First of all, it's already confirmed that the CDN and US GS4 for GSM/HSPA/LTE carriers already supports flashing the Google ROM.
Second, it would support the 2600 MHz coverage on Bell and Rogers, but Bell has only limited zones for 2600 LTE.
I just moved to Vancouver with my i9505.. Could you please tell me which carries support it? Other than Rogers, Telus and Bell.. they seem to be very expensive

Um what do you mean "other than" Rogers, Telus, and Bell? Those are the major carriers. Their sub-brands Fido, Koodo, Virgin (and Telus MVNO PC Mobile) are marginally cheaper.
The device is not expected to be compatible with WIND or Mobilicity.

Hi,
I bought an x10 from 3 hong kong, fully unlocked. I brought it back to Canada and there's no 3G! I checked all the frequencies and should be all compatible, entered rogers APNs and still no 3G.
Is it possible to get the x10 to work on 3G on rogers?
No unfortunately. The X10 you got from Hong Kong is the international version and it does NOT have the correct 3G bands for Canada/US. You do get quad band GSM but you can only get EDGE. You would need the American version of the X10 in order to get 3G.
Yeah, tough luck. I'm still confused as why AT&T and T-mobile has different 3G bands. Rogers and AT&T use WCDMA 1900 MHz bands while T-mobile and what feels like the rest of the world (just kidding, but at least Europe too) uses WCDMA 2100.
Stop me if I'm way out of my league but my question is WHY?
And isn't it possible to just buy the phone from Rogers directly, cash?
Yea you can buy the phone from Rogers directly with cash but it is still locked. You need to get it unlocked before using it on another carrier.
Why do you need it unlocked if in Canada Rogers is the only one using that frequency?
that's the problem. i can't use rogers phones since i travel a lot. i have to buy a world phone of some sort.
I heard you can root your phone and change the frequencies. is that possible?
I was assuming Flamso might need it for AT&T or some other carrier. Also, it's not just Rogers that uses the frequence. We do have Telus and Bell now. Buy an X10, get it unlocked and use it on Telus or Bell.
Telus and Bell aren't CDMA?
I know Fido and Rogers are the same.
You shouldnt have a tough time selling that one here. Doesnt it support the aws band that wind mobile runs on? AWS 1700 i think

what color you have? I have a BNIB unlocked X10i white wanting to trade for a X10 locked to rogers
email me if interested
i have the luster white x10i from one of the ebay seller in HK, and it works with T-mobile USA 3G network. UMTS band is 900/1700/2100. Rogers are using 800/850/1900/2100. I dont think you could change the frequency as it is part of the hardware.
Is there a way you can boost edge speed? i can't load facebook or weather with edge. it always times
Cheapest Canadian X10 unlock: http://www.mobileincanada.com/?l=en&u=all&coupon=facebook $5 CAD
T-Mo US and AT&T use different frequencies because spectrum is regulated. Whoever has the deeper pockets can buy more of it.
T-Mobile & Wind Mobile use the same 3G frequency (Band IV 1,700 Mhz) whereas Rogers and AT&T use Band V 850 Mhz.
Telus and Bell Mobility are also now HSPA so you can use unlocked Rogers 3G devices on their network too.
Bell has a tool on their website where you enter in your IMEI and it'll tell you if it's compatible: http://www.bell.ca/support/PrsCSrvWls_GettingStartedGuide.page#4
Scroll down to: Q: How do I check to see if I can bring my phone to Bell?

