ive recently realised that when i play videos on my nexus 4 majority of the video is pixelated. which makes any movie or anyting completely useless to watch.
at first i thought maybe its the video file. so I tried it on my Xperia T, but it was fine no pixelation whatsoever. I tried it on my pc, no pixelation. I tried it on my ps3 and ps vita again no pixelation. Also BTW its not just a specific video file, anything i try to watch on the nexus 4 goes pixelated through majority of the video.
Then I thought that maybe its the media player that im using on the phone. it wasn't. i tried MX player, vlc for andriod, ES player and even the default video player. same thing on all of them; it pixelates in exactly the same places.
something that i also noticed is that on MX player when i play the video it doesn't play using the HW decoder only HW+ and SW, which is even more mind boggling because on my Xperia T it plays fine on HW.
can someone please help me with this. i would like to avoid factory resetting the phone if possible but if all else fails i may have to do it.
any help is appreciated.
THANKS

Hey, if anyone is using CM9; n their device and want to watch video, you might have noticed flash works fine. That's because flash uses.a software decoder, whereas most video apps use the hardware decoder (battery? No stuttering? Idk ) but if you want to watch videos, you could try the MX Player for android on the market. It has a setting to use a software decoder, therefore giving you proper video colour playback.
Ah ok. For me vplayer is better

Videos played by my nexus have an odd choppy feel. Every five seconds or so, the player pauses for a very noticeable moment, then continues. Is anyone else experiencing this?

No problems regarding smoothness.
The only problem I have is that nothing seems to have audio (using mxPlayer)

Now I seem to have problems with games. Is this a hardware issue or OS related?

No. My nexus runs very well. Are you on 4.1.1

Yes.
Is it a background app causing it? I read about a few phones having this issue in the past.

I'm on 4.1.1, not rooted and I've noticed the same problem. When playing a video or certain games every 5 seconds or so there is a slight pause. I've tried different video players and still the same issue.

Having the same issues but it seems to happen more with games especially tegra 3 games like a riptide. the funny thing is is I swear I remember playing riptide and It had no lag. I can't remember whether it was prior to the 4.11 update.
Same here! I tried watching the Transformer movie we got for free and it kept freezing up! This is irritating, I'm going to try a factory reset. I'm exchanging this thing any way cause the headphone jack is defective.
From my long awaited and totally worth it EVO LTE!
Same issue here after upgrading to 4.1.1. Anyone here having this issue on a custom ROM? If not then I'm flashing a ROM ASAP.

Try other video players (MX Player, BSPlayer)
Was this apparent before 4.1.1? I just got my 7 yesterday and updated right away and do notice the stutter w/ my high profile 720p vids. On my Prime stuttering was fixed with over clocking and running an interactive governer.
Edit: this is for 720p high profile movies stored on the device, happening w/ dice player and MX player. Don't use stock since it doesn't support ac3 audio.
stock n7 with latest ota updates, unlocked and rooted. No problem playing any game and video, either stream from play store (transformer movie) or stream my my home network.

It doesn't matter if it's on the device or not, it happens when I stream the transformer movie and/or any YouTube video. I'm about to return this back to Google if I don't find a solution soon. Going to try a data factory reset and see if that helps.

Yeah looks like its happening for me on YouTube as well.
I just put a video on my device from my PC and it played fine. But if I stream anything it plays like crap

Did some more testing. Tried the stock player and no stutter but no sound due to no ac3 support. I have another 7 coming in on Monday and will test that one leaving it as is (before 4.1.1 update)
I just got off the phone with Google and they said it's probably a issue with my router streaming media on the device. I'm going to test another WiFi connection sometime soon and see if the issue persist or not.

I'm having problems with this, I can't watch a single video on this device without the lag. I've tried the youtube app, Netflix, dice player and a few other video apps and everyone of those lag.

There is a arm7 codec available in the market for the mx player. I am running avi files without issues.

The arm7 codec is for Tegra 2 processor. It will install the codecs but if you don't have a Tegra2 processor theres no real point. I know this as I need to install the arm7 codecs for my Acer A501 but have installed them on my SGS3 too. I deleted them with no difference in playing videos from the S3. They are not needed and aren't used by anything other than the ARM7 cpus... Waste of space and time installing them...
MX Player is great! Have you tried switching to software mode? Usually if it doesn't play in HW mode then SW mode fixes it.
I've stopped updating it since version 1.6f. That was the last version that still had DTS audio support and it still works great!!

Yeah, software decoding is good but I prefer HW decoding for video and SW decoding for audio. Works brilliantly well...:good:

I have yet to run across any video to stock video player will not play. What type of problems are you running into you with a stock video player?
I have had a few where a weird rip has happened for audio. Video plays and audio won't on stock player. I tend to use avi, mp4, matroska(mkv) and other video files but depending on how they were ripped I find certain players work well and others don't. I've also found some of the larger files use the cpu intensively for video and audio goes out of sync. Software for audio seems to fix this...
Most files work on the stock player but it's annoying to find one you can't play...
Hi,
i've faced the issue not having a GUI interface anymore when i touch the screen.

email the developers, let them know that they need to update their apps for android 4.3. if their app users dont tell them, they might not know that it needs an update until much later on.

I have seen in other threads that VLC (nightly) now works with 4.3. The link below says the fixed version it is not yet available on the playstore.
See: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=112549
I'm still holding out for MX Player Pro hoping that it will be fixed before the OTA gets to my machine. The OTA has begun to rollout on Jul 26th late at night on US east coast (Florida was one place mentioned).
Vplayer has 4.3 support, but give it a few days for the rest

video players not working android 4.3
the same happen to me. vlc beta plays only audio but no video, mx player pro unsupported android version. Hopefully they will fix this.
So VLC only plays audio for me, and VPlayer is really really laggy. Like, videos are only showing half of their frames.
Are there any actually functional video players on 4.3 right now?

...did... did you read my post? I said VPlayer is incredibly laggy on my Nexus 4, almost non-functional.
Guys, sorry to derail this topic, but
How do you send mkv files to the Nexus 4?
When I connect it to my PC there's no option to use it as a traditional drive copy/pasting files from my computer.
Thanks in advance.
hey
i was looking for a program to convert my videos so i can watch them optimally on the nexus 7
any suggestions?
thanks

I don't think you need to re-encode your videos. Personally, I just use MX player. It supports almost all video formats. You can download the app for free on the Play Store.
+1 for MX Player.
Can't say I've found a video it won't play tbh.

+1 for MX player. So far plays anything I've thrown at it.
1080p Anime MXV files no problem.
Only files I have had problems with were ones that were poorly encoded.
