched xbmc forum and xda forums for any issues on s4 but was unable to find anything.
any suggestions will be very helpful. it will be a delight to provide anymore details if needed.
ANYONE SUCCESSFULLY USING XBMC ON S4?
thanks
This is a copy of the thread i posted on xbmc android forums, posting here to get help from s4 users.

Anyone...please

email the developers, let them know that they need to update their apps for android 4.3. if their app users dont tell them, they might not know that it needs an update until much later on.

I have seen in other threads that VLC (nightly) now works with 4.3. The link below says the fixed version it is not yet available on the playstore.
See: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=112549
I'm still holding out for MX Player Pro hoping that it will be fixed before the OTA gets to my machine. The OTA has begun to rollout on Jul 26th late at night on US east coast (Florida was one place mentioned).
Vplayer has 4.3 support, but give it a few days for the rest

video players not working android 4.3
the same happen to me. vlc beta plays only audio but no video, mx player pro unsupported android version. Hopefully they will fix this.
So VLC only plays audio for me, and VPlayer is really really laggy. Like, videos are only showing half of their frames.
Are there any actually functional video players on 4.3 right now?

...did... did you read my post? I said VPlayer is incredibly laggy on my Nexus 4, almost non-functional.
Guys, sorry to derail this topic, but
How do you send mkv files to the Nexus 4?
When I connect it to my PC there's no option to use it as a traditional drive copy/pasting files from my computer.
Thanks in advance.

You need to update from JRW66N to the JSS15J or JSS15Q.

Thanks for helping me
but this is the first time i used android
Can you teach me how to do that?
I don't believe this has anything to do with the version of 4.3 you are using. I haven't gotten the update yet and MX Player works fine on my N7. You haven't really given much information to work with. Maybe try reinstalling.

I was having problems installing MX player pro while the normal free version worked fine with same built version. Then I uninstalled free version and installed MX player pro and it installed. I have installed mx player pro and free version simultaneously on my other devices.
I suggest install Vplayer as its more stable than MX player.Wait a bit and see how MX player is updated.
Also go into Settings then apps and the select MX player n then clear cache n data.
I personally love MX player but there are innumerous video players. Find them in apps and themes etc

MX Player from Play is not compatible with 4.3. Wait for an update or go to developer's page and download a Beta for 4.3 (before installing an app read first all about it on play).

The one on Play is working fine for me now (it wasn't when the new Nexus first came out, but a week or so later a working version appeared).

On Play there is still the message :
"
What's New
THIS VERSION IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH PRE-RELEASE ANDROID 4.3. PLEASE VISIT HOME PAGE FOR COMPATIBLE VERSION
"
For me it installed but was crashing with most videos I tried to play. The beta one from the web was more stabile. I tried this 2 days ago, not sure what is today's status.
I wonder what they mean by pre-release there? I see farther down in the list of fixes in current version are specific mentions of fixes for 4.3. Definitely a confusing page .

Been using the one off the play store since he updated it like mentioned about 1 week after release. Sporting version 1.7.18.
As a good alternative VLC player does a good job as well.

Yes, and the "4.3 version has the same number as the "release" one, to make it even more confusing.:
https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/download
For me it made a difference (but did not use it a lot), a video clip which is crashing the play version after 30 seconds of play, did not have problems with the "4.3" version.
BS player (another good player) does not have sound now, as they removed all Dolby codecs (license dispute).Older versions have sound but do not use HW acceleration on 4.3 (the latest one does, but no sound for any Dolby audio which is a lot including camera recorded clips).

I tried the free version from Play on my full stock tablet and it crashed when trying to open.
make sure u use the correct codecs for mx player pro, and i use SW encoding, its much better then HW encode
a good video to test this out is fraunhofer nexus 7 sound test

download the vid using ytdownloader app

BS Player doesn't have the DTS codec though. VLC is a better choice if MX doesn't work IMO.

[Q] 4.4.4 & youtube

Does the update to 4.4.4 fix the issue with youtube? I have a rooted N10 but have not done much else with it. I am running 4.4.3. Youtube will not work. The problem is not just my N10 but I have a Driodpro phone running 2.3 and it also will not show youtube videos.

I've been on 4.4.4 for a week now but use an alternate YouTube player call Viral and am not having issues. I actually have the pro version. In the settings there is a checkbox for HD acceleration. Not sure if that can help. I like it's interface which allows color and fonts can be themed.

Nexus 4 Video playback is pixelated

ive recently realised that when i play videos on my nexus 4 majority of the video is pixelated. which makes any movie or anyting completely useless to watch.
at first i thought maybe its the video file. so I tried it on my Xperia T, but it was fine no pixelation whatsoever. I tried it on my pc, no pixelation. I tried it on my ps3 and ps vita again no pixelation. Also BTW its not just a specific video file, anything i try to watch on the nexus 4 goes pixelated through majority of the video.
Then I thought that maybe its the media player that im using on the phone. it wasn't. i tried MX player, vlc for andriod, ES player and even the default video player. same thing on all of them; it pixelates in exactly the same places.
something that i also noticed is that on MX player when i play the video it doesn't play using the HW decoder only HW+ and SW, which is even more mind boggling because on my Xperia T it plays fine on HW.
can someone please help me with this. i would like to avoid factory resetting the phone if possible but if all else fails i may have to do it.
any help is appreciated.
THANKS

[Q] Audio & video out of sync

Hi guys, I have small but annoying issue with my Nexus 10:
When watching a video (in any app, including youtube) the audio and the video are slightly out of sync. This is noticeable even for the smallest file and gets a lot worse at 2gb+ movies. I understand the tablet has to cope with this huge resolution but even with 100mb videos? I noticed this on 4.4.2 but it's the same on 4.4.4.
Now, I wonder could somebody recommend a ROM where this issue is not present? I heard SlimKat was pretty good for example but I dont know how it handles video playback.
Thanks in advance

Anyone? I also wonder if custom kernel would help

I never had this issue. You could try to use a custom kernel. If that doesnt work I suggest you try out f2fs.

That is strange. Have you downloaded a video and tried watching it directly from your N10? This would maybe rule out a slim chance of an internet or wifi issue. I only say this because I had a weird issue with my wifi that was causing slow and strange results including audio/video out of sync.
What are you currently running - i.e. kernel and ROM?

Ah yes, also for downloaded files. And it gets worse with larger files.
I'm running stock 4.4.2. Maybe Lollipop will fix it..Btw I've found Dice Player in the meantime, which has audio offset functionality - this was the quickest fix for now

Hi,
When playing some super high quality videos I face this problem too. But on KitKat update and using MX Player SW decoder I can play any file without problems. I suggest you to try it!