the Hong Kong X10i version will support T-mobile USA 3G network. the UMTS bandwidth is 1/4/8 which is 900/1700/2100. I got my luster white from hong kong ebay seller, and it works with T-mobile USA 3G network. For X10a (american version) the UMTS bandwidth is 800/850/1900/2100.
so that's why they have x10i and x10a
hardware difference for the 3G network to link with.
x10a is designed for north america
x10i can link on at&t's 3G just because it match
Just sign up with WIND mobile and enjoy because the X10i is compatible with the AWS band (same for T-Mobile down south). But if you are out of their coverage area then there won't be any 3G service (falls back to GSM + EDGE).
The X10a from Rogers will work with Telus and Bell HSPA 3G networks once you have it unlocked.
it does not matter what kind of x10 firmware you have. if your phone is originally a x10a, it has att 3g bands that works with rogers. if you flashed it with x10i firmware, you can still use the 3g because flashing the firmware does not change the bands.
x10i will work with rogers but you only get edge aka 2g.
I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up to attention yet, but is it possible for the i337 to work on AWS band?
The reason I'm asking this is because I've found services through kijiji to modify the i337m (Canadian version) to work with WIND and MOBILICITY.
mod edit: advertising paid services is not allowed
I highly doubt those people will tell you exactly how to mod it and I don't have a S4 yet but maybe it's the same method use to mod the gnote 2.
I'm really hoping someone could try it out and see what happens, maybe even with a tutorial if it's successful.
I have seen this ad as well. I have galaxy s4 from Bell (SGH i337m). I have tried the Note 2 method but that does not work on it. There must be a new trick which someone has figured out but they are using it commercially.
the only carrier that has both aws and regular 2600mhz lte is rogers (at least in canada) and they are rebranding it to lte max
http://www.mobilemag.com/2013/05/02/rogers-launches-lte-max/
and yes, the gs4 does switch between 1700-2100 and 2600 bands and its the only phone to do it

Bell and Rogers will both carry the i337m model so I guess it won't make a difference either way if the phone is unlocked.
But what do you mean it can switch between 1700-2100? I didn't think aws is a original supported banned for the i337.
Originally they are able to switch between LTE Aws 1700/2100 and 2600 but the HSPA 1700/2100 is disabled in software of SGH i337 and 337m. We are talking about Kijiji ads where people are able to sim unlock and enable Hspa 1700/2100 on these phones.

1700 and 2100mhz are the regular LTE bands, maximum theoretical speeds of 75 and 100mb/s respectively. 2600mhz is AWS, aka Rogers' LTE Max which has 150mb/s. As of now, the only carrier in Canada to have AWS is Rogers and in the US, T-Mobile seems to have it and verizon are planning for it sometime this year, AT&T seem to have it too but at 2300mhz, i'm not sure why tho. The GS4 can switch between AWS and LTE, which also mean that it will be doing that when the 700mhz spectrum war will be over. And the 700mhz war is probbaly the most important technological advance for the mobile industry as that frequency can go through very thick walls other material that greatly diminishes current LTE bands.
MY I337 does not work on T-Mobile 3G/4G only get EDGE.
Has there been any way to enable aws bands like on the note 2

That's because AT&T's S4 doesn't support those other bands. It has been reported that T-mobiles S4 does plus it also works on AT&T's network (LTE included).

im pretty sure it does, it would be less expensive for samsung to disable the AWS bands by software then to create a new motherboard with other hardware that doesnt support it. I'm ready to bid 100$ that it has the hardware for it, just not active
Just to clarify some of the incorrect info / misunderstandings here:
The S3 and Note 2 (ATT / Rogers / Bell / TELUS variants) had a Qualcomm tweak that enabled AWS HSPA so that the hardware would work on T-Mobile / WIND / Mobilicity.
The question is if a similar tweak will work on the I337/M (ATT / Rogers / Bell / TELUS variants). I am curious because when I travel to the US, I use T-Mobile.
From what I read, out of the box, the T-Mobile variant of the S4 will work on all the carriers, but the ATT variant will not (like the S3 / Note 2 before it, a tweak is required).

ive come to realize with the s4 that att and perhaps other us carriers are plain simple assholes. Sure, you might have a 2 year contract when us canadiens have 3 years contracts, but at least we have unlocked bootloaders, we can use hotspotting without carriers shutting us down, we dont have throttling and we have the 50gb dropbox offer regardless if our carrier has its own cloud storage.

