Why don't you want to use another keyboard? With SwiftKey or Gboard you don't have to physically switch languages. It happens automatically. Seeing the as your keyboard says Portuguese I think you would benefit from one of those options. Just FYI. ?
To answer your question, the space is there to prevent accidental swipes so I'm not sure that you can actually remove it with gesture navigation.

Having the same issue here. The space is anoying me. Anyone know how to take it off? (Gboard here)

In navigation bar options turn off show button to hide keyboard but I recommend keeping it on as you can accidentally type while trying to exit the keyboard

Keyboard in the way!?

You can always bring it up by pressing the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen. How can you remove it though ?
All Apps handle the keyboard differently. Only a very few let you press the keyboard button again to remove it. Some let you scroll the App underneath. Some don't let you do anything.
A good example is Windows Explorer. Have a play and see what I mean.
Am I missing something, is there a solution ?
hey hesian, sorry but i dont have a solution but am in agreement with you on this. my example is while using opera the keboard icon remains and blocks out the "tabs" icon when in portrait. hope someone may know this one.
my phone is HD2 with lynx-ex 1.4.1 rom.
thanks
Can't believe nobody else has an issue with the keyboard ???

How could I disable hardware keyboard while it's open and use software keyboard?

I know some of you might think this is a stupid question. I would like to use any on screen keyboard while the hardware keyboard is open and disable hw kb until I want to use it. Let me see if I can explain this to you why.
I am starting to like typing in landscape mode with on screen keyboard. I am getting pretty good at it and definitely think my speed is faster that way than a hardware keyboard. Have any of you tried typing in landscape for any extended length of time? I don't know about you but my fingers really start cramping and hurting because I have to hold the phone with the rest of my hands and fingers while typing with my thumbs. When the hw kb is open, this could give me more area to hold the phone a little more comfortably while using a fast software keyboard. My thumbs wouldn't be at funky downward angles to hit the keys, they would be extended straighter and upwards and might be less prone to getting crampt up and carpel tunnel.
Am I crazy to think this might be useful? Has anyone heard of it being done or an app or hack that could achieve what I'm trying to do?
I do understand where you are coming from, having big hands and fingers can suck sometimes, but I don't think its possible. I've tried to see if I could pull up the virtual landscape keyboard with the hw one open but no luck.

Why'd you get the Shift and not the Evo if you would prefer an on-screen keyboard?

I'm not complaining or whining, I'm just asking for help with something that I might like to do.
to answer your question, yes, it is possible.
i just tested this on skyfire, ebuddy, and gmail. if you simply leave the keyboard in, aka don't slide the screen, and rotate the device, the screen will turn and whatever app you are using will also turn (if it supports it). then just click in the text box you want to type in again, and the onscreen keyboard will come up. I'm using better keyboard atm, so didn't test it with the HTC or any others. but i'm fairly positive that if it works with that one, it'll throw up whichever keyboard you are currently using in the same situation.

I think you missed what he was trying to say. he was asking if it's possible to use the on-screen keyboard with the physical keyboard open.
OP, here's an android tip (it works with any android phone): if you hold down the menu button with your cursor in a text field, it forces the on-screen keyboard to come up. You could try selecting a text field, then holding down the menu button.

I know about what you are explaining, that's normal usage. What I'm interested in is using the open physical keyboard as additional area to hold the phone with while in landscape and using the on screen keyboard. I'm thinking there needs to be something to trick the phone into thinking the keyboard drawer is closed when it's actually open.
It seems, as usual, that I am coming up with lame brain ideas and haven't a clue as how to making them happen. I emailed one keyboard dev a few days ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I guess I could shoot out emails to all the devs of the keyboards I have bought and see if I get a response.

I just tried that with the drawer open and it is not working. I tried switching to the stock keyboard too and still nothing. Thanks for the suggestion.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 1-year warranty on manufacturing defects, regardless of insurance standing or the 30-day return policy? Certainly sounds like a manufacturing defect to me, unless it's broken from misuse
this isnt the place for talking about warantee issues. start a different thread. this is about answering the question in this thread.
have you tried any other keyboards from the market or like the swype beta or anything? idk if it would make a difference. i doubt you can disable it while its open. if you want to use the soft keyboard close the phone? Its probably best practice to keep the phone closed when you arent using the hardware keyboard anyways?

and I was pointing out a potential fix for someone with an issue in this thread, try to keep up.
Looks like smart keyboard pro has that feature. Its buried in the advanced menu.
Yes sir it is I just downloaded the trial to give it a shot one thing I notice is when you open the keyboard on the home screen they keyboard pops up over all your icons I'm gonna play with the settings somemore and see what I can do about it
*EDIT* if you are on a text box and hit home the keyboard don't open over home screen but if you just open the phone to put it into landscape on the homescreen they beyboard will pop up just hit the search button then back and you have your whole home screen

