Recently my phone started throwing out emoticons when I swipe type with the google keyboard. For example, when I type "right", it types a right arrow. Wtf? Is there a way I can disable this?
Thanks

Answer here appears to work: go into system settings->language and input->google keyboard settings gear->text correction->add-on dictionaries->install emoji for english, then delete it.
I think this may have taken away my ability to actually make emoji on purpose though.

(Would have posted in vanilla's thread, but I don't have permission to do so)
I have played with two CM7 ROMs.. the one that's been floating around for a while, and now vanillaLVL's.
In both, you can see the on-screen keyboard just below the list of suggested words.
To recreate
- Open Messaging and create a new SMS message
- Tap in the message box
- You'll see the OSK just below the suggestions. More precisely, you can see the bottom row of buttons.. like the ?123 and the Tab arrow
This isn't a big deal, just a little annoying. Is there a fix out there for this?
YES! Exactly! Somebody help with this problem. Personally, I'm annoyed when the keyboard comes out from the bottom of the screen.
Sorry for my english.

I have installed Swiftkey Flow and that bug isn-t there anymore, however, the problem now is that, whenever i want to use the physical keyboard, Swiftkey also appears taking more than half of the screen size :\
Would like to know if there-s a fix for this so Android keyboard doesn't appear when in portrait mode.
Ok, this is going to probably sound really dumb, but it's driving me nuts.
I've used Android for a few years now, and I've never sorted out if there's a way to scroll left and right in a text area.
No matter what keyboard I've used, I just end up deleting the whole dang thing, and typing from scratch, if it's text in a small window.
For example, if I typed a long url, and I realized after hitting enter that I must have made a typo. I'd like to go left to right in that bar and look for it easily.
I guess this has plagued me on every Apple and Android device I've owned. On RIM it was easy enough, and on older Symbian it was fine.
What the heck am I missing here?
Thanks!
Tap anywhere on the entered text - wait - there will be a blue arrow cursor below the text. Drag it whenever you want to start typing from.

Nifty. That works in the URL bar, but what about other input areas?
I can't seem to make that work in say the google search input window.

Ah, it's a Firefox issue then. I tried chrome and it works in that (though I never really use chrome).
Ok thanks.
I was hoping there would be a convenient left and right key option on the keyboard itself, so that it wouldn't matter what app I'm using, but I guess it's tied to the app itself. That kind of stinks. It's rather awkward in design.
Do you know of an alternative keyboard that supports that type of functionality? I like the "Swpe-like" setup in the stock keyboard, but I'd much rather have an easier correction method built in.
You can enable the function to move the cursor using the volume rocker. It's in Settings - Language and Input - and that option will be down below the input methods
I miss the big keyboard with arrows from HTC Flyer though - it's pretty awesome to use in portrait mode, though not as useful in landscape since it takes much more space than N7's does
And no, I don't know about other keyboard since I don't use them, I prefer stock

So Im having issues with my Google Now it seams. I have Marshmallow 6.0.1 rooted with Xposed. I recently switched from an iphone and to open apps on iphone i would swipe down then just start typing the app name and it would popup. Im trying to do this with Google Now Search except it seems to be too picky. For example if i want to open my messager app i type in mess and no apps come up. But if i type Mess the messenger app comes up. Does anyone else have this issue? Also is there a way to make it focus on the search bar when i swipe down or i swipe over to the cards?

Maybe its because im rooted or something. But second question. To start typing in the Google search bar on home screen you have to click on it then a keyboard comes up. Is there a way to just swipe down on screen to bring up keyboard and focus on search bar?

Don't think so but I'm rooted have you tried now on tap activate by holding down the home button
So I'm using the google keyboard. I'm not sure what happened when, but at some point something changed and now when I'm typing I get two word suggestions for misspellings: 1) as a popup and 2) as a horizontal list of words above the top row of the keyboard.
I hate the popup. Not only are the word suggestions pretty much always wrong (whereas the horizontal list of words are correct), but it's extremely obtrusive.
That said, I can't figure out how to turn the popup suggestions off without also turning off the horizontal list of suggestions. It seems that is both or none.
Is it? Can I turn off just the pop-up and keep the horizontal list of word suggestions?
Thanks for the help!

Why don't you want to use another keyboard? With SwiftKey or Gboard you don't have to physically switch languages. It happens automatically. Seeing the as your keyboard says Portuguese I think you would benefit from one of those options. Just FYI. ?
To answer your question, the space is there to prevent accidental swipes so I'm not sure that you can actually remove it with gesture navigation.
Having the same issue here. The space is anoying me. Anyone know how to take it off? (Gboard here)

In navigation bar options turn off show button to hide keyboard but I recommend keeping it on as you can accidentally type while trying to exit the keyboard