Our rates are cheaper now anyways. Our $65-$85 plans in Canada are $120 in the US. But back on topic...
Is our bootloader I337M for sure unlocked? Are you sure?

100%, there are many many people in the forum that have the canadian variant and are running a custom recovery. I would do it, but i wont touch any rooting or recovery until an OTA come and fixes the lag issues
Sorry guys but I do not exactly understand if the S4 can work on Wind Mobile or not?
I have a Nexus 4 which I want to sell (tired of terrible battery life with an average camera) and I want to buy the Rogers S4. If I were to unlock the S4 can it run on Wind Mobile 3G?
Thanks in advance.
Hey guys a friend of mine wants to buy an S4 from Greece. Will it work properly in Canada with their carriers?
Thanks in advance!
yes, it will work in canada as the base GSM frequecies are the same. the issue is with UMTS frequencies.
If it is international octa version LTE will not work.
If itis an LTE it may not work depending on frequency and what carrier he plans to use.
He wants to use it with rogers.... you know if it will work?
Rogers informed us that they use 850,1900 for 3G HSPA LTE etc...and recently they 2600 MHZ for LTE.
I've been struggling with this issue, and google has brought me here..
I purchased a factory i9505 off ebay, doing my research regarding Canadian LTE compatibility, etc. However I did not delve deep enough in the small print. After not being able to connect onto my Bell LTE, but everything else seemingly working fine, I did some deeper digging, and found that there are specific bands on LTE that are supported/unsupported!!
Apparently the Bell runs their LTE on bands 4 and 17, while the i9505 only talks on bands 1, 5, 3, 7, 8 and 20.... who knew! lol
But now I come here, and I saw this post:
dj_aj said:
...The GT-i9505 is the international S4 that uses the qualcomm quadcore cpu which is marketed in the USA as i377 (at&t) and i377m (bell/rogers/telus) in Canada. These 2 variants don't support AWS bands out of the box, but users have shown a way to enable that on these phones.
There is also another variant of the i9505 marketed as SGH-M919 for T-Mobile in USA and SGH-M919V for Wind/Videotron in Canada. These support AWS bands out of the box and work perfectly well on all North American providers such as At&t, Rogers, Bell, Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile, etc.
Hope this helps your dilemma!

So my question is... is there some anyone on this board who might be able to show me how I could somehow make my i9505 work with Bell LTE?
I am moderately tech saavy, and would be alright with rooting the phone with some help.
Or maybe this isn't possible?!?!
Thanks again

Actually upon reading more carefully, I really don't think it's an AWS problem, it's a Band 4 problem.... I don't think that's the same issue, but please correct me if I'm wrong!!
Thanks, though! :good:

I think you're right. The little bit of research I've done it sounds like the i9505 doesn't support lte in north America. I think your stuck with with 3g. Or you could see if you could trade it for a G version

uhhhh, I wouldn't say that... I do believe that the i9505 will talk LTE with Rogers/Fido... just not Bell.
This is why I'm asking if I could somehow 'hack' my i9505 to talk LTE Band 4 which will get me on Bell's LTE network.
Anyone?
I have a Galaxy S4 (i337m) that i enabled AWS on. I used it in Chile on the WOM network without any problems. However, when I got back to Canada, I swapped in my Mobilicity chip and found it couldn't get a signal. Searching for networks did nothing as I cannot connect to CAN Rogers INC and a "Unregistered SIM" message appears. To the best of my knowledge, both WOM Chile and Mobilicity operate on the AWS frequencies. Is there an extra step required or anything I can do get it running on Mobilicity? Any help would be appreciated. :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:

Yes, the SIM works fine on my S2 and G4 no problem. I know they're (Rogers) moving customers to their Chatr network, though I'm not sure if they will still be using AWS. Maybe that has something to do with it. The phone is originally from Rogers.
Rogers has never used aws and I doubt they will in the future.
