Android SoftKeyboard detached from the bottom screen - Java for Android App Development

My App has a particular behavior . I'm working with a webview. I have root access. Sometimes I use "GMD Hide Bar" App to hidden navigation bar. When I go on a web page that contains a textbox, like google, and I click inside the textbox, the Android keyboard appears detached from the bottom of the screen. There is a trasparent gap from the screen to the keyboard.
Do you have any suggestions?

Strange.
Send the developer an email. He might know what to do or he can figure out what he has to do to change it.

This is a simple browser that use a webview and I am a developer...

This is not exactly what you want, but close. Open the keyboard, then press search + s (i.e. hold the magnifying glass and press s). In settings, applications, shortcuts, you can define many more, or change this one.
Thanks for the reply. But yep I found the shortcut option but not exactly what I wanted. I figured most sliders opens text messaging automatically so I figured there should be a way on the androids....anyone have any idea ?

[Q] Gesture Trace on ICS?

In zips creamed glacier rom (all versions)
when you go to the settings option for the messaging app
there is an option to show gesture trace then the sensitivity right under it
so i enable it and go back to messaging and it shows a yellow line when you swipe your finger where the messages appear.
does anyone know how we can set certain gestures do have certain functions?
or what the heck its used for
i know some devices and tabs have gestures but thats on apps and the home screen where you make a circle and it takes you to music app or something
but this is only in the messaging app.
any info would help
guess no one knows then?
ffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
me too
I have a similar problem after flashing my ATT Captivate to Serenddipity 7. When I use the text messaging app a yellow line appears wherever I slide my finger. It goes away after a few seconds. Is it related to the Swype keyboard settings?
edit: found it, messaging app has setting for gesture trace....uncheck this. Problem goes away.

its not a PRoblem for me i just want to know what it is used for.
im thinking maybe you can circle an object then while keeping your finger down on the screen draw a letting representing what you want to do with the circled object or word.
but that doesnt work i don't know how to set it up.
its unchecked by default. i checked the box to get the feature but i dont know how to use it.
my question was what is it used for

Hope this helps... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28306765&postcount=53021
As I explained in that thread to another user, the gestures are used to call upon premade message templates. You can set up those in the same Message app settings.
I searched and your thread came up and it seems you didn't found an answer either.

[Q] holding home button

I looked around but didn't find anything, although that doesn't mean anything.
My question is that when holding the home button, you get a whole semi circle, but just giogke now or whatever that silly thing is. Is there a way of adding programs or shortcuts to this popup. I have zero use for the Google thing so seems a shame if I am unable to add more useful items to this semi circle. Could prove pretty useful.

I haven't seen anywhere you can add to that or change it. I love the google now thing, just to be able to tell it to wake me up in an hour if nothing else:laugh:
Try this app if you haven't already though, it will let you launch an app just by sliding in from the side of the screen, or bottom, or whereever you want.

Instead of launching Google Now you could get get an app launch list using 'Launch Now', which replaces default behavior. Just serach for it in PlayStore, as I may not insert links (10 posts rule)....
There's a way for people who want to hook into the swipe up action that may not be documented. Apps like "Sudo Quicklaunch" make the system switch the icon to a generic search icon and show you the standard action completion pop-up. (One can see this in the app's promotional video.) I haven't personally tested that app, but I have seen the swipe up reassignment behavior with "Secure Settings." The Secure Settings app actually changes the icon displayed by the swipe up menu, when you tell it to "Always" use that app, and Google Search does the same thing. Coincidentally, the same reassignment behavior appears to be possible with the shop icon in the stock launcher. (I saw it for myself in the days of Honeycomb with the transition from the original Honeycomb Market app to the new, unified Market app, because both were installed, it asked me to choose when I tapped shop.)

[Q] Move Cursor in Browser or Text Window?

Ok, this is going to probably sound really dumb, but it's driving me nuts.
I've used Android for a few years now, and I've never sorted out if there's a way to scroll left and right in a text area.
No matter what keyboard I've used, I just end up deleting the whole dang thing, and typing from scratch, if it's text in a small window.
For example, if I typed a long url, and I realized after hitting enter that I must have made a typo. I'd like to go left to right in that bar and look for it easily.
I guess this has plagued me on every Apple and Android device I've owned. On RIM it was easy enough, and on older Symbian it was fine.
What the heck am I missing here?
Thanks!
Tap anywhere on the entered text - wait - there will be a blue arrow cursor below the text. Drag it whenever you want to start typing from.

Nifty. That works in the URL bar, but what about other input areas?
I can't seem to make that work in say the google search input window.

Ah, it's a Firefox issue then. I tried chrome and it works in that (though I never really use chrome).
Ok thanks.
I was hoping there would be a convenient left and right key option on the keyboard itself, so that it wouldn't matter what app I'm using, but I guess it's tied to the app itself. That kind of stinks. It's rather awkward in design.
Do you know of an alternative keyboard that supports that type of functionality? I like the "Swpe-like" setup in the stock keyboard, but I'd much rather have an easier correction method built in.
You can enable the function to move the cursor using the volume rocker. It's in Settings - Language and Input - and that option will be down below the input methods
I miss the big keyboard with arrows from HTC Flyer though - it's pretty awesome to use in portrait mode, though not as useful in landscape since it takes much more space than N7's does
And no, I don't know about other keyboard since I don't use them, I prefer stock

Emoticons on gesture typing??

Recently my phone started throwing out emoticons when I swipe type with the google keyboard. For example, when I type "right", it types a right arrow. Wtf? Is there a way I can disable this?
Thanks

Answer here appears to work: go into system settings->language and input->google keyboard settings gear->text correction->add-on dictionaries->install emoji for english, then delete it.
I think this may have taken away my ability to actually make emoji on purpose though.
