Problem w gmail pop.."messages cannot be downloaded

Guys,
"messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again."
That is the error.
This is something that just started happening. I have been using pocket Outlook on this phone to download my Gmail email for some time through GPRS and Wifi with no problems. Now this error starts up.
The thing is that I still get the messages. The messages come through in pocket outlook but this error still comes up. Weird and annoying.
So I CAN download the mail but it looks like the phone thinks I can't. If anyone can help me get rid of this error I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
I'm getting this error as well. When I first got it, I just deleted my gmail account out of Pocket Outlook and then just added a new account and it would work fine for a while. Then, after a few days, I would get this same error again.
I would still be able to receive email but I am unable to send. My emails sit in the Outbox and will not send. Then during the next send/receive, it will redownload all of my emails and still not send any mail and this message will again pop up.
I flashed my ROM with the official T Mobile ROM and this occured again. I just flashed with Molski's ROM last night, now this **** is happening again. I have googled, I have searched this forum...nothing!!
Anybody know what the hell is going on?
bump...
c'mon...I know somebody's gotta know this one...

First off thank you for the prompt reply. I tried that website but everytime I time I try and have it send me a password reset email it doesn't pop up in my gmail. Also even more confusing is that it won't let me set up a new account. It keeps saying server error..
Any ideas? The fact that I can't get past this one screen is REALLY frustrating lol
I had a heck of a time setting up my wifes. Just kept trying and it finally went through.
Thanks all I got it working. It was my old motoblur account. For some reason I couldn't use it, and I couldn't set up a new account under the same email account either. They also wouldn't send the email to reset the password either..
So I just created a new account with a new email and it synced just fine

Can't OTA Update because of Motoblur...

I keep getting this error message when i hit system updates in the about phone section.
"com.android.settings.deviceinfo.CheckUpdate is not available without a social networking account. To create a new account, click "Setup" button"
If I try to load social networking from the applications list, it says i have to setup a social networking account also. But when I go to accounts, it wont let me delete the facebook account (says error) and there is no 'social networking' account in add accounts. This is a really strange error, I'm thinking maybe due to downloading the regular facebook app. I deleted it and still am getting the same error. Not sure if accidently deleted the social networking app but its still listed under the manage applications section.
Anyone have any ideas on this one?
I am having this same problem. When I go into "About Phone" and check for updates, I get a popup message on the screen instantly that says:
com.android.settings.deviceinfo.CheckUpdate is not available without a social networking account. To create a new account, click "Setup" button"
There is a button labeled "setup" and a button labeled "Cancel". When I hit "Setup", nothing happens.
If I go into Accounts on the phone, it shows two sections:
MOTOBLUR Accounts
Other Accounts
MOTOBLUR accounts has nothing under its header, and Other Accounts has my GMail account. When I hit "Add Account", there isn't an option to setup a MotoBlur account, or add my existing MotoBlur account to the phone. Instead it gives me the option of adding MySpace, Facebook, LastFM, Twitter, Email, Corportate Sync, Picasa, Photobucket, LinkedIN, or Yahoo Mail to my MotoBlur Account.
I figured I'd try adding one of those to my MotoBlur account in hopes that it would realize that it lost my MotoBlur account and let me add my MotoBlur account back in. Sadly, this was note the case. I chose Picasa, put in my name and password and got the following error:
"There was an error creating your account. Please try again.
There was an error creating your account. Please try again."
(Yes, it said it twice)
I tried the same thing with Twitter, and again I got the same error message box (and again it said the error twice).
For some background on my setup... I am rooted and have unlocked the boot loader. I also used Titantium to Freeze everything in the "Comprehensive List" on this website:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972459
I did unfreeze everything I had frozen on the phone, rebooted it, and I get the exact same results...
Accounts lists a header for MOTOBLUR Accounts and Other Accounts, but has nothing under MotoBlur.
When I try to do updates and it says that I need a social networking account and I click "Setup", nothing happens.
When I launch the Social Networking App, it says that I need an account, and my options are "setup" and cancel. When I hit "Setup" 3 in 4 times the app just closes on the spot, 1 in 4 times the phone rebooted just after the app closed itself.
So can anyone shed some light onto this? It seems obvious to me that the problem is that my phone "lost" its MotoBlur account. Is there a way to set one up again without wiping the phone?
DK
I have previously borked Motoblur by freezing something I shouldn't have, and thawing didn't help matters. I'm guessing you'll be doing a wipe and clean install in your near future.
This may not be relevant since I'm running the 2.3.4 build, but I have an app called Social Networking in my app drawer. When I click on it I can add a MotoBlur type account for a variety of social networks. I don't remember if this was there in the stock build. I think I remember a social widget of some sort though. Maybe you could add that to a screen, and it would provide the actual mechanisms for adding the social networking account.
Im getting this too in my rooted atrix, the unrotted i have us fine.
Sent from my MB860
Rooted versus non-rooted shouldn't matter. I was rooted on 4.1.26 and did the OTA to 4.1.57, re-rooted and did OTA to 4.1.83.
There must be a way to have the MotoBlur setup to come up again without wiping the whole phone. There doesn't seem to be an icon for it, but there must be something I can run through a terminal window or over ADB that will re-launch the MotoBlur setup.
DK
I put up a post on the Moto Forums, and a Moto Employee said that there is no way to re-run the MotoBlur account setup.
The thing is... I'm nearly positive that there is a way. I'd find it very hard to believe that the application to setup your MotoBlur account when you turn on the phone for the first time is programmed such that it removes itself after its done. That would mean that its still on the phone somewhere. Right?
I'm hardly an Anroid pro, but I am most definately not a typical end user either. Any advice to point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Since I don't "need" OTA updates until GB is out (unless CM7 or anything good custom ROM beats Moto), I have plenty of time to look around the phone for a solution to this.
DK
if you wipe your phone you will get this option back to add a motoblur account again
there is a 'setup' app in the app drawer for those who want to setup blur later.
If you are on bell search flawless bell update I have a howto.
If you're on att you're going to need to find a stock system.img to push onto your phone.