[Q] N7 + DISABLE Physical Keyboard

Every time I connect a physical keyboard HID device (Either a bluetooth keyboard or a bluetooth barcode scanner), Android toggles the physical input toggle to _ON_ ! It's infuriating, because this blocks the soft keyboard from showing, and I need both! I know if I write an app for the application I have in mind, I can just toggle the soft keyboard ON - that's easy enough, but no dice for web apps... which are better in many ways for me.
What should I do? Where do I start? Custom build? Custom kernel? Anyone have a recommendation?
Bleh I have an album of screenshots but it won't let me post them.
It's on imgur.com / a / Y20GH
... just a helpful guess
I don't have a physical keyboard to try this out with but I think the Keyboard Manager app might let you do this?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...rTGFicy5hbmRyb2lkLnV0aWxpdHkua21MYXVuY2hlciJd
I suspect there is also a way Tasker can control it.
not really a solution for me...

Tasker can toggle the soft keyboard ON, but this doesn't really solve my issue... looking to keep that hardware keyboard disabled... is there a script that could do it via tasker somehow?

Multi Window

I can't seem to be able to use the keyboard to type in the top app when I use multi-window. Pressing any key reverts me to the app on the bottom half of the screen. I'm using Swiftkey btw. Anyone know fixes? Thanks in advance.

I believe when you are using Stock Keyboard, you can detach it and move around when in Multiwindow mode. But i don't know about SwiftKey, play around in it's settings and see...

Wow bro i was exactly in this moment post this issue.
I have the problem to i cant type in the upper app whatever the app is, i also use siwftkey. Have you find any solution? this happened to me after upgrading to kitkat sm-n900.
I tried undocking swiftkey and it worked, but it can be the complete solution. There are some pics of different apps , another issue is that when i want to edit the multiwindow apps the option to go play store is not available.
I donĀ“t know were to look, if any of you know something please share
Thanks
Nope, sorry man. Currently i'm just sticking to swapping the top screen with the bottom whenever I need to type. Tedious though
I have this issue too. I noticed that the stock keyboard doesn't have this problem.
As a temporary solution I used tasker with the note buddy plugin to automatically switch the SwiftKey keyboard to stock.
I know it's just not the best solution since you always have to pull out the s pen, but it's something.
For those who don't have tasker, there's the SpenBoardswitcher.

Has there been and solutions or updates to this? Driving me nuts. I noticed that after I updated my note 3 to 4.4.2 on att this issue presented itself
Swiftkey doesn't support Multiwindow. It has never officially done so.
Ugh. Quite frustrating but it is what it is. Thanks for the response.

Remove Keyboard Notification When Keyboard Is Used?

I have a A2017U on B27 Stock that's unlocked, rooted, and with Xposed.
I use three Google keyboards: English, Japanese, and Korean. Whenever the keyboard opens, I'll have a notification that allows switching between the three. It's irrelevant since each of the keyboards has a button to switch between them anyways. Has anyone found a way to remove it?
I've read that deleting all keyboards except one fixes this, which is obviously not a solution. I've also read that this is a notification built into the Android ROM, but there are individual phone model specific fixes for it. If anyone has found an Axon 7 solution please let me know.
Also, anyone know how to remove this globe button from the keyboard? It switches between my three keyboards, but it's redundant since long pressing the Space bar key does the same action. I often press it accidentally when trying to type a comma or a space.
Hey I was able to achieve this was by manually deleting the stock keyboard with a file explorer except the google one; aka only leaving ONE keyboard. I don't think you can do that without deleting all other keyboards. As you can see from the screenshot, I don't have any keyboard notifications.
You could try http://repo.xposed.info/module/biz.underpants_gnomes.android.xposed.mods.hidexposedime and see if it works. About the globe, I have no idea.
Get Swift keyboard, it has language packs download.

Yeah I mentioned in my post I found that info, and it's not a solution when you need to type in three different languages.

Thank you!!! Worked like a charm! Also read on its Xposed page description that Cyanogenmod can do this natively without an app/module. Good to know once we get an official CM ROM.
No need for xposed.
It's a notification to ask you to choose a keyboard. Click the notification, click choose keyboards at the bottom, disable keyboards you are not using. Done.

Again for the second time, if you'd read the OP this is not a solution for anyone who types in multiple languages. Thankfully member awsomjgp provided an Xposed module solution that fits the original requirements.