[Q] Stock email app doesn't work since KitKat upgrade

Ever since the KitKat upgrade, my stock email fails, with the message box: "Unfortunately, email has stopped", and an option to report it. I had read that there are some difficulties with exchange servers, so I deleted my exchange account, but the email program still fails in the same way. Thanks for any advice that you can give me.
EDIT: I fixed this by a full reset of the tablet. I think that the security features of exchange email got in the way and I just needed to start from scratch.

Force Google Email app to work for Exchange?

Right now I'm using the stock Samsung Email program for my work Exchange. However, I'd ideally like to look at the Google Email program because I think the notification from that will work better with my Android Wear watch.
I know when I first got my phone I could use either one but that was back on 4.4.2 (I think). Since upgrading to 4.4.4 I can't get the Google Email program to work. Play store won't let me download it saying that it's not compatible with my phone. I was able to find a apk and side loaded it, but when trying to set it up to connect to my Exchange server, it flashing for a very brief second saying it's trying, then gives me an error saying it can't connect.
I'm quite positive I have all the setting right as they are the same settings I use with the Samsung program. I'm guessing there is something going on that's blocking the Google Email app from running.
I'm running a stock ROM, but am rooted.
Any ideas?
I'm not rooted, but have that working. Mostly.
I had to sideload 2 apks:
1. com.google.android.gm.exchange-6.5-1533254-500065-minAPI14.apk
2. EmailGoogle.apk
I'm reading these names out of my phone's Download directory - not sure where the links came from anymore - probably apkmirror or similar. The first one I listed is a different version of the Exchange service than came on the phone, and 2nd is a different version of the GMail app than we were getting.
Once those were loaded I could set up both my Gmail account and my work/exchange account to work from the same Gmail interface.
I get an ongoing Authentication Error status message. Exchange still works, but the message is an annoyance I have learned to ignore.
Good luck.
